There will not be any details of the case, episode or otherwise, if you want to you can imagine it is one of the episode cases or you can make up your own details however you like. The most detail I will go into about the body or crime scenes is just whether there is flesh or if it is full skeleton. The rating is for language in later chapters. Not gore. I also realized that I forgot to put a disclaimer in the first chapter, so here it is! I do not own Bones or any of the characters, the show is not mine, if it was I would be changing a lot of things.
Staring at the dead body Booth couldn't help but think about how he was going to break it to Bones again. Should he do it at the lab? So that she would be surrounded by her friends? 'No' he thought almost immediately that was just being unnecessarily cruel. She deserved his full attention, and an explanation. It wouldn't be fair to her to just get the papers and nothing else. Shaking his head he resolved to put it behind him and solve the case at hand. "So, what do we got?" he asked Cam. Listening to her explain the wounds and what might be the cause of death he subtly looked at Bones from behind his sunglasses. As expected she looked put out that he hadn't immediately asked her never mind the fact that it wasn't just skeleton, but mostly flesh, AKA, Cams department. He once again was glad that he had made it habit to wear them so it was not questioned. So that no-one saw the pain and sadness in his eyes. Once they were done with their initial assessment of said dead body and started packing it up to go to the lab, Booth saw Bones start to approach him. "Why didn't you ask me my opinion of the body and cause of death?" she asked looking and sounding hurt. Sighing he took off his sunglasses and looked at her. "Because the body is covered in flesh Bones." He said almost like he was talking to Christine. "Bones are your department. Flesh is Cams. When the body is a skeleton then I would be asking you and not Cam. But when the body is still covered in flesh I'm going to ask Cam." Putting back on his sunglasses he started walking back to his car simply tossing a "I'll see you later." Over his shoulder.
He refused to look back until he reached his car where he could make it look normal. He saw how hurt she looked but simply got into his car and went back to the building to solve the newest case and hopefully put the criminal behind bars. Preferably for quite a long time. As he pulled into his parking spot he waited a couple of minutes to get out of it instead of just getting out like normal. Leaning his head against the head rest he went over how he had acted hoping he hadn't given anything away. He knew that Bones would be talking to the rest of the gang about his behavior and what it could have meant. He hoped Cam had gotten his email and while he knew that she would understand he simply hoped that none of the other Squints saw it. He knew that she kept her computer locked but if one of them was with her when she got some results he was worried that they would see the email and tell Bones that he had asked Cam to see him. He knew that if she found out that he would not be able to keep it from her, and that she would go as far as to recruit the rest of them to "get it out of him" and he couldn't be showing his hand too early. He considered going down to the lab to talk to Cam under the guise of just seeing how far she was in her autopsy but knew that was a bad idea. Bones would corner him or Angela would corner him for her and she would try and get him to tell her the reason for his treatment of her this morning and while he knew that he wouldn't tell her anything he knew that his refusal and insistence would only make things much much worse.
Making up his mind he got out of his car and walked to his office to see if he had any new emails. Sitting down in his chair he turned on his computer and opened his browser. Signing in his account he saw that he had one new email from Cam. Opening it he was relieved that the first thing that she said was a reassurance that she would not tell Brennan and that at her earliest convenience she would come down under the impression of needing to update him on the case. Smiling he shot her back and email thanking her. Leaning back in his chair again he smiled and started doing his own research of who the person was and how the body would have gotten dumped where it had with no witnesses. He had been at it for a couple of hours when he heard knocking on his door. Looking up he saw Aubrey standing in his doorway. "Yea." Booth simply said knowing Aubrey knew that that single word meant come on in, sit down and tell me what you know. Nodding his head to show he got the message Aubrey sat down and got right down to it. Booth was only half listening as he was still thinking about how he was going to break it to Bones and Christine but he got the important details. As Aubrey finished telling him all he needed to know Cam came walking in simply saying that she had an update for Booth and saying how her web cam didn't seem to want to work and it was important enough that she didn't want to wait on IT and so she simply came down to tell him. Luckily she had brought some actual evidence so that no one was the wiser. Aubrey took that as his cue to leave and at Booths request shut the door behind him.
I apologize for the non paragraphs in the last chapter, hopefully these ones are acceptable and make it a bit easier for you all to read! Also I got a review telling me about how the court system works and how the show was unrealistic with Rebecca. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I've never had to go through that so I have absolutely no idea how it would work in the first place. How it will work in my story is how it will work. As always reviews are appreciated, flames are not and will be deleted.
