The dawn of another sleepless night. Edythe stared out as the stars winked out one after another, and the moon dimmed, and the sky lightened.
Somehow, this day seemed different from all others. Edythe's gloomy outlook lifted slightly, as if fog was clearing into a haze.
She stood and stretched, though she didn't need to. She sighed, mostly for the satisfaction of the sound.
Edythe smiled, the first time in a while. Time for a run.
She leapt out of the window gracefully, the sun setting fire to her hair, and ran through the trees. So caught up in the joy of running was she, that she did not notice the border.
Edythe skidded to a stop, a snarl ripping from her as she nearly ran into a scared looking russet wolf.
The snarl was just as suddenly cut off. His scent…wasn't bad?!
Edythe carefully moved to the edge of the border.
She was so sure her hand would be bitten off, but…
Edythe reached out and touched her enemy. His thoughts were reckless and confused.
"Why is this leech touching me?! Should I bite her? I can't just bite her, can I? GOD she smells SO GOOD!"
Edythe chuckled. "Easy Jacob…easy…"
"Don't treat me like a fucking PET."
Edythe withdrew her hand, feeling unexpectedly hurt. "I-I'm sorry."
She'd STAMMERED!
Jacob looked agonized and licked her face.
This was the start of a haze that swept over them. The bells of war began to ring.
