Apology

It was only after he had escorted her back to her home, the pups already there and waiting for her, that he gave a single sharp spike of his aura. He ignored the Miko's concerned look and instead entered the home he had built for her and sat at the low table. His mood was sour and his thoughts a jumbled mess.

Yet on the outside he looked poised and stoic as normal.

Kagome could only arch a brow in his direction and focus her attention on her two pups. They crowded around her, their small faces looking up at her with worry and concern. Giving them a small smile she pulled them close and whispered soft words of comfort. She wondered if she should tell them the news yet?

The news still had her rolling, it was like a punch to the gut, it left her breathless and confused yet once the dust settled she would embrace it and begin preparing. Being the village miko she knew how hard a feudal pregnancy would be...yet the added fact that it was a hanyou one...she would have to rely on Sango and possibly Sesshomaru to help guide her.

Turning to glance at him she could only shiver as his molten gold eyes seemed to burn into her, her cheeks flushed as she recalled her breakdown in front of him. How embarrassing... She tore her gaze from him to the two children wrapped in her arms. "I'm fine...would you guys mind starting some tea?"

Both children glanced at each other, worried looks on their faces. They were young but not stupid they could feel the tension in the air between the two adults. It made the fur on Shippo's tail prickle, the surge of protectiveness making him stand a bit taller. Now that Inubaka was gone he was the alpha male and it was up to him to protect his mother and sister...

Leaving his mother alone with the half brother of the man who had hurt his mother so deeply...it made him uneasy. Yet at the look his sister was giving him he could only sigh through his nose. He knew she viewed Lord Sesshomaru as a father and as such she had on blinders when it came to him...so she would always be pre programed to see the good in him.

Rin could tell Shippo was on edge, his small body tense as his deep green eyes swirled with various thoughts and feelings. She didn't have to be a miko like her mother to sense his apprehension, nor the tension between her two parental figures. She knew that her mother most likely wanted to be able to talk with her lord without them around...

While she trusted her father figure to see him so upset and...feral it did spark a small flicker of fear in her. She was quick to extinguish it as she knew he would never hurt her or the rest of her small family. Even so it was shocking to see him so...emotional...upset. Whatever had transpired between the two adults at the hot springs after they had left had seemed to calm him down but gave way to a wave of tension between them.

Tension that needed to be dealt with...

"Come on Shippo, let's start the tea." Her voice was light and a small smile was on her lips as her brother gave a small huff but nodded his head. She had no doubt he was gunna grumble at her once they were alone.

Kagome could only sigh as the two left the room, her body sagging a bit as her smile dropped off her face. Turning to Sesshomaru she quickly lowered her gaze as she took a seat at the table to the right of him. Her body sagged as she finally sat down, the weight of everything once again closing in on her, it was crushing and suffocating.

Added in the fact that she could feel his gaze burning into her...it made her squirm in her seat. She couldn't believe she had broken down in front of him like that...she was supposed to always be strong and poised. Yet she had crumbled like a deck of cards in the wind...

Ducking her head she kept her gaze on the table as she tucked a piece of raven haired behind her ear. Her throat was dry as she clasped her hands in her lap, her hands twitching as they automatically moved to cup her stomach to cradle it.

"Ah, I'm sorry about earlier...it wasn't very becoming of me." Her voice was low and layered with shame.

The words that tumbled from the small miko's mouth had him hard pressed to not growl. How badly had his whelp of a half brother damaged this poor woman? For her to apologize for her emotions...it was entirely out of character for her. She was an emotional being, she had always been, and to see her once bright light so dimmed and for her to be so ashamed of her feelings...it made his hair bristle.

Feeling a small spike of a weak demonic aura he let out a light inaudible sigh through his nose as he stood, ignoring her startled look. Pausing he glanced down at her, her eyes flashing with worry and a smidge of fear. It stirred his beast and made him grit his jaw, he did not like seeing that fear in her eyes, let alone directed at him.

It was a stark contrast to how he used to be all those years ago. He used to revel in the look of fear in her eyes, the scent of it making him smirk...now it made his stomach lurch as the acidic scent of her fear teased his nose.

"You are a fool, Kagome. You have nothing to apologize for." With those words he turned on his heel and left the hut, his fingers twitching with the sudden want to reach out and pat her head, to offer her comfort. He shoved the feeling down and instead focused on locating the small flea demon in order to find the location of his master.
