Professor Charles Xavier drives up to a vast mansion, located in Westchester County, New York. Two others, Erik Magnus Lehnsherr and Dr. Moira MacTaggert accompany him in the drive to the mansion.
Erik looked out of the window across at the grounds; the laid-out lawns and gardens and then up at the large house before him. "Is this really yours, Charles?"
Charles nodded. "Yes indeed... an old family house, but, as I say before, my friend, it's truly ours now!"
"Honestly, Charles, I just don't know how you survived out here for all these years in the real world…' Erik commented, sarcastically. 'When life could have been a lot easier for you!"
"Well, Erik, know that his endured hardship was softened somewhat by his first meeting of me, in Oxford.' stated Moira. 'Isn't that right Charles."
Charles laughed this off, seeing the jest and humour behind his close friend's comments.
.
Once the car stopped before the vast mansion, they stepped out of the car with him.
"We're actually going to do this aren't we?" spoke out Erik, turning to face Charles for a second.
Moira looked at the two men and with a smile nodded. "It looks like we are."
"Well if there's another race of beings out there, then why shouldn't it be us who helps them find their place in the world!" stated Charles in reply, placing a hand on Erik's shoulder.
"And, just how many students do you hope to have here at your school, once it's all up and running?" asked Moira, looking across to Charles.
"Mmm… as many as I can manage!" he answered, not really knowing just yet how many others there are like him and Erik out in the world.
They all stood side by side looking up at the mansion with hope and optimism, even if all have different views on the future.

- A plane, an old de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito, is seen flying over a beach on the coast of Hawaii, smoke billowing out of the engine.
Two boys land in water just off a beach, waves lapping at their feet, their parachute laying out on the surface of the water.
The elder, Scott, knew that he had to act fast to save himself and his brother, as if he didn't then the parachute would no doubt drag them down under the waves. He, therefore, unclipped the chute, and as he pulled his brother, Alex, close and made their way to sure.
Out of the water, the pair are cold and alone on the shoreline, the brothers hold each other tightly.
Scott's eyes for a second seemed to glow bright burning red, and as he felt the heat, the lad instantly closed his eyes shut tight, tighter than he had ever closed them before.
Once he felt the glow and burning fade he looked down on his younger brother, Alex. "It's going to be okay, yeah Alex… I'll get help… all's going to be fine… trust me." stated his brother, but then Scott collapsed and fell to the floor.
.
The lad slowly comes around; waking up later on his own in a hospital bed, his brother nowhere to be seen. He called out for help and demanded to know where his brother was the instant that a nurse came before him.
However, the nurse answered. "My child, you are lucky to be alive..."
"But my brother... please where is Alex... he was with me... with me on the beach!"
"Please you must calm yourself." stated the nurse.
"My brother... tell me where's my brother." called out Scott yet again.
The nurse looked confused for a second. "I am sorry, but you...' she paused for a second. 'You were found alone..."
.
A few weeks, after a long and extensive search for both his parents and brother, which involved the state guard, air traffic control and navy, the boy, Scott, with no sign of either the crashed plane nor any further results of his lost brother; had been taken back to America, and due to the passing of his family found himself being placed into care, Stourling House, a state run orphanage.

Erik wanted to drive forward with their idea of a school of the gifted, however, one where the mutants they gather would be trained with the means to fight and defend.
But Charles could let this happen, as he had other hopes and wishes for the school, stating to Erik that, "No Erik this isn't going to happen... this isn't going to be a school that trained mutants for war against humanity... this is going to be a school where we mutants are taught and trained to aid and support humanity."
Erik shook his head once he heard this, stating firmly in his reply. "We mutants, Charles, are better than humans!"
Charles tried to make Erik see some sense and reconsider his stance.
But Erik wasn't about to be persuaded, solely and strongly believing that he was the one creating the right path here. 'Why can't you see that it's humanity who should be serving us if they wish to survive!"
Charles and Erik would argue about this day after day with Moira stuck in the middle.
.
And yet again weeks later the two began to argue.
"We will have to work alongside humanity here, Erik, if we are to succeed... Together we must get them to understand that we aren't monsters... That we aren't things to fear and hate!"
"And do you really think that's a possibility?"
"We must try… and show them, Erik, that despite our abilities, we are still the same."
Erik shook his head at hearing this, to him, Charles' beliefs were slowly sounding so alien, so far-fetched. "Abilities? Really Charles… do you have to underplay what we have... We have powers… And that, in turn, means that we are the more powerful species."
"We are only equals…"
Erik rolled his eyes. "Always the dreamer, Charles, always the dreamer…. do you really think they'll be a day where humanity lets us live alongside them... A day where we as mutants can live without hiding who we truly are!"
"We can and will... but only by showing them that there are those on are willing to stand by their side!"
"Oh come off it.' Erik said, his temper running thin. 'Once they hear of our existence humanity will wish to round us all up and see us in cages!"
"That fair, Erik, as crossed my mind… I would be lying if I said it didn't, but know that is never one of my dreams I wish to come true…"
"But would you still stand if they did come for us?"
Charles nods in reply to his friend's question. "Yes… yes I would stand and strike down on anyone who wishes to harm you or me, is that what you want to hear… Does that please you!?"
"Common ground at last.' responded Erik. 'We see eye to eye that a group is needed, but can't see to agree of means!"
