Disclaimer: I don't own TVD or Thor Ragnarok.

I was really hoping to be rewarded with more reviews from the over 600 readers, 17 favorites, and 22 followers I already have on this story since I've been spending the past few days writing a fun story for all of you. The only reason I'm not putting a review quota for the chapters is because I'm kind of hooked on this story right now and I want to get as many chapters in as I can before writer's block sets in. And I can't help but want to share my writing with all of you. I want to at least get to the ball or the end of season 3.

SPECIAL THANKS TO: CDR. Grea. My take on Hela was inspired by her story The Goddess of Death. Check it out if you want another good Hela story.

REVIEWS

Shodai01: Thank you so much. I'm glad you like my take on Hela and her relationship with the rest of the Mikaelson family. We'll see more flashbacks about her life throughout the past thousand years as a human and a vampire. I don't like OCs who have no effect on the story or else there would be no point if everything stayed the same. Hela said she was beaten by Mikael and protected Rebekah from the worst of it, so I wanted to show her getting beaten. With her standing up to Mikael and giving the siblings the love they lacked from their parents, they rallied around their older sister. They all became a unit, along with Finn and Kol, rather than just Nik, Rebekah, and Elijah. I wanted to show Hela's personality in Thor Ragnarok, as I saw her, which was why I made her human. She was no longer a great warrior and heir to Asgard. She was just a weak human under her parents' thrall. Losing Freya made her more protective of her siblings. It changed her from Hela Odinsdottir, who actively tried to murder her brothers, to Hela Mikaelson, who will protect her family even from her parents, whom she also loved once upon a time. The Mikaelsons are the family she never had, the family she never knew she wanted as Odin's daughter and she will protect them with her everything. I also wanted to show that Hela is still Hela, Goddess of Death and the rightful queen of Asgard. She was reborn with an adult's mind who had lived for thousands of years. She was a warrior. There's no way she was going to let another horrible father walk all over her. Caring and gentle are probably words I wouldn't use to describe Klaus but he's more mellow and maybe a little less paranoid. We'll definitely see a lot of Caroline x Hela interactions in this chapter. Thanks again for reading.

LunaLuna99999: Thank you for reading. And, wow. I really didn't think about that since Bonnie hates the Originals so much. But I already have an idea of how to fit that in, especially in the Silas and Qetsiyah arcs in the upcoming seasons.

AnC1999: I don't know what "Ggwp" means but thank you for reading.

WARNING: Mentions of Rape

Thanks for all your support.

Read and Enjoy.

Chapter 4: Girl Talk

Hela watched the young vampire with a smile as she rummaged through the clothing racks as she spoke. "You have very pale skin so I think bright colors would look good on you." She turned to look back at Hela, her eyes scanning the older vampire's body quizzically. "That style looks good on you so we'll start matching a few pants, shirts, and jackets."

Hela simply followed behind as Caroline picked all the clothes she felt would look good on the Original. They could've carried more but the stack of clothes was climbing higher and higher and there was no more space in the crook of their arms. They went to the changing room. Hela changed into different outfits to show Caroline, who examined her while Caroline judged based on the styles both she and Hela liked the most.

"Do you think these clothes are fine for a business/formal setting?" Hela asked. "My brother, Elijah, always dresses in a suit. I believe the only thing he doesn't do in his suits is sleep."

Caroline couldn't help the snort that came out in a very unladylike manner. She quickly composed herself before saying, "We're not very formal nowadays. I think all these could be said to be business casual. We're going to go to some other stores. We can get more brand-name suits, bags, shoes, and some formal and semi-formal dresses to give you more choices."

They carried the sets of clothes they bought to the cashier, who rung them up for several thousand dollars, which was paid with Elijah's credit card, and the bags of clothes were to be delivered to the mansion in Mystic Falls.

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize that everything would be so expensive. I usually buy only a few pieces of clothing in the store at a time, not a few dozen," Caroline said as they left the store.

