Chapter II – The interview
The door opens, and Adebisi gets up from the floor. A pretty woman welcomes Adebisi. "Hello, mister, I shall be conducting your interview. Pleased to meet you." Adebisi says, "Hello—" He looks at her nametag, "—Estrella." Annoyed, she yells, "It's Astrid!"
Adebisi apologises and introduces himself. They sit down at a small, round table. Astrid opens a briefcase and puts some papers on the table. "Let's dive in, shall we? You already told me that your name is Simon Adebisi. Now, how does that make you feel?"
Adebisi looks down on the table, thinking about an incident when he first came to Oz. He was very nervous that day, and it took some time to get acquainted with his co-prisoners and the environment. When he had introduced himself to one of the elder co-prisoners, Bob Rebadow, Bob laughed, and said, "Ha, more like Adebingbong." Adebisi cried that night, and swore never to get into a situation where he could be that humiliated ever again.
The day after that, the old man sat together with Adebisi for breakfast, and said, "Son, I made a mistake yesterday. I was totally out of line. I hope you can forgive me, friend." They embraced and cried both of them. "It's okay," Adebisi said, "we were both very nervous yesterday. It's an easy mistake to make."
Adebisi looks up at Astrid and says, "Kind of mixed feelings." She writes this down, and says, "I think we have everything we need. The job is yours." Adebisi shakes her hand, and leaves the office.
He walks to the bus stop, where the bald man and he have agreed to meet. The man is already there, and he is wearing a hat. "Nice hat," Adebisi says to the man, and the man thanks him. "You have a nice hat too," he says, "should we go somewhere to eat?" Adebisi agrees, and they head to a nearby diner. Adebisi is impressed with how much food the man orders, but only orders a salad for himself.
"So how did the interview go?" the man asks Adebisi. Adebisi answers, "I got the job!" The man congratulates him, remarking, "it is as it should be." They eat the food, and the man gives Adebisi his telephone number.
Later that night, Adebisi calls the man, saying "I just wanted to say I really liked hanging out with you. It was really nice, and you are a true friend. What is your name by the way?" – "They call me September. It was nice hanging out with you too. Goodbye." The man hangs up, and Adebisi decides it is time to go to sleep. He lies down in a warm bed, dreaming sweet dreams about the young man he once met, Guybrush Threepwood.
He dreams about the time Guybrush taught him how to hold one's breath for ten minutes. The technique was simple, but hard to master. The trick to it was holding one's breath, without breathing, for ten minutes. It was so hard that Adebisi had to try twice before mastering it.
In the morning, Adebisi awakes, puts on his hat, eats some breakfast, and leaves for work. He enters the university building, knocks on the door, and enters the laboratory. Astrid is already there. She says to Adebisi, "Hi, Adebisi, your boss is waiting for you in his office."
Adebisi knocks on the door to his office, and the boss says, "come in."
