The thought had been beginning to cross his mind.
That this could be something.
Because she, this little helpless weepy girl, might be different.
In a way he had never before experienced.
This girl.
So different from Ann.
Ann never danced.
Ann never smiled.
Ann never laughed or made ridiculous . . .

You're kidding, are you serious? Oh my god.
That's . . . that's fucking brilliant.
. . . puns.
Ann never showed any real emotion at all when it didn't serve the purpose of their optics.
And that was fine. That was Ann.
She was loyal, she believed, was a complete convert.
Had helped him snare the friend.
She opened her leg for him, bore his children at will.
But there wasn't any real connection between the two of them.
From the moment he had taken her out of her cell and made her his wife, she had never complained, never blinked an eye, never shyed away from his touch or his appetites or his dedication to his life trajectory.
She even helped.
But she also never, well, showed any life outside of him.
Never showed any real hutspha, any real passion.
And, as silly as it sounded, he loved being in love, even fake love, he really did.
He loved the feeling of hopefulness, of fun, of light.
Of life.
It came along once in a blue moon, this kind of connection he had been feeling with Noa.
And so maybe, just maybe, this was something they could really be, this something they could really have, experience, share, enjoy.
Her.
Him.
Them.
Together.
Him as he was.
And this whole and wonderful woman.
Well, mostly whole.
So yeah, the thought, the sudden trusting, impulsive desire, had crossed his mind.
To give in, let go.
To surrender himself completely, just once, to another person.
This person.
This fascinating, suddenly-full-of-possibilities person.
The thought had crossed his mind.
Before she went and bit his dick off.
Yeah, so, yeah.