Hela placed a comforting hand on the panicking vampire's shoulder. "Everything is fine, Caroline. When you've lived for as long as I have, you tend to collect more wealth than you could ever use. My family is probably among the richest people on this planet. Elijah even said that the card is limitless. I'm assuming that means I can spend as much as I want."

They left the mall and crossed the street to the more high-end boutiques. There weren't a lot of customers in the boutique, which was silent except for the soft hum of classical music playing on the speakers. An employee looked between Hela and Caroline, scanning their clothes for a moment before deciding that they were not welcomed at the store. With a bit of compulsion from Hela, which Caroline opposed, they were seated in a private dressing area and brought a platter of hors d'oeuvres and champagne.

Hela also wanted to continue her conversation with Caroline unhindered so she compelled the store employees to turn off the cameras and forget their faces when they leave. Several pieces of clothing were chosen for models to show to Hela and Caroline.

Caroline watched as Hela examined the clothes the models wore before she started picking from the racks around them. She asked the employees for different colors in the styles that she liked. After their first-round at Macy's, she had become familiar with the different fabrics and styles of clothing in the modern era. She had almost completely taken over in the boutique, only occasionally asking Caroline for her second opinion on a piece she was unsure of. Caroline couldn't believe she was sitting down, eating and drinking, with the oldest Vampire in the world, Hela Mikaelson. She could see the physical resemblance she shared with Klaus and Rebekah, and even Elijah, whom she had only interacted with in passing, she noticed shared similar bone and facial structures.

Although she looked like Klaus and Rebekah, her mannerisms were most similar to Elijah's. She had only met him a few times, where he always seemed cool and collected, but Caroline sometimes felt intimidated by the suited Original. Elena seemed comfortable around him, but Caroline only felt unease. He was always observing, always waiting for the enemy to come out at him around the corner. Maybe it was because she was a vampire, but Elijah always seemed tightly wound, as though there was some pressure mounting under his skin that would inevitably explode. She never wanted to be in the vicinity when he did.

But, Hela was different. She seemed relaxed and at ease in her skin. As she took out her phone and snapped a photo of one of the models in a new outfit, she radiated a child-like glee as she played with the touch screen of the device. She strode over to Caroline on the couch with a smile on her lips as she held her phone up to the younger girl to see. "This is absolutely brilliant. There was nothing like this two hundred years ago."

"You already know how to use a phone?"

"Yes. Elijah has taught me how to call him and send a text. He showed me how to look for videos and books to learn more of the history that happened in the past two centuries." Hela sighed as she looked forlornly. "I wish I could've seen it." Another thing Caroline noticed about Hela was that, unlike her other siblings, she was not as guarded with her emotions. "What is now called the Industrial Revolution had begun in the 1760s when they began using coal and machinery. My family and I had settled in New Orleans, but when we heard of all the new machinery being introduced in England, Elijah and I decided to take a trip. We invested a lot to bring the new technologies into the city we were building. We-"

Caroline's eyes widened. "Wait, you built New Orleans?"

"My siblings and I were chased out of Spain by our father in 1702. We simply got on a ship and crossed to the sea to what was then known as the New World. England, Spain, France, and Portugal were all trying to take for themselves as much land as they could, believing they had discovered the land, but the land had already been settled by Europeans centuries before. The town of Mystic Falls was built over the ancient village I grew up in. My family and I are what you would consider Vikings or Norse."

"Yeah," Caroline said. "I saw the images of the cave carvings about the story of the Original family." She shook her head. "But let's get back to how you built New Orleans."

"We landed in the French Territory of Louisiana and settled in the small port town known as New Orleans. We were the ones behind the human governors and we invested a lot of our wealth to make New Orleans a city worthy of the Mikaelson family. It became the refuge of most of the supernatural population in North America with werewolves, witches, and vampires all living together."

"Wow. I guess it must've been hard for you to force all those species to get along," she said.

