A Special Camping
It was evening in Danville when we saw two teenagers walking in the woods, both with lots of luggage on their backs. One of them is a thirteen-year-old girl with orange hair, a pink skirt, a black blouse and a white jacket. She also has bright blue eyes. The other is a thirteen-year-old boy with brown hair and eyes wearing a striped tank top and gray shorts. These two were close friends Milo and Melissa who have another camping trip. Normally Zack would be with them, but he was just out of town to visit his grandparents.
So both friends figured that it was just the two of them who should spend time together, like the old days. As much as they like their new boyfriend, they both miss having a little Milo and Melissa time.
"What a wonderful opportunity to be just the two of you again after so long, isn't it Milo," Melissa said
"It really is," said Milo, "Of course it would be great if Zack could come too, but even though he's busy we're sure to have a lot of fun together."
"While it's fun with Zack, it's great to be alone with Milo for once again," Melissa thought to herself with a smile on her face as she blushed slightly without realizing it.
"So what have you got planned, Mr. Camping Enthusiast?" Melissa asked him.
"Oh, I have so many ideas. We could fish, swim, make campfires and roast marshmallows, tell stories, watch the stars and more," said an excited Milo.
"And of course addressing Murphy's Law," Melissa added.
"But don't worry, I'm prepared for anything," said Milo when they finally reached a good spot for their camp and a huge flock of birds immediately hit them to make them all disheveled.
"And there we have it," Melissa said, wide-eyed and staring.
After fixing their hairstyles and clothes, both friends put down their luggage and started pitching their tents.
"You know, Milo, since you sleepwalked last time, I think you'd better sleep right next to me this time, you know, so I can take better care of it this time," Melissa said with a thoughtful look.
"Eh, are - are you sure about that, Melissa," Milo asked with some stuttering and a nervous look, "I mean, wouldn't that be weird? A-And besides, what exactly would that change anyway?"
"It wouldn't be weird at all, after all we've been best friends since first grade. And besides, I might be able to stop you better that way, or at least catch you when you're sleepwalking again," Melissa reassured him, although her eyes turn a little thoughtful afterwards.
"Well, if you say so," Milo added hesitantly.
After this somewhat embarrassing conversation, they continued to set up their tents, Milos too to be on the safe side if Melissa's tent (castle) should be destroyed and put their sleeping bags in Melissa's tent.
After that, they both decided it was time to have some fun.
And so they began visiting the nearby lake to fish, but thanks to Murphy's Law, Milo snapped his line and Melissa's line was taken by beavers. After that, they went swimming in the same lake, splashing water on each other, playing Marco Polo and diving to explore the lake. Until Milo accidentally nudged a small fish that seemed to be sleeping, which woke up and both teenagers then pursued with hundreds of their own kind.
After that, at camp, they took a frisbee from Milo's backpack and started throwing it back and forth. But Melissa threw her too far and she flew so far that she woke up a bear, which then chased them both. Luckily, Milo had honey in his backpack and threw it in a different direction to make the bear stop following them.
They then took badminton rackets and a shuttlecock and played it back and forth for a bit until Milo accidentally hit a bees' nest with it and this time they had to flee from bees. This time, Milo took a shampoo that smelled like fresh flowers and fruits from his backpack and threw it so the bees would stop following them.
After that, they began gathering firewood for the campfire and made good progress until Melissa mistook a snake for a stick, threw it away, and then ran away screaming.
Finally the sun had set and both friends were sitting on logs in front of the campfire, both sticks with marshmallows in hand, relaxing.
"Well that was a day wasn't it Milo." Melissa asked quite relaxed.
"Yeah, it really was," Milo said in the same tone until the marshmallow fell into the fire. "Oh man."
Melissa giggled a little and watches Milo take another marshmallow. Watching him calmly, she thinks back to the past and all the good times they had together. From their first meeting and subsequent adventure, to their new friendship and the next few years of fun. From water and amusement parks, to fire and floods, from vacations, sleepovers, birthdays, holidays, movie nights and joint school projects, to power failures, destroyed objects and surroundings, snowstorms and joint doctor's visits. All those good times together that will always have a special place in Melissa's heart. Not to mention the llama incident. And with Zack's arrival, they had another adventure buddy, another friend that Milo accepted despite Murphy's law. But as grateful as Melissa is to him for it, sometimes she wished she could spend time alone with Milo again, just like when she was camping.
She loves these times the most, time alone with her Milo.
"Wait a minute, my Milo? Now where did that come from?" Melissa wondered as she blushed slightly.
Meanwhile, Milo tried three more marshmallows until he managed to fully cook one of them without breaking it. And as he watches the fire, his gaze drifts to Melissa only to see her lost in thought and blushing.
But not only that, but also how she shines brightly in the moonlight.
"Wow, Melissa looks really beautiful right now," Milo thought to himself, blushing and shocking himself.
"Wait a minute, where did that come from?" Milo wondered, "I mean, sure, Melissa is a very pretty girl, but at the same time, I've never noticed that like I do now. II mean, sure, her bright blue eyes sparkle so beautifully and her hair blows attractively in the breeze and her smile always brightens my day, but – Mo – wait a minute, what am I thinking right now."
