Wakanda
As soon as they had found at least a small sliver of the willpower to recover, they returned to the palace, although they were all devastated on every level possible and imaginable.
Oliver stared into the mirror before he punched it as he screamed in rage, cracking the glass before he kicked a nearby cart with tools as it toppled. "Damn it! Damn it all to Hell!"
Natasha approached him and held him by his shoulder, trying to assure him, while everyone looked at Oliver worriedly.
"We have to go after him." Pietro said as everyone turned to him.
"Pietro's right." Barry said, trying to be hopeful. "He's still out there. We'll find him, get the Stones, undo what he did—"
"And he's just gonna wipe the floor with us again! You saw how easily he beat us all just now! We are lucky to be alive, if we go after him, we're as good as dead this time!" Oliver exploded as he pointed outside and if Oliver Queen of all people lost his cool, it was very bad as he panted out in disbelief. "Face it. We can't beat Thanos. We've lost." He sighed heavily, on verge of tears. "We've lost Sara, Bucky, Sam, T'Challa, Cisco and god knows who else. It's over, guys. How are we going to get everyone back, now that we're short half of our people?"
Everyone was silent for a long moment, having no idea how to answer before Natasha spoke up after what felt like an eternity, approaching her husband. "Oliver—"
Oliver stormed off as everyone looked at him worriedly. They had never seen him so devastated.
Barry saw Peter at the base of the stairs, just sitting and staring blankly at the floor at his feet before Barry approached him.
"I… I just still can't believe what just happened." Peter said and Barry nodded as he held Peter by his shoulder and nodded.
"I don't think anyone can." Barry said before Peter pulled out his phone.
"May's not answering my calls." Peter said worriedly.
"Don't." Barry said as he held Peter by his shoulder. "Don't assume the worst. Maybe it's because the people behind telecommunications are gone too. I get that you're worried but the second you give into fear and despair, it's gonna break you eventually."
Peter nodded.
"It's OK. It's OK. Try not to talk." Matt said, holding dying Elektra in his arms.
"I know… I know now… what it feels to be good." Elektra breathed out.
"Just relax. Try… try not to talk." Matt stammered, trying to keep her awake.
"Does it always hurt that much?" Elektra asked, chuckling.
"Yeah, it… it always hurts that much."
"It is not the end." Elektra whispered before closing her eyes as Matt felt her body go cold and her heartbeat slow down until it stopped as sadness filled him and he laid her body on the floor, while Nobu got up.
Matt and Sara were in bed, with Sara placing her head on Matt's shoulder, while he was combing her hair in between his fingers.
"Why are you trying to help me, Matt? You don't owe me anything." Sara said after they had made love.
"Maybe not to you… but to myself. You remind me of her, you know?" Matt said as Sara looked at him with conflicted thoughts.
"So I'm just a charity case you're trying to fix? Trying to pull me out of that darkness since you feel sorry for me and you wish you could've saved her?" Sara asked.
"No. Of course not." Matt said. "I mean… I understand what it's like to be lost in anger, guilt and grief and become so consumed in it that you don't see another way out. But there is a way out. If you keep trying to look for it, you can find it. And you don't have to do it alone."
Sara considered, acknowledging his point. "If people like Ollie and Nat can… I guess I can try."
"And I'm with you every step of the way." Matt said as they smiled at each other before Sara placed herself on top of Matt as they kissed, while he placed his hand on her neck and another one towards her breasts, while she held him by his muscular arms.
Beneath the Midland Circle building, the fight between them both was intense as Elektra didn't relent but Matt held her before she wrapped her legs around him and tried to knock him down but Matt pinned Elektra down. "For all your talk about darkness, I don't think you want to be alone in it."
Elektra growled before she rolled over, switching positions with Matt. "I've seen death."
"And you're afraid of it." Matt pointed out.
"Not anymore… because you'll be by my side, where you belong." Elektra shot back.
Matt kicked Elektra back before they both got up on their feet. She countered Matt's attack and knocked him back before grabbing him in chokehold and holding her sai as Matt was too weak to struggle out and then they both realized that this was it. No way out, no escape from the explosion, two lovers, fighting to death, buried under the rubble.
"This is what we get, huh?" Matt laughed. "For ever thinking we could make it work."
"Who says we didn't?" Elektra said, panting out in exhaustion from the fight. "We're together. Something I've wanted since I first laid my eyes on you. We can have it forever."
Matt grabbed Elektra's sai and struggled out from her hold before hitting her in the face as they both fell down before nearing each other.
"You know, we're gonna die here." Matt pointed out.