"The Mikaelson family name was as respected as it was feared when I was alive. When more supernatural species started coming into the city, especially witches and vampires, we set up a council to decide on the rules we would all live by. Everyone had their own territory in the city. There would be a common area where all the species could interact peacefully. If there was any conflict, there would be a hearing and a council of all species to decide on a resolution. Each species ruled its territory and its people, but I was the Queen of New Orleans. We protected the witches from religious persecution, the wolves had the run of the bayou, and the vampires had no fear of human hunters. One of the reasons it worked was because we could not be killed. We were too old and strong for the witches' usual attack, aneurysms, and Originals can't die from werewolf bites. We were also just as harsh on vampires as any of the other races because we could care less about loyalty to our species."

"Wow." Caroline sat mouth agape as she was enraptured by Hela's story. "I didn't really know about all that."

"If there's one thing I failed at it's wrangling the vampire species. Most vampires don't know their history and their connections to the Original vampires. We were less than a year old when we first turned someone and it was on accident because we didn't really understand our powers. Everything you know about vampires took us years to learn and master. We were running from our father. We had to leave our first progeny behind after they were turned into vampires. Then more and more people were turned, sometimes by accident and others done deliberately," Hela explained. "How many humans woke up with a thirst they can't control and walked out into the sun unknowingly and turned to ash because they did not know they had been turned into a vampire?"

Caroline's jaw twitched. The same thing happened to her. She was suddenly smothered with a pillow by someone wearing the face of one of her best friends. When she woke up her entire body was humming and her throat was parched. The pain in her gums, the enhanced senses, and the heightened emotions were unbearable. Her body was humming with energy as it tried to adjust to her new state of being. She was disgusted with herself when she found the scent of the blood bag appealing and that the sun burned her. She couldn't hug her boyfriend because the scent of the warm blood under his skin was so appealing, it made her want to rip into his throat and drain him to satisfy her thirst. She only discovered compulsion after she accidentally fed on her nurse. Then there were the memories of her being compelled, used, and abused by Damon that Stefan had forced her to forget. Then he wanted to kill her because her being a vampire was inconvenient for him. She ground her teeth at the memories of when she first became a vampire. The look of disgust on Bonnie's face and the threat that she would dispel her daylight ring. She was even forced to spy on her friends for the woman who killed her under the threat of watching her mother die.

Caroline shook her head. She preferred not to think about it all. It was in the past. It all happened so long ago - last year.

"Had we been able to put down permanent roots, we would've been able to wrangle the vampires in the world much easier like we had done in Sweden and New Orleans. We could've helped more newborn vampires by making their sires take responsibility for turning them," Hela said. She turned to look at Caroline, noting her rigid posture and how her lips were set in a hard line. "How old are you Caroline?"

Caroline shook herself from her thoughts as she looked at Hela. "I just turned 18 on the 10th of this month. If you're asking about how long I've been a vampire, it's been about 8 months."

"Really?" Hela stood up and beckoned one of the models over. "You do not need to be afraid. You will feel no pain," she compelled. Her face shifted, the black veins raising on her face as her eyes were filled with blood. She brought the model's back against her chest as her fangs descended. She wasn't as precise as she usually was when she fed, letting the blood run down the girl's neck. She watched Caroline intentionally, noting her quick reaction to the blood, watching it run down the girl's chest as though she was in a trance. Her vampire face became visible for a moment, but she blinked it away just as quickly. Hela removed her fangs from the girl's neck. "You have excellent control for a young vampire. Most vampires as young as you are would've lunged for the girl's throat."

"I had help. Stefan taught me everything I know." Hela raised her brow curiously as if to ask how the hell did a ripper who's had zero control over his lust for human blood teach for almost a century and a half teach a baby vampire with such excellent self-control?

"Stefan also said that my controlling tendencies heightened after I became a vampire, helping me curb the blood lust whenever I feel myself thirsting for blood." Caroline shrugged. "I mostly feed on blood bags, though."

