I do not own RWBY or any other franchises that I may be mentioning or taking inspiration from.

Ok, first things first. I got over 200 views within the first DAY. Like what the heck. I want to thank you all for reading this and to all that have commented, favourited and followed thank you.

Replies:

Write this fool: thank you sooooo much. I am very surprised that anyone would be willing to write a review of that length on my fic, but I will try to edit it and maybe get someone to proofread it. Thanks!

Now if this fic gains enough traction I may be doing a vote on how to format a few things, and I will probably ask you guys what you are liking about my fic or what you aren't. (I'll also try to tone down the self monologue)

If you guys want to have a system or item/skill from another source just ask me and I may try to include it.

Sorry for that being so long. Thank you for reading.

Chapter 2—

"Fuck you" I scream at the blue box as it closes in front of me. A five-minute timer appears in my notifications area highlighting how screwed I am. I know that I need to get some skills or find a weapon somewhere to stand a chance at surviving whatever this world's monstrosities are.

'Skills' I think hoping for at least something to be shown there.

Interacting with an object with hands as one of its gathering implements will immediately begin harvesting applicable resources from that object and depositing them immediately into your inventory.

End of List

As I am reading throughout the text I am painfully aware of the clock ticking down. I realise that a hatchet would be able to be used as a weapon so I started scrambling around trying to find what the system classified as stones, wood, twine and flint.

The ground has a few small rocks which I observe resulting in a notification appearing.

Stone

Known Gathering Implements: Hand.

Used in crafting, and can be used as a weak ranged weapon in a dire situation.

Why didn't I think of this? The stones could be used to damage the monster from a range meaning that I can attack it while staying out of harm's way.

I begin to run around the clearing using sprint as I go trying to level it up. Soon I managed to find 15 stones which as I picked them up were immediately transported into my inventory. I had a small panic attack at this but I found I was able to summon them from my inventory if I envision the stones in my hand.

Next up twine. The timer is down to 3 minutes remaining which means that getting my hatchet will be difficult. Remembering my small time spent in scouts I immediately went towards a bush and observed it.

Bush

Known Gathering Implements: Hand.

This is a simple bush but you can find many important resources from it including:

Plant Fibres: can be used to make twine and can be used in some alchemical recipes.

Berries: can yield a few different types of berries, some poisonous and some that give benefits.

Immediately grabbing onto the bush a harvesting icon appears above it while a slow stream of Berries and Plant Fibres flow into my inventory. I let go of the bush as it fades out of existence.

I check my Inventory as I rush around observing everything that I can see.

Inventory

Consumables:

Blood Berry (E): 2

Sky Berry (E): 1

Life Berry (E): 3

True Berry (E): 1

(Selecting each item will open its attributes and information)

Crafting Materials:

Plant Fibres (E): 23

Stone (E): 15

When I see the number of plant fibres I have I think of 'primitive crafting' causing a menu to appear in front of my eyes.

Primitive Crafting

Available Recipes:

Twine (E) (10 seconds): 2 Plant Fibers (23).

Recipes:

Primitive Campfire (E+) (5 minutes): 5 Wood (0), 10 Stones (15).

Primitive Hatchet (E+) (2 Minutes): 2 Wood (0), 5 Twine (0), 1 Stone (15).

Primitive Shovel (E+) (2 Minutes): 3 Wood (0), 1 Stone (15).

When I press on the twine a bar appears under it and I start to move slower but it seems like it's crafting it inside my inventory. This allows me to move around, albeit slower but I can still look for the wood needed for the hatchet.

My eyes search across the clearing searching for any sticks to pick up. I see some lying on the ground and rush to pick them up and the relatively straight stick remains in my hand. Using observe on the piece of wood just over a meter long stick results in a window crushing my hopes.

Stick

This is a small piece of wood that can be used as a weapon in a pinch. Sometimes used as crafting ingredients

Damage: Str/2+5 (10)

Durability: 50

May inflict: Concussed

Realising that I would need to get a larger piece of wood I start running towards the edge of the clearing. Amidst the panting of my breath, a loud 'Ding!' interrupts the solitude of the forest.

Skill Level Up!

Sprinting has levelled up!

