CONTEXT:
Gogy subconsciously uses XD as a surrogate dream. But eventually XD gets a little too attached wanting only George to himself. One day George accidentally slips up and calls him just dream not XD, forgetting that he hates to be associated with Dream. George finally finds out why.
"What are we doing today George?" XD asked quietly as he admired the petite brunette in front of him. George was mindlessly playing with the flower next to him in the grass.
"Not sure," George said quietly. George had taken a large comfort in XD lately. He had been the only person he felt comfortable with nowadays with Dream in prison.
"Do you like that flower, George?" XD was always willing to do anything for George. No matter what he asked of him, he would do it. George was his, and only his. Sometimes that scared George, sometimes it made him want to leave. But he knew he never could, it would only end badly. So George played along, calling XD a friend and constantly confirming that he was only his.
The scary thought was that George DID consider him a friend. But that didn't eliminate the fear that went with it.
"I do like the flower. I wish there were more around here like it. It's my favorite color after all."
"Well, then all you had to do was ask," George's breath was caught in his throat as he looked around him. The once empty plain was now covered in blue cornflowers. George was shocked and flattered, he had barely any control over what he said next.
"Thank you, it's beautiful, Dream." Suddenly XD's proud smile faltered, his aura becoming violent and threatening. Not at all like it was before.
"What did you just call me?" Suddenly the flowers were gone, each and every one of them burning to the ground. George watched as the embers rose and the fire spread around the dry plain, only then had he noticed his mistake.
"XD. I meant to say XD."
"Why are you even thinking about him, George? You're mine." XD grabbed George by his jaw viciously with his hand. He brought George closer to him and George could feel the anger radiating off of him.
"You're right. I'm yours. Only yours. Not his. I promise it won't happen again." XD let go of him lazily. Just as the fire grew larger XD made it disappear with a wave of his hand. He let his hand fall to his side.
"I'm sorry George. I was angry." He looked up at him. "You know I love you, George?"
George bit back his tears, rubbing his jaw to relieve the ache XD had caused. "Of course I do."
"Of course I know you love me," George forced a smile. Trying to mask the fear that was overflowing his body.
George remembered now, sometimes he had always forgotten. XD was a God but sometimes he acted like a demon.
XD took a step closer and George fought the urge to take a step back. He planted his feet in the ground not wanting anger XD anymore.
XD caressed George's cheek with the back of his fingers. Moving from his cheekbone to his jaw gently. "Because we both know that nothing good will come of that slip-up, right?"
George nodded, he didn't even want to know what havoc XD could cause. "Of Course," George gulped.
"Don't make me get rid of that little pest that you seem so attached to, alright? I don't want any more blood on my hands, but for you? I will do anything to remind you of being mine." George had never seen this side of XD. This possessive and violent side of him was something very new to him. Granted, George knew this part of him existed, he had just never seen it in action.
It was terrifying, and George was absolutely horrified.
"Yes. Of course, XD."
Suddenly, XD smiled. His eyes growing bright and warm.
Just like how Dream would smile.
And then it struck George. Of course, their appearances were similar, they were made in the same image. Dream had been just like XD once, he had been a power-hungry and bloodthirsty divine being. But then Dream fell, he was no longer the God he was created to be. Because he had given up his power for humanity, he had become a human for his friends, he gave up being a God for mortals, to become one himself. To fall in love with one. To become best friend's with one.
But XD? Never. He was still attached to George, he was all XD cared about. But he didn't feel the things that normal humans did. He had fixations, infatuations with the humans; with George. But no, he was nothing like Dream. He didn't love George as Dream did. But George could see it, XD wanted to. He wanted to be able to love. But he never would be able to and that's where George came into play.
XD was made as a replacement for Dream, merely a creation to surrogate a God he would never be able to live up to.
XD was compared to Dream in George's eyes and the universe's.
That's why he hated the association.
A small part of him hurt for XD, but the other part was scared to be around him. How much longer until he cracked? How much longer until this infatuation with George was over and XD finally realized that he was incapable of love.
George had to get away.
He had to get to Dream. He had to get to his best friend.
"I'm so glad you understand, George." Tears were spilling from XD's eyes now and George bit the inside of his cheek in discomfort. He had to get away, he knew now that this had gone too far. He realized that he was in danger now.
"Because if you didn't, I don't know what I'd do. I don't know how I'd react." XD brushed a strand of hair behind George's ear causing a small shudder from the smaller male. XD inspected him with narrowed eyes due to that. He tilted George's chin upward so their eyes could meet.
"What I'd do to you, do to dream?" He said the other's name like it was poison; toxic. "We wouldn't want that."
"Of course not."
"Good." XD planted a kiss on the other's cheek and walked off. "Good night, Georgie."
And when XD was finally gone for the night George stalked off into the darkness. Finally coming to a tall towering building that was noticeable no matter the hour.
George grit his teeth when he met the eyes of a man.
"Sam." George said. Sam narrowed his eyes.
"I need to see Dream."
