"I see." Ozpin sighs. "Return to your friends. For now it seems Battra is targeting something else. What that is I'll try to find out. You may leave." Weiss nods before doing as instructed.
"He's targeting the maidens." Sayó says.
"He is attracted to their magical energy." Mai continues.
"Then why has he left without attacking me?" Ozpin questions.
"He may be afraid of you." Sayó offers.
"Either way we must be cautious." Mei frowns. "There's no telling when he will strike."
Earth
Among the wreckage of the city being rebuilt the people watch as a golden mist rises into the air before gathering into a ball. From there a massive golden light streaks across the sky as an unforgettable set of roars sound out only for the light to disappear.
On infant islands beach Godzilla looks out in worry. Somethings being set in motion, and he didn't like it.
Remnant
A week after Battra's attack things were going back to normal. Currently Weiss sat in Grimm Studies class with Hope happily siting in her lap. "Beowolves!" The Professor, Port was a vary proud man. A little too proud most would say. He was a rather large man with gray hair and a magnificent mustache. "These feisty Grimm travel in packs. Alone they are mere prey to any competent Huntsman or Huntress, but together they make for a great challenge. As I'm sure most of you young students know their are three types of Beowolves known to exist. The first have no armor with red fangs and claws. Their fur however is thicker hence why they are usually seen in snowy environments. You know that reminds me of a time..." And so Port trailed off into a story effectively boring his class. Even still Weiss took notes afraid the man might actually put his story into the quiz on Friday. Unfortunately for Weiss his story went on till the bell rung.
With a sigh Weiss closes her notes stuffing the into her bag and picking up the now sleeping Hope. She and her team once again sat across from JNPR in the cafeteria.
"There we were in the thickest of Fog." Nora starts as she tells her tale with Hope, Yang and Pyrrha listening intently. Hope and Yang themselves hanging on to Nora's every word.
"It was smoke." Ren corrects.
"Surrounded by dragon Grimm with three heads!" Nora continues ignoring Ren's correction.
"There was one dragon." Ren corrects again.
"That breathes fire!!!" Nora shouts.
"Lightning." Ren says exasperatedly.
"In the end Ren and I took them down and made boat loads of Lien selling Dragon leather pants." Nora finishes.
Ren sighs before looking to the group. "She's been having this reoccurring dream for nearly a month now." He explains causing Hope and Yang to sag realizing the story was only a dream.
Ruby smiles seeing her friends chat but frowns noticing Jaune's depressed look. "Jaune are you okay?"
Jaune responds with the ever so intelligent 'Huh?' Before the realizing the table's attention was on him. "Oh, yeah I'm fine."
"Jaune?" Pyrrha starts. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah because you look a little not fine." Ruby states.
"Guys I'm fine seriously. Look." He puts on an obviously fake smile with a thumbs up only to frown upon hearing A student named Cardin laugh. Everyone at the table looked over to see Cardin and his team picking on the Faunus girl with bunny ears named Velvet.
"Jaune, Cardin's been picking on you since day one." Pyrrha explains
"He's a bully." Ruby scowls.
Weiss frowns at the actions Cardin was committing to Velvet. Had I followed my father's views I would've turned out like that. The thought scared her. Blake caught her look and put a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"Your not like your father." She whispers. Weiss smiles a bit at the statement.
"Thanks." Weiss whispers back earning a smile and nod. The moment was stopped however by a shout of pain.
"Ow that hurt!" Velvet says drawing the tables attention.
Cardin laughs pulling on Velvets bunny ears. "See I told you they were real." He boasts.
"Atrocious." Pyrrha growls. "I can't stand people like him."
Weiss scowls at the bully before an idea comes to mind. The table watches as a glyph appears under Cardin. In his confusion he let's go of Velvets bunny ears. In the next moment he is frozen in ice causing the cafeteria to laugh, Velvet included.
The table looks to Weiss who smirks placing an empty vile of what was Ice Dust. Weiss then noticed he looks everyone at the table we're giving her. "What? I just gave him a cold shoulder." She smirks. Yang laughs offering Weiss a high five to which she takes.
Ruby groans. "Please no. We do not need a second Yang."
Pyrrha giggles. "I think it was grand."
"He definitely deserved it." Blake smiles.