"No. This is what living feels like." Elektra said. They kissed each other as everything started to crumble and ruins and darkness started to consume them both…
"The story of God's perfect servant, Job. He prayed every day at dawn, with his knees on the ground, his face on the dirt. Slaughtered ten goats, one for each of his children, and burned them at the altar in God's honor. Of all of God's soldiers, Job, he was the most loyal." Matt narrated, while he was in the basement of the Clinton Church.
"I know the story, Matthew." His mother, Sister Maggie pointed out.
"Oh, then you know what happens next. God murdered all ten of his children in cold blood. Scorched every inch of Job's land. Lashed at his body till his skin was covered in bloody welts. God rained shit and misery on the life of his most perfect servant. And still Job would not curse him. You know what I realized?" Matt asked sarcastically as he sat down on the bed before continuing. "Job was a pussy. You see, that was me, Sister. I suffered willingly. I gave my, uh, sweat and blood and skin without complaint. Because I too believed I was God's soldier." He chuckled and shook his head. "Well, not anymore. I am what I do in the dark now. I bleed only for myself."
Sister Maggie took off her cross necklace and put it on Matt's hand but he threw it at the mattress of the bed with a scoff.
"You weren't listening." Matt said.
"I heard every spiteful word." Maggie said as she picked up the cross and hung it on the bedside lamp. "You might hate God right now, but the feeling's not mutual."
"No, I don't hate him. I've just seen his true face is all." Matt corrected. "And for the record, I had friends. I had a life. I care about people, and I'm choosing to let them believe I am gone. I'm not Job…" He took a breath. "And I know my truth now."
"What truth?" Maggie asked as Matt got up from the bed.
"Well, that in front of this God, I'd rather die as the Devil than live as Matt Murdock." Matt said.
"Do you have any idea how much life has sucked for everyone, while you were off doing your thing?" Foggy snapped.
"No but I'm sorry, Foggy. Maybe I was wrong to… to push you away." Matt admitted.
"OK, it's insanely hard to fight with you, if you keep agreeing with me." Foggy said, worried.
"Good, because I don't wanna fight with you. Look, the way I've treated you, the way I've treated you all, you've deserved better." Matt said apologetically.
"Yes, we did." Foggy nodded.
"You've deserved better…" Matt repeated as he sat down, broken.
"We all did." Steve said as he sat next to Matt and held him by his shoulder. "We're not gonna give up. We're gonna fight back. No matter how many times we get knocked down, we're gonna get up on our feet."
Matt chuckled, in spite of his current feelings. It sounded like something his father, Battlin' Jack Murdock, would have said. He then turned to Steve, hopeful. "Tell me you have a plan."
"Not sure yet… but we're trying to think of something. But we're not gonna let Thanos get away with it for sure." Steve said as Matt nodded. "For now, the best thing we can do is get some sleep and go home, find out how much damage has Thanos done and then figure out what to do next. The world has lost all hope. They need to know we're still alive, so that we can bring it to them."
Tahiti
Coulson was sitting on the beach, staring contemplatively at the sea, wondering what had happened, when he heard engines behind him and sand was blowing onto his back as Zephyr landed.
"Sir?" Mack called out as he, Daisy and Fitz approached Coulson before they saw how saddened he seemed to be.
"She's gone. May. She turned into dust." Coulson whispered as everyone nodded. Daisy felt tears filling her eyes and her heart being crushed to learn that her mentor was also gone as Coulson turned to her and hugged her, assuring her.
"So did Jemma, Yo-Yo, Davis and Deke." Fitz said and Coulson looked at him with a look of sympathy.
"I'm sorry, Fitz." Coulson said.
"It's happening all over the world. People turning into dust. It's nothing like we've ever seen before." Mack explained.
"Well, then…" Coulson took a breath. "I guess we better figure it out fast."
S.T.A.R. Labs, Central City
Barry had sped back into S.T.A.R. Labs and entered the Cortex looking around, while Caitlin rushed in too.
"Allegra! Ralph!" Barry shouted.
"Anyone!" Caitlin yelled.
"Allen!"
Barry recognized the voice as he sped to a nearby corridor and sighed in relief, hugging the unexpected visitor. "Harry."
"Thank God." Harry said as he also sighed in relief. "Allegra, she and Dibny gone. I checked the footage, they turned into…"
"…dust, I know, so did Cisco and others and half of all life in this universe." Barry said.
"And it's not just here. It's happened on my Earth as well. Allen, tell me what the hell happened to my daughter!" Harry exploded as he grabbed Barry by his arms and slammed him to the wall. "I swear, if you were messing with the timeline again—"
"Stop it!" Caitlin exclaimed as she tried to pull Harry away.
