It was the year 2281, nearly 2 centuries had passed since a nuclear war that destroyed the majority of the world and all civilization. A new faction from the old world calling themselves the "Brotherhood of Steel" arose from the ashes of the pre-war military, and vowed to preserve technology and prevent the Great War from ever happening again. They typically dawned power armor and energy rifles, like laser and plasma rifles, but sometimes they also used traditional firearms and body armor. In the great windy city of Chicago, the ruins of the city were patrolled and protected by the Brotherhood of Steel, as it was one of their most important strongholds.

The Brotherhood had been battling the Enclave for years, and their battle was about to reach a climax in Chicago. The Enclave were a remnant of the pre-war US government that wanted to kill everything that wasn't born in a vault, but luckily the Brotherhood still controlled a good section of Chicago, and had set up reinforced guard sections in the city, and utilized fixed up pre-war vehicles like humvees with gun emplacements to help fortify their positions.

The Enclave had set up a base in the ruins of the old O'Hare airport, and from there they had been launching attacks on the Brotherhood's positions in the city. But the Brotherhood was not going to give up their city without a fight, and they were determined to drive the Enclave out.

The Battle of Chicago was about to begin. The Brotherhood had some air support, with armed gunship vertibirds and a few helicopters, but the Enclave had a much larger air force, with multiple gunships and bombers. The Enclave also had power armor and energy weapons, which the Brotherhood did not have in large numbers.

The battle was fought fiercely on both sides, with heavy casualties on both sides. The Enclave had the advantage in the air, but the Brotherhood had the advantage on the ground, with their fortified positions and heavy weapons. After a long and brutal battle, the Brotherhood was finally able to drive the Enclave out of the city, and retake control of Chicago. Civilians got to enjoy a peaceful life for the time being, but with the Enclave now gone, some raider factions vying for control tried to raid Chicago, but most of them were killed off or driven out by the Brotherhood. The people of Chicago were safe for now, but the war was far from over. Chicago still held vital pre-war technology that both the Enclave and the Brotherhood wanted, and the war between them would continue. Although the Enclave were all but defeated, so they had to rely on stealth and guerilla tactics.

During a public speech, Elder Andrew Maxson, the leader of the Chicago Brotherhood of Steel, declared that the Enclave would be destroyed, and that the Brotherhood would be the ones to do it. He also said that the people of Chicago were now under the protection of the Brotherhood, and that they would defend the city to the death. The people of Chicago cheered, and the war continued. However, some people were determined to end the war themselves instead of relying on the Brotherhood. One such man was Byran O'Hare. Bryan had recently purchased an intact, armed military tank from a man who stole it from a sealed garage somewhere in Illinois. He had it delivered to Chicago, which he then proudly drove through the streets, towards the O'Hare Airport to take on the Enclave himself.

The Enclave saw the tank coming, and prepared for battle. They sent out their best gunships and power armored soldiers to take on the tank. Bryan O'Hare was not deterred though, and he kept driving towards the airport. The Enclave opened fire, but their weapons had no effect on the tank. Bryan O'Hare then returned fire, and with a few well placed shots, he destroyed the Enclave's gunships and power armored soldiers. He then drove his tank into the airport, and began shelling the Enclave's base.

The Enclave was caught off guard, and they were not prepared to deal with a tank. Bryan O'Hare destroyed their base, and killed all of the Enclave soldiers inside. With the Enclave's base in ruins, and their soldiers all dead, the Enclave was forced to retreat from Chicago. They left behind all of their equipment and supplies, which the Brotherhood took for themselves.

With the Enclave gone, and the raider factions dealt with, the people of Chicago finally had peace. The Brotherhood of Steel was now the dominant force in the city, and they would protect it from all enemies, both domestic and foreign.
