Due to the way the attack on Avalor's palace ended, the villains had no choice but to flee. Which wouldn't have been possible had it not been for Fiero, who had recovered enough to reach the palace and save them all.
After a while of flying, they finally reached the cave that acted as their base.
"Why did you have to intervene? I was almost done with them!" exclaimed Shuriki angrily for running away.
"I doubt that very much. You used the scepter too much. You had almost no energy left. If I hadn't shown up, you would have all ended up in the dungeons." said Fiero.
"It wasn't my fault! I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for that strange meddling creature!" said Shuriki thinking furiously of the longneck that foiled her plans.
"Wait, by any chance was that creature small and could talk?" asked Cruz.
"What's with that question?" asked Shuriki.
"We ran into something similar. Because of that flying critter, they beat us up." said Vesta.
"The same thing happened to us too. The princess's friends beat us because they had those creatures with them." said Victor.
"Great. So now what? Even if we attack them again, they outnumber us now that they have those nasty creatures with them. It's not fair." said Carla crossing her arms.
Shuriki wouldn't admit it, but she was right. When they decided to attack the palace, they were prepared for the scepter of light of the crown princess, the royal wizard, the jaquins and their other friends, but they weren't prepared for the sudden appearance of some unknown creatures that could talk. Perhaps if they had greater numbers they could handle them.
It was then that a thought crossed her mind. There was an old saying that the best way to fight fire was to use fire as well. Therefore, if Elena had those creatures...
"I think I have an idea." said Shuriki with a smile and drawing everyone's attention. "If Elena has her own creatures, we should have them too."
"Oh, I like that idea." said Carla.
"It certainly sounds good, but there's one little problem. We don't know where they're from or what they really are." said Victor.
"He's right. I may not know exactly everything about Valestrella, but I've never in my life seen or heard of anything like those creatures." said Cruz.
"Same here." said Vesta.
"Mmm." muttered Fiero with his arms crossed and hand on his chin, thinking of a solution. "I may be on to something." began Fiero getting the attention of the others. "I happen to know the location of an ancient workshop of the maruvians where they made their weapons."
"How come you never told us about that place or took us to it?" asked Shuriki interested in the information.
"Because that site is protected by a spell that keeps it hidden and impenetrable. You can only access that site one day every 20 years and that day happens to be tomorrow." said Fiero.
"And what good will that place do us precisely?" asked Victor.
"If we get a sample of one of those creatures like a piece of skin or a tooth, combining it with the magic of that workshop, as well as our own..." began Fiero.
"We would have, that way, our own creature. I like the sound of that." said Shuriki.
"But how will we get that sample?" asked Cruz.
"Yeah, I highly doubt they'll give it to us the easy way." said Vesta.
"Uh... Could this be useful?" asked Carla as she reached into her malvago robe and pulled out a pink feather from it. "It fell out of that creature that kicked me in the face and must have gotten into my tunic."
Fiero took the feather and began to examine it closely.
"This will do." said Fiero.
"Good. Then let's get going." said Shuriki.
Meanwhile, in Avalor, things were returning to normal after the failed attack of Shuriki and her allies.
Elena may have been angry at first with the gang, as she asked them to stay back in case they came to harm, but in the end, she was happy that they disobeyed her, for if it weren't for them, they wouldn't have defeated the villains.
The same couldn't be said for her grandparents, though.
"I can't believe you threw yourselves into battle without thinking. Is it that you're not worried about what might happen to you?" asked Louise.
"She's right. What you did was a very reckless and dangerous thing to do. You could have come out unscathed." said Francisco.
Apparently, the two grandparents were scolding the gang like two concerned parents, with Elena and Isabel on either side of the little dinosaurs.
"Please don't be so hard on them." said Elena defending her friends.
"It may be true that they threw themselves into a dangerous situation, but if it hadn't been for them, Elena and the others wouldn't have made Shuriki run away." said Isabel.
"Well, put it that way, they're right." said Francisco.
"I guess so, but we'd better be more careful next time." said Luisa.
"Yes, ma'am." said the gang in unison.
"And one more thing." said Luisa in a very serious tone before a smile formed on her face. "Thank you for helping my granddaughter."
"It is true. You may be small and young, but you certainly have a big heart." said Francisco.
"Thank you. It's just that we couldn't leave our friends alone." said Littlefoot.
"Yep, yep, yep. When one of us is in trouble, we will come to their aid even if they don't need it." said Ducky.
"That's our everyday life." said Cera.
Just then, Mateo entered the room.
"Princess Elena! I have great news!" announced Mateo with joy.
"What is it?" asked Elena curiously.
"I've found it! I've found information about the totem that brought the kids to our world!" announced Mateo showing a book in his hand.
Needless to say, that surprised everyone present.
"Really?" asked Chomper in surprise.
"What did you find out?" asked Isabel.
"Apparently it was a very old artifact created by the maruvians." began Mateo.
