The winds were blowing so hard when the Ghostbusters reached the steps of the Columbarium, they were struggling to stand up in the wind. Hogarth was certain he saw bolts of black lightning strike the top of the building's dome. With severe difficulty from the howling wind, the Ghostbusters managed to slam the door shut behind them.
"Remind me to slug the weatherman when we get back," Hogarth said. "He said there were supposed to be clear skies today."
"If we make it back," Constance corrected him. "There's no telling if we'll survive what's about to happen next."
"We made it this far," Gordon said. "Why should we stop now?"
"He has a point," Jefferson pointed out. "Holster your Boson Dart rifles and get your neutrona wands ready."
The four Ghostbusters descended the steps of the Columbarium. At the bottom of the stairs was a long hallway, which was so dark, the other end could not be seen. But as the Ghostbusters began to walk towards it, the tunnel was filled with a blinding light. Simultaneously, there was an ear piercing scream, and with it came a wind the Ghostbusters struggled to stand against.
"My Prime Morganians are USELESS!" the voice howled. "They have conquered forces far more dangerous than you, and yet they still fall prey to your machinery!"
"Morgana Le Fay," Constance said. "I'm honored to finally be speaking to you."
"By the way," Hogarth added, "how on Earth did you make those Prime Morganians your most powerful servants when they're completely incompetent? I honestly didn't expect my little piece of trickery to work."
"You should have fled with the others, Ghostbusters!" Morgana's voice shrieked. "Destroy them all!"
"I'm sorry," Hogarth said. "Is she talking to us? Why would she order us to destroy anyone and who would she want us to destroy?"
"She wasn't talking to us, Hogarth," Jefferson told him.
Suddenly, there was a deafening wail, and moments later, Spectral Morganians came flying into the corridor, carrying sickles in their claws. Their deformed faces were enough to make even the bravest lose their last three meals.
"What are those things?" Gordon asked.
"They must be the present-day Morganians," Constance realized. "At least what's left of their souls."
The Spectral Morganians were struck by proton beams from the Ghostbuster's neutrona wands when they came close to their enemies. Crouching low, Jefferson dropped his ghost trap and kicked it out under the capture cage. The moment he stepped on the pedal, the trap opened, sucking the ghosts inside.
"Well, that was easy," Hogarth said.
"Too easy," Constance replied. "I can't help but feel Morgana just wanted them to distract us long enough to buy her time."
"Time? For what?"
At that moment, a bright light came from the end of the corridor, followed by a high-pitched scream. Hogarth immediately recognized who it was.
"For that!" Jefferson exclaimed.
"That's Sam!" Hogarth shouted. "Come on!"
The Ghostbusters sprinted down the corridor towards the source of the screams. As they rounded the corner, they stopped at a horrific sight before them. Sam hovered above a large hole, her eyes glowing an eerie green. Her red hair had turned black as night. She wore a black leather with a matching corset and black leather coat.
"Sam?" Hogarth asked.
"That's not Sam, Hogarth," Constance warned. "It's Morgana."
"Morgana did that to Hogarth's girlfriend?" Gordon asked.
"Possessing a descendant of mine allows me to restore my appearance in corporeal form," Sam said in a voice that was not her own. "Mere minutes from now, I will have retained my full beauty."
"Where's Sam?" Hogarth demanded.
"Oh, she's still in here," Morgana replied. "But not for long."
"Get your throwers ready," Jefferson ordered. "Full blast stream."
"You can't do that!" Hogarth cried. "If you blast Morgana, you'll also blast Sam!"
"And with every minute we waste, Sam will grow weaker and weaker until she ceases to exist. If we don't stop Morgana now, the entire world is going to die."
"At least those who won't survive her attack," Constance added.
"Well, then, what are we waiting for?" Gordon asked, aiming his neutrona wand. "Let's kick this old witch to the curb!"
"Old?!" Morgana shrieked. "How dare you call me old!"
The Ghostbusters fired their proton streams at Morgana, but she flew out of the way before the streams could touch her. Holding up her hands, a ball of pure darkness formed between them. Morgana flung the ball at the Ghostbusters, but they dove out of the way just in time.
