Peter's mind was racing wild as he walked from work to the hospital. Davy had called him and told him about the whole Robert Nesmith Sr. situation and assured him that everything had been taken care of. Still, he couldn't help himself from worrying. He finally made it to Mike's room but froze in his tracks when he saw a girl draped over the bed, sobbing.

"Oh, Michael!" She cried, a Southern accent showing through, "how could this happen?"

Normally, Peter would go over and try to comfort the girl but this hadn't been a normal day. Something had seemed so artificial in her cries, and he couldn't shake the feeling that it just felt...off. She looked up when Peter stepped into the room. Her shoulder-length blonde hair was a mess, blue eyes filled with anger and tears when she saw him.

"Who are you?" She asked, accusingly. He recoiled slightly.

"Mike's brother, who are you?"

She scoffed and shook her head.

"No, you're too old to be Mike's brother."

Peter shrugged.

"Well, I'm not his brother, exactly, but still. Who are you?"

"Mike's girlfriend." She said as if it was obvious.

Mike doesn't have a...does he?

"Wait," It didn't take him too long to put the pieces together, "are you Magnolia?"

"Maggie," she corrected and nodded. "I'm assuming Mike's told you about me?"

Oh, yeah. Peter thought to himself, anger beginning to boil inside him. He's told me plenty about you.

She sighed and looked back over at Mike, her hand reaching out to touch his face.

"It's so sad what happened to him," she said, softly stroking his cheek. Peter wanted nothing more than to smack her hand away.

"When did this happen?"

Maggie turned to look at him, blue eyes filled with tears. But the tears were just as artificial as her.

"About two months ago."

She gasped.

"Two months?!" Her voice cracked and her arms draped over Mike again. "Oh, Mike! I'm so sorry."

He pitied her, sure, but in the moment, felt nothing but anger toward her.

"You two broke up," Peter began walking to her, "years ago, you broke up."

She nodded, sadly.

"He broke my heart, but I still love him."

"I don't get it." He said, frowning. "You left him after you cheated on him."

She sniffled. "Leaving Mike was the worst mistake of my life."

What about the cheating-on-him part? Peter wondered but stayed silent. He clenched his fists, knuckles turning white with anger.

"You know, he really liked you, Maggie-"

"-And I really liked him too-"

"No, you don't! Or you didn't. You just used him to get what you wanted. You could have anyone you wanted, but you chose him because he was hurt and vulnerable and out of your reach. So you chase after him, thinking he'd be a fun challenge. A game, to see if you could get him to go with you. And he thinks you really like him, too, because no one else wants to give him the time of day. So he'll do anything that he thinks will please you because he doesn't want to lose you. Because you tell him that you're the only one who cares, who can care about him. But you don't, you never did. You just liked him for the challenge." He snapped. Maggie, even, was startled by the outburst. Enough to stay silent for a moment. Peter took a deep breath before he continued.

"Can you just leave, please? I don't want you near Mike. If you come back, I'll..." his voice trailed off as he tried to think of something. He couldn't. "Just don't come back, please."

Maggie frowned but stood and grabbed her bag. She didn't object or defend herself. Instead, she sighed and gazed back over at Mike. "I love you," she whispered before catching Peter's glare.

"Bye, Mike." She said quietly before finally leaving.
