One night in the highway of Route 66, Lightning McQueen and the townsfolk were taking a drive.
The drive had been silent for most of the time.
"Is anyone bored yet?" asked Lightning.
"Yeah," the townsfolk said in unison.
"What should we do, man?" asked Ramone.
Sheriff thought about it. "Hmm, I know!" he said. "Why don't I tell us a ghost story?"
The others agreed.
Sheriff cleared his throat. "Okay, once there was an old car, a very old car," he said. "He was trying to find his way home after taking a long drive. On the way, he saw three white lights, and they were moving right towards him. When the old car opened his eyes, what he saw in front of him were ghosts!"
Mater jumped back in fear when Sheriff finished.
"Don't worry, Mater," said Lightning. "Ghosts aren't real."
Suddenly, the townsfolk heard howling noises.
"What was that?" asked Luigi.
"I don't know," said Sally.
"Maybe we're just hearing things," said Fillmore.
"I don't think that's what you think, Fillmore," said Sarge.
Then, the townsfolk sensed something white flashing behind them. They turned around and saw three ghosts.
The townsfolk were shocked.
"It's the ghosts!" exclaimed Mater.
"Run!" shouted Lightning.
So the townsfolk drove off as the ghosts started chasing them.
Lizzie couldn't catch up, so she stayed where she was while the others continued driving.
Then, townfolk stopped in front of a maze and gasped.
"How are we gonna get through this?" asked Flo.
No one had any idea.
Then, Lightning noticed that Lizzie wasn't around. "Guys, where's Lizzie?"
The others noticed Lizzie wasn't around as well.
"Oh, no," said Sally. "Lizzie? Lizzie, where are you?"
But Lizzie could not be heard.
The rest of the townsfolk looked around, but there was no sign of Lizzie.
"What if the ghosts got her?" asked Mater.
"Well, wherever she is, we've got to find her," said Sally.
"But what can we do?" asked Lightning.
Sally didn't know, and neither did the others.
"I guess we're just gonna have to go through this maze," said Sheriff.
"Are you crazy?" said Sarge. "This place could be dangerous. What if we get lost?"
"As long as we stay together, we'll be fine," said Sheriff. "Now, come on. We gotta find Lizzie before anything bad happens to her."
With that, the townsfolk started to drive into the maze. Some of them were nervous.
"Are you sure this place is safe?" asked Mater.
"Don't worry," said Lightning. "It's just a bit of darkness."
"I don't think this is the best place to look," said Ramone.
"It sure is scary and strange around here," said Luigi.
"You mean, this place is haunted?" asked Fillmore.
"Yes," said Luigi. "That's what I meant."
"Do you think this is where the ghosts live?" asked Mater.
"Don't be silly," said Lightning. "Ghosts can't invade mazes."
Suddenly, the townsfolk heard howling noises again.
"I recognize those noises," said Sarge.
"We shouldn't be here," said Flo.
"Yeah," said Sally. "Let's get out of here."
So the townsfolk turned around and started to drive out of the maze.
Then, the three ghosts blocked the townsfolk's path.
The townsfolk screamed and drove back into the maze. The ghosts chased them again.
As the townsfolk drove, they took multiple paths throughout the maze. Then they stopped at a dead end.
The ghosts were caught up to the townsfolk.
"Look out!" shouted Lightning.
So the townsfolk drove over to a corner and cowered.
The ghosts approached the townsfolk, who were all cowered together.
Red was crying in fear while the others shuddered.
"You don't scare us, ghosts!" Sheriff called out to the ghosts.
"Yes, they can," said Mater.
"No, they can't!" said Sheriff.
Sheriff picked up a rock and threw it towards the ghosts, but the ghosts avoided the rock.
"Get out, ghosts!" Luigi called out to the ghosts.
Guido helped Luigi pick up rocks and throw them towards the ghosts, but the ghosts avoided the rocks again.
"Go away!" Sarge called out to the ghosts.
With that, Sarge also picked up a rock ad threw it towards the ghosts, but the ghosts avoided the rock once again.
The townsfolk tried everything they could to get rid of the ghosts, but nothing worked.
The townsfolk panted.
"Now what are we gonna do?" asked Lightning.
Then, Sally had an idea. "I know!" she said. "Why don't we try scaring the ghosts ourselves?"
"Good idea, Sally," said Lightning. "But how are we gonna do that?"
Then, Mater remembered how he scared the tractors while tractor tipping, which gave him an idea. "I know!" he said. "I'll scare the ghosts myself."
So Mater approached the ghosts and honked his horn at them, causing them to faint and disappear.
"Good one, Mater," said Lightning.
"Thanks, buddy," said Mater.
"Well, we're not quite finished yet," said Sheriff. "We still gotta find Lizzie."
"But how are we gonna get out of here?" asked Lightning.
"The exit's that way," said Sheriff, pointing his headlights towards the exit.
So the townsfolk drove out of the maze and back to the highway.
"Lizzie, where are you?" Sally called out.
Then, the townsfolk heard snoring.
"Wait a minute," said Ramone. "That snoring sounds familiar."
"So, that means she's somewhere around here!" said Sally. "Come on!"
The townsfolk followed Sally until they spotted a sleeping Lizzie in a corner.
"Lizzie, wake up!" shouted Sally.
But Lizzie didn't wake up, for she had deaf hearing.
"I've got this one," Mater said as he drove over to Lizzie.
Mater honked his horn again, causing Lizzie to wake up.
"What happened?" asked Lizzie.
"Long story," said Lightning.
"Ooh, I'd love to hear about it," said Lizzie.
"Okay," said Sally. "We'll tell you on the way home."
So the townsfolk told Lizzie everything that happened as they drove home.
The End