"That, was, perfect!" Nora shouts. "All hail the Ice Queen!" Everyone laughs at that.
Later that day Weiss sat in History class as her teacher Doctor Oobleck sped around the class. "Yes! Yes," He says. "Prior to the Faunus Rights Revolution more popularly known as the Faunus War..." He then zooms up to the front of the class and the map covered in papers behind his desk. "Humankind was quite, quite adamant about centralizing Faunus population in Menagerie." He then points at the map of a lone island with his stick, then zooms off to the side for a sip of his coffee before appearing in front of the desk. "Now! While this must feel like ancient history to many of you, it is imperative to remember that these are relatively recent events! Why, the repercussions of the uprising can still be seen to this day!" He then zooms around the classroom more, sipping his coffee again before continuing to zoom and talk. "Now! Have any among you been subjugated or discriminated because of your Faunus heritage?"
Velvet raises her hand along with several others causing Weiss to frown. Thankfully Hope hadn't had to experience any of that so far.
"Dreadful, simply dreadful. It's this kind of ignorance that breeds violence! I mean, I mean just look at the White Fang!" He then zooms around some more sipping his coffee again. Weiss was beginning to wonder how the man didn't burn out from pure energy. "Now which of you young scholars can tell me what many theorize to be the turning point in the third year of the War?" Weiss began to raise her hand only to be beat by Blake. "Yes."
"It was the Battle At Fort Castle." She answers.
"Precisely!" Oobleck smiles. "And, who can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagune's forces?"
Unseen by Oobleck Cardin throws a paper ball at Jaune's head waking him, and causing him to sit up slightly raising his hand. Oobleck say Jaune's hand and made an assumption.
"Mr. Arc!" Oobleck says In excitement. "Finally contributing to class! This is excellent! Excellent! What is the answer?"
"Uhhhh... The answer..." Jaune struggles trying to remember the question. "The advantage... that the Faunus..." He looks behind Oobleck's focused face to Pyrrha, who coughs and motions to her lips as she gives him the answer which he couldn't read. "...had over that guy's stuff..." He then sees Pyrrha cup her hands around her eyes. His mind immediately went to Binoculars.
"Night Vision." A familiar child's voice says. Jaune looks to see Hope nod.
"Uhh... Night... vision? Sir?" Jaune says.
Ooblecks eyes widened in pride and surprise. "Excellent! Purely Excellent Mr. Arc. A little slow on giving the answer but one can't argue with results!" Oobleck praises. "Yes the Faunus had the advantage of Night Vision as many Faunus have nearly perfect sight in the dark." Jaune mouths out a thank you to Hope and Pyrrha who both smile back the latter not knowing of Hopes involvement. Cardin however scowls knowing his plan to humiliate Jaune failed.
After class Pyrrha and Weiss chat for a bit while Hope just smiles listening to the conversation. After a moment Jaune comes out getting pushed to the ground by Cardin who laughs walking away. Weiss scowls as Pyrrha helps Jaune up.
"Are you okay?" Pyrrha asks.
"I'm fine." He groans.
"You know," Weiss starts "I'm really considering freezing him again."
"I could help." Pyrrha smiles.
"Guys please. I'm fine." Jaune assures. "More importantly," He turns to Weiss. "Did you know Hope has Telepathy?"
"What?" Weiss frowns.
"Telepathy. She told me the answer to the night vision question with her mind in class." Jaune explains. "I saw Pyrrha trying to help, but I almost stupidly said Binoculars. Sorry Pyrrha."
"It's fine." Pyrrha sighs. "I suppose cupping my hands would look like binoculars."
Weiss looks to her daughter in confusion. "Hope?" Hope simply smiles sheepishly while holding her hands behind her back. Weiss sighs. "Let's add that to the list of things to research."
"Research?" Pyrrha questions.
"Yes, due to Hope's... unique situation I have to research things in order to help parent her." Weiss explains.
Pyrrha smiles. "That's the sign of a good parent." She praises.
Weiss blushes to the compliment. "Thanks. I'm doing my best."
Jaune pats her shoulder. "Hey, at least you are trying. Some people don't even get that. If you ever need help I'm sure my team would be willing." Pyrrha nods in agreement.
