„It's a beautiful night, isn't it?"
With a jolt Silver looked up from where he'd been reading a text on his phone. Shadow spammed him with texts the past ten minutes, feeling pretty restless with his self-announced-brother being gone out on a patrol with his dimensional counterpart.
Silver couldn't say he minded the others overprotectiveness, came it quite handy at times and it did save him many many times before.
He couldn't exactly blame the dark hedgehog for being such a mother hen, was the thought of him being out in the streets not actually a pleasant one, though the attacks barely happened at night, so it was quite uncanny the two psychics were needed.
And as such the smaller gray hedgehog spent most of the patrol, assurring Shadow that he was alright.
Letting his gaze drift about the nightsky, Silver gave his counterpart a warm smile, although the taller psychic was unable to see it due to keeping his gaze firmly at the sky, as if he was scared the dark blue colors would fade to red once he tore his eyes off for even a second.
A deep sigh followed just seconds after and a gloved hand reached out to the sky, the time traveller slowly closing it to a fist as if to trap the stars in his hand.
Silver pulled his prior dangling legs up to his chest, gazing past C!Silvers stretched out hand to admire the starry sky as well.
„The stars do shine very brightly tonight." He mused, holding his phone in a tight grip and deciding to ignore the constant buzzing of several texts being sent by a anxious Shadow.
When he received no reply, Silver looked beside him where his counterpart gazed at the sky with sparkling eyes, completely in awe.
„Say…" he began, fiddling with the fabric of his protection suit. „I thought you have a blue sky in your future too? Why are you still so in awe when visiting the past?"
Beside him someone shifted and Silver noticed the others hand sinking, to rest on his stomach instead.
„It does but…" A sigh followed. „You see…the past is still... It's…different, you know?" C!Silver tried to explain and failed miserably as Silver shook his head in misunderstanding, chuckling softly.
„Not really. That's why I was asking in the first place, silly." Came the amused reply with the smaller psychic scooting over to lie beside his counterpart, who only gave a hum in reply.
Deciding not to push the other further, Silver fixed his gaze on the sky as well, copying the others actions.
It was silent the next few minutes, the two boys not able to find a interesting topic to talk about. Not that any of them actually minded that. It felt nice lying on the roof of some building, eyes closed – or staring up ahead - while letting the cool breeze brush through their quills.
And every night, I lie awake…
Quietly humming his favorite song to himself, Silver put his arms behind his head, not noticing how the others gaze drifted towards him, the taller psychic eyeing his counterpart curiously.
And I find no conclusion,
Was he humming…some kind of song? It wasn't like he hadn't heard music before, had Amy introduced him to the rhythmic tones before and he was absolutely mesmerized by it. But he'd never heard this perticular song before.
And every night, it just stays the same,
„Hey, what are you humming?" whispered C!Silver, watching the smaller psychics ear flick at the question and two golden eyes opened to look at his counterpart in surprise.
„…A song?" Silver replied with a confused expression, wondering if the time traveller had ever listened to a song before. It wasn't very unlikely after all. „You know? The-"
„I know what a song is! But what's its name? It sounds so beautiful!" came the excited reply of a gray psychic, who's tail suddenly decided to have a will of its own and wagged uncontrollably.
Giving the other a small smile, Silvers surprised expression changed into one of utter delight, the small psychic finally able to introduce his friend to his all time favorite song!
„It's Dreams of an absolution!" he cried out, his own tail starting to wag a bit as well. Though his happy expression quickly fell as the others face turned sour. Did he say something wrong?
„What…what does absolution mean?" C!Silver asked, never have heard of that word before. „Is it something…good?"
Propping himself up into a sitting position, Silver bit his lip as he thought about it. „Well…absolution basically means to be freed from something… Like pain, agony or… any kind of bad things happening to you." He explained, deciding not to make his explaination too hard to understand.
C!Silver hummed, looking down at the ground as he thought of it. „Like…free from something like Iblis?" he whispered and Silver felt his heart grow heavy at those words. Nonetheless, he replied with a „Yeah, like that".
It was silent once again, the small hedgehog trying to find a way to cheer his other self up. The time traveller just stared down at his hands, mumbling the word „absolution" every so often before looking up when Silver raised his voice.
„Hey…you said your future is saved now. No Iblis is ever going to bother you again." He said, giving the other a warm smile even though he was aware, that the future could always get fucked up again in not a minutes time. But he was trying to be optimistic here.
„And hey, should you ever need help with saving the future – count me in!"
His frown slowly turning into a weak smile, C!Silver nodded as he reached out to wrap the smaller psychic into a hug.
„Are you sure Shadow's gonna allow you that?" he asked with a amused grin on his face, to which Silver could could shake his head.
„He doesn't need to know."
With that the small hedgehog wriggled himself out of the others grasp, activating his psychokinesis to gracefully fly up into the nightsky.
„Hey Silv, you coming or not?!" he yelled out to the other, quickly getting the reply in form of the taller psychic flying up to him, surrounded in a glowing cyan aura like his own.
„What's your plan now?" C!Silver asked curiously at the others sudden excitement.
Silver could only giggle at that question, giving the other a bright smile.
„How about a trip to the beach?!" The small psychic cried out, doing a flip in midair before speeding off just a second later.
„Catch me if ya can!" could be heard from farther away and C!Silver gave a cry of happiness as he dashed after his counterpart at the same speed, grinning widely at the kid before increasing his speed and flying past him.
Not wanting to let the other get away with this Silver sped up as well, reaching the other with a cry as he clung to him.
„Gotcha!" he cried at the surprised taller psychic who stared at his counterpart wide-eyed. It only made the kid smile wider than he had been before and with a laugh he carefully landed with both his feet steady in the sand.
There was rustling nearby but Silver didn't need to look up to find out who was standing beside him, staring at the nightly beauty of the beach.
The moonlight reflecting in the ever so gorgeous crystal clear water, being prettier than anything the two psychics had ever seen before.
Emerald Coast was clearly breathtaking and C!Silver wished they could stand here…forever. It felt like all his worries disappeared without a trace, with no burden on his shoulders and for once he felt completely at ease.
Similiar to his counterpart Silver just stood there, looking the ocean over with the brightest golden glowing eyes anyone had ever seen. In his own world he was never allowed to go out at night. No, his mother would murder him if he ever did that. But here, in this world, he was free to fly around at night and just enjoy life.
A gentle breeze brushed through their quills, making them even messier than they already had been before, but none of them cared at the moment. Life was too short to care about minimalistic things like this, C!Silver thought with a small smile.
It were moments like these that made both psychics realize how beautiful the world was and that they must protect it from evil…at all cost.
