This is bad.

Were the thoughts of one Weiss Schnee. She had just taken a quest from her guild and was looking to complete it by herself. She couldn't be blamed, that quest was pretty easy, but then again… who would've thought that the bandits she was supposed to apprehend had more members than she thought?

Certainly not her, that's for sure. And that's why she found herself verbally and literally backed into a wall right now, with multiple bandits coming from all sides. Not only that, they had mages! So, this particular bandit group had a dark guild backing them, huh? Quite a predicament.

An explosion was heard as multiple bandits were thrown away and a figure jumped back to Weiss. The figure looked to be a girl that wears a typical maid outfit, consisting of a black undercoat and a white, frilled-trim apron and white knee-length socks with black Mary Jane shoes. She also had pink hair and blue eyes. Overall looking like quite a normal maid, were it not for the shackles around her wrists.

The maid then blurred and kicked away a bandit that was trying to ambush Weiss.

"Are you okay, Princess?" the pinkette asked.

"Thank you for that, Virgo." Weiss answered.

Weiss sighed as she kept her hands on a pouch filled with keys. How did she get herself into this mess again? Oh right, she was once, or still is, part of the Schnee family, one of – if not the wealthiest and most influential conglomerate family in the country of Vale, said to be the Beacon of magic, which funnily enough has a guild called Beacon.

Weiss' days before her mother's death were… peaceful, and she could say fun? She missed those days: where after tutoring, Weiss and her siblings would go to the garden where their mother often resided, and practically beg her to show different spirits – her being a Celestial Spirit Mage and all.

However, since the death of her mother, the heirlooms passed onto both her daughters, Weiss and Winter. The Celestial Spirit Keys. Celestial Spirits are magical beings from their own separate universe, the Celestial Spirit World. Some Mages, called Celestial Spirit Mages due to their specialization in Celestial Spirit Magic, are able to summon Spirits by opening their Gates via the use of Celestial Spirit Gate Keys.

These Keys are separated into two classes: the more common Silver Keys and the extremely rare Gold Keys. Keys for Celestial Spirits are counted in Units (collectively without regard to Gold or Silver), and a Celestial Spirit Mage is noted by how many Units they have obtained.

There are tons of abilities and many ways a Celestial Spirit Mage can use their magic. Things like Force Gate Closure which forces the gate of a Celestial Spirit to close, sending them back to the Celestial Spirit World, in case of an emergency. Multiple Summoning – although that requires more practice and a large amount of Magic Power to maintain.

Although the most notable ones are the Tribute Summoning and Star Dress. Tribute Summoning requires a sacrifice in order to summon the strongest spirit, the Celestial Spirit King, and its user having enough Magic power to at least open three gates simultaneously.

Finally, Star Dress. It is a spell in which the user incorporates the power of a Celestial Spirit into their body by placing the key of the Spirit in question on their chest. Similar to Requip Magic, the power manifests itself in the form of a change of outfits, in this case in the form of a dress centered around the Spirit in question's own wardrobe.

The user also adopts the appearance and a portion of the Spirit's power. The adoption is not limited to the Spirit's Magic, but also their Magic Power itself. This means that a Celestial Spirit Mage will not only receive their chosen Spirit's power and outfit but also receive a Magic Power boost.

The user can also combine some or all of their star dresses into one, which is known as Star Dress Mix which manifests itself in the form of a dress and a crossed keys tattoo at the back of their hand with each key representing the Celestial Spirit Gate Keys of the Star Dress Forms that are being merged together.

There are supposedly 12 Gold keys called the Zodiacs – though there were rumors about a 13th one from what Weiss has heard – and out of all of them; Weiss had inherited six while the rest have gone to her elder sister, Winter. Her little brother Whitley, however, had stated that he wished to be taught Ice-Make Magic as opposed to being a Celestial Spirit Mage. So instead of all three of them having four keys each, two of them had six keys each.

Speaking of the keys, Winter had received the Gates of the Giant Crab, Paired Fish, Lion, Ram, Scorpion, and the Water Bearer. While she had received the Gates of the Golden Bull, Heavenly Scales, Maiden, Archer, Twins, and Goat. All three of them were being taught the magic they chose to use ever since they reached ten years of age.

Speaking of which, ever since Whitley turned 10 and has been receiving tutoring, he started… stripping? Weiss wonders why, since Whitley had never done that before. Oh well, far be it from her to stop him from doing what he wants. But it's still strange, seeing Whitley discarding his clothes more often. Was he feeling too hot? Was that a factor as to how he wanted to be taught Ice-Make Magic?

It wasn't all that bad though. Despite her father's care – or lack thereof, they were still functioning as a healthy family… barely. While her father, Jacques Schnee was not the most fatherly individual, he had still provided for the family resources to have a stable and comfy lifestyle, like food and shelter.