Hela stopped feeding. Caroline watched Hela prick her finger on a fang and wiped her blood over the puncture marks. Slowly, but surely, the wound closed, without leaving a mark.

Caroline stood up abruptly as she walked up to the model. She searched the girl's neck and not a mark remained. The only evidence that she had been bitten was the blood staining her milky skin. She whipped her head to Hela. "How did you do that?"

Hela smiled knowingly. "Darling Caroline, the older a vampire is the stronger and faster they are and the more acute their senses. The healing properties of our blood also increase with age. I don't need to feed someone my blood to heal them." She turned to the model and spoke to her in a low and authoritative tone that told Caroline that she was compelling her. "Get something to eat and take a rest. When we leave here, you will not remember our faces or that I drank your blood. You will only remember that you needed to model a few dresses for a client."

"Wow, that is so cool," Caroline cheered. "It's so amazing to be able to learn all these things about vampires from an Original."

Hela sat back down on the couch. "Can I ask you something, Caroline?" Caroline nodded. "Do you like being a vampire or did you prefer yourself as a human?"

Caroline sat down and she smiled. "I love being a vampire." Caroline could never admit that to her friends but she felt lighter as she said it to this thousand-year-old vampire. "When I was human, I was insecure and neurotic. I was always competing for attention, especially with my friend, Elena. I felt like I was never good enough for anyone and I guess I tried to overcompensate. But when I became a vampire, my worse qualities became my strength. I was still insecure when it came to romance and relationships, but my neurotic and controlling tendencies helped me gain better self-control over the bloodlust and allowed me to adjust quickly to being a vampire. I feel strong. I have the strength to protect myself and protect my friends. I feel at home and secure in my skin. Like... like I was made to be a vampire."

Hela smiled softly at the young vampire. "I can understand the feeling well. Had my family and I remained human, all of us would've been married and lived in separate homes. We would become estranged as we became more focused on our own families and spouses. Some of us would've inevitably left the village. Our youngest brother's death had destroyed us. Our mother making us into vampires brought my family closer than ever. Our parents wanted to kill us so we could only rely on each other. Because I became a vampire, I gained the power to protect my family. We have been together for a millennium and we will be together for many more. We will be together as a family. Always and Forever."

Year 1001

Henrik was dead. Her youngest brother. Her baby brother, Henrik, was dead. He was only thirteen. He was so young. So innocent. So full of light. He was gone. Mauled by wolves. Hela walked through the dirt roads toward her home, almost in a catatonic state as she thought back to the sight of Niklaus holding their little brother's body. Screaming. Running. Blood. There was so much blood. Those claws and teeth marks had made her brother's body almost unrecognizable.

It wasn't supposed to be like that. Because Henrik and Niklaus often disappeared to explore the caves, when she didn't see them the night before, she had thought that they were exploring as they had always done. She paid it no mind and went to sleep. Like she had always done every morning after the full moon, she went to her family home to spend time with her siblings. She had sensed that something was wrong. Something had churned inside her body. It was not uncomfortable but it wasn't comfortable either. It was an odd sensation that was there. When she closed her eyes and focused inward, she found that her Seidr, which had been dormant since she was born in this world, had awakened. She had tried to awaken it before, to reclaim some of her power as an Asgardian to no avail. She opened her eyes, still confused as to the reason her Seidr had decided to awaken now.

Then came Niklaus' screams for their mother as he carried Henrik's limp body from the forest. She ran out the door ahead of Rebekah and their mother. The rest of her siblings soon followed as they crowded around Henrik. Esther cried as she begged Ayana to save Henrik, only to declare that her little brother was dead and the spirits would not allow them to bring him back. The whole family had been distraught. She saw the same sad eyes in Mikael as she had seen when he returned home to find that Freya had "died" then determination crossed his face as he looked down at Esther.

