Cravings

Were he a lesser demon he would have let his eyebrow twitch in annoyance as he sipped his tea at the low table. The miko sitting across from him was staring pensively into her cup of tea, as if accusing it of something, her knee bouncing in a rhythm that had been steady for the last five minutes.

Jaken and the pups were helping the old miko clear the snow from her roof and he had found himself enjoying his daily tea with the miko...at least until her knee started to bounce, knocking into the underside of the table in an annoyed rhythm. It was a habit that Rin had sadly picked up as well and it was one he wished they would both out grow, not that he was foolish enough to give voice to said wish.

"What ails you?" His voice was low, his gaze flickering to her eyes as she looked up at him in surprise at his sudden inquiry. Resisting the urge to snort at her confused look, he set his cup down, waiting for her to answer. The quicker she did the quicker he could fix it and the quicker she would stop her twitching.

He had learned many of the mikos tells in the past few months, and this was one of her more...annoying ones. She was prone to brooding when she was upset yet refused to voice it instead resigning to keep it to herself as to not bother those around her.

Kagome blinked, a light flush dusting her cheeks. "Uh, nothing." At his disbelieving look she could only duck her head and move a piece of her wayward raven locks behind her ear, she knew that he knew she was lying. Yet she really didn't want to bother him, he had already done so much for her and her pups...

"Miko, do not lie to me." His voice was even. Her eyes shot to meet his and she could only gulp as she shifted, her knee stopping its subconscious movement. He never asked for anything from her despite how much he had provided so mused it was only right that she at least be honest with him.

Hadn't he earned at least that much?

"I'm craving something..." Her voice was a low mumble yet she knew he heard it. She didn't know why she felt so self conscious, it was normal for pregnant women to have cravings, hell when Sango was pregnant there was a time she would only eat green tea mochi, much to the horror of Miroku's wallet.

Dipping his head for her to continue he could only watch as she shifted again, her fingers curling over the cup of tea before her. Said fingers began to twitch in nervousness. He let a small sigh slip from his nose, even now after all these months she was still so nervous about asking for anything.

Unless it was for the pups.

It was maddening.

Had he not proved that all she had to do was ask and he would provide? Did she doubt him? That thought made something snarl deep inside of him and he was hard pressed to not release it vocally.

"Tell me." It was a demand, not a request and she could only sigh as she glanced up to meet his gaze.

"Watermelon...I know it's out of season but damn if I don't want it." This was one of the drawbacks of living in the past, if she was in the future she would just have to go to the store and wa la! Alas this was the past, there was no local seven eleven on the corner. They were in the middle of a fairly mild winter but winter nonetheless. She would have to wait until late spring or early summer to give into her craving and it seemed to upset the growing child inside of her.

She knew right then and there that her child would be just as stubborn as her if not more so and it made her want to smile and groan at the same time.

Letting a small chuckle fall from his lips, so low she could not hear it, he took one last sip of his tea before standing. Ignoring her small squeak he glanced down at her as she gazed up at him in surprise. "I shall return soon, is there anything else you require?"

In his mind he was already planning out his route, he would be a few hours at most, he would have to call Jaken back to sit with the miko while he was gone. Maybe he would ask if his ward and the kit had any requests as well. It wasn't often that he went to the small islands to the south east of them.

"Cherries? Oh and maybe some bananas...if that's okay." Her voice was a timid squeak as she watched him remove his heavy armor yet kept his swords on his hips. Placing it on the nearby armor stand he rolled his shoulders feeling lighter. It wasn't heavy enough to make much of a difference but it would make some and he knew he had to move quickly and efficiently.

He had vowed that the miko and her pups would want for nothing and he had meant it.

"It shall be done." He spoke as if his voice was law and it only made her flush and her stomach flutter, she blamed it on the pup in there. "Jaken will join you shortly. I shall return." With that he was exiting the home and she could only groan into her hands as another craving suddenly hit her.
