Slowly ascending my way up, I eventually reach the sixth floor where Petrel is waiting for me. "Ah. There you are. I thought you'd never come." Petrel comments.
"Yeah well, I had some traffic," I reply. "Anyway, what seems to be the problem?"
"Right, 3 of our guys are trapped on the top floor. We're trying to figure a way to rescue them." Petrel points his finger upward.
"But the stair is right there." I point toward the ascending steps. "Why can't you just take that?"
"Go ahead and try it. You'll see what I mean." Petrel gestures for me to go forward.
I proceed to march toward the set of stairs, but then something invisible prevents me from going forward. "What the-"
"Begone... Intruders..." Suddenly, a mysterious force pushes me back, causing me to land on my head.
"Ow... yeah, I think I see the problem now." I rub the back of my head, easing the pain for a bit. "What the hell was that anyway?"
"Here." Petrel hands something toward me. It looks like some kind of binoculars with a camera attaches to it. "That's a Silph Scope. Use it to look at the thing that pushes you."
I take the device from Petrel and put it between my eyes. Looking through the lenses, I notice a transparent figure floating above the stair to the final floor. The figure has a skull for its head where and a body that resembles the reptilian look of Dragonite. In its right hand, is a large-looking club made out of bone. "Is that...?" I ask, just to be sure.
"A Marowak," Petrel confirms it. "For whatever reason, it refuses to let anyone near the top floor. I assume those 3 idiots that stuck up there have something to do with this."
"Then why am I here exactly?" I mean- What can I even do to a ghost. An actual ghost I meant.
"You're going to try talking to it," Petrel states calmly.
"...what?" I look at him. "You lost me there, Pret."
"The executives noticed how you and Nidoking often converse with each other, so we assume that you can talk to a pokemon." Petrel shrug. "Honestly, I think it was a load of bullcrap. But their decision, not mine."
"Aren't you a part of the executives!?" I raise my voice, almost shouting at him.
"Oops. You caught me red hands." Petrel puts his hand up in defense. "Still, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try."
"Okay. First of all, I can't communicate with pokemon. I just assume what they said." I explain. "Second of all-"
*BEEP BEEP* A sound of vibration is coming from my pocket. I then pick up my Porygon phone to see that it was Proton calling. "Huh. Sorry, I have to take this."
*CLICK* "...Gade! is Petrel there with you?!" Proton sounds desperate through the phone.
"Um... yeah. Here, let me put it on speaker for you." I tap on a speaker button, letting Petrel hears Proton.
"Hey, Prot. What is this all about?" Petrel asks.
"Someone is invading the Hideout!" wait what? "I need you to get here ASAP!" *CLICK*
"Shit must be serious. Come on, Gade! Let's move!" Petrel gestures for me to follow him.
"Um... about that. I don't think I'm gonna must use to you." I explain myself.
"Nonsense! You're more capable than any normal grunt I've ever met!"
"No- I mean like my pokemon is out of commission. I'm literally useless."
"...Oh."
"...Yeah."
"Well, in that case, you take care of the ghost situation while I will take care of the Hideout," Petrel suggests.
"Sound good to me." I shrug.
"Great. Here take this." Petrel tosses a Silph Scope toward me. "I'll be back soon!" and just like that, he Teleports away with his Alakazam.
Honestly, I just want an excuse to slack off.
Sitting and smoking a cigarette while playing on my Porygon phone, I waste some more time by talking with the ghost of Marowak. "So how's your day?"
The ghost seems to ignore me. "Fine, just don't talk. Not like you're that interesting anyway"
*THUMP*
Hmm? What was that noise?
I decide to get up and go over to investigate. Looking around, I spot a large bone club laying on the ground. "What's this doing here?" I pick it up, inspecting the item.
"Cu!" Hmm?
I look over to the source of that noise and see a tiny reptilian pokemon, wearing a skull on its head. "Well, hey there little guy. What's a cute lil Cubone like you doing here?"
"Cu! Cubone!" Cubone snarls at me, looking upset about something.
"Oh, you must've wanted this back then." I point at the bone I hold in my right hand. "Well, here you go."
Throwing it forward, Cubone quickly rushes over to pick it up before running away. "...what a weird pokemon."
More time has passed and I notice how the little Cubone keeps coming back to the same spot over and over again. But every time I try to approach the small pokemon, it immediately runs away the moment it sees me.
Eventually, I got tired of playing with my Porygon phone and move over to the spot where Cubone keeps coming back, waiting for the tiny pokemon to come out. "Look, I know you're here somewhere. If you want to come over then stop hiding. I'm not going to bite you."
Finally, Cubone reveals itself, still remains cautious of me. "See? Like I said. Completely harmless." I raise both of my hands up, showing the pokemon that I have no ill intent."
Cubone lets itself relax for a bit before scooting closer, almost next to me. "Cu!" Cubone then points something at my face.
"Oh, you're curious about the cigarette?" I pull out the stick from my mouth, and Cubone nods in response. "Well, why don't you try some for yourself?" I give Cubone one of my sticks from the pack of cigarettes before lighting it up.
Cubone takes the stick from my hand and tries to mimic how I smoke before the pokemon violently cough it out. "Take it easy. Let the smoke cools down first before inhaling."
Listening to my advice, Cubone eventually manage to smoke the cigarette without coughing, followed by blowing out the steam of clouds. "Better? It helps relieve tension"
"Cu!" Cubone nods.
Both Cubone and I would then enjoy our time smoking until it burns out, to which Cubone asks for another stick from me.
Suddenly, I feel a cold presence next to me. Turning around, I notice that there's actually nothing there except for the little Cubone. And yet I can still feel the presence right above the bone pokemon.
Taking out my Silph Scope, I look through the lenses to see that it was the ghost of Marowak, patting Cubone's head.
I instantly make a connection that this Marowak is actually Cubone's father... or a mother. Either way, it probably died trying to protect its baby. "If it makes you feel any better, I'll make sure that no one is going to hurt him from now on."
The ghost of Marowak looks surprised, not expecting a word from me while Cubone here is looking confused. "I'm just saying... that I understand your pain. After all, I can relate."
The ghost of Marowak stares at me, seemingly not believing my word. Eventually, it morphs itself into a ball of flame before integrating with Cubone's Club. I guess that's one way of watching over your child.
"Hey, Cubone."
"Cu?"
"Would you like to become my pokemon?"
"Of course, you would get yourself a new pokemon." Proton heavily sighs through the phone. "At least you managed to get those 3 idiots out. I'll make sure that they get their proper punishment."
"Thanks, Prot. You did me a big favor."
"Don't call me that. Only Petrel are allowed to call me by my nickname."
"Didn't I see Ariana on the other day call you little-"
"Shush! Fine, you can call me that. I'm on speaker here!"
"Heh. Blackmail."
"Whatever," *CLICK*
"Cu?" Cubone looks at me curiously. The newest addition to the team is tugging my pants.
"Alright alright." I pick up Cubone and place him on my right shoulder. "Better?"
"Cu!" Cubone raises his club wildly, pretending to be some kind of adventure on the journey. Heh, adorable.
*BEEP BEEP*
Huh, that's new. This one is from Archer. *CLICK* "Hello?"
"Gade. Just the person that I want to talk to."
"How did you get my number?"
"I just politely ask Proton for it." Yeah, I really doubt that. "Anyway, the boss has a new mission for us."
"Again? What is it with you and your missi- ...wait, did you just say "us"?"
I could almost hear a snicker from the other side before Archer responds, "Have you ever heard of Silph Co.?"
