Twilight Sparkle was the Princess of Friendship, who had her own castle. She was one of the most heroic and powerful ponies, in all of Equestria. As to be expected, Twilight had a lot of friends, including Spike, her dragon assistant and Starlight Glimmer, her pupil. However, her closest friends were a group of ponies, that she met in Ponyville. Their names were Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity and Pinkie Pie.

One day, Twilight Sparkle was in her kingdom and was working on her royal duties, while in her library. Twilight loved books. Her library was filled with books, that helped her, when it came to her work. Twilight usually didn't want anybody to bother her, while she was working. However, Spike burst into the room. Twilight put down her work and looked at Spike, while asking, "What's going on?"

Spike sighed and said, "Princess Celestia's here."

Twilight Sparkle had an excited grin on her face, while saying, "Princess Celestia's here? This is such a wonderful surprise." She started feeling nervous, because she liked to properly prepare for Celestia's visits. She said, "I'm not ready. I didn't know that Celestia was coming. I'll have to comb my mane, pick out a dress, clean the library and decorate the kingdom."

Spike was tired of Twilight's worrying, so he started pushing her out of the library, while saying, "Just greet Celestia. You don't need any of that fancy stuff. Just be yourself."

Twilight Sparkle shyly asked, "But what if my true self isn't good enough, for Princess Celestia?"

Spike pushed Twilight, who landed into the lobby. Celestia helped Twilight get up, while saying, "Your true self is always a treat, Twilight."

Twilight Sparkle, replied, "Thank you, your majesty. I'm honored."

Celestia said, "Twilight, I have something that I want to discuss with you."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "Okay, your highness."

Twilight Sparkle led Celestia, to her meeting room. After they got inside, Twilight closed the door, while thinking about what Celestia would want to tell her. Since Twilight thought so highly of Celestia, she always wanted Celestia to have a positive opinion about her. She desperately hoped, that Celestia wasn't disappointed in her.

Celestia looked at Twilight's face and noticed she was feeling fear. She calmly said, "There's no reason to be afraid, Twilight. I have good news."

Twilight asked, "Really?"

Celestia said, "Yes, I have been really pleased, with how you've been running your castle."

Twilight bowed to Celestia and replied, "I'm incredibly honored, to hear you say that. I'll continue, to work hard. In fact, I'll start working harder, from now on."

Celestia responded, "I figured you'd say that which is why I've come here. Twilight, a hard-working ruler, such as yourself, is not easy to come by. However, it's important, to not work past your limits. If you keep working, without a break, you'll snap. That's why I've come to give you something, that I think will take your mind off things."

Celestia used her magical horn, to teleport some tickets to Twilight Sparkle. Twilight read the tickets and started getting excited. The tickets were to the world-premier, of the newest Starswirl book. Twilight was a huge fan of books and books, that centered around Starswirl, were some of her favorites. Starswirl was a wizard, who was highly-intelligent and had a big beard. Ponyville's library was the first city, in all of Equestria, to get copies of the new book. Twilight was going to get to see the book, on opening book and she had tickets, so she could invite some of her friends. Twilight said, "Thank you, Celestia. This is an amazing gesture."

Celestia smiled, while replying, "You're welcome, Twilight."

Twilight Sparkle asked, "Will you be attending the book show?"

Celestia explained, "I'm afraid I have other duties, that I have to take care of."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "I understand."

Celestia said, "I have something scheduled, that's coming up, so I'll have to get going."

Twilight Sparkle gave Celestia a hug and said, "Thank you, for the tickets."

Celestia replied, "My pleasure." Celestia spread out her wings and started flying out of the castle.

A few minutes later, Twilight Sparkle had Spike and Starlight Glimmer come to the meeting room. Twilight had five tickets, so she could go to the book show and she could invite four of her friends. Twilight had more friends, than just four, but she figured things would be okay. Twilight looked at Starlight and Spike, while saying, "Thank you, for coming."

Spike replied, "Whatever, dude. What do you mean?"