"How the heck are we gonna stop this crazy lady?" Hogarth asked.
Before anyone could answer him, Morgana threw her hands high above her head and cried out.
"Foolish mortals!" she bellowed. "You cannot stop the might of Morgana Le Fay! Now tremble, for the Deathless Rising has begun!"
At that moment, the ground began to shake violently. Hogarth could barely stand up as the ground beneath was thrown about. He fell on his seat as he saw the other Ghostbusters collapse over the same incident. In the center of the room, a column of fire shot out of the hole like a volcano.
"The age of humanity has come to a close!" Morgana declared. "From this day forth, the world belongs to me and my Deathless One! Now, choose and perish!"
"Choose?" Constance asked. "What are you talking about?"
"Choose the form of the Deathless One!"
"That's some pathetic consolation prize you're offering!" Hogarth shouted.
"She wants us to choose what this 'Deathless One' is going to look like?" Gordon asked.
"If we think of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man," Hogarth said, "then the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man's gonna show up and destroy all of us! Here's what we gotta do! We need to empty our heads and think of nothing! If we think of nothing, the Deathless One can't take a form!"
"I'm afraid the choice has already been made!" Morgana exclaimed. "Enjoy extinction!"
"What?!"
But before Hogarth could say anything else, Morgana disappeared, and the fire column vanished with her.
"That doesn't make any sense!" Hogarth bellowed. "Nobody chose anything! Did you, Jefferson?"
"Of course not!"
"What about you, Gordon?"
"My mind is completely empty!"
"Well, I didn't choose anything! Who did?!"
Suddenly, the answer struck Hogarth, Jefferson, and Gordon like an icy slap to the face. Turning, they spotted Constance standing there with a guilty look on her face.
"Constance," Jefferson said in a low voice, "what did you do?"
"I just couldn't help it," Constance said. "It just showed up in my head."
Without warning, Hogarth seized Constance by the collar of her uniform and yanked her in.
"What just showed up in your head?" he snarled.
"Look, I just tried to-"
Suddenly, the Columbarium shook with the arrival of a sudden impact tremor. The Ghostbusters staggered and nearly fell over from the sheer intensity. Another one came, even more intense than the first. One tremor came after another, in an all too familiar pattern.
"Are those footsteps?" Gordon asked.
"Ah, crud," Hogarth said. With that, he sprinted out of the chamber, with the other Ghostbusters following close behind. Upon exiting the temple, the tremors continued, shaking the surrounding area.
"LOOK!" Jefferson screamed.
"WHAT DID YOU DO, CONSTANCE?!" Hogarth roared.
Over the tops of the nearby buildings walked a massive creature. It was at least a hundred feet tall with large eyes, giant ears, and short arms and legs. Its teal-colored, pink star-spotted fur shook with each step.
Constance sighed and said, "It's Keebo, the Adorable Elf-Munk."
"Keebo hungry!" Keebo cried.
"What were you thinking, Constance?!" Gordon demanded.
"I was trying to think of the most harmless thing imaginable," Constance explained. "Something that could never destroy us: Keebo!"
"It never occurred to you that Ray Stantz tried to do the same thing in '84?" Jefferson asked.
"My parents got me a Keebo for Christmas when I was six. I slept with him every night from then until ninth grade."
"Clearly, it never occurred to you that the Deathless One would make Keebo the size of King Kong," Hogarth snapped.
At that moment, Keebo turned and saw the Ghostbusters standing in the middle of Loraine Court. His face turned to anger and he let out a high-pitched cry of anger.
"I think he spotted us," Gordon said.
"Understatement," Hogarth replied.
"Blast him!" Constance shouted.
The Ghostbusters fired their proton streams directly at Keebo's chest as he turned onto Loraine Court. Keebo let out a roar as he felt the force of four streams of protonic energy strike him. He fell onto his back with a loud thud that was powerful to make the Ghostbusters fall over and set off every car alarm on the street.