"I've heard that before, but I didn't know what they were. What are the maruvians?" asked Ruby.
"They are an ancient civilization that inhabited this area before Avalor was formed. In fact, they were the ones who created the scepter of light and night." said Elena.
"But why they create totem too?" asked Petrie.
"It turns out that there was a group of maruvians dedicated to exploring, not only our world, but others as well, and to do so they built a totem that transported them to another world." recounted Mateo.
"That have to mean, ours." said Littlefoot.
"Exactly." said Mateo.
"Does that mean we can go back to our world?" asked Chomper with a smile.
"That's right." said Mateo to the delight of the gang and those present.
"Do you know where that totem is?" asked Elena.
"According to the book, it's in some ancient maruvian ruins hidden in a mountain half a day from here." replied Mateo.
"Well, it's getting pretty late now. How about we wait until tomorrow to go?" asked Elena to the gang.
"Well, now that we know how to get back. There's no rush." said Cera.
"I wouldn't mind spending another day here. No, no, no." said Ducky as Spike nodded in agreement.
"We want to go back to our world, but we're not in a big hurry to go back to our world, so we can wait until tomorrow to go back to our world." said Ruby.
"Then it is decided. Tomorrow we will leave for the ruins to return you to your world." said Elena.
"Can I come with you?" asked Isabel, surprising her family.
"Are you sure, Isabel?" asked Elena.
"I am. Not only do I want to say goodbye to them, but I also need something for a history paper for class." said Isabel.
"Well, I don't think anything will happen." said Elena with a shrug. "It's okay, you can come."
Even though they were going to have to say goodbye, the gang was going to make sure they enjoyed the time they had left in that world with their new friends.
The sun had already risen when, a long way from Avalor, Shuriki's group had reached the foot of a mountain, looking for the supposed workshop the elder malvago spoke of.
"Are you sure this is it?" asked Victor.
"Quite sure. Here is the workshop." said Fiero.
"For your sake, it had better be." said Shuriki.
"Oh, don't worry." began Fiero before pushing aside some vines to reveal a rocky wall. "This is it."
Just as he said that, strange symbols appeared briefly and shortly after they vanished, the earth shook a bit before a part of the mountain slid aside, revealing a secret passageway.
"Looks like you were right." said Shuriki with a smile, as she could feel her plan successfully realized.
"We'd better hurry. I wouldn't want to be inside when the door closes." said Fiero as he and the others entered the passageway, though the two bad jaquins stayed behind to keep watch.
They went down a couple of stairs which they lit with a torch they picked up along the way and finally, they reached the top of the stairs, where they could see the workshop. The room itself was quite large. There were two wall sections filled with various weapons. There were also shelves with various books and various materials. In the center of the workshop was a well filled with water.
"Mmm. I wonder what those weapons will do." said Carla reaching out to grab one of the weapons from the workshop, but Fiero slapped her hand to stop her.
"Be very careful. We don't know what those things can do." said Fiero warningly.
"Besides, as much as those weapons catch my eye, that's not why we came here. But for this." said Shuriki pulling out Ruby's feather.
"Okay, we're in the workshop and we've got the essentials, now what?" asked Victor.
"Simple. Just throw the feather into the well along with a pinch of magic from the scepter of night. That should give it more power." said Fiero.
"That's more like it." said Shuriki before casting the feather into the well, sinking into the infinite depth before pointing the well with her scepter.
As she concentrated, the gem in the scepter began to cast a sort of glowing powder that entered the water of the well. That caused the water to begin to glow dark purple before bubbling, forcing Shuriki and the others to back away.
"Uh... Is that supposed to happen?" asked Carla nervously and a bit fearfully.
Suddenly, there was an explosion, splashing water everywhere.
The villains kept their eyes on the well, waiting to know the outcome of the event. For a few seconds, nothing happened, but then, a black claw came out of the well and grabbed the edge.
Soon after, out of the well came a creature never before seen by humans.
He walked on all fours, although his front legs resembled hands with membranes between the toes. He possessed a long mouth with sharp teeth and running down his back and tail were sail-like spines.
The creature stirred to shake off the water before turning his gaze to the villains.
Victor and Carla looked at him with fear, Fiero with surprise, but Shuriki, despite being equally surprised, looked serious, as she wanted to check one thing.
She took a couple of steps towards the creature that growled in response. Then, Shuriki pointed the scepter at it.
"Sit down." said Shuriki.
A few seconds later, the creature obeyed and sat down.
"The paw." said Shuriki extending a hand.
The creature lifted a hand and placed it carefully near Shuriki's, who let out a smile seeing the result of the experiment.
"Good boy." said Shuriki.
"I can't believe it. It worked." said Fiero with surprise.
"Yes. Now we have our own creature and he's much better than the ones the princess has." said Victor. "But what should we call it?"
