A/N – Just me expressing my trauma for what has become of Moon and the others in Chapter 3, because even though we no longer follow Moon's POV, Moon's Point of View still lives on in her own experiences which she can't escape just because her book is over.
Moon fought desperately as the silk wound its way around her invisible body. She spouted fire from her mouth, but it was hopeless, the HiveWings had her.
She saw a HiveWing step toward her, a terrifyingly sharp stinger sliding from her wrists. Moon had a terrifying vision of it penetrating her throat, and terror rose in her like she couldn't imagine. Her reflexes tried to pull her away, but she could do nothing.
And then it happened, right in the fleshy soft part of her throat where she was most sensitive. Her breath caught; her throat contracted violently with pain; fire coursed through her body; a scream tried to erupt from her mouth, her body tried to writhe away, but it couldn't, the poison was freezing her body on the spot before she had time to react. Pain that she couldn't believe was overflowing her body, consuming everything she could process, and she could do nothing to escape this prison that was now her body; an iron cast had been forged around her, and she couldn't wince, couldn't spasm even the slightest as fiery acid flowed through her every vein.
Moon felt horror like she had never felt before, horror at not what could happen in the future, but at what was happening to her right now. Even if she was visible, an outsider would look at her at see her go slack like she had simply been put into a relaxed trance, but inside, Moon was screaming, unable to escape the nightmare that was her own body.
Once Moon and the others had defeated Darkstalker, she had been able to hope that the worst that could potentially happen to her had already passed, it had not been in her mind to speculate that even in their moment of victory, such pain still awaited in her future. She had had visions of her and Qibli potentially having eggs together, and she knew laying them could be intense, but this that was happening to her now, she wasn't prepared for; maybe by agreeing to this quest she should have expected she was once again opening herself up to such perils, but she had never expected that it would happen like this.
Her body was a prison, claustrophobia like never before transcended any fears she had felt before, there was nowhere to turn, no way to turn, to flinch away from this acid that was burning every part of her insides.
When the pain finally began to fade, she was being carried away from the island, unaware of what had transpired between now and the point she had first got stung. She still couldn't move, but the initial pain was gone, the only memory an aching soreness inside that would soon fade too. Qibli, Tsunami, and Pineapple had been captured alongside her, and from the thoughts she could gather from them, they had all just been through similar experiences to her own as well. They too were recovering, and Moon knew that by the time this paralysis was over, the pain that they had felt in the beginning would be all but forgotten. But instead of feeling a sense of relief, Moon only felt a sense of foreboding; visions flooded her mind of things much worse, stingers far more painful, that were rising in their potential futures.
For Moon now knew how much pain a dragon could really go through, and how little there was a dragon could do to stop it.
And that was truly terrifying.
A/N – I have not yet finished Flames of Hope, so perhaps this is the worst of what will become of our favorite POV characters who we no longer follow. But my fear is that this is not over. I am so not going to be okay if that's the case :.(