Rebekah was hysterical. The brothers were in shock and saddened but they showed no emotion for fear of angering Mikael. Finn met her tear-filled eyes with a mournful expression as Elijah took Rebekah inside the house. Kol ran out into the forest and Niklaus was apologizing furiously for having taken Henrik out to see the wolves transform.

She was feeling so many emotions all at once. Numbness. Sadness. Helplessness. And Anger. Not at the wolves. At herself for being unable to protect her family once again. But she had no time to mourn. She spent the rest of the day checking in with her siblings one by one.

Niklaus blamed himself for Henrik's death, wishing he had been the one who died instead of Henrik.

Finn was grieving as Henrik's death brought back memories of Freya being taken away by Dahlia.

Elijah shut down. He was completely numb as he brought Henrik's body inside to wash him to prepare him for the funeral as both Esther and Rebekah were indisposed.

Kol lashed out in anger with his magic. He screamed and raged against nature for not giving them a way to save his little brother. To bring him back.

Rebekah laid crying in her cot as Hela laid down beside her, holding her little sister in her arms. The house and the yard were completely silent as the family was spread throughout. All the life and happiness and rowdy mischief that defined Henrik had left with him. Hela made dinner for the family and left it on the table before she decided to make her way back home to her husband.

She had made the trek between her childhood home and her married home almost every day that her body knew the route as she walked on auto-pilot. A fog had settled over her mind as she felt everything and nothing. So much emotion welled up inside her as her mind replayed memories of her little brother in her mind. She was frozen in a state where she was happy and laughing at the memories while feeling a great sense of loss that she would never see him grow up. She would never see his smile again or watch him follow and emulate his big brothers like a chick chasing the mother hen. He would never bring her flowers again. She would always wonder what could have been as Henrik's death left a great hole in her heart.

As she came into the clearing where her home was, she raised her head up to meet the eyes of her husband, Zain, who stood at the door waiting for her. When his eyes landed on her, he sent her a soft yet sorrowful smile. She said nothing until she stood only inches from him. "Has Niklaus arrived?" Her voice was strained as she spoke.

"Yes," he replied.

"Good." She tried to smile, but her lips were stiff as she looked up at her husband. Her eyes burned as tears fell down her cheeks. Her body shook as she fell forward into her husband's arms, who slowly lowered her to the ground. "I cannot bear to lose another sibling." She cried and screamed and sobbed. Her tears came like a waterfall with no end as she clung to the arms of the man she loved. He held her close, not saying a word, to allow her to release all her grief.

He had heard of his brother-in-law's passing at the hands of the wolves. He knew his wife well. She was taking care of her siblings, ensuring their safety, and giving them emotional support all throughout the day while neglecting her own emotional well-being. Family above all, she always said. Which was among one of the many reasons he married her.

She did not know for how long she cried in Zain's arms, but she was finally able to catch her breath. The fog in her mind slowly cleared and she slowly pulled out of his embrace. She looked into his eyes. "I saw his eyes. Mikael's. They were wild and so full of anger and hatred when he looked at Niklaus. I fear he will try to kill him. I cannot lose any more family. I will not allow him to lay a hand on my brother."

"Very well," Zain said calmly. "I will try to keep Niklaus here for as long as I am able. But you do know that you must speak with him. He blames himself for Henrik's death."

Hela shook her head. "Henrik's death is no one's fault but my own."

"Hela darling, that is not-"

"But it is!" she screamed. She pulled on her hair and scratched her arms with her nails. "This body is weak. It has no power. Once upon a time, I was the Goddess of Death. A warrior and a conqueror." The magic around her responded to her strong emotions, creating a great wind from the air around her. "I wielded Mjolnir and I had the power to drench civilizations in blood and tears. Then I was reborn in this. This weak body allowed my twin sister to be taken away. I cannot protect my siblings from that monster's wrath. And I have no power as Goddess of Death because this magic will not allow me to bring Henrik back to life." As she moved her hands about, a great sword manifested and flew into one of the trees. Hela stopped and gasped. She stepped toward the tree, looking at the fantastical shape of the sword. Her Necrosword.

