Shortly after Moira's departure, Charles crossed paths with United States' FBI agent, Fred Duncan, as he had been tasked to investigate the rise in strange reports and happening throughout America; reports of people walking through walls, individuals with the seemly ability to shape-shift and sightings of people blasting red beams from their eyes.

("I believe we need to talk, Agent Duncan.")

Fred heard the voice in his own head, it was as clear as day. He looked around slightly caught off guard. He quickly goes for his gun in hopes of protecting himself.

("I promise you, sir, there will be no need for weapons… rest assured I am not here to cause you any harm.")

"What is this… what's going on?" he asked out loud, but Charles still heard him. The agent still did not move his hand from his weapon.

"Agent, as I said, I don't wish to hurt you... I merely want to speak with you, and see if there is any chance we can help each other." stated Charles calmly, as he now drew closer to the agent in his chair.

"How did you do that?' asked Fred, tapping the side of his head. 'You were in my head, I could hear you as clear as day!"

Charles explained that he was a mutant, and what his abilities were to the agent.

.

Fred took his hand away from his weapon at the point and agreed to speak openly with Charles, somehow sensing he was in no clear danger.

.

Charles was able to tap into Fred's better nature; with Fred stating that. "I strongly feel that you wish to help, Charles, so yes, maybe it could be in our best interests to work alongside each other... And to gain some truth and understanding about these certain gifted individuals..."

"And what will you tell your superiors, agent?"

"For now at least, I will go back to Washington and merely tell my chief that I was unable to find any positive leads on these reports... that maybe further time is needed to know for sure if these reports can be believed or not!"

Charles thanked the man.

But in return, Fred warmed Charles of two things, one that "This never gets back to his chief!" and two "if any of these mutants cause harm or affect national security then he can't help anymore!" and that "I would have to take action."

Charles knew the risks, and in return he stated that. "Know, that I will inform you of any mutant I believed to be a threat... I do not wish to risk my hopes of a better future for all in question."

Charles goes and visits Jean's parents, John and Elaine Grey, after he had felt Jean's mind being at breaking point.

Charles drove up to the Grey's house, it was nothing special, just a house on a suburban street. He knocked on the door and waited.

He introduces himself to the man who answers, they had chatted at great lengths over the phone and John welcomed the man before him.

.

John then showed Charles into the living you.

Charles stated to John and Elaine that, "I would be able to help her, settle her mind... and to rest her heart." Charles here placing a hand on his chest

They agreed for her to stay at the mansion, as John saw no other choice and did so, even though Elaine was still troubled by this, she knew it was for the better.

.

Charles in his chair comes before Jean, the red-haired girl was sitting on her own, staring straight of the window even though the television was on. He saw her sorrow and sensed her pain and anger all rushing through her body. "Jean… Jean, it's me your father… I've asked for someone today to come and speak with you.' She turned her head slowly and again just stared at the professor. 'He's… ere… he's a friend, he hopes that he can help you." Her father John stated casting a hand at the professor.

"I'm sorry, young lady, let me introduce myself,' he places a hand on his chest. 'I am Professor Charles Xavier, how do you do?"

'A professor…' she thought to herself.

However, Charles had heard her so clearly, as if she was talking out loud. "Yes, Jean, a professor… and I am here to offer you help!"

"How… how can you hear my thoughts?" she asked him, looking slightly troubled and confused.

Charles taps the side of his head with his finger. ("Ah, as you can tell for yourself, my dear, aren't the only one with gifts.")

Her father looked at both in turn not really knowing what was going on, but was happy she was talking at least and overlooked it, as he was happy and overcome.

She realised there and then that when he spoke, his lips do not move. Jean comes to realise that she's actually hearing his voice inside her head. ("You were in my head, weren't you… You're… you're just like me, aren't you?")

He nodded to her.

("I thought I was the only one… I thought that I was alone.")

("No Jean, you are not alone…")

Charles turned to face her father, John, and asked of him "May we, sir, just have some time alone? If ere that is okay with you?"

"Oh yes, Professor Xavier, no doubt you will need to wish for Jean to speak with you, find out ways of getting her to open up more past this troubling time."