"Hey, back off!" Barry exploded as he shoved Harry, freeing himself from Harry's grip, on verge of tears and Harry realized how insensitive and irrational he was being as he had the decency to look ashamed of his overreaction. "You think you're the only one who has lost something? My best friend turned into dust in my arms! I don't even know if Patty or Joe—"
"Barry?"
Barry recognized the voice and sped to the lounge, hugging Patty tightly, while she hugged him back.
"Oh, my God, you're OK. Thank God you're OK." Barry whispered, sobbing.
"Yeah. Yeah. You're OK too." Patty said, also on verge of tears. "Barry, what's going on? People are vanishing into dust—"
"I know. I know. It was Thanos." Barry said as he looked at Harry and Patty. "There's a lot I need to explain to both of you."
The Arrow lair, Star City
"Thea!" Oliver shouted as the elevator opened and he and Natasha burst out, looking around. "Roy!"
"Oliver."
Oliver turned to see Rory and Rene at the computers.
"Hoss, what the hell happened?" Rene asked.
"Where's Thea and Roy?" Natasha asked.
Rory and Rene were silent but as they noticed the piles of dust on the floor, it became obvious what had happened and Oliver felt his heart crush even more as he fell on his knees and Natasha covered her mouth, more tears filling the eyes of both of them. How many people they love were they going to lose?
A moment later, the elevator opened as Slade emerged and upon seeing how devastated Team Arrow was and that they was short of few people, he realized he was not the only one who had lost someone close to him.
"Kid…" Slade whispered.
Oliver turned to see his 'brother' and approached him and as he saw the devastated look in his eye, Oliver realized Slade had lost his son too as they hugged each other, doing whatever they could to comfort the only family they had left.
Metropolis
"What do you know? What caused this?" Clark asked as they sat down at a now abandoned café due to the global panic, with Clark and Kara still unable to process what had happened.
"The Infinity Stones." Zor-El explained as he drank from a mug of coffee. "They are the only thing capable of eradicating so many lives on such large scale at once."
"I thought they were just a story. I read about them, when I was studying in the Fortress." Clark said.
"I only know about these things by name. What exactly are they?" Kara asked.
"When the Big Bang gave birth to the multiverse, six crystals were created. Every stone has immense control over a different aspect of existence itself. Space. Mind. Reality. Power. Time. Soul." Zor-El explained. "Just to control single one of them takes vast knowledge, power and resilience. In order to cause destruction on such mass scale, someone had to use all six of them at once."
"But who? And why?" Kara asked, not understanding.
"Thanos." Clark said as he focused his super-hearing. "I know where we can get some answers. Let's go."
Underworld
Diana Prince, Amazon princess of Themyscira was fighting demons in the Underworld, when she cut down the last of them, while Hades descended from his throne.
"I've honored our agreement, Hades. They shall be guardians of your place. You know that tricking me would be very unwise." Diana said.
"Indeed it would be. You have another job to do, in the world of Men." Hades said as they saw Charon on his boat ferry countless of souls across River Styx, many more than Diana had ever seen.
"What have you done?" Diana demanded as she whirled on the god of the Underworld.
"Not me. Someone else. And you are lucky that the Fates have a role for you." Hades said.
"What role?" Diana asked.
"Find the Avengers and you shall see." Hades said and with a gesture of his hand, a portal opened, sucking Diana in.
New York
A portal opened in an alley as Diana emerged before the portal closed behind her. Diana immediately sensed something was off, the usually full streets were now less crowded and Diana could sense… despair, fear, disbelief. What had happened here? Quickly putting her civilian clothes on, she went into the street and found a woman curled to a ball, leaning onto the wall and sobbing as Diana knelt down to her and placed a hand on her shoulder to assure her.
"Are you alright?" Diana asked and the woman looked up at Diana, staring at her as if she was crazy.
"Are you serious?" The woman demanded angrily as she gestured. "Look around you! People have turned into dust! My brother and niece are gone and—"
"Calm down. Calm down." Diana said, holding the woman by her shoulders and trying to give her an assuring look. "Yelling is not going to help anyone."
The woman panted out, suppressing her sobs and wiping her tears as she realized that Diana was only trying to help. "I know. I'm sorry, it's just…" She broke down in tears, while Diana pulled her in for a hug, doing whatever little she could to comfort her, while fondling her back.
After what felt like an eternity, Diana pulled away and met the woman's eyes, looking at her firmly. "Tell me exactly what happened."
Nelson, Murdock & Page
Matt entered the office, when he heard Karen's heartbeat and Karen rushed to him, hugging him tightly. "Thank God."