Once upon a time, conjuring them with her Seidr had been as easy as breathing.

She reached up to grasp the handle of the blade, only for it to disappear in a black mist that entered her hand. She backed away, her breath catching in her throat at the realization. She had awakened her Seidr in the morning before Henrik's death. She had sensed Henrik's death. And she knew what she had to do. She whipped around to face her husband. "Zain, I need your help."

"You only need to ask, darling."

Not long after, Hela ran through the woods, holding the skirt of her dress in her hands as she searched for her brother's magic. "Kol! You must help me! For Henrik!" She had no need to say another word as Kol ran with her to the place where Henrik had died. The moment she reached the location, she could feel the touch of death lingering in the area. She closed her eyes and reached out with her senses. With her magic. Both she and Kol opened their eyes with a gasp when they sensed the spirit of their brother with them.

Hela's husband and her three daughters came to the woods soon after with the necessary ingredients for a spell to call the spirit of the dead.

Hela and Kol cut their hands and let their blood drip onto the ground that had already been stained with Henrik's blood. Holding Kol's hands, she allowed her brother to channel her while her family surrounded her, giving the spell between the siblings more power. The wind howled around them, bending the trees all throughout the forest as a storm gathered overhead. The amount of powerful magic in the area was almost suffocating but they continued chanting until a gray whisp appeared in the form of their little brother.

Both Kol and Hela were in tears as they looked at Henrik's spirit. Kol went to hug his little brother, only to pass through him to end up hugging a tree. "I was waiting for you," Henrik said. "I knew you would come to find me, sister." He said to Hela who simply choked a laugh as tears fell from her eyes.

"I will bring you back to us, Henrik. I don't care how long it takes but I will bring you back." She kneeled on the ground and held her hands out to her little brother. Henrik's hands hovered just above hers, their palms as close to touching as they could be as Hela began reciting a chant in a language that no one around her understood. The old language of the dead in Asgard, in her previous world, did not exist in this world. The only reason she knew the language was due to the Allspeak. She would not be able to learn new languages with the Allspeak but she remembered all the old ones she acquired from the other world.

When Hela was finally able to touch Henrik, a black mist formed around her body. Her blonde hair and eyes turned black as her back arched unnaturally. The mist swirled around them, becoming a portal before Henrik passed through Hela's body. The last thing she heard was, "Thank you, sister. I will be waiting for you." Then everything became black.

When Hela awoke, she found Kol beside her bed. She had exhausted her Seidr and was paralyzed in her cot. For the first time in 31 years, she spoke of the previous life she had in another world. Her husband had known she had Seidr and extradimensional magic in her body, but he did not know the origins of her power.

Kol kept what they had done to himself. His family was mourning and neither he nor Hela wanted to disturb them with a complicated story in order to explain Henrik's whereabouts. But he was able to convince his parents to perform a special funeral ceremony for Henrik, in which he used all his siblings' blood to seal Henrik's coffin and cast a preservation spell over it, so Henrik's body would never rot. They entombed him to rest deep in the caves in an area Henrik discovered while exploring and cast another blood seal so that no one other than one of the Mikaelson siblings could enter the area.

It was that night that Esther and Mikael made their children into vampires. At the dinner to send off Henrik, they all drank from the special wine their father decided to use for this occasion. They passed the goblet around and drank. They suspected nothing until Mikael picked up his sword and ran Finn through. Rebekah was the first to scream as Elijah and Niklaus tried to shield her with their bodies. Hela pulled them toward the back door to run, but there was a barrier. Esther had trapped them in the house. Hela and Kol tried to use magic to protect their siblings, but their mother had also sealed their magic away.

She tried to catch Kol as he fell before Mikael ran her through with his blade.