Waking up, having breakfast, taking baths then preparing for studying and tutoring. Eating lunch and after that, training their magic to the best of their abilities. In the end, free time is given for either reviewing or self-studying on their own, or just simply call it a day and rest. That was the daily life of the Schnee siblings. Stable, comfy, peaceful.

Unfortunately, those days didn't last forever.

Winter joined Frozen Tundra, one of the top guilds of Atlas. She had been rising up the ranks since then, becoming one of the fastest people to reach A-Class Wizard and also one of the rising talents of Atlas. Weiss wasn't surprised in the slightest. Her sister was strong, after all! She had even unlocked most of the Star Dresses of her Spirits! However, she had taken a rank-up trial to advance to S-Class. The trial itself was an event that is participated by multiple A-Class Wizards and a few S-Class supervising them.

Winter and the others had supposedly traveled to a place far away for the event. Unfortunately, she and the others never came back and they were filed as Missing. The Schnee residents were struck. The servants were distressed about another one of their masters leaving them. Their tutors were saddened at the loss. Jacques became even more recluse, spending less and less time with his family and more in the business. Weiss and Whitley were struck, and Winter's disappearance had left an impact on them.

Whitley had been spending more time putting effort in to his magic, hoping to become stronger and stronger for himself and his family. While Weiss had been trying to find her sister ever since her disappearance. From hiring private investigators to outright begging her father to use his resources to search Winter, she'd done everything she could.

That's when her father told her that joining a guild was a good step to finding her sister. She'd been told that S-Class wizards were privy to more information than most – simply because information on the wrong hands can be dangerous and the kingdoms can't risk someone weak holding classified details should they be captured, that and those hidden of hidden knowledge are far deadlier than most could handle that it is up to S-Class wizards to handle them.

And so, out of all the guilds to choose from Atlas – since having a high prestige guarantees you access to most, if not all of them, she chose… Beacon.

Why?

Simple. Because her sister wished for her to do so. One of the stories she used to tell when she took on quests involving traveling to Vale, is how Beacon was good for Weiss. They were simply built differently from the other guilds. Where-as most guilds had permission from the Council to even form, Beacon was built before that, therefore the Council was forced to spare them from tax. But monetary reasons aside, their members were eccentric, different from the rest… and perfect for Weiss.

She didn't know why Winter said that at the time, but she wanted to find out and that's the main reason she traveled all the way to Vale from Atlas and joined its top guild, Beacon.

What her sister said was true. The guild members are… different, very different, all things considered. Most of them were uncultured swine with no respect for others, some of them would probably not be able to tell left from right, and a few are downright horrendous.

And yet Weiss couldn't be any happier with them. They treated her as their own the first day she went there. They were casual. They were chaotic. They were… fun. Weiss would be honored to be with them on their way to become one of the strongest guilds in Remnant and be one of its strongest members.

Which is why she took a quest. An easy quest, one that would only require one member to complete it, one that Weiss took. The one that got her into this mess because there were more bandits than expected. Crud.

"Just my luck, I even refused help from my friends because I wanted to do this on my own."

Weiss sighed in distaste. She wanted to prove to her members that she was not some damsel in distress that needed saving, that she could take care of herself just fine. She wanted to prove to the guild that she belonged here.

"Princess, look out!" Virgo shouted.

Weiss was interrupted from her musing by Virgo punching away another bandit.

Weiss looked at the back of her left hand. On it was her guild insignia, a tattoo of two crossed axes in a circle with the bottom part of the circle being a laurel wreath. Right, no more distractions! Time to take this seriously.

"Open the Gate of the Goat! Capricorn!" Weiss took out a golden key with a white center bearing the crest of the goat. The blade was sculpted to appear similar to a goat's head with horns sprouting out of each side and curling towards the center. The key glowed and a magic circle appeared and from it, came Capricorn.

Capricorn is a tall humanoid who possesses many goat-like traits: his body is covered in short, brownish-white fur, with longer tufts covering his lower face, resembling a goatee, and the back of his legs, which greatly resemble those of a goat, being slightly bent backward and ending in dark hooves. He has short, thin ears sitting on top of his head, with a distinctive, elongated oval form, and horns that curve downwards and jut forwards from the side of his head. From his lower back sprouts a mildly long tail ending in a dark tuft of fur, and his fingers sport long and dark nails highly reminiscent of claws. His elongated face possesses marked cheekbones and a prominent, large nose; and his eyes are hidden away by a pair of black, mirror polished shades.

"What do you need me for, Lady Weiss?" asked Capricorn with a respectful tone.

Weiss jumped back to avoid a hit from a fireball and kicked a bandit in the groin, knocking him out. "I need you to take care of all of these bandits for me." Weiss ordered the goat.