"I know. What if we call him Deinonycanis?" asked Carla getting everyone's attention.
"Where did you get that ridiculous name?" asked Fiero.
"I don't know. It just came to me right away." said Carla with a shrug.
"I actually like the sound of it." said Shuriki before turning to the newly christened creature. "You will be called Deinonycanis and you will do everything I tell you to do. understood?" asked Shuriki.
The Deinonycanis responded to that by bowing his head in obedience and Shuriki stroked his snout in response.
"That's the way I like it." said Shuriki.
"Shuriki!" shouted Cruz from a distance and drawing the attention of the others.
"What's happening now?" asked Shuriki.
"During an aerial reconnaissance, we spotted the princess and her friends, as well as those creatures going somewhere." said Vesta from outside the workshop.
"Well, well, well. That looks like a perfect test to try out our new recruit." said Shuriki before turning to the Deinonycanis. "Tell me, are you hungry?" asked Shuriki with a sinister smile, receiving a slight snarl from the Deinonycanis. "I'll take that as a 'yes'."
After a short farewell from the grandparents, the group, consisting of the gang, Elena, Isabel, Mateo, Gabriel, Naomi and the good jaquins, set off for the ruins, with the humans riding along on horseback while the gang ran alongside and the jaquins flying upwards.
Finally, after much running, they finally reached the edge of a mountain.
"Are we there yet?" asked Ducky.
"Yes. Here is the entrance to the maruvian ruins." said Mateo.
"Well, you must be blind, because I can't see anything." said Cera.
"Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it's not there." said Naomi.
"She's right. It's like air, we know it's there even though we can't see if it's there." said Ruby.
"But Cera is right. There doesn't seem to be any entrance in sight." said Gabriel.
"That I can fix." said Elena pulling out her scepter and standing in front of everyone. "Glow!" shouted Elena making her scepter glow slightly, but what caught everyone's attention were some strange symbols on the wall in the shape of an arch.
"Wow. Impressive, Elena." said Littlefoot.
"Thank you." said Elena.
"What those?" asked Petrie.
"They're maruvian texts. They probably hid the ruins with a spell to ward off tomb raiders or something." said Mateo.
"But we can't read." said Chomper.
"Luckily, I brought a translation notebook. You never know when something like that might happen." said Isabel.
"Looks like we were right to bring you with us." said Elena.
"Let's see..." began Isabel translating the maruvian text. "It says that if you are someone with a pure heart, with just the right words, the path will open before you." said Isabel before Elena stopped using her scepter to show the text.
"What does that mean?" asked Cera.
"I think it means that we have to use the right word to open the door." said Mateo.
"And what would the right word be? Please?" asked Littlefoot.
Suddenly, the earth began to shake, startling the group.
"Earthshake?" asked Petrie.
"No, it's not. Look!" exclaimed Naomi pointing straight ahead.
They were all shocked when they saw the wall split in two, revealing a secret passageway.
"Looks like Littlefoot found the right word. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky.
"But it also shows that he is pure of heart." said Isabel.
"That I didn't doubt for a moment." said Elena smiling at the longneck and patting his head.
The group passed through the entrance and all gasped as they saw before them the ruins of an ancient civilization that had deteriorated over the years. The chamber where the ruins were located was huge and illuminated thanks to several holes in the roof that let in sunlight.
"Unbelievable. Even though I've seen Avalor before, but I've never seen anything as amazing as this." said Ruby.
"And do the maruvians live here?" asked Cera.
"They lived, more like it." said Gabriel.
"Can you imagine the history this place will have?" asked Mateo.
"As much as I like the idea of studying history, we came here for a reason." said Elena.
"That's right. We have to look for the totem that will take us to our world." said Littlefoot.
"But this place is huge. It would take us a long time to find it." said Chomper.
"Don't worry, Chomper. We just have to split up and the team that finds it will alert the others." said Naomi.
"Good idea. Let's get going then." said Elena.
"Oh, you were just leaving?" asked a voice that made everyone freeze before they turned around to see, right at the entrance, Shuriki and her allies. "But we had just arrived." said Shuriki with a smile.
"Shuriki!" exclaimed Elena in surprise before she and the others prepared for a fight. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, I was just passing by and when I heard you were here too, I decided to pay a little visit." said Shuriki.
"Whatever you're going to do, we won't let you get away with it." said Littlefoot.
"Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you. In fact, I've brought you a new friend to play with." said Shuriki.
"What?" asked the human-dinosaur group in unison.
It was then, when footsteps were heard from behind Shuriki's group. The eyes of the human-dinosaur group widened in horror as they beheld the Deinonycanis.
Thousands of questions were rising in their minds. What was he? Was he a dinosaur? Where did he come from? How did Shuriki get him? Unfortunately, that wasn't the time to ask those questions.
"Oh, and I warn you. He's hungry." said Shuriki before the Deinonycanis let out a roar that could be heard all over the place.