When she awoke, she immediately felt the weight of death on her body and spirit. The magic that flowed from the earth through her veins was no longer there. No. All that was left was her Seidr. Her weak Seidr. Without magic, she would never be able to bring Henrik back. She wouldn't be able to cast the spell to put his soul back into his body.

A sweet scent. There was a thirst in the back of her throat. No matter how much she drank of the sweet nectar, she could not satisfy her thirst. She had thought that she had lost Henrik until Esther said that she made them immortal. Immortal. Her mind was already calculating how long it would take her Seidr to mature for her to have enough power to pull Henrik's spirit out of Niflheim. Centuries. It would take centuries. But she had centuries.

After Niklaus' wolf was sealed away and Esther was killed, they had to flee the village. She decided to leave Henrik in his resting place as they would be unable to care for his coffin while running from their father. She would take the centuries she had to keep her family safe while preparing for Henrik's resurrection. Only then would she return to fetch his body.

Present October 23, 2010

Hela and Caroline spoke and laughed about anything and everything, not even bothering to continue their shopping spree. Caroline was fascinated by the history Hela had seen and the many places she had traveled, never running out of questions to ask her. They were interrupted by the shrill ring of Hela's phone. When she saw Elijah's name, she caught the glimpse of the setting sun out the window. "It would appear we spent all afternoon in conversation." They went to pay at the cashier and only left with a few bags as the other pieces of clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories were to be delivered to the Mikaelson mansion.

When they reached the parking lot, Hela saw Elijah and Finn waiting for her in the car. "Let me accompany you to your vehicle, Caroline." They stopped at Caroline's car door. "Thank you for your help today. I like you, Caroline. I know my siblings have done many unforgivable things to you and your friends but I hope we can be friends." Hela held her hand out to the younger vampire and smiled.

Caroline returned the smile as she placed her hand in Hela's. "Me too."

"Oh." Hela stopped. She pulled out a small garment bag. She opened it to show Caroline a pearl rosary bracelet, the beads intermediate with diamonds set in silver. What is it with the originals giving her diamond bracelets? Caroline wondered as her mouth fell agape as she looked at the bracelet. Hela took Caroline's hand and placed the bracelet on her wrist. "This is for you. The black pearl is special. I enchanted it with my power. If you're in any danger, just call. I will come." She handed Caroline a piece of paper. "This is the number for my mobile phone. For when you need to talk and there's no emergency."

"It's so beautiful. Thank you." Caroline looked at her wrist, examining the bracelet. She took the sheet of paper too. Her brow furrowed as she asked, "You're not in love with me, are you?"

Hela belted out in a fit of hearty laughter as she doubled over, holding her stomach. She laughed for several moments before she stopped. "No. I'll leave you for Niklaus." She winked as she helped Caroline into her car. She smiled when she noticed the quickened pace of her heart as a blush crept onto her face. Hela remained in the same place and watched the young girl leave before she returned to her brothers.

Hela stopped in front of Elijah. She looked up at him contemplative. "Elijah, do you know how Caroline was turned?"

Elijah opened the passenger door for her before he got into the driver's seat and Finn sat in the back. "I'm unsure, but I believe Katerina smothered her with a pillow. She wanted Niklaus to use Caroline as the vampire in the ritual to break his curse to bargain for her freedom. Is there something wrong with Miss Forbes?"

"I'm not certain, but there is something. When I spoke about transitioning, her entire body became rigid. I'm not sure."

"Perhaps you should ask Niklaus. He quite fancies Ms. Forbes."

"I will."

Forbes House

Caroline placed the garment bags on the floor beside her bed as she dropped her body on her bed, causing the bed to creak under her vampire strength. She couldn't physically get tired, but she was emotionally spent. She had a nice time with Hela. They only chatted and shared a few stories without the weight of the associates they were allied with. She learned so much about being a vampire and enjoyed how Hela retold the history she experienced. The moment she reached the Welcome to Mystic Falls sign, all the loyalties she had to her friends suddenly felt like this weight on her chest threatening to suffocate her.

