It was morning, and Luzura was woken up early by Belos, who was fuming.
"What were you thinking?!" Belos roared, "You were the one thing I could use to spy on the inhabitants of the Owl House, and now you just ruined that!"
"My liege," Luzura stated, "I was simply doing what I believed necessary to convince them that I was really…my old self. She was always overly excited about everything, and I figured if I—"
"If you what, used a spell circle? How would you explain that to them?"
"I was going to say that I used some of the Titan's blood to give myself some magical abilities to help fight you. I know that they would have been foolish enough to fall for that. And had you not intervened, I may have been able to actually do so!"
"Ah, I see. You're smarter than I would have given you credit for, but don't take that tone with me again if you want to still be free to do almost whatever. Now, I have some…important business that I need to tend to with the Day of Unity approaching so fast."
"My liege, if you don't mind my asking," Luzura started carefully, "what exactly is the Day of Unity? What could it bring to help usher in a new age of controlled magic?"
"With the Day so close, I suppose you'll have to wait for it, like the rest of my troops and Hunter. The only person I've entrusted with that information is Kikimora, and she's a harder nut to crack than a pistachio. They may not seem like it, but they are surprisingly hard to crack, did you know that?"
"I'm originally from Earth, so yeah, I know pistachios are hard to crack."
"Anyway, I'm off. If anyone asks, I'm on a trip to deal with an unwanted threat. And, here, as a sign of authority, I give you Lilith's old coven seal." He gave the human-witch hybrid the seal and left promptly to go back to where he was before.
"Cool." Luzura was definitely going to use this to mess with Kiki and Hunter.
Meanwhile at the Owl House:
"I…don't understand!" Amity sobbed, "How could she be turned so easily?"
"It's as much a mystery to us as it is to you, kid. I never thought in a million years the emperor would be able to pull of such a stunt. That kid seemed unbreakable," Eda said.
"HOOT! Good morning! Wait, where's Luz? She was here yesterday, wasn't she?" Hooty asked, completely oblivious as to what had transpired in the hours before.
"Hooty, I have some bad news." With that, Eda started to explain what had really happened with Luz, being sure to say at some point, "damn that girl can act!"
Back at the Emperor's Castle:
"Oh, Kiki!" Luzura said teasingly, "Guess what I have?"
"What? What could possibly be so important that you have to bother me?!" Kikimora said in a rage.
"Oh, I have Lilly's old coven badge!" Luzura showed it to her, somehow making the short demon much redder than she normally was.
"WHAT?! How did you get that?"
"Belos gave it to me, said I'm in charge while he's gone."
"Where did he go? This is the first I'm hearing of him leaving the castle without warning."
"He just said he was 'going to deal with an unwanyted threat. Has he not left yet?"
"No, I haven't seen him yet. It's not like him to leave my out of the loop of what's happening."
"Last I saw, he went to his room. I assume to get ready."
"Well, we should check on him, make sure he doesn't need help," Kiki suggested.
"That's a good idea, let's go."
They set of to the emperor's bedroom, the one place that was strictly off limits.
On the way, Kiki asked, "Do you know what it means to have that badge that you have, Luzura?"
"No, I was kinda hoping you could tell me?"
"That badge that you have around your neck is the highest form of distinguishment among anyone within the Emperor's Coven, outside the Emperor himself, of course. The fact that he gave that to you in such a short time of being here astounds me, because it really must mean he trusts your ability to run the place in his absence.
Kiki continued, "There have been several times when I have felt I deserve it, but he wouldn't give it to me. I see why now. It's all apart of the Titan's will. It's His will, and nothing can deter it from what it should be."
"You know, I didn't ask for this. It was just kind of handed to me. I don't know how to run this place."
Before Luzura could finish her statement, they arrived at Emperor Belos' bedroom.
*Knock knock*
"My liege?" Kiki asked, but with no response.
"Emperor Belos?" Luzura asked after a few seconds of silence, but still no response.
They opened the door carefully out of concern, only to see that he wasn't even in there!
"Well, that kinda sucks. Where could he have gone?" Luzura asked.
"I…don't know, honestly," was all that Kiki could say.
Back at the Owl House:
Hooty was in tears after hearing the news of what happened with Luz.
"If that's what happened, we should try and see what caused her to turn," King said, determined not to lose Luz forever. The rest chattered in agreement. Before long, they were all packing, getting ready to see what had caused Luz to just change like that.