Twilight grinned and her excitement became crystal-clear, while she said, "I got tickets, to the grand-unveiling of the new Starswirl book." Starlight and Spike both had blank facial-expressions. Twilight kept grinning, while saying, "I'm guessing you two are wondering, if I'll be able to take you. You don't have to worry about that, because I have five tickets. The unveiling's tonight, so we better start getting ready."

Spike put his hand in front of Twilight's face, while replying, "Hold on, Twilight. Is this an April Fool's joke or something?"

Twilight Sparkle had a confused look on her face, while saying, "No it's not. I'm really excited, about the show."

Spike replied, "Well, I'm not going to that. Books are lame. Plus, books haven't been relevant, for a century."

Twilight Sparkle gave Spike a disapproving look, while saying, "If you don't want to go, that's fine. However, you don't have to mock literature."

In a cynical-sounding Spike replied, "Literature is a pretentious word, that geeks use, in order to seem smart."

Twilight Sparkle looked at Starlight, while saying, "I'm betting your excited, for tonight's book show. The newest Starswirl book has Starswirl fighting against a rival wizard, who wants to infest the land with chaos."

Starlight Glimmer nervously smiled, while replying, "I don't want to be rude, Twilight, but I like things, that are actually exciting or meaningful. Books don't qualify, as either of those things."

Twilight Sparkle looked disappointed, while saying, "So, you think books are boring and pointless?"

Spike said, "They sure are. Your library should become a garbage dump." He paused and said, "Actually, garbage dumps have more to offer, than a library ever could."

Twilight Sparkle was disappointed, with Spike and Starlight's behavior. However, she didn't want their negativity to ruin her day, so she grabbed a bag and started walking out of the castle and started thinking about what to do, with the other four tickets. She figured she better visit her other friends and see if they wanted to attend the book show.

Twilight quickly walked to Fluttershy's cottage and knocked on the door. Instead of Fluttershy answering the door, Discord opened the door. Discord was a former villain, who was known for being a chaos-loving goofball. He said, "Greetings, Ms. Sparkle. How's it going?"

Twilight Sparkle replied, "Um, hi, Discord. Is Fluttershy here?"

Discord looked offended, while saying, "I see I'm not the type of person, that anybody wants to talk to."

Suddenly, Twilight remembered that the new book had a chaotic wizard. Because of that, she figured the book would be up Discord's alley. Discord wasn't usually the type of person, that she chose to spend time with. However, Discord had been acting like irresponsible, in recent months, so she figured she could invite him to the show. Twilight looked back at Discord, while saying, "Actually, I want to talk to Fluttershy and you."

Discord smiled, while replying, "Well, this is a pleasant surprise. I'll go get Fluttershy." Twilight nodded and started sitting on one of the chairs, in Fluttershy's living room.

Fluttershy was outside and was watering her garden. However, Discord popped up and said, "Come on, Fluttershy. Twilight Sparkle's here."

Fluttershy replied, "Okay."

Fluttershy went inside and started making tea. She handed a cup to Twilight and Discord. Fluttershy sat down and said, "Greetings, Twilight. What's going on?"

Twilight Sparkle smiled, while saying. "Princess Celestia gave me five tickets, to tonight's book unveiling. They're going to release the new Starswirl book. Would you and Discord like to come along?"

Before Fluttershy could say anything, Discord said, "I've been looking forward, to the new Starswirl book." He paused and said, "Don't start thinking I'm a fan of Starswirl or anything. He's old and his beard looks absurd. However, I'm awfully excited, about the chaotic magician. I'm Discord, the master of chaos, so fellow chaos-lovers are a group of people, that I can't resist. I'm a bit offended, that Celestia didn't give me tickets." He had a mischievous grin on his face, while saying, "In fact, I think I'll send her a compliant letter." He chuckled and said, "Anyways, I'll come along."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "That's great." She looked back at Fluttershy and asked, "What about you?"

Fluttershy shyly said, "I wish I could come, Twilight. However, I have to babysit some pets, tonight, so I'm afraid I'll be busy."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "I understand, Fluttershy." Although Twilight was disappointed, that Fluttershy couldn't come, she was glad that Fluttershy had manners. Spike and Starlight could be pretty insensitive, when it came to books, so Twilight was thankful that some of her friends respected her love of reading.