"As you wish, Lady Weiss." Said goat then jumped into the midst of the bandit group and fought.

"As for you Virgo, hide and watch my back."

"Very well, Princess." The maid dug underground, hoping to counter-ambush anyone who dares ambush her lady.

"Right." Weiss took a breath and equipped another golden key; this one having a very decorative bow. The center of the bow features the crest of the heavenly scales. The end of the key's blade appears to be a thicker variation of the symbol, also resembling a horseshoe. The derivative of the design of gleaming circles on the sides of the bow and the top of the handle appears to be the pans of scales.

"Star Dress: Libra Form!" Light surrounded the girl's body as she glowed. As the glow receded, she was shown wearing different clothing: she was wearing a blue fitted bra that covers most of the top half of her body, a hip belt supporting light-blue harem pants. On her feet were sandals, her hair turned from a ponytail to wavy hair. Her attire was decorated with ornaments here and there, a cloth that has Libra's crest covering the bottom half of her face, and on her hands were gloves with Libra's crest. Overall, her attire looked like a more conservative belly dancer/harem dancer.

Her previous outfit before the transformation was a hip-length white skirt and a white shirt, with a black jacket over it. She was also wearing black stockings with a white line at the end of them.

Weiss then charged at the separated group of bandits. Disoriented as they did not expect their target to come at them, the bandits did not prepare for the kick that attacked them. The belly dancer performed an ax kick to the shoulder of one of them. The bandit, thinking that since she was a belly dancer, assumed that she could not have that much strength and smiled.

He immediately regretted his decisions, as his face was slammed down the ground.

The other bandits clearly did not expect for that kick to have that much force, sending that one guy into the ground and cracking it. It was as if her hit was heavier than they expected. She then dodged an attack and grappled them towards his allies. She would have been attacked from behind by a wayward bandit had he not been blocked by Virgo and then tossed by her to his group which had fallen into a deep hole dug by her.

As for Capricorn, he did a back step and dodged a hit from a bandit nonchalantly. The way he was fighting was like a master; efficient, no wasted movements, and the perfect amount of force used to attack.

"You should give up now and let Lady Weiss apprehend you." Capricorn pointed out while doing a roundhouse kick behind him, knocking out one of them.

"Shut up! Get him!" the bandit who looked to be a leader ordered and his goons followed.

"The weakest ones are always the ignorant." Capricorn sighed. He was not even going all-out on this. This was just disappointing, to say the least. All of these bandits may be a bit experienced, but they have no fighting style, this experience that they have is literally just charging and swinging around their weapons. At least…

Capricorn ducked as he saw a water blade flow past him and into the other bandits. He looked behind him to see multiple mages lining up with a few guards around him.

At least they provided more trouble – even though he could only count them as annoying.

A few minutes later and Weiss was shown surrounded by unconscious bodies, Virgo to her left and Capricorn to her right.

She was taking deep breaths, clearly tired and lost a lot of Magic Power, but still enough to keep going.

"Finally, that took longer than it needed to." Weiss panted. If only someone actually bothered to check if the threat level – the number of bandits – was accurate, then maybe she could've asked for help.

"At least it's over now." Weiss recalled her two summoned spirits as they glowed and went back into their keys.

Just as she was about to apprehend the bandits, she was attacked.

"Agh!" She was hit by something and was sent dragging onto the ground.

She looked around but didn't notice anyone. Just as she was turning her head one more time, she was kicked in the back of the head that sent her flying once more.

Concealment Magic? No, Stealth Magic!? Weiss thought. It was what she inferred from the limited information. There was no one to attack her that was visible, she could not hear anyone, and as far as she knew Concealment Magic could only trick the sight, not the other senses. So, she was fighting a hidden mage here, who probably was waiting for the chance to attack.

Stealth, also known as Assassination Magic is a variation of Concealment Magic that allows the user to make use of absolute camouflage. his Magic allows the user to completely conceal their own presence, see what cannot normally be seen by others, and make what can normally be seen now unseen. When the user erases their own presence, they wipe out their ability to be seen, heard, or smelled, thus allowing them to move about completely undetected, even if they were seen by people just prior.

The good news is: while Stealth Mages were rare and difficult to find, you don't actually need to see them to defeat them. People who have plenty of experience in fighting can sense where their opponents are, and large area attacks can also affect them just like your regular enemy. The bad news is, Weiss doesn't have enough Magic Power to call upon the Gate of the Golden Bull – her physically strongest spirit – to perform an area attack.

It was unfortunate as the hidden enemy kept attacking Weiss, beating her up over and over. Kicks, punches, throws, tackles, any possible attack was inflicted upon the girl until she was too weak to stand up.