Sprint – Lvl 2 (2%):

Cost Sp/sec: 100-(End/2)-(Sprint Lvl*2) (91)

Can be used while running to increase movement speed by =75+(Sprint Lvl*5)+Agi % (95%)

The notification comes in the middle of one of my bursts of sprinting and I detect a noticeable difference in speed, although not by much.

While I am running I am spamming observe at my surroundings and as I pass by a tree a new notification appears.

The Lyriad Tree (Tree of Deception)

Known Gathering Implements: Hand, Axe.

The Lyriad Tree is one of the Five Great Trees which guard the forest and the animals living inside it. The lyriad tree has so far remained largely undiscovered by humanity due to its leaves creating an illusion from the air, but ancient civilisations once worshipped the five great trees leaving documentation on its history and capabilities.

Wood (E): Is gathered from the fallen branches of this massive tree. Can be used in many crafting recipes.

Shimmering Wood (B): This material is harvested from the trunk of this tree. Can be used on weapons to provide a unique effect. also used in high-level alchemy.

Fading Bark (B): This material requires great strength to gather because you will need to pull it directly from the trunk of this tree. Can be used in armour to provide unique effects. also used in high-level alchemy. Needs strength (50)

Deep Leaves (B): To acquire this resource one must gather the leaves at the very top of the tree. This is used in alchemy and can be added to armours to increase its attunement to nature, and also provides unique effects. can also be added to most alchemical recipes to provide varied effects.

Wild Roots (B+): This material is found underground, in the roots of this massive tree. Can be added to most equipment to increase its nature attunement and also produce many unique effects. Can also be used in high-level alchemy

Lyriad Fruit (A): The lyriad fruit is also known as 'The Fruit of a Thousand Hopefull Deaths'. This fruit is said to be able to heal any wound, or disease and give a permanent boost to the eater's physique and mental capabilities, but for every one of these fruits, there are a thousand identical fruits that will instantly kill the eater.

Skill Level Up X2!

Observe – Lvl 3 (56%):

Cost: Free

Time to cast: 0.5 seconds

Targeting an object, enemy, ally, or virtually anything else there will be a notification containing information dependent on the relative level of the skill compared to the target's level.

Precise effects can be found (Here)

"Holy Shit!" I lean back and tilt my head up and see that the tree that I am standing right next to towers over its surroundings. Many pinkish-red fruits are hanging in clusters amongst the branches that are thicker than normal trees. The leaves are shimmering and the bark is fading in and out of existence letting me see the glowing silver wood underneath the thick shell. The fact that observe levelled up three times makes me think that the rarity of this tree made it level up my observe skill much more than stones and bushes did.

Immediately I look around searching for the wood that said could be harvested around it. I see a stick and rush over to it hoping that it would count, And it did! The large stick dissolves and my inventory suddenly has a piece of wood in it.

I start to look for more finding one near it half-buried in a pile of leaves. I grab it and I look at my timer seeing that I have only 1 minute and 53 seconds left. My finger flashes across the screen as I rush to craft the primitive hatchet.

Looking back at the tree I realise that I would be able to climb into its branches at throw rocks at whatever monstrosity this world has in store for me. I walk over to the tree and walk around the broad base of the tree looking for the easiest way to scale up the side of it. I decided to see what comes out of the bush and then make a decision whether it would be smart to climb up into its low hanging branches because I wouldn't like to be trapped 5 meters in the air when a bird that can eat me whole comes swooping in at me.

While the axe is crafting I try to find any stones possible just so that I have extra ammunition. Opening my inventory I tap on stones to find out how much damage they will do.

Info

Stones:

Amount: 28

Known Gathering Implements: Hand.

Used in crafting, and can be used as a weak ranged weapon in a dire situation.

Damage: (Strength/2)+(Throwing Damage Multiplier*2) (8)

Throwing Speed: 3/Throwing Speed Multiplier (4)

Because it is a heavy lump of rock it is relatively slow to throw but if you are strong enough you can deal a lot of damage. May inflict concussed, confused. Can also be used as a distraction.

I lean back against the tree and stare at the timer ticking down. 50, 49, 48. The numbers flash before my eyes I deepen my breathing and get ready to fight. However, when my breathing finally slowed down a loud notification roused me from my trance.

