Disclaimer: I do NOT own Avengers, just my own OC.
It was over. Tony had used the power of the Infinity Stones to wipe out Thanos and his army. Although, he had sacrificed his own life in doing so.
But he wasn't the only one.
Let me introduce myself first.
My name's Abigail, but call me Abby.
How did I end up on the battlefield against Thanos? It's a rather long story. So, I'll summarize it as best as I can.
I had a simple and content life growing up. I even had a great friend named Monica Rambeau. Although she was a couple of years older than me, she was still an amazing friend.
I think my life changed the moment I met her mom's best friend, the one and only Carol Danvers.
I was thirteen when she was visiting her best friend while I came over to hang out with Monica. I heard the stories of how incredible a pilot Carol was and I'm still in awe of what she was able to do. Hearing it from the very woman herself was just beyond words. When it came time for her to leave, she gave me a special device that allowed me to keep in touch with her, helping her stay up to date on everything that was happening on Earth.
A year passed and I took notice of all the things that were bringing heroes forth. Like the big changes Tony Stark made in his company and the spotting of strange events that occurred in a small town in the middle of nowhere. I of course let Carol know of these things.
By sheer coincidence, I was in New York when the attack happened. My parents and I were visiting a family friend that day. While my parents were still catching up with their friend, I had gone out for a walk and noticed the portal opening above Stark Tower. Like everyone, I stopped to watch what was going on. Chaos erupted when the aliens attacked.
Among the running and screaming, my mom somehow found me. The two of us ran through the streets, trying to find a place to hide. We were running across a bridge when I tripped and fell. I looked back just as one of the aliens was running at me. A gunshot rang out, causing me to cover my head with my arms. After a second, I looked to see the alien fall. I was helped up by someone, who turned out to be Black Widow. She helped me back to my mother and told us to keep running as Hawkeye joined her.
We were hiding in an alley when a nearby car exploded from the aliens' lasers. I got up only to find that my mom wasn't moving. She used herself as a human shield to protect me from the explosion. She looked at me and gave me one last kiss on my head, telling me to always have a strong yet kind heart with her last breath. I sat in the alley holding her close to me as I sobbed.
Being one of the first people to be found once the battle was over, I was reunited with my dad who comforted me from the loss of his wife.
It took time, almost a year for me to get over her death. I slowly got back to being my old self. What really helped me recover were her last words to me and I made a promise to honor those words.
I was with my dad at the Vienna Accords conference when I lost him. He was a photographer and I was there after I had gone out to hang out with a friend, and to thank the woman who had saved me. He was right next to the window when the explosion hit.
T'Challa approached me after he spoke with his dying father. He had the paramedics check on me then left his bodyguard, Okoye to watch over me. The warrior herself saw how broken I was as I cried over the loss of my parents. She comforted me, telling me that my parents didn't die in vain and that they would want me to keep living.
Upon returning, T'Challa spoke with Okoye. After they spoke for a minute, he approached me. He asked me if I had anywhere to go and when I told him no, he asked if I wanted to go with him. Wanting to get stronger for both my parents, I agreed.
Arriving in Wakanda, I was absolutely amazed at what I saw. I met the Queen Regent and the princess, Shuri. Shuri seemed excited to have me around, since I was the same age as her. The Queen welcomed me with open arms.
Once T'Challa returned from helping Captain America, he told me why he allowed me to come to Wakanda.
"Although you were mourning for your father, I could see the fire in your eyes," he said. "You want to get stronger and stronger not just for your parents, but for yourself as well. Not many people have that drive and desire that you have. And I have brought you here to grant that wish. If, that is, you want it to be."
Almost immediately, I agreed.
And so, I was trained by Okoye and Wakanda's royal guard. Being a quick learner, I excelled in my training and earned a place among the Dora Milaje. T'Challa gave me the position of being Shuri's bodyguard and he allowed me to keep my hair instead of shaving it all off.
Although I was her bodyguard, Shuri treated me as a friend rather than someone who was supposed to keep an eye on her. Whenever we were in her lab, we would talk about the latest trends in the world outside Wakanda. Of course I had to be a guard whenever Okoye gave me a look whenever we were out in public.