"Okay," Jefferson said as he got up, "maybe that wasn't the best idea after all."
At that moment, an eerie glow made a presence known to them. Looking up, the Ghostbusters saw Morgana hovering above them with a look of pure rage written on her face.
"INFIDELS!" she shrieked. "HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE DEATHLESS ONE! FIRST, YOU CHOOSE SUCH AN OBSCENE FORM FOR HIM, AND NOW, YOU TRY TO DESTROY HIM! YOU SHALL PERISH FOR THAT!"
The Ghostbusters barely got out of the way as Morgana fired bolts of energy from her hand. They dove behind a U-Haul cargo van and huddled together.
"Okay, so this isn't working," Hogarth said.
"We definitely need a new plan," Gordon said. "How on Earth are we gonna take down Morgana and Constance's childhood cuddle buddy?"
"There may be a way," Jefferson replied. "Morgana is the Deathless One's tether to this plane of existence. If we can blast her with enough energy, we can destroy her and remove the Deathless One from our reality."
"How are we supposed to do that?"
"By crossing the streams."
"But you said we were never supposed to do that!" Hogarth pointed out.
"Is that going to be enough?" Constance asked.
"No," Jefferson answered. "We'll need to deactivate our regulators, too. The combined force of the excessive protonic energy expulsion and the crossed streams should be just enough to destroy Morgana."
"Are you insane?! There's no way we can survive that!" Hogarth exclaimed. "And what about Sam?! She's still in there!"
"There's actually a very slim chance we'll survive," Jefferson said. "But it's almost certain that Sam won't."
"No way! I'm not gonna let you kill my girlfriend! We'll find another way!"
"Hogarth, there's no time!" Constance said. "If Sam was here and knew what the stakes were, she would agree with us. It's her life for billions around the world!"
"Her life is worth billions!"
"There's still a chance Sam would survive the event, and her odds are the same as ours," Jefferson told him. "I'm sorry Hogarth, but it's our only option. We wouldn't be considering this if there were others."
Hogarth couldn't look his fellow Ghostbusters in the eyes. Sam was the first girl who liked him for who he was, not because he was a hot shot street racer. She made Hogarth feel like he belonged at school, and thought of her made him look forward to getting through each hard day. But now, he had to destroy her in order to save the world.
"Okay," he said. "I'll do it."
"What are we waiting for?" Gordon asked. "Let's finish this!"
With that, the Ghostbusters ran out from behind the U-Haul and stood defiantly in front of Morgana. They reached down and turned a knob on their neutrona wands, deactivating their packs' regulators.
Constance looked up at Jefferson.
"It's been an honor working with you, Dr. Edevane," she said.
"The feeling's mutual, Dr. Rachlyn," Jefferson replied.
Constance and Jefferson both fired their proton streams. Instead of the usual orange beam, a green beam shot out of the neutrona wands. Almost immediately, a high-pitched wine emanated from the packs.
"NO!" Morgana cried.
"Keebo angry!" Keebo bellowed, having begun to move towards the Ghostbusters again.
"If today, my spirit is destined to imbue the Earth to empower my descendants and nurture them through their lives," Gordon said, "then so be it."
With that, he fired his beam and joined Constance and Jefferson.
Hogarth looked up at Morgana. Staring directly into her eyes, he thought he could see Sam in there, screaming to be free. He couldn't even bring himself to think of what was bound to happen next. It had to be done: It was Sam's life or the whole world, and it didn't seem like either option would end with her surviving, regardless.
"I'm sorry, Sam," he whispered, and fired his gun.
"All right! Cross the streams!" Jefferson ordered.
The four Ghostbusters began to pull their streams together. Morgana desperately tried to fight against them, but the amount of energy being fired into her was overwhelming.
"I AM A GOD!" she roared.
"AND WE ARE GHOSTBUSTERS!" Constance roared back.
With that, the four Ghostbusters crossed the streams. Morgana screamed in utter pain as the streams created a massive explosion with her at the center. Keebo exploded into a torrent of teal liquid. The Ghostbusters were blown backwards and everything went black.