New Skill

Meditation – Lvl 1 (0%):

This skill makes the user enter a deep trance-like state wherein they will improve the recovery rate of Mp, Hp and Sp. This skill also brings the downside that you will find it difficult to be woken by mundane means and sometimes you will only become conscious after the danger has come.

Recovery multiplier (percentage increase): (Wis + Int)/2 + Meditation lvl*5 (15.5% increase)

As the timer ticks down I realise that the endless chirping of birds has stilled. I glance up at the timer and find 10 seconds remaining. I look at my crafting menu and see that it has 15 seconds left.

I start planning and walk slightly around the tree about five meters from the lowest branch I could find. Readying a stone in my right hand and my stick in the left.

A shuffling appears from the underbrush to my left, the shrubs shaking their leaves and the cracking of branches signify a large animal shuffling around behind it.

I ready my stone preparing to throw lean back step forward and then release. The stone flies straight towards the bush and in my top right is an image with a stone with the number 4 in front of it.

The rock flies through the leaves and with a crack it flies out to the side. This is followed by a squeal and a loud thumping. I ready another stone preparing to throw when all of a sudden a white mask thunders out of the shrub, its red eyes leaving a trail as its small legs churn, racing towards me with its formidable tusks.

Leaping out of the way I circle the tree trying to place the pitch-black skin, with a bone mask and glowing red eyes. I continue to run around the tree and I start to hear a shattering of bark as the tusks of what I could best describe as a demonic boar.

The sound is getting louder and louder as I count the steps until I find my low hanging branch.

The tree feels much larger while running for my life. The panting of my breaths pierces through the pursuer's steps with my legs burning from the strain of running this fast in a small body.

As I am running I think about my axe after I realise that it should have finished by now. I glance at my stamina and realise that it is almost empty and decide to turn around and try to juke out the boar.

Pushing away from the tree I leap away from the edge and ready my axe and start turning around towards the boar. I jump in surprise as I see that the boar… is rolling? I almost laugh at this but then I realise that it is coming towards me much quicker than I would expect.

Imagining a rock nestled in the palm of my hand, a stone appears in the exact position I imagined. Winding up, I throw it and prepare my axe for if the boar gets knocked off its path.

The rock slams against the beast and it squeals once more as it gets thrown to the ground by its momentum. I leap forwards and ready my axe to swing as I observe it.

Juvenile Boarbatusk – (Lvl 5 Mob)

One of the basic creatures of Grimm, however, this is a juvenile only a few weeks after leaving the Grimm pools in the wilds it has been following a trace of a scent. This type of Grimm largely uses its mass and the sharp tusks to gore and crush any enemies. This strategy is only made more effective with the unique skill of being able to roll at high speeds using its bony plates as spikes to latch onto flesh and any ground nearby and manipulating the Grimmfluid inside of its body to propel itself.

'Oh shit I'm in RWBY' I think as I leap towards the boarbatusk with my small axe in hand.

I bring it down upon its back while trying to channel all the force in my body… and then some more, into the head of the hatchet.

New Skill Discovered

Power strike – Lvl 1 (24%)

This skill allows you to put much more power into a single strike increasing the damage and force of the blow. This can also be used in specific types of harvesting.

Damage Multiplier: Power Strike Lvl/5 + 1 + Str/20 (1.7)

Sp cost: 50 - Vit/4 -Power Strike Lvl * 2 (70.5)

The blade swings down just to the side of its plated spine. Flesh gets torn off the side of it as it slides through the gaps between the armour. I glance at the health trying to find out how much damage I have dealt to it.

Juvenile Boarbatusk

HP: 251.8/300

Debuffs: Bleeding, Confused

Once I read the bleeding area on the stats I realise that a dense sticky fluid is draining from the sizeable gash in its hide, coating the ground in something thicker than blood. Jumping away I see that there is a steady drain of 5Hp a second.

Deciding to wait it out and see if it continues to bleed I start jogging to my low hanging branch. I start to speed up and activate sprint as I hear the snorting and rustling of leaves as well as the squelch of blood.

I continue running in bursts of speed as I hear the creature get back on its feet and start charging at me. Envisioning the tusks impaled through my back I start trying to find a way to delay it when another notification arrives.