Discord said, "It's too bad, that Fluttershy can't come." He looked at Twilight, while saying, "However, you and I are going to have a good time. I'm always the life of the party."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "Well, this isn't a party. It's a grand event."

Discord said, "Regardless, there's going to be chaos."

Twilight Sparkle said, "I better get going. I have to prepare for the show, which includes finding three friends, for the other tickets."

Discord replied, "How about you invite Rainbow Dash? From what I hear, she loves books."

Twilight Sparkle thought about it and responded, "Not a bad idea, Discord. I'll walk to her house."

Discord smirked and replied, "You want to ask? Petty use of time, if you ask me. I'll get us there, before you know it."

Discord snapped his fingers and sent Twilight and himself, to Rainbow Dash's house. Twilight knocked on the door. Rainbow Dash opened the door, while Twilight said, "Greetings, Rainbow Dash."

Rainbow Dash looked surprised to see Discord, because Fluttershy was usually the only one, who willingly spent time with Discord. Rainbow Dash said, "Hi, Twilight and Discord. What's going on?"

Twilight Sparkle explained, "There's a big book-related event, tonight. I have tickets and I want to invite you."

Rainbow Dash asked, "Is the library going to present the newest Daring Do book?"

Twilight Sparkle said, "I'm afraid not. It's the newest Starswirl book."

Discord looked excited, while saying, "Starswirl's going to fight an evil wizard, who has chaotic powers. It's going to be a fun night."

Rainbow Dash replied, "No offense, but that doesn't sound look a fun night. I'm going to pass."

Twilight Sparkle said, "But I thought you loved reading."

Rainbow Dash replied, "I like exciting books. Adventure is my favorite genre. Starswirl's too old and stiff."

After leaving Rainbow Dash's house, Twilight Sparkle sighed and said, "Rainbow Dash gave me the cold shoulder."

Discord patted Twilight's back and replied, "Don't worry, because we're going to go to Applejack's barn, next. I'm sure she'll want to go and if she doesn't, maybe one of her family members will agree to go."

Twilight Sparkle responded, "That's another good idea, Discord."

Discord smugly said, "I'm one of the most intelligent citizens, in all of Ponyville."

Twilight Sparkle smirked and replied, "Don't get too self-obsessed."

Discord chuckled and responded, "I can't help it, if I'm attracted to myself."

Discord sent himself and Twilight, to Applejack's farm. Applejack was gathering-up apples, when she saw Twilight and Discord. Applejack didn't have much tolerance, when it came to Discord, but she was always glad to see Twilight. She said, "Hi, Twilight. What's going on?"

Twilight Sparkle asked, "Would you like to attend tonight's book show?"

Applejack put some apples into a barrel, while saying, "I'm sorry, Twilight, but I have to deliver some apples, tonight."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "I understand."

Discord looked around and saw Applejack's family. Applejack's younger sister, Apple Bloom and her older brother, Big Mac, were also gathering-up apples, while Granny Smith sat in a rocking chair. Discord looked at Apple Bloom, while asking, "Do you want to come along?"

Apple Bloom said, "Books are outdated."

Discord looked at Big Mac, while asking, "What about you?"

Big Mac answered, "Nope."

Discord walked by Granny Smith, while asking, "Do you want to go to a book show?"

Granny Smith said, "Back in my days, we didn't have books."

Twilight Sparkle and Discord raised their eyebrows, while Twilight asked, "How old are you?" Granny Smith shrugged her shoulders.

After leaving the farm, Twilight and Discord went Rarity's boutique. They walked inside and saw Rarity, who was polishing some dresses. Twilight walked closer and said, "Greetings, Rarity."

Rarity smiled and replied, "Hi, Twilight." Rarity looked a bit upset, to see Discord. Although she tried not to be superficial, Rarity didn't like Discord's odd appearance.

Twilight Sparkle said, "I'm going to a book show, tonight. Do you want to come?"

Rarity asked, "Is it going to be a stylish event?"

Twilight said, "Kind of. The cover looks glossy."

