Knuckles and Rouge were running through the lab as it shook "We gotta move". Rouge stopped "You're not gonna help?" "I've got a very good reason not to lose my cool". Rouge smiled "I adore you" she kisses him but then suddenly pushes him over the edge of the pit "But I need the other guy". Knuckles jumps back up looking angry. Rouge smiled "You ready for a fight now?". Knuckles grinned and hit his fists together.
The two make it outside and they see the city flying up "Race you to the top" Rouge said before flying up. Knuckles leaped up onto one of the falling rocks and then used it to leap to the next one. He caught up with Rouge and leaped ahead landing in the forest area of the city. Rouge landed next him "You know I let you win" she said unconvincingly "Now go be a hero".
Sonic was flying next to the city "Nicole?" "The core's got a magnetic field. That's what's keeping the rock together, sir". Sonic's lenses showed him the machinery inside "If it drops?" "Right now, the impact will kill thousands. Once it gets high enough, global extinction". Sonic sees a building near the edge of the city that still has people inside. He flies inside the tenth floor and finds a family cowering in fear "Hi. Okay". He looks around "Get in the tub!". Sonic flies back out of the building carrying the tub that held the family as the building collapses "Sir, I have airborne, heading back to the bridge".
Shadow was on the bridge fighting when a Mecha Razor flew in and smashed him into a car "Shads, you got incoming" "Incoming already came in". He got back up and spoke into his wrist "Sonic, you worry about bringing the city back down safely. The rest of us have one job, tear these things apart. You get hurt, hurt them back. You get killed…. Walk it off".
A group of Mechas attack fleeing civilians when Knuckles landed and tore one in half. Silver was trying to get a kid to safety while Whisper covered him. A Mecha Shadow flies right for him so he creates a shield throwing the Mecha into a wall. Whisper sees more descending "Go, go, go!" she pushes Silver into a building for cover. Silver begins breathing heavily and leans against the wall "How could I let this happen?" "Hey, hey, you okay?" "This is all our fault". Whisper kneels in front of him and takes off her mask "Hey, look at me. It's your fault, it's everyone's fault. Who cares? Are you up to this?". Silver looks up but doesn't say anything. Whisper sighs and takes off her mask "Look, I just need to know. Because the city is flying. Okay, the whole city is flying, we're fighting an army of robots, and I have a gun that shoots care bear colours. None of this makes sense". A laser comes through the wall, Whisper fires a laser through the newly created hole "But I'm going back out there because it's my job. Okay? And I can't do my job and babysit. It doesn't matter what you did or what you were. If you go out there, you fight, and you fight to kill. You can stay here, no one will blame you. But if you step out that door, you are a Chaotix". Silver holds his gaze on Whisper who nods "Alright. Good chat". She stands up and her wispon turns orange. She puts her mask back on "Yeah, the city's flying" she kicks the door open and runs out.
Two cars were stuck on the bridge, the people inside the cars screamed. Shadow runs forward and grabs the rear bumper of the front car which was about to go over. It breaks off in his hands and both cars plummet downwards. Shadow spots razor fly down towards them. He goes to the first car which had a female mongoose inside. Razor grabbed her arm and flew her to the other car putting her inside with the two others. Razor then went underneath the car and let it descend safely to the ground. Shadow watched from the bridge when "You can't save them all!". Shadow turned to face a Mecha Sonic, he threw a spear into its chest only damaging it however the spear doesn't disappear and remains in his chest. "You'll never-", Shadow raises his hand and the spear in the Mechas chest flies back towards Shadow taking the Mecha with it. It flew over the edge "Never what? You didn't finish!" Shadow yelled after him. Razor jumps down next to him "What, were you napping?". The two ran off the bridge and engaged a large group of Mechas. Rouge joins the fight, Razor leaps up and spins cutting multiple Mechas when Metal suddenly flies in grabbing him by the throat "Razor. You're bothering me".
Whisper hides behind a car as Mechas begins to overwhelm her. The doors of the building suddenly open and Silver steps out with a stoic face. He begins effortlessly tearing apart the Mechas. Whisper steps out and nods to him "Alright, we're all clear here" "We could definitely use some help over here" they heard Shadow say. Whisper nodded "Alright, coming to you". Sonia appeared and puts Silver's arm over her shoulder "Keep up, old lady!" she says to Whisper before running off. Whisper stare in the direction she went clearly annoyed annoyed. She raises her wispon "Nobody would know. Nobody". She lowers it and starts running as she talks to herself "The last I saw her, Metal was sitting on her. Yeah, she'll be missed, that quick little bitch. I miss her already".
