Chapter 9 Am I Ready?

Aqua's POV

That Night

I sat on my bed, with my baby boy in my arms.

"You okay", Terra asked in as he sat down next to me. "You seemed worried. Is it about Kairi?"

"Yes", I replied. "She says that she is ready to go to Quadratum and see Sora's again, but is this true?"

"Aqua", Terra started. "Are you saying that you don't have faith in your student?"

"It's not her that I don't have faith in", I revealed.

"Oh boy", Terra started. "Here we go again."

"What do you mean", I asked.

"Ever since you took Kairi as your student, you've doubted if you've been good at teaching her", Terra replied.

"Well", I started. "Have I?"

"Well", Terra started. "Kairi definitely thinks so. I don't think you realise how much she looks up to you."

"The people we look up to can sometimes end up being disappointments", I said.

And as soon as I did…Terra knocked me on the head!

"Ow", I exclaimed. "What was that for?!"

"For being an idiot", Terra replied. "That's what."

"And why am I an idiot", I asked.

"Because after training Kairi for over a year, you still doubt if you are a good master or not", Terra replied.

"It's just…", I started. "I don't want her to end up in a dangerous situation because I sent her into it when she wasn't ready."

"Well", Terra started. "Isn't that why you're letting her take her Mark of Mastery exam? To see if she is ready?"

"Yes", I replied. "But I fear that the exam itself may be too much for her."

"What do you mean", Terra asked in confusion.

"I have no doubts in Kairi's fighting skills", I started. "She has come quite far in that department."

"Then what it is it that you are so worried about", Terra asked.

"It's the strength of her heart that I want to test", I revealed.

"And how will you test that", Terra asked.

"By making her confront her past", I revealed. "I just hope that it isn't too much for her."

"Aqua", Terra started. "I know you. You wouldn't have agreed to let Kairi take the test if she wasn't ready."

Kairi's POV

I was sitting outside the castle, looking at the stars.

"Mind if I join you", I heard a voice ask.

I turned around, and saw Ven.

"Not at all", I replied before he sat down next to me.

"So", he started. "How are you feeling about tomorrow?"

"Honestly", I started. "Very nervous. I told Master Aqua that I was ready, but am I really?"

"I think you are", Ven replied. "You've made a lot of progress in only one year."

"I just hope that it's enough", I replied.

"All you need to do is remember who you're doing this for."

Hearing these words filled me with determination.

"You're right", I said. "I need to remember who I'm doing this for. I'm doing this for Sora."
