Chivalrous
Chapter 6: Breakthrough

Author's Note: A quick heads up before we begin, my brother has asked that I stop using Jack and Lisa in this story, as they are his characters I've agreed to his request.

Disclaimer: I do not own Soul Eater or any of the characters involved except Lucas and Mira

Lucas and Mira awoke the next morning to find their house guests had disappeared. A note on the table was the only explanation they could find. While they had appreciated the kindness of the D.W.M.A Jack and Lisa couldn't stay for long, something was going on with their past and they needed to investigate.

Lucas looked at Mira as she finished reading the note.

"Well then, I suppose we'll need to find new Soul Resonance partners," She said.

"I don't think that'll be necessary," Lucas replied.

"What do you mean?

"Do you remember Professor Stein's other assignment? We're to find out a way to allow me to continue wielding you while I use my Ivonz style. Not to brag but, I think if we can manage that we'll be powerful enough on our own, not to mention that trying to get our wavelengths to align while doing this is going to be hard enough on its own, let alone trying to do it with other partners,"

"You're right about that… I guess we should try and figure out where to start?"

Lucas nodded as he got up from the table and made his way toward the door. Mira turned off the lights and gathered their things before following him out. An hour later they were in the trees near the school. Lucas and Mira were sitting back to back, Lucas closed his eyes.

"Are you ready?" He asked.

Mira nodded.

"Alright, starting in 3…2…1…" In a burst of adrenaline Lucas' skin took on the red hue of his Ivonz state and immediately Mira felt the difference. She put her hand on his and closed her eyes before focusing and turning into her weapon state, lodging blade first into the ground. Lucas picked her up and she immediately felt a burning sensation coming from her handle. She screamed in her mind but tried to find a way to match Lucas' wavelength. Imagining the two lines in her mind, his was a sporadic mess of jumps and drops while hers was a round set of waves that had occasional spikes where she felt the pain of Lucas' grasp intensify.

"Lucas I can't! Let go!" She shouted after a minute.

He complied and dropped her, she clattered to the ground and he growled to himself before releasing the state.

She reverted back to her normal form and looked to see slight burns on her wrists.

"You alright?" Lucas asked as he walked over.

She nodded, but he saw the burns. He quickly reached into his bag and pulled out a bottle of water and a rag. Dousing the cloth he set it on her wrists and the cooling sensation brought some relief.

"What are we going to do? Your wavelength in that state is too erratic, I can't match it like this," She explained.

"Maybe if I started at a smaller dose? Only let myself go a little bit?"

She shook her head, "I felt your wavelength when you fought Stein, and I heard what you told Jack and Lisa. Your wavelength is too erratic regardless of what amount you activate your state,"

Lucas sighed as he collapsed next to her. "What do we do now?" He asked.

"Well…" Mira frowned before her eyes widened, an idea occurred to her.

"Soul Resonance," She said.

"What?" Lucas looked up at her in confusion.

"We should soul resonate first, up until now we've been trying to get my normal wavelength and your erratic one to align, but if align ourselves first, maybe your emotions will flow to me better, and I can handle the pressure,"

Lucas sat up as he considered the idea, "That makes sense, maybe it's worth a shot?"

Mira nodded as she stood up and wrapped the cloth around her wrist. She transformed into blade state once again and Lucas picked her up, his hand burned against her due to the remnants of his Ivonz state, but it wasn't anything Mira couldn't handle.

"Ready?" She asked.

"Yeah,"

The two closed their eyes and focused on aligning their souls. Lucas was having a harder time trying to quell his wavelength after entering the Ivonz state, but eventually he managed to bring it down to a reasonable level of calm, Mira meanwhile was trying to work herself up, her wavelength normally would be too calm to work with Lucas' but she knew that his would be harder to control fresh from his empowered state. The pair remained calm, quiet, and focused as they continued to work on amplifying their wavelengths, until they felt the connection.

"Now, Soul Resonance!" The pair shouted together.

In a flash of light Lucas once again donned the armor and the second sword appeared in his hand. He looked himself over to confirm everything was in place before he looked inward to find Mira working on patching up some rough spots in their wavelength.

"Are you ready?" he asked.

Mira laid her hand upon one section of their combined soul and the spikes lessened and eventually it returned to the calm, round waves that it normally was.

"Yeah, go ahead," She told him.

"Alright, here we go… entering state in 3…2…1…," In another burst of adrenaline Lucas' armor began to pour out steam from his visor and any other holes in the armor.

Mira was readying herself as he counted down, and once he activated the state she felt their wavelength began to try and dissipate. She hadn't been ready for this level of aggression, but they hadn't disconnected from Soul Resonance yet, and she used that as a means to balance their soul. She remembered something Stein had taught them in class when they'd been learning about Soul Resonance, when resonating, a Weapon was like the amp to a guitar that the Meister was playing, she normally would amplify Lucas' power and send it back to him, but doing that now would cause his wavelength to go well beyond her control. Instead she tried a different tactic.

"I'm going to try and siphon off some of your power," She told him.

"What? Why?"

"Do you remember what Professor Stein said about the amp in class?"

"Yeah, you amplify my power and send it back to me,"

"I can't do that while we're like this, if I try it'll send you further out of control and we'll lose soul resonance, but if I can send it to me, I can begin to understand what it's like to have your wavelength like this,"

Lucas nodded, "Go ahead, but be careful,"

Mira exhaled as she readied herself for the attempt. She made the mental image of a Lucas holding a guitar plugged into an amp, and then she blocked the amp off with a wall, using that as her focus point she began to place barricades along their wavelength so that the power would funnel back to her. It worked, she felt her body temperature rising, her mind began to go blank as simple aggressive instincts took over. It was too much, she couldn't handle this, she felt her wavelength going out of her control, but then she felt something else.

Lucas. He was there with her, she felt his presence in her soul, she felt his control over these aggressions, she felt his power radiating off his connection to her and she felt how he was trying to hold these feelings back from her.

In a flash of light, the two were standing in the clearing with a new weapon in Lucas' hands. A Greatsword that felt lightweight in his hand, and a large Tower shield that felt like nothing. Lucas looked down to see the armored plates on his body had almost doubled in thickness, he looked like a living fortress with a sword and shield to match.

"Mira… this is…"

"This feeling is incredible," She said, "It's… so free…"

After maintaining the form for a moment the two separated and Mira reverted to her human form. She collapsed beside Lucas and the two were heaving.

"It'll be a while… before we can use that state," Lucas told her between breaths, "We'll need to get… better at Soul Resonance,"

Mira simply nodded in agreement. The two laid there for what felt like hours before Lucas finally sat up. Mira followed suit and they looked at each before smiles spread across both their faces. Lucas, on instinct, leaned in toward Mira and he kissed her. She was surprised at first but closed her eyes and relaxed. After a moment they broke the contact and Lucas looked into her eyes.

"Ready to try again?"

"Of course," She replied softly.