Here, the professor nodded. "Yes, no doubt what she as gone through troubles her so… I can only do my utmost to help her."

Charles gladly lets her father walk away, he turns to see John put her arm around his wife, before he openly showed Jean that he is like her, using telepathic abilities to speak with her. ("You see, Jean, when l was around your age, l too came to discover that I had the ability…. gifts to control people's minds. Make them think or do whatever l wanted of them… but those days are behind me… I want to teach and education whose with abilities like ours and to also teach and show the world we can live equally side-by-side with no fear or terror.")

("And where do I fit in, professor?") she asked.

("I hope that you are willing to come with me… with me back to a school I wish to start.")

"Ah, I already go to school." she said out loud this time.

"This one will be much different, as inside the walls of my school, Jean, you will be allowed to be yourself and will be taught how to best use you gifts your great abilities… Your family wish me to help you, but I hope to offer you a different more of help…"

("And what if I say no?")

("Know I will not force you… this is an open offer one you must make freely, but know that people out there.') he stopped and pointed out of the window behind her. ('will look at you very very differently because of who you are… and as I stated I wish to change all that.")

Jean looks Charles over, she closed her mind off, and as Charles saw this he chose not to read her mind. 'He seems to be a kind man… his heart could be in the right place…Who knows maybe he could be able to help me understand my gifts, as he puts them.' she thought, coming to realise that she had to go with the professor if she were to gain some benefit from these new abilities.

.

Scott, days later, was called to the office of the orphanage, he knocked on the door, Ben had help him there.

They heard the voice state. "Come in, Scott."

Scott entered the small office room there behind the desk of Ms. Morgan and before her in a wheelchair was a man with a bald head. "Er, hello Scott.' Ms. Morgan said, and then gestured to the man in the chair. 'I'd like to introduce you to, a Professor. Charles Xavier, he's here today to speak with you."

"Hello, sir." smiled Scott politely, a bandage wrapped around his head.

The man leaned for a second forward and shook the boy's hand, Ms. Morgan retakes her seat behind the desk. "I have come here today, Scott, to offer you a place at my school, as I believe I can be of help to you."

"School!" stated Scott, sounding confused and taken aback.

Ms. Morgan nodded. "Oh yes, somehow the professor knew about your issues and asked to come and see you in person."

The professor then held out a hand to Scott, in it was a small rectangle box, a glass case.

Scott obliged, and took the case from the professor's hand. He then opened the glass case and pulled out a pair of red-tinted glasses.

"Please Scott, try them on, I believe they will help take the pain away…"

Scott put the glasses on, and slowly began to open his eyes, expecting for his beams to break through the lenses, but there was nothing the lenses held it back.

.

He was truly stunned, his mouth opened wide. "No, way!" what's going on… what happened, the pain as gone!' Scott sounded truly surprised. 'Wow Professor, what are these…" he questioned, as his eyes got used to the new glasses slowly the pain just started to fade away little by little.

"A special lens of pure red ruby quartz… I had hoped they would do the job!" smiled the professor back at Scott, who still couldn't believe what had happened.

"Thank you… I can go on thanking you all day!"

"You don't mind wearing red do you, Scott?" asked Charles.

Scott shook his head. "No not at all professor… not one bit!" he exclaimed.

The professor nodded. "Now then, my boy, with someone with your abilities I truly feel can only benefit from my help and guidance at my school for the gifted."

Scott looked across quickly at the head of the orphanage and then back at Charles.

"It would mean more than a school for you, Scott, it would be a home, a true place where you can feel welcomed and safe!"

Scott stood there before Charles in silence, he truly didn't know what to say, as he was still a little suspicious.

Ms. Morgan offered her view.

Charles looked to Scott and their eyes met, a warmth came over his face. A look of true understanding, a look that somehow said he knew his pain, the struggles he's only just gone through.

And in the end, Scott agreed to his place at Xavier's school for the gifted, seeing it as a good step forward and a chance to understand himself and his abilities.

.

Charles visited the others to the mansion; Henry McCoy, Warren Worthington and Robert Drake, and has each one for themselves saw the opportunities such an institution can offer him, they had all accepted the invitation offered to them.