When T'Challa's cousin revealed himself, I stayed close to Shuri, knowing that the man wanted to do something that would bring problems to the world. I followed Nakia when she snuck off and found that she had gone to the lower caves to retrieve a pod from the heart-shaped herb. I did the same when I saw that Kilmonger was having the council members burn all the flowers. I hoped that once this man was taken down, there would be a chance to plant more of these flowers for future generations.
Upon returning with the true king of Wakanda before his big appearance, Shuri gave me a special weapon. It was like a staff, but when separated into two parts, they extend a little and become dual blades. She made them from vibranium and gave them the same kinetic energy build up feature just like the suit T'Challa wore.
I stayed by Shuri's side during the battle, watching her back as she used her gauntlets to blast away her opponents in front of her. I had hoped to fight the man who tried to kill T'Challa, but knew that the king himself would take care of it.
Soon, the battle was over.
Once everything was back to normal, aside from Wakanda being shared with the world, the king brought me forth. He decreed that I would be the leader of a new group of warriors who would travel around the world to make sure trades with Wakanda are dealt with peacefully, and to protect people when we can. It was a great honor and I would make him proud.
After gathering a small group of women and training them with the help of Okoye and the rest of the royal guard, we set off. We traveled all over the world, saving people where the Avengers could not, helping Wakanda peacefully trade with other countries, and spreading our name everywhere. The name of our small group was League.
Soon, we were asked to return to Wakanda. The Avengers needed help for an upcoming battle against a threat not of this world. We returned as quickly as we could, arriving a few days before the Avengers themselves did. We were welcomed back with open arms, almost like a hero's return.
T'Challa caught us up with the situation and we were prepared for the battle. However, T'Challa asked me to watch over Shuri once again, which I was more than happy to agree to. As I kept watch, I met Wanda Maximoff. She was there to keep watch over Vision, who she seemed to have feelings for and who was also in possession of the Mind Stone.
When the large wheels of saws came out, Wanda left to help her friends. Shortly after, the lab was attacked by one of Thanos's followers. I had Shuri keep working as I fought him off, but was casted off after a few blocks. I shook my head to clear it once I heard glass breaking. I immediately went to Shuri to make sure she was okay. A few minutes later, I felt this burst of power come from the forest. It didn't feel right.
Shuri suddenly collapsed and I caught her. I had to watch in horror as she faded into dust right in my arms. Sitting there, I stared at the dust that was now on the floor.
It took weeks for things to come down from chaos and confusion. Once things were sort of in order, I took what was remaining of my team and we went out into the world to help those who needed it.
During our travels during the five years, the League gained more members. We met women from all around the world, who wanted to join us for the people they lost. Training them was surprisingly easy, seeing as how determined they were to join.
The League and I were in America when I felt a burst of energy. It felt similar to the one back during the battle in Wakanda, but this one felt as if it was giving life. We all witnessed people appear out of nowhere around us.
Before we could help, I received word through communications from T'Challa himself, to go through a portal that would form near us. Thanos was back and the Avengers needed everyone to fight. The women and I were all too eager. Once the portal opened, we walked through, weapons at the ready.
During the battle, I found myself in the line of Thanos, who was about to make a run for the Infinity Stones. I stood next to Wanda when she landed. The two of us fought off the Mad Titan, to give the others time.
When the call for Rain Fire came from Thanos, I was thrown off my feet and landed near one of the wizards who formed a shield overhead to protect the people around. I got to my feet to watch the giant ship get taken down by Carol, who brought a smile upon my face, knowing that the battle was now turning in our favor.
As the battle continued, I was on my own, fighting off as many of Thanos's forces as I could.
I had just cleared a small group around me when I felt something blast me and sent me flying. The pain was so great that I didn't dare move after landing. But once I did, I sensed the burst again and watched as the enemy turned to dust.
I was lying back on a pile of debris, a gaping wound going right through my abdomen. I just sat there watching the sad scene unfold not too far away. I could not stop the tears that flowed in sorrow for the great hero.
After he gave his last breath, Carol was the one who noticed me. Her eyes widened and she scrambled to her feet to get to me. She fell to her knees beside me. She gently placed a hand on my head and the other on my hand that was below the wound. Okoye knelt on the other side of me.
"How could I let this happen?" Carol whispered as tears ran down her face for me.
"Don't blame yourself," I said. "It was my choice to come and fight." I let out a wry laugh. "I just can't believe I didn't get to do the things I wanted to do."