Sonia and Silver aid the police in fighting the Mechas. Shadow and Rouge were nearby taking out any strays. Razor is flung into the church, Metal lands nearby and throws a pillar at him. Sonic flew underneath the city and examined the thrusters "Sir, the anti-gravs are rigged to flip. Touch them, they'll go full reverse thrust. The city is not coming down slow" "The core is powered by chaos emeralds. If I get Razor to hit it-" "It will crack but that won't be enough. The impact would still be devastating". Sonic pondered "If we can cap the other end once Razor hits the emeralds the energy released could vaporize the city" "And everyone on it".
The city reaches the clouds. Civilians run into buildings as it starts to get colder. Shadow looks around "The next wave is gonna hit any minute. What you got, Sonic?" "Huh?" Nothing great. Maybe a way to blow the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface. You guys could get clear" "I asked for a solution not an escape plan". He helped the civilians inside a car "Impact radius is getting bigger every second. We're gonna have to make a choice". Shadow finished and went to the edge as Rouge joined him "Shadow, these people are going nowhere. If Sonic finds a way to blow this rock-". Shadow shook his head "Not till everyone's safe" "Everyone up here versus everyone down there? There's no math there" "I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it". Rouge nodded "I didn't say we should leave". Shadow looks at her as she shrugs "There's worse ways to go". She looks over the horizon of the sky "Where else am I gonna get a view like this". There was a silence between the two but then "Glad you like the view, Rouge. It's about to get better". A massive G.U.N Egg Carrier rises out of the clouds and flies alongside the city "Nice, right? Pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends. She's dusty, but she'll do". Shadow grinned "Tower, you son of a bitch" "Ooh! You kiss your mother with that mouth?".
On the bridge of the Egg Carrier Topaz was working at one of the consoles "Altitude I 18,000 and climbing" "Lifeboats secure to deploy" Cyrus the Lion aid at another one. Small rescue craft were released from the Carriers underbelly.
Sonia runs up to Rouge and Shadow and watches "This is G.U.N?" "This is what G.U.N is supposed to be". Sonia smiles "This isn't so bad" "Let's load them up". The rescue craft land at the edge of the city and the group begins leading civilians to them.
Topaz saw Mechas coming toward the Carrier "Sir, we have multiple bogies converging on the starboard flank". Tower smirks "Show them what we got". A group of Mechas fly to the Carrier but Super Mighty arrives and tear them apart "Yes! Now, this is gonna be a good story". As he flies Sonic joins him "Yup. If you live to tell it". Mighty scoffed "You think I can't hold my own?" "We get through this; I'll hold your own" "You had to make it weird".
The rescue ships begin letting people onboard as two mounted machine guns appear to protect them from the Mechas. On the Egg Carrier Cyrus see that one is full "Boat four it topped and… stocked… topped. It's full of people". A Mecha Whisper suddenly bursts through the windows of the bridge. It smashes onto the floor and begins crawling towards Cyrus. Tower runs forward and stabs it through the head.
Metal punched Razor's face and grabbed him by the throat "You think you're saving anyone. I turn that key and drop this rock a little early and still billions die. Even you can't stop that". Razor grits his teeth "I am Razor, son of Striker and as long as there is life in my… breast… I am running out of things to say! Are you ready?". Blaze appears behind them and hits Metal with the Black Sword. It is unable to cut him but throws him out of the church. Blaze gives the sword back to Razor "It's terribly well-balanced" "Well, if there's too much weight, you lose power in the swing, so".
Sonic was still helping Mighty protect the Carrier "I got it. Create a heat seal. I could supercharge the spire from below". One of the recue ships gets hit on its way back. Sonic flies towards it and keeps it level "Sir, a heat seal could work with enough power" "Razor, I got a plan" "We're out of time. They're coming for the core". Sonic put the craft on the top of the Carrier "Mighty, get the rest of the people on board that carrier" "On it" "Chaotix, time to work for a living".
The group join in the church and take out the Mechas who try to get to the core. They appear to have gotten to the last one. Sonic points to the core "If Metal gets a hand on the core, we lose". They see Metal fly down in the middle of a street ahead of the church "Is that the best you can do!?" Razor yelled. Metal raises his hand, and the streets suddenly flood with Mechas. Shadow sighs "You had to ask".