Weiss chuckles. "Thanks." Her mind then travels to something else. "Speaking of help. Do you need help with your fighting? You seem to struggle in combat class."
Jaune cringes at the statement. "Uh, well..."
"Jaune, it's alright if you do." Pyrrha smiles. "If you want," Pyrrha looks to Weiss who nods. "Maybe we could help. I use a sword and shield."
"And I'm an expert in dust." Weiss says as if finishing Pyrrha's sentence.
"Together we might be able to get you to be as good if not better than us." Pyrrha explains.
"But,"
"No buts." Weiss glares. "Any Huntsman or Huntress started somewhere. I was taught by my sister."
"And I was taught by my father." Pyrrha adds seeing where Weiss was going.
"You can't do this." Weiss says harshly. "Not on your own. I'm not gonna just sit and watch a friend get eaten alive because he was too stubborn to get help."
"Jaune you got into Beacon." Pyrrha praises. "That speaks volumes of what your capable of!" Weiss smirks nodding in agreement.
Jaune sighs looking down. "Your wrong. I don't belong here."
"Of corse you do!" Weiss scowls.
"Yeah!" Pyrrha agrees.
Jaune clenches his fists. "No I don't!" The tone made Weiss, Hope, and Pyrrha back up. "I wasn't really accepted into Beacon. I didn't pass any tests!" He rants. "I got my hands on some fake transcripts and I lied."
"What, but?" Pyrrha was speechless. Weiss could only look at the man in shock before her vision was obstructed by light.
"Jaune Arc huh?" That was Ozpin's voice. "These transcripts were falsified. Though his dedicated is vary apparent if the interview was anything to go by. I suppose I could give him a chance."
With that Weiss' vision came back looking over she could see Hope holding her head in pain before looking up with a smile. Weiss sighs. "Jaune do you really think the headmaster wouldn't know?"
Jaune was taken aback by the question. "I believe he took a chance on you Jaune. Do you want to waste it? Or do you want to get all that macho man stuff out of your head, and accept help when it's offered."
Pyrrha was surprised, but smiles nonetheless. Jaune was at a loss for words. Was she right? Did he really know? Did he take a chance? Jaune sighs. "I'm sorry."
"Jaune." Pyrrha says softly. "Everyone needs help from time to time."
"I know, I just." He sighs. "I'm tired of being the lovable idiot stuck in a tree while his friends fight for their lives." He explains. "I just want to be a hero."
Pyrrha pulls him into a hug. "Jaune it's alright. No one is born a hero. Their made." She breaks away with a smile.
"We can meet on the rooftop after classes." Weiss explains. "Pyrrha and you can practice with your sword and shield skills while I put Hope to bed. After that I can help teach you the basics on how to use dust."
Pyrrha smiles looking to Jaune. "What do you say Jaune?"
Jaune thinks for a moment. "Alright. Let's do it. Sorry for the whole... macho... stuff."
Weiss smirks. "Let's get started."
Off into dark lands filled with red crystals and pools of darkness. At the heart of these Grimm infested lands stands a castle from which a woman with blank white skin scowls. She looks upon the lands only to notice a glimmer of golden light flash in the sky. A look of interest comes upon her face at the sight. Her red eyes with black sclera glow in response to her excitement.
The light then turned to fly toward her. "Let's see what you are." She smiles devilishly.
The woman with skin as white as bone watches as a golden light approaches. Soon the light enters her castle landing right in front of her. As the dust settles she can see the curled up form of a little golden three headed dragon. The woman, Salem approaches in curiosity picking up the tiny destroyer. Upon her touch the Golden Terror cry's out as A black energy surrounds the creature while Salem smiles.
She gasps as she glimpses at the creatures mind, memories of battles and destruction. Upon the end of the visions Salem's chuckles. "Well, well, well. I am most certainly happy you would land at my doorstep." She smiles. "Your being a man however still leaves me the trouble of finding a host for the maidens power though." An idea then comes to Salem's mind. "Hmm, lets see if this works." Salem casts a beam of black magical energy into the dragon. It's golden scales blacken as bony armor erupts covering vital parts of the beast it's already red eyes begin to glow brighter. Soon the beast begins to split at each head as the beings body shifts.