Rarity replied, "That does sound tempting, but I'm afraid my boutique is going to be keeping me busy, so I won't have enough time, to get the proper outfit."

Discord asked, "Who cares about your outfit?"

Rarity answered, "The outfit is the most important thing, about any social event." Discord rolled his eyes.

Next, Twilight and Discord went to the bake shop, that Pinkie Pie worked at. They went inside and went to the front counter. Pinkie Pie smiled, while saying, "Hi, Twilight and Discord. How can I help you?"

Twilight Sparkle said, "I have an event, that I want to invite you to."

Pinkie Pie jumped in the air and replied, "I love parties. They're the best."

Twilight Sparkle said, "It's not really a party. It's a book show. They're going to present the newest Starswirl book, tonight. Do you want to come?"

Pinkie Pie replied, "I'd like to, but I'm afraid I have to work, overtime, because I ate a lot of the treats, that I was supposed to be selling."

Pinkie Pie looked at her sister, Maud, who was eating a cake, that was in the shape of a rock. Pinkie looked back at Twilight and said, "Maybe you can invite my sister, Maud."

Twilight Sparkle and Discord looked at Maud, while Twilight asked, "Do you want to go to the book signing?"

Maud Pie said, "I'm not really a fan of books. However, Boulder is. Maybe he wants to come. I'll ask him."

Discord whispered to Twilight, "Who's Boulder?"

Twilight Sparkle whispered back, "Boulder is Maud's pet rock. As far as we know, he's an inanimate object, but Maud acts like he's real."

Maud Pie pulled Boulder out of her sweater and said, "Boulder, would you like to go to the book show, with Pinkie's book-loving friend and that chaos fella?" Maud listened to Boulder, before saying, "Boulder would love to come. Just make sure you get back, before midnight."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "Um, okay."

Twilight Sparkle and Discord started walking out of the bake shop, while Twilight put Boulder in her bag. Twilight said, "Well, it appears we found somebody, to take one of the tickets."

Discord asked, "Are you serious? Are you giving one of the tickets, to a rock?"

Twilight Sparkle said, "I think I am. At the very least, I'm using three of the tickets, so it's not a waste."

Discord said, "So, you, me and a rock are going to a book show? I must say, that this is already a chaotic situation."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "I must say, that I'm glad you agreed to come."

Discord had an amused look on his face, while saying, "It's adorable, that you're acting like you want me to come. It's obvious you only invited me, because I happened to be at Fluttershy's place, when you visited her and you were too nice, to make me feel left out. I know you'd much rather be with your real friends, than me."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "Hey, you are a friend and although you often push my buttons, I like spending time with you. I know you'd much rather be with Fluttershy, right now, but I'm still glad you're coming with me."

Discord responded, "Fluttershy's as sweet as can be, but she does act a bit too shy, at times. She's not the only pony, that I like to hang out with."

Twilight Sparkle paused and said, "Is it possible, that we're actually getting along?"

Discord smiled, while replying, "Apparently, we are. It's unexpected, but I can't say I mind seeing you smile, rather than watching you be annoyed, by my latest string of antics."

Twilight Sparkle said, "The book show starts in a couple of hours."

Discord replied, "Well, that's disappointing. I was hoping the show would start, soon. I don't want to wait."

Twilight Sparkle said, "Don't count your pages, before they fall out of the book."

Discord raised an eyebrow, while asking, "What kind of expression is that supposed to be?"

Twilight Sparkle shrugged her shoulders and said, "I don't know. Anyways, we still need to get ready."

Discord asked, "Get ready? What are you talking about? It's a book show and we're guests, not hosts. We just have to show up and have fun."

Twilight Sparkle thought about it and realized Discord was right. She was used to having to do lots of prep-work, when she attended social gatherings. However, there was no real work, that she had to do, this time. She said, "Actually, I think you're right, Discord. There's nothing, that I need to worry about."

Suddenly, Discord heard Twilight's growling stomach. Discord said, "It appears you have to worry about getting fed."

Twilight Sparkle replied, "I better have dinner, before the show. Would you like to join me?"

Discord answered, "Sure."
