A/N: And I'm back! I hope that you enjoyed the first chapter, here is the next one! Please review! Also, when the grammar isn't as good when Annabeth is talking, that is because Annabeth is seven. Even though she is extremely smart, she does not have perfect grammar. Just wanted to put that out there.
Disclaimer- I do not own Percy Jackson, only my plot. This is my last disclaimer, I will put it up on my profile.
Annabeth woke up to spider bites. She almost started hyperventilating, until she remembered the events of last night. All of those spiders, crawling all over her, and biting. Annabeth remembered her stepmother saying not to tell her father. Well, Annabeth would not tell her father, she would show her father. Annabeth got dressed quickly, and threw her long, curly blond hair into a ponytail. Even though she was only seven, she learned how to take care of herself very quickly. Annabeth was fairly tall for her age, and she had startling grey eyes. She had no idea where those came from. Probably her mother. Annabeth never knew her mother and she was ready to go and ask her father. She glanced in the mirror, and noticed that all of the bites had faded. Great. Now she didn't have anything to prove that she was telling the truth except the cobwebs, and everyone will think that she somehow procured them just to lie about her terror. Annabeth was smart for a seven year old, and her life ambition was to become an architect. But nobody cared about that when it was Annabeth. She had no friends in school, and she was pretty lonely. Annabeth had ADHD and dyslexia, but that didn't stop her from getting good grades. Annabeth trudged downstairs.
"Good morning Annabeth!" her father cheerfully exclaimed, "How did you sleep?"
Annabeth saw the look that her stepmother was giving her. "Not good, I had nightmares."
"What were they about?"
"Spiders."
"Ah." There was an awkward silence. Annabeth finished her breakfast and took her dishes to the sink. After breakfast, Annabeth was walking by her father's room, when she heard voices. She knew it was wrong, but she stopped to listen at the door. It was a conversation between her father and stepmother.
"Frederick, you have to stop babying Annabeth. She is a big girl now. She can take care of herself." Annabeth was mad. She was seven! She didn't think of herself as a big girl! She got even more mad as the conversation went on. "I know Helen, but she is my oldest, and I don't like to yell at her. I would much rather do my World War Two diagrams."
"I know, Frederick. But that is why I have been telling you. I don't mind being bad cop. She is different. Do you remember her mother? Abnormal. That's what Annabeth is. We need to send her away. Why, the other day, I said something about her brothers, and she said that they were only her stepbrothers."
"But she's only sev-"
"So? That doesn't matter. Just let me handle Annabeth. You go have fun and enjoy your time with the twins. Deal?"
"But-" Annabeth's stepmother sent him a deathly glare. "All right darling. It's a deal."
Annabeth was fuming. Her stepmother had completely twisted up that story. Annabeth had been the one to say brothers. Her stepmother had sent her a glare, and said that they were only her stepbrothers. Annabeth loved her brothers. She really did. She wanted to play with them, and be a big sister. Unfortunately, somebody (normally her stepmother) was always near them. At this rate, they will never know her. Annabeth suddenly got sad. What did Helen mean that her mother was abnormal? That Annabeth was abnormal. Annabeth made up her mind. She walked into her father's room, and asked, "Daddy, where is Mommy? And not Helen, she's not my Mommy."
"Annabeth, I told you to call her Mother, Mommy, Stepmother, or Stepmom even when it's not to her face. And to answer your question, she is… I actually don't know where she is. She is very powerful and busy. And I will not answer any more of your questions. You do not need to know anything else about your mother. Helen is your mother now, and you will treat her as such. Am I clear?" asked Frederick.
"Yes Daddy." said Annabeth sadly.
"Now go play with your brothers or help your stepmother." Annabeth ran out of the room. She decided to try to play with her brothers, and if her stepmother said no, she had a reason why she was playing with them. Maybe she would actually get to play with the twins! But her hope proved to be short lived. Even after Helen had heard her argument, she wouldn't budge. At this rate, it was like Annabeth lived in a completely different world! She was mad. The rest of the day passed in a blur. At night, the spiders came again.
Athena was furious. How dare Frederick and Helen make her daughter feel bad! And the spiders. How they were coming after Annabeth, Athena had no idea. Maybe she was starting to give off the demigod smell. And because she was a daughter of Athena, she attracted spiders. Once she got to Camp Half-Blood, she would be safe. Well, as safe as a demigod can be, anyway. Now what magic item should Athena give her?
A/N: Ok, I know that I said that this one would be longer, but that is the perfect cliffhanger. Next one will cover until she runs away, I promise. Please review. I love reading your thoughts. Until next time! Merry Happy Everything, and Happy New Year!
Also, I have an SYOT for THG that is not yet published, if you want to submit a tribute early then I can get started on writing them. PM me for mentors, stylists, and prep teams forms.
