One year later, present
Today was the day! After patiently waiting (some not so patient) for a year, it was finally time for the Amun Academic Boarding School students to hop on a plane to Minnesota. The morning of their flight, the students were so excited they couldn't even eat their favorite breakfast foods.
"Kids, I know you're excited, but you mustn't go hungry," Trudy insisted. "It's gonna be a long journey until we get to Palm Woods Academy."
"Sorry Trudes," said Amber, picking at her cereal. "I just can't stop thinking about going on this exchange program."
"I know Amber, it is really exciting," said Trudy.
After breakfast (or rather the lack of), the students went to collect their luggage and headed onto the bus for the airport.
"I can't believe it! We're going to America!" Jerome expressed his excitement.
After spending the previous day exploring Minneapolis, the Amun students were ready to head on to Palm Woods Academy.
"Are we there yet?" asked Alfie.
"We just left," Nina pointed out, rolling her eyes.
For the next two hours, the Amun students killed time by playing games, watching movies, and just chatting with each other on the bus.
Meanwhile, at Palm Woods Academy, the boys and their friends gathered by the main entrance while holding up "welcome" signs and patiently waited for the exchange students from England, who would be arriving in a bit.
"How great is this? We get exchange students this semester, and we go over to England next semester?" asked Kendall.
"I know right?" said Logan. "Sounds like a fun cultural experience."
"I still can't believe we got a partner school all the way in England!" James commented.
"I wish I was old enough to be partnered with someone," said Katie. "This looks fun."
"Are they here yet?" asked Carlos.
"Soon," said Mrs. Knight.
Just then, a coach bus pulled into the parking lot, and students began getting off and unloading.
"Welcome to Palm Woods Academy!" the local students loudly greeted.
"Okay, once you have gathered your belongings, go look for your exchange partners," Trudy announced.
The Amun Boarding School students looked over the list and began looking for the right nametags. Patricia looked for her partner, but she was nowhere to be found. The dark redhead looked over the list multiple times, making sure she was in the right place, but no one seemed to have "Josephine" or "Jo" written on their nametags.
"Trudy, I can't find my partner," said the dark redhead. "I'm partnered with Josephine Taylor, but she also goes by Jo."
Trudy looked at the students and saw that everyone already seemed to be paired up.
"Excuse me everyone!" Trudy announced. "Is Josephine Taylor here?"
"Oh I'm sorry," said Mrs. Knight. "Jo's currently in New Zealand filming a movie, well, three movies. It was kind of sudden and no one else signed up for the exchange program so we weren't able to find Patricia an exchange partner on time."
"Oh right!" Patricia remembered. "Jo's gonna be starring in the new Chauncey Jackson films."
"Filming three films?" asked Trudy. "Like, you mean, Josephine's an actress? That's so cool!"
"Well, we are a talented school," said Mrs. Knight. "The boys actually just returned from their national tour."
"That's wonderful!" said Trudy.
"So, since Jo's not here, what's my partner arrangement gonna be like?" asked Patricia
"Well actually, my daughter Katie would love to be your partner," said Mrs. Knight.
"I do?" asked Katie.
"Yes, you do," Mrs. Knight insisted.
"Wonderful," said Patricia. "But what about school hours since my partner has to be my guide?"
"I'll ask Camille and Amber if it's okay that you join them," Mrs. Knight responded and called the two girls over.
"Of course," Camille insisted. "The more the merrier. Welcome to Palm Woods Academy, Patricia."
"Okay, now that you've found your partners and introduced yourselves, we're gonna drop off our belongings in our rooms, have a quick meeting in the living room, and then we will take a tour of the campus," said Trudy.
"Follow me," said Mrs. Knight.
...
"Welcome to Fellows House," said Mrs. Knight, as she opened the door and lead the students inside. "Boys on the second floor, girls on the third. Come collect your keys here."
After the Amun students moved in, they gathered with their exchange partners and did a quick tour of the dorm house before heading to the living room.
"Okay everyone!" said Mrs. Knight. "Like I said, welcome to Fellows House. This will be your dorm house for your entire stay here at Palm Woods Academy. I am Mrs. Knight, your house mother, so if you have any questions or concerns, you can knock on my door, which is over there. As some of you may know from our last name, I'm also Kendall and Katie's mom."
Upon hearing their names, Kendall and Katie waved at the exchange students.
Mrs. Knight finished her introduction and handed the exchange students each a packet of important school and dorm information. After going over the basic house rules, Mrs. Knight and Trudy instructed the students to introduce themselves.
"Hi, I'm Nina, and I'm from Cleveland, Ohio."
"I'm Fabian, and I play the guitar."
"I'm Patricia, and I love solving mysteries."
"My name's Amber, and I love shoes."
"I'm Mick, and I am currently training for a scholarship for a summer program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison."
"I'm Mara, and I can speak French."
"My name's Jerome, and I like pranking people."
"I'm Alfie, and I can do magic."
"I'm Joy, and my favorite movie is Twilight."
"I'm Eddie, and I'm from New Jersey."
"I'm Emily, and I would like to be an actress someday."
"My name's Charlie and I would like to play for Liverpool F.C."
"I'm Tom, and I'm already loving Minnesota."
After the students introduced themselves, Mrs. Knight and Trudy let the students socialize among themselves.
"Oh, and dinner is in an hour," Mrs. Knight reminded.
"Sweet! What's Mrs. Knight making for dinner?" asked Alfie.
"Uh, she's not making dinner tonight," said Kendall.
"What do you mean she's not making dinner tonight?" asked Mick. "What are we supposed to eat?"
"Uh, whatever they're serving in the dining hall?" said Carlos, sounding confused.
"So, you guys eat in a dining hall?" said Patricia. "What's the kitchen for then?"
"Oh, well, sometimes Mrs. Knight makes dinner for us, usually on Friday nights or weekends, but other times, we use it to cook together for fun, or Mrs. Knight makes us treats," said Camille. "And home ec students also use it for cooking practice."
"That's cool," said Nina. "We eat all our meals in our dorm house. We don't have a dining hall on campus."
