I do not own Andromeda or any of it's characters
Cute one shot Harper/Trance
Some things may not be scientifically accurate or accurate to the show but I really wanted to write it so get over it...
enjoy!(:
"Trance we have to go.", said Harper hurriedly.
She nodded as he carefully placed a device behind her ear.
"Okay obviously there are no E.V.A. suits in here and definitely no escape pods so this little guy is all we've got. It will give us the minimum amount of air over the longest period of time so when we're out there, try not to move or talk or exert any energy. I mean except blinking, you have to blink cause-", Harper started before Trance stopped him.
"I understand, we should go though.", she said anxiously.
"Right. Well Andromeda thanks for trying to kill us, I still love ya though! It's a curse really.", said Harper as he put the same kind of device behind his own ear.
"I just hope to the divine that Dylan gets our message in time.", said Harper.
"Hey Trance...i-i'm sorry I couldn't fix this one.", he said looking down guiltily.
Trance lifted his chin with her caring hand. "It's not your fault.", she said with her always beautiful smile.
"Toxicity levels approaching critical. Entering observation deck in fifteen seconds. Fifteen...fourteen...thirteen...", blared Andromeda.
Harper looked over at Trances fear filled eyes, safely taking her hand in his. His eyes returned an assuring look that eased her rapid heart beat.
He guided them to their knees protectively placing his arm over Trances back as he threw the Harper-rigged explosive toward the window.
They both ducked as the shards of glass were taken into space before they could shatter.
Trance and Harper embraced quickly for stability and possibily for comfort.
In less than a blink of an eye, their bodies were swallowed into empty space.
It was like how dust bunnies feel when they're sucked up by a vacuum, except probably a little scarier.
Trances arms still wrapped tightly around Harpers neck, his own arms wrapped protectively around her waist.
The two silently agreed to let go as they slowly drifted apart, now joined only by their hands.
Trance squeezed Harpers hand with fear as they both tried to relax from the chilling experience. If they didn't they would only die quicker.
Their hearts slowed as Harper gave her a look that said "focus on me".
Trance felt easier as she focused on his familiar eyes.
They slowly and unwillingly began to float away from Andromeda as the dark space seemed to get colder around them.
Fear wasn't quite the word to describe being surrounded by nothingness. It was a mixture of feelings like the opposite of claustrophobia and how it felt as a child to be afraid of the dark.
Harper gazed at Trance hoping her beauty would distract him from his surroundings like it had so many times before. She stood out now more than ever against the abyss of empty space. Her skin was like a soft golden dream, and her hair floated in perfect curly tendrils making her appear as perfection in it's true form. He wished he could tell her how pretty he thought she was, but he knew even if he could he wouldn't be able to put it into words. He silently thanked the far off stars for the light they gave so they could see each other amongst the darkness.
Trance looked back at Harper, feeling softened by his comforting smile. It made her wonder how he always managed to make her laugh in the worst situation, always passing her feelings of safety and security.
Even if it wasted energy, the second of oxygen lost was worth it to him as he lifted his free hand to her cheek.
She closed her eyes laying into it as her tear escaped onto his hand.
His own eyes blurred with fear-filled and frozen tears as he willed them away, not wanting to block his gaze from her.
It was as if no other moments existed but the one they shared now. Time had stopped everywhere else but here. But it was a slower type of time, the kind that ticked by with lazy thoughts.
Their oxygen deprived bodies felt weak floating aimlessly in the universe. Harper felt a flicker of energy as Trance drifted in front of a distant nebula. She was like a mystical goddess of the stars.
She smirked curiously at the sudden soft smile that painted Seamus' face. But the surreal image would be his little secret for now.
A frosty pattern tickled their blue tinted skin. It may have only been a few minutes but the cold of space was so deep it soon became numbing.
They both pretty much figured this was it by now. Dylan wasn't here yet and there was certainly no cavalry in sight. They could see in each others faces that they shared the thought that this was there unavoidable demise.
They both thought that if they were gonna die this certainly wasn't the worst way to meet the maker. And alas even in the grim situation they both seemed to sustain their always shared and usually unwavering sunny disposition.
They both wished they could read the others thoughts. But then again, staring silently into each other's eyes was looking pretty good too.
Trance imagined Harper thinking "boy, who'd a thought facing iminant death would be boring. I mean you'd think at least there'd be some reading material like 'how to make it big in the afterlife!' or 'what to say when you meet the big guy upstairs'.". She chuckled softly, hearing his silly voice in her head.
Harper smiled seeing her sudden lifted spirits. But her smile faded slightly along with her grip.
Suddenly Trances sparkly eyes started to blink closed. Seamus' heart began to beat as he squeezed her hand with shaky hope. His eyebrows creased with fear as he was deeply tempted to say her name. It was too late though as her eyes didn't flinch.
Harper now let his own heavy eyelids close as they were only staying open for her.
"They can't be far, Rhade scan the surrounding space.", said Dylan as the crew waited in silent anxiousness.
Dylan had recieved the message while him and the rest of the crew sat around the bar down on Seefra.
"Hey Dylan how's it goin? I hope your day is going swimmingly, say what's the weather like down there? Listen uh Trance and I are in a bit of a jam and when I say jam I mean more like if you don't get up here soon you'll need a big help wanted sign for our resident golden princess and friendly neighborhood engineer slash bar keep. Andromedas picked up a virus somewhere and its no wonder with the crap that riddles this systems technology. Well anyway it overloaded the nitrogen intake valves and started flooding slipstream core and all the decks. The security system is goin crazy and we're stuck on the obs deck. Unless you got any bright ideas that your local genius hasn't already thought of then I suggest you haul it to the Maru. If you don't get here soon...well let's just say I hate my back up plan."
The crew all got to the Eureka Maru as fast as they could with Beka hopping in the pilots seat. Soon enough the Andromeda was in sight.
"Scanning.", said Rhade.
"Two anomalies about a mile from Andomedas port side.", said Rhade hopefully.
Without a word Beka brought her around.
"There they are!", said Dylan.
The crew was astonished at the picture in front of them. Harper and Trance drifted beautifully together in space. Their hands held them together, their bodies floated up like they were in water. The same nebula from before drifted behind the scene making the situation mesmerizing in a way.
Snapping back to reality, the worried team quickly retrieved their crew members.
Harper blinked open his weary eyes as he felt his natural warmth return.
It took him a moment to remember what had happened before he quickly looked around for Trance.
His heart relaxed as he saw her laying on a bed near by. Oh they were on the Andromeda he realized. How did that happen he wondered. It didn't matter right now though, he had to see Trance was okay, to see the usual light in her eyes.
Slowly he walked the short distance, making it to where she was.
He lifted the sheets as he slipped in next to her very softly.
Her eyes flickered open for a moment as she looked at Harper. There was a content smile upon her face as she nuzzled into his chest. His arms wrapped around her safely as they breathed together in the quiet solitude.
Her perfect golden eyelids slipped closed once again as Harper stayed awake. He watched over his angel through the night as he replayed their time in space.