Freaking out on the inside, neither Milo nor Melissa realize that they began to stare into each other's eyes and for a few moments, neither of them stopped staring.
It was a while before they looked away from each other, and even longer before one of them finally spoke again.
"You know, I'm really grateful to you Melissa," Milo said suddenly
"Huh, what are you suddenly thankful for?" Melissa asked confused.
"You know, for everything. I mean, on my first day of school, I was really scared that I wouldn't make friends, you know, because of Murphy's Law, and then I met you. Sure, you were scared at first too, but you approached me while still on the bus, curious about what I had in my backpack, and the adventure that followed inspired you so much that you decided to be friends with me. WHERE others would have stayed away from me after such an experience, you stayed with me and decided that we would become best friends. Since then we've had dozens, if not hundreds, of adventures through Murphy's law, yet you've never been put off and stayed with me. Sure, we've got Zack in our circle of friends now too, and most of our classmates are starting to warm up too, but you're different Melissa. What I want to say, thank you for being with me and not leaving me behind." Milo finished with a gentle smile, which, however, expressed immense gratitude.
Meanwhile, Melissa could only widen her eyes in shock at such words. She knew that as Milo's only friend, she was very important to him for a long time, but hearing such words from him, well, let's just say she's more than a little touched and her heart is just beginning to pound.
„You never have to thank me Milo. Not for being your friend or for anything else because you are very important to me too. Thanks to you, I have experienced things that I could never have imagined. I've learned so much and made so many amazing memories just by meeting you. I love being your friend Milo and always will be. So what I'm trying to say is thank you Milo for being such good friends", Melissa said with a soft look of her own and a blush.
After that, they both stayed silent again for a while, not knowing what to say, both touched by each other.
After that, it wasn't long before they both decided to go to sleep, just to remind themselves that they would be sleeping right next to each other.
Due to mutual awkwardness, it took the friends a while to get ready and get ready for bed, but eventually they managed to pull themselves together at least a little and are now both lying in their sleeping bags, both facing different directions.
Of course, both of them couldn't fall asleep, too confused by feelings that they don't seem to understand, but at least they know who these feelings refer to.
Milo ended up being the first to break the silence: "Melissa, are you still up?"
After some hesitation, she finally spoke: "Yes, I'm still awake."
"I know you said I didn't have to thank you for everything, but I still want to let you know how much you mean to me. Even though I'm not good at putting it into words, I want you to know that I hope we can stay together forever, because besides my family, you are the most important thing to me of anything and everything," Milo finished, eventually only adding whispered, but still loud enough for Melissa to hear.
"I also want to let you know how much you mean to me and you are also one of the most important things to me besides my family. I want to be with you forever too," Melissa said softly.
After that, it wasn't long before sleep finally caught up with our two best friends, and as they dreamed peacefully, they unconsciously began to roll over and snuggle up close together. When Milo tried to get up a few hours later, but with her eyes closed, Melissa held him tight and wouldn't let him move away from her.
Then the next morning, as the sun began to rise and the birds chirped, Melissa and Milo opened their eyes almost simultaneously, only to see what position they were in, leaving them at a loss as to what to do. return.
"Um, tomorrow," Milo greeted in an awkward tone.
"Morning," Melissa replied in the same vein.
They both stared into each other's eyes again for a while and slowly began to get even closer to each other. Lost in each other's eyes, they leaned closer and closer until the birds from earlier decided, in a frenzied communal flight, to drag Melissa's tent (castle) with them, rousing both friends from their trance.
"Um, I, um, think I should freshen up," Melissa said, blushing brightly, and practically sprinted off to the lake, grabbing her bag for a change of clothes along the way, leaving a blushing and stunned Milo, who decided to get changed.
The next hour is basically morning routine, tidying up and awkward silence.
After Milo and Melissa got ready and packed up all their camping gear, they made their way back to their home, still not breaking the silence as neither one knows what to say.
Finally, they arrived at Melissa's home first.
"So, um, here we are," an awkward Melissa said to Milo.
"Yeah, here we are," Milo said, just as awkwardly and a little disappointed.
"You know, I think we should do that again sometime. You know, just you and me, hanging out, camping, or something," Melissa said shyly.
Milo, hearing that, brightened up and replied, "I'd appreciate that."
"OK see you later. Zack should be back sometime this afternoon, so we could stop by his place," Melissas said
"Yeah, that seems like a good idea," Milo said
Just as Melissa was about to open the door and Milo was about to walk in the opposite direction herself, Melissa, after some hesitation, turned around, grabbed Milo's hand and spun him around
"Melissa, wa-" Milo was about to say until he suddenly felt something soft on his lips. But before he could react, Melissa pulled away.
"That, um, well, yeah," Melissa said, not knowing exactly what to say after that.
"So, um, yeah," Milo said, equally clueless and stunned.
Then they both looked at each other again, gave each other a smile and then both made their way home.
Later that day, they both met at Zack's house and asked him about his visit to his grandparents. Zack told them both about his good times, but when he asked them what they were doing while he was away, they just looked away from each other, blushing and smiling, leaving a very confused Zack wondering what he could possibly have missed, causing himself his friends would behave like that.