Everything hurts. Damn it. The girl thought as she was seeing black spots in her vision. Her outfit – belly dancer clothing has long gone as it returned to her normal one. Bruises and injuries all over her body – overall a horrible experience for the Schnee.

She can feel it. Her attacker. It's not the same feeling experienced fighters get, nor is it instinct like animals have when they're being watched by a predator. She can just feel the attacker approaching her, sauntering casually, slowly, as if they're savoring this moment before they get to end her life.

I don't want to die…

Just as she closed her eyes though…

She felt her body shifting, and suddenly impacted on… wooden floor?

The last thing she could see before she felt warm and passed out was the colors yellow, black and red.

Weiss woke up with a start. The first three things she knew were:

Her whole body was covered in bandages.

The sun was setting, so it must be noon.

Her whole body was sore.

She looked around the room and noticed that it was her room in the dorms. Hm… the last thing she remembered was—

"The bandit!" the white-haired girl yelled.

The door suddenly opened and a girl in red walked in. She was wearing a red scarf, a red jacket over a black shirt, a black combat skirt, pantyhose, and black combat boots. On the back of her right hand was Beacon's insignia tattoo.

"Weiss! Are you okay!?" the girl in red questioned as she rushed and gushed over Weiss.

"Ruby, I'm fine… a bit sore and numb in some places, but fine."

"Thank goodness, we can't be Team RWBY if there's no W, y'know?"

"Right…" Weiss deadpanned. Despite the fact that Ruby just stated that her safety was only relevant because of one letter in a team acronym, Weiss knew she was just joking.

"Speaking of… where are the other two?" Weiss asked.

"Oh—! after they knew you were doing okay, they took on a quest and also talked to the guy who provided your quest in the first place, something about interviewing and double-checking, I think?" Ruby replied with a bemused expression on her face.

More like an interrogation. Weiss thought and snorted mentally. She knew those two weren't exactly subtle. Even Blake, no matter how hard she tries to hide it, is actually the most reckless out of all of them.

"Anyway, how did I get here?" Weiss questioned. She was curious as to how she got from a faraway place to the guild.

"Oh, that? That's because of Fox! He brought you here after Velvet found you and ordered for you to be brought home." Ruby explained.

That explains things. Fox Alistair and Velvet Scarlatina are both A-Rank Wizards. Fox had a variant of Teleportation Magic and Velvet has some advanced form of Clairvoyance Magic. They were also known as the "Savior Duo" since Velvet will tell Fox the location of the target which Fox will teleport to and rescue them.

"I see." Weiss mused.

The two kept talking about random topics in the minutes. When Ruby stopped talking and looked thoughtful for a moment before turning to Weiss.

"But seriously though, are you okay?" the fifteen-year-old girl questioned.

Weiss was silent for a moment. "No… not really" She looked down, finding her lap particularly interesting. She was shaking.

Ruby kept asking.

Weiss kept ignoring the question and kept changing the flow of the conversation.

Ruby followed and didn't question any further until a few minutes later when she asked again and this time…

"Why?" and that was the question and insistence that broke the camel's back.

"I refused your help because I thought it would be easy that I can handle it by myself! I expected the best of myself!" Weiss ranted.

She then calmed down and spoke melancholically "I wanted to prove to the guild that I belonged here. With Vale, with Beacon… with Team RWBY… I disappointed you… I disappointed myself" the tears fell.

Ruby stared at Weiss. For a moment, she was silent… and then she opened her mouth.

"No, you didn't."

"What?" Weiss was flabbergasted.

"I said 'no, you didn't'" Ruby repeated.

"Why?" the Schnee asked.

"Because you're Weiss Schnee, member of team RWBY. You can never disappoint us." Ruby stated with a smile on her face.

Weiss was speechless. She thought that she would be kicked out of the team because she refused help. That she was reckless. She thought that they will look down on her because she was arrogant. But no, they didn't not like those in Atla—

That's right.

She wasn't in Atlas. She was in Vale, in Beacon. She was with friends, not backstabbing and conniving oafs who'd speak behind her back the moment she was away. Not like the old men there who only saw her as a tool to get married and incorporate the Schnee family into having more influence. She was with team RWBY…

"…Thank you." Weiss said to Ruby with a smile on her face.

Ruby smiled back.

A/N: Whoops, I did say the next chapter will involve Whitley, I just didn't say he wasn't the main focus. Sorry.

It's hard trying to write about Whitley when I know so little about him. And from the show's POV and by the protagonists' view – he was a little shit. I don't know how to write – much less write a compelling character when their first and only impression from the show was that he was a little shit who somehow helped his MILF of a mother stop the Hound by just dropping a pillar or something.

Winter = Cancer, Pisces, Leo, Aries, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

Weiss = Taurus, Libra, Virgo, Sagittarius, Gemini, and Capricorn