She liked Hela. She was different from what she had seen from the rest of the Mikaelsons. She was open and genuine. She didn't hide the fact that she enjoyed being a vampire and had killed her fair share of people throughout her long life, but she was welcoming. She even gave her a way to contact her if she were to ever need anything. She never treated her like an enemy she had to be wary of. They were two people having a conversation.

But, in Mystic Falls, she couldn't be fraternizing with the enemy. That's what Damon would call it as if Hela is the same or an extension of Klaus. It was always Damon who made the decision about who was their friend and who were their enemies. Sometimes Stefan and Elena would make a weak protest, but in the end, Damon always got his way. It was always Damon. No matter how much she hated the man, no matter how many bad memories she had of him, she had to put up with him for Stefan and Elena. Even if she felt like her skin was crawling with a million ants when she was in his presence, she had to put up with it.

Those first few months as a vampire were the worst for her, filled with bad memories. Caroline was grateful to Stefan for helping her which was the only reason she hadn't actively tried to find a way to kill Damon for everything he did. That and the fact that after Katherine came to town and they learned about Klaus and the ritual, everything became about protecting Elena. She tolerated Damon for Elena and Stefan but she would never actively try to be in his presence. She had never forgiven or forgotten what Damon did to her while she was under his compulsion. He told her not to scream or speak or make a sound because he found her voice grating. He relentlessly fed on her, raped her, told her that he was going to kill her, and poked at her insecurities, destroying her self-worth to a level even less than she had before.

Being under compulsion felt like she was sinking in quicksand. Her mind, her free will, had been locked away and her body was not her own. The more she tried to dig herself out, the more she sunk every time Damon gave her an order. His presence and his touch brought on abject terror. Every time she saw him, she would always wonder if it would be the day he would find that she was of no use to him and make good on his promise to kill her. The more she thought about her life under Damon's compulsion, the more she remembered how the people around her acted.

A memory came to the forefront of her mind when Damon first started to compel her. He needed to get close to Elena as a part of his promise to make Stefan's life miserable. They crashed Elena's dinner party with Stefan and Bonnie. The moment Stefan's eyes landed on her and the scarf around her neck, he looked distraught. He knew. He knew what Damon was doing to her and he did nothing. Was it because he thought of her as shallow as to deserve whatever Damon did to her? She was Elena's friend whom he was dating. He could've helped her, saved her. She had been innocently caught between their feuding and she suffered and no one cared. No one ever asked her if she was okay. Not her mom. Not Bonnie. Not even Elena.

Elena. Yes, there's Elena. Even after she found out about vampires, she never told Caroline anything, believing that her ignorance kept her safe. Over and over again, the vampires in Mystic Falls have shown that ignorance only got people killed. She was killed by Katherine because she didn't know that Elena had a vampire look-alike just to send the Salvatore Brothers a message. Jenna was compelled to stab herself and almost died. She did later die at the hand of Klaus because she also didn't know about Katherine and found out about the sacrifice too late. Jeremy fell prey to so many vampires who wanted to use him against his sister that he had to be sent away.

So many people died because of Damon. She even became one of his victims, but that was all forgotten. Swept under the rug, when the Originals came to town. Like it never happened. Her memories were hers alone. They needed Damon to protect Elena and she had to suffer as she was forced to face her abuser every single day. Damon's misdeeds are forgotten. He was in love with Elena. He's redeemed. He's helping to kill Klaus. She kept her mouth shut and focused on helping her friend. It was for Elena. All for Elena.

Caroline couldn't help the tears that fell down her face. She cried and hiccuped as she placed the pillow to her face to muffle her cries. She felt as though she was being suffocated again. Like she was dying as she was trapped between her alliances with her friends and her loyalty to herself. She had no place to run and she could not breathe. And this time, it wasn't Katherine smothering her. It was Elena.