Skill level up

Sprinting has levelled up!

Sprint – Lvl 3 (1%):

Cost Sp/sec: 100-(Vit/2)-(Sprint Lvl*2) (89)

Can be used while running to increase movement speed by =75+(Sprint Lvl*5)+Agi% (103%)

Looking through my inventory I see the consumable section and find the berries that were harvested from the bush. Thinking about eating the Sky Berry an alert appears asking if I want to eat said berry.

I rush to press 'yes' realising that this might give me the boost I need to outpace the boarbatusk. Surprised at the slight boost in movement speed I start to move slightly faster. I think that increasing agility also increases base movement speed as well as the sprinting skill.

After another stressful few seconds of running on the decomposing leaves, I see the low hanging branch. But knowing that the boarbatusk is right behind me I realise that I need another method of gaining ground.

Thinking about a rock a stone appears in my hand. I drop it and see it sink slightly into the forest floor, however, nothing happens as the boar seems to roll right over it. Only to hear a slight crunch as it gets dug into the leaf litter.

The boar is catching up. I can hear its breath on my heels. Sticks and mud are pelting my back. Yet the end is in sight. Ten meters, 9 meters, it's less than 1 meter behind. 5 meters I activate sprint once again pulling just ahead of it. 3 meters I take a long step and push off with all my strength.

The feeling of hot breath on my ankle as it sinks into the mud only to come flying out of it truly showed how close I was to dying. But I tear free from the ground, leaving the boar slightly behind its murderous red eyes flashing past while its trying to stop. But to no avail, the boar continues to slide as I hang from the branch.

Pulling myself up I toss my leg over the branch and climb up a few. The feel of the ethereal bark is strange underneath my young hands. But after a minute of climbing, I look back to find that I have gained a staggering amount of height

Looking down through the branches I see the boarbatusk shuffling around the base of the tree just underneath the branch I climbed.

"Wait." I mutter into thin air "Gravity exists, will it transfer to the gamer system?" Realising this and muttering prayers to random gods from fiction and real life, I summon a stone and positioning it just above its head I fling it towards the beast.

The stone falls crashing through some leaves and dry branches, barely slowing the rock down on its path straight to the back of the monster. A second later a loud 'Crack!' reverberates around the forest as it slams into the back of it and pushes it into the muddy ground.

Juvenile Boarbatusk – (Lvl 5 Mob)

HP: 148/300

Debuffs: Confused, Immobile, stunned.

Looking at the beasts spine it seems to have caved in slightly from the force of the blow creating a slight bowl shaped area in its bony plating. Reaching back I ready another stone and launch it towards it to a similar result, the sick squelch of the rock breaking through bone and flesh follows the sudden end of the whistle of its murderous trajectory.

Skill Level Up!

Throwing Has levelled up!

Throw – Lvl 2 (7%):

This skill allows you to throw many items and thrown weapons.

Cost Sp/throw: 50 - Throw level (48)

Cool-down multiplier: Throw Lvl/4 + Dex/20 (1)

Damage Multiplier: Throw Lvl/5 + Str/10) (1.4)

Repeating this process with my upgraded throw gives me a damage of 33. I continue to send the stones on their murderous path while watching the health of the monster drop steadily with each hit.

After 4 More hits the health bar finally bottoms out. A second later the carcass starts to dissolve into a fine ash that flies away on the slight breeze.

Okay.

Super sorry that this got out so late, I didn't expect my family to start dragging me out of the house as much as they did this week. Also I continued to go back through my work changing some things which took a decent amount of time. Believe it or not the Lyriad tree went through 5 or 6 changes over my time writing this.

But all that stuff behind. 3700 words. That is INSANE (At least for me). I never expected to be writing this much on the second chapter. So how was my first time attempting to write a combat scenario. Was it good, horrible or just too long.

Some of the things I want to know is if you guys want any mechanics from other games, movies, animes or books. I am currently looking towards an armour and weapon system similar to Monster Hunter World (you should play it) but I am missing some finer details to how the magic works in this fic, wether you want it to be stereotypical Gamer magic or something new.

Leave reviews or PM me if you want to suggest or change something.

Thank you for reading! Have a nice day.