"Like what?" Okoye asked gently.
"Well, for one, I never got to experience my first kiss. Or go to my first concert." I began to cough. "I never… *cough*… had the chance to… *cough*… go to prom…" I trailed off as I let out my last breath.
Carol closed my eyes and pressed her forehead against my own as she cried, while Okoye bowed her head to cry silently.
Just then, the Infinity Stones began to move on their own. The Avengers remained where they were as the stones floated off Tony's hand towards Carol. Captain Marvel stopped sobbing when they noticed the gems floating towards my body. The stones floated just a foot away from my body.
Everyone watched as the Infinity Stones began to glow brightly. The six stones formed a ring and began to rotate clockwise, growing brighter and brighter. Both women quickly moved back when a beam of white light burst out from the stones towards me.
A white aura surrounded my body. Carol backed away as my body was engulfed by the same light. Everyone covered their eyes or looked away as the light continued to grow brighter.
As the light began to fade, they looked towards me again. Everyone's eyes widened as they saw the wound closing, the edges drawing towards each other by a white light. The stones stopped spinning and revealed a white stone glowing in the center of the ring. The six stones fell to the ground while the seemingly new one floated towards me. It set itself in the center of my chest and seemed to sink into me.
Once the wound was closed and the glow of the stones vanished, I gasped and snapped my eyes open. Carol rushed over to me as I tried to catch my breath. I turned my head to her and we both checked for the wound.
It was completely gone.
"How is this possible?" Okoye whispered.
"I believe the better question is why did the stones save her and not Tony?" Thor said.
"Because it was his choice to sacrifice his life," a wise voice spoke.
We all looked around for the source. The clouds and dust began to swirl together in the empty space we were in. Once it was in the shape of a cloaked figure, the clouds and dust stopped.
The Avengers stood ready to fight.
"I have no intention of fighting," the stranger said.
"Who are you?" Captain asked.
"I am the one who created the Infinity Stones," he said.
"If that is true, then why did you create something that causes mass destruction?!" Thor said angrily.
"They were not made for that intention," the stranger said calmly. "I created them to choose those worthy to help others in need. The ones chosen have pure intentions to bring justice to those who have wrought evil." He turned his head to the wizard. "Take Doctor Strange, for example. He has used the Time Stone to stop Dormammu and his followers when the world was in danger." He looked towards the Captain. "Your ally, Vision, was another prime example of pure intentions, the Mind Stone was wielded by him alone when its true power was unlocked. His worth was shown when he was able to pick up the Asgardian hammer."
"But why did they seem to create a new stone and merge with her?" Strange asked, pointing to me.
"They have seen the light in her heart and soul from both the past and the future." He turned his head to me. "She has been chosen by the Stones to become the Guardian."
"'Guardian'? What in Bast's name is that?" asked Okoye.
"She will be the one who will protect the multiverse and fix things when the timelines are disrupted."
"If that's even possible, then she will have to travel through hundreds, if not thousands of worlds, to take care of that," Strange pointed out.
"She is capable. She doesn't have to take care of all the timelines immediately."
I stood up with Carol's help.
"What do I have to do?" I asked.
Okoye looked at me in shock. "You're not actually considering this, are you?"
I looked at everyone around me. "You all are the greatest heroes of this Earth and if the Multiverse needs someone to help keep it in balance, then I'm willing to volunteer."
"But why should it be you?" Carol asked.
"Because I was just given a second chance. And plus, there's a whole Multiverse out there. I'd like to see what it is and all the different worlds and timelines there are. It's my turn to help people."
Carol smiled and cupped my cheek. "Your parents would be so proud of you."
Okoye put her hand on my shoulder. "As we are."
I hugged both of them, as if they were my actual parents. They both wrapped an arm around me, hugging me back. I drew back from them then turned to the cloaked figure.
"In order for you to begin your role as Guardian, you must be reborn in another world," he said. "Your adventures will begin when you find the center of the Multiverse to search for a friend."
He stretched his hand out to me and a white light took over my vision.
18 years later on another Earth, where the impossible is fiction…
My small party of friends and I were currently walking down a hiking trail near a beach at night. Although many had given up searching for our friend, we held onto hope. Little did we know, our lives and everything we knew was about to change and would never be the same again…