"Yeah. Thank God." Matt said, happy that at least Karen was still alive as she pulled away, still in disbelief.
"Foggy, Claire and thousands of people—"
"I know. I know." Matt nodded.
"Matt, what the hell is going on?" Karen asked, sobbing.
Matt was about to open his mouth, when Karen began crying into his shoulder, while he patted her on his back, doing his best to comfort her.
Queens, New York
Peter entered his and Aunt May's apartment as he called out. "May? May!" He looked around, checking every room. "May!"
Peter then stopped, when he saw in the living room on the floor a pile of dust as he felt his heart crushed.
"No…"
Peter fell on his knees, completely devastated as he ran his fingers down the pile of dust and the terrible realization hit him.
"Please, May, no, not her, please, no…"
Peter began sobbing hysterically, completely losing it. This was just sick. This was unfair. Peter was just begging for this to be some sort of a sick joke or a nightmare from which he was going to wake up at any moment.
Outer space
Tony and Nebula were onboard Benatar, the spaceship of the Guardians of the Galaxy, trying to kill some time as they were apparently stranded and tired, Tony sat down, recording a message.
"Hey, Miss Potts. Pep." Tony leaned back and sighed. "If you find this recording, don't post it on social media. It's gonna be a real tearjerker. I don't know if you're ever gonna see these. I don't know if you're still…" He breathed out, hoping that the love of his life did not turn into dust as well. "Oh, God, I hope so."
Tony and Nebula attempted to stay awake as they were losing oxygen in the ship as they both were passing out before they saw another ship arrive as they both lost consciousness. From the cockpit, Enoch scanned two signs of life onboard.
S.T.A.R. Labs, Central City
"I still can't believe it." Joe said, while talking to Barry on the phone.
"I know. But we're working on a way to get them back. I don't know if there is but we're gonna try." Barry said.
"Just do it fast. Please." Joe said. He didn't care at this point if the Devil was going to bring his family back to life as Barry hung up and turned to Harry.
"How are we?" Barry asked.
"I'm using A.R.G.U.S. and S.H.I.E.L.D. satellites to scan the Earth and the space for any unique energy frequencies. Hopefully, we can use them to find Thanos." Harry explained.
"Where is that?" Caitlin pointed as Harry zoomed in.
"San Francisco." Harry said.
"I doubt that Thanos would go there." Barry noted.
"But still, considering that it's the only interdimensional energy signature on Earth that we've detected so far around the time Thanos snapped his fingers, seems worth investigating." Harry said.
Later, San Francisco
Barry and Harry approached the abandoned van as Barry examined it. "Are you sure this was it?"
"My calculations aren't wrong, Allen. The signature came from here." Harry said, offended.
"OK, let's see what it is." Barry said as he took a look at the back of the van to see a machine. "Harry, take a look at this."
Harry took a look before turning to the computers behind the van as he took a look. "Looks like some sort of an interdimensional portal." He then noticed the radio and mic as he picked it up and called out. "Hello? Anyone copy?"
"Hello? Who's there?"
Barry recognized the voice as he picked the mic. "Scott? Scott Lang? Ant-Man?"
"Wait, you're not Hank. Who is this?" Scott asked, recognizing the voice.
"It's Barry Allen. The Flash." Barry said.
"Flash? Where's Hank, Janet and Hope?" Scott asked and as Barry and Harry saw the specks of dust around, they already had a pretty good idea as they looked at him in sympathy.
"It's complicated. Where are you?" Barry asked.
"In the quantum realm collecting quantum particles, they were supposed to get me out of here minutes ago, what's going on?" Scott asked.
"It's a long story. We'll explain everything once we get you out of here." Barry said as Harry typed some commands into the computer and a moment later the machine turned on, opening the quantum tunnel as Scott jumped out and enlarged in normal size as he opened his mask.
"Thank you. What the hell was taking Hank so long? And where is he?" Scott asked as Barry and Harry turned to each other before turning back to Scott with grim looks.
What is kind of mind-boggling is that Russos confirmed that Aunt May survived the Snap in Infinity War but Jon Watts retconned it in Far From Home with Aunt May also turning into dust, which I find stupid. She is dusted here, since as I said, I have plans for Peter here.
The Matt/Sara flashback is from one of the sequels that I had planned after 'The Hood and the Widow' before I decided to scrap them after how Disney phase blew my plans to hell, the other ones are obviously from The Defenders and Daredevil Season 3.
Hope it makes sense how they find Scott and he gets out.
So, what do you guys think?
Please review and let me know if you have been enjoying this so far.