After a moment the dragon like roars begin to be replaced with the cry's of three human infants. The body's grow as the cry's stop, and with a look of pure sadistic joy Salem chuckles knowing her idea had become a reality. Once she was finished Salem wrapped her cloak around the three children she had created. Each with blank white skin, glowing red eyes with black Sclera, and red glowing veins. The one on the far left had wings and short white hair, and the one on the right had a long split Grimm like tail. Both of these children were clearly male. The one in the middle however had long elbow length hair and two dragon like horns, but most surprisingly it was a girl. Salem smiles with pure glee. It had worked.
The trio of children soon opened their glowing red eyes to see Salem's now soft smile. "Hello little ones. Everything is alright. Mother is here."
Miles away at the top of Beacon Tower, Ozpin's Office, Ozpin himself looked out with an uneasy feeling. He soon found Ironwood standing next to him. "Oz?" He questions. "What's wrong?"
"Something has happened." Ozpin says. "Something more than Amber's waking."
Said person was in the room sitting in a wheelchair. Amber. She was dressed in a simple bronze t-shirt with jeans. "Professor?" Amber asks in worry.
Ozpin sighs. "I'm sorry Amber." He says. "I'm glad you are recovering, but you need to stay here at Beacon for the time being."
"But, Salem, her people hunted me. Once they..."
"They are dead." Ozpin says.
"What?" Amber asks unsure if she had heard him correctly.
"A beast named Battra killed them a little while ago." Ozpin explains. "The weapons found and the DNA from the hand proved this when compared to your description of the attackers."
"But if that's true then why keep me here?" Amber questions upset that she was going to be stuck at Beacon.
"Because Battra is hunting Maidens!" Ironwood shouts. Amber cowers slightly at his tone. "I'm sorry. After recent events I'm a little on edge."
"It's okay." Amber states.
"James have your people been able to track its location?" Ozpin asks.
Ironwood sighs. "Yes. It's heading for Mistral as far as we can tell."
"Then it's likely after Spring. Let's just hope they can escape." Ozpin states. "Perhaps then we'll be able to find them after all this time."
In a run down apartment near downtown Vale Roman Torchwick tends to an injured Mercury with Neo helping. Mercury grunts in pain. While Mercury's injuries were mostly healed the still hurt like nothing else.
"Why are you doing this for me." Mercury grunts.
"Kid, listen. I'll be strait with you." Roman starts. "I don't think any kid even you deserves to go out like your 'friends' did. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't exactly Cinders biggest fan but whatever that 'thing' was obviously had something against her. You on the other hand remind me a lot of myself from back in the day. So you have three options. One you accept the help I'm giving and we part ways like we never met, two you join up with Neo and I, or option number three you try to fight us and we kill you. So! What will it be."
Mercury thinks for a moment. "Let's say I joined. What would I get out of it?"
Roman smirks. "Smart man, asking the right questions. If, and I say IF we work together well, we might just be able to pull of some pretty high paying jobs. Split evenly three ways."
Mercury smirks back liking the idea. "Well Roman. I guess I could stick around." He says holding out his good hand which Roman shakes.
"Welcome to the team kid."
The next night Weiss watches as Jaune struggles to use the dust properly. After their discussion Weiss and Pyrrha helped Jaune modify his weapon to be able to use dust cartridges much like shotgun shells. As it was Jaune wasn't the worst, but he had a long way to go.
"Your swinging the blade too much." Weiss says. "You only need one good swing with your sword. Try again."
Jaune sighs. He then ready's himself and swings the blade in a horizontal slash while hitting the button to use the dust. Almost perfectly fire dust covered the blade in a blazing fire. After the swing the fire dissipated.
Pyrrha and Weiss clap in congratulations. "Nice work." Weiss praises.
"Thanks." Jaune blushes.
Weiss then looks to Pyrrha. "Aura?"
"Aura." Pyrrha agrees.
Jaune sighs. "Great." He says unenthusiastically causing Weiss and Pyrrha to chuckle. He absolutely hated practicing with his aura. No matter how much he tried he couldn't unlock his semblance. "Can we, you know skip aura tonight?"
"Nope." Weiss smirks. Pyrrha laughs lightly with Weiss' words.
Great. Jaune thought. Just great.
