A/N: sorry I haven't updated in a while! (Like, 5 days). School has started, but I will try to update twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. I also will only be putting my authors notes on the bottom from now on. Enjoy this chapter!

When Annabeth woke up, she woke up with a smile on her face. She was going to run away. But not today. Today she would have to endure being trapped in her room. Well, at least it would give her time to pack. She would need the biggest bag that she owned. But it couldn't be a suitcase. A suitcase was big and bulky, and besides, she didn't have one in her room. Her backpack would have to do. She began piling things into it when she realized that someone would be in soon. In fact, it was probably better if she did it after everyone went to sleep. While she waited for breakfast, Annabeth decided to make a list of things that she would need to pack. Her list read:

Clothes (at least 4 sets)

Food (as much as I can get)

Bathroom stuff (because I will need it)

Books (so I don't get bored)

Money

Paper and pens for writing letters

A watch (steal Helen's?)

As soon as Annabeth hid her list in her desk room, Helen barged in with a tray that she promptly banged onto Annabeth's desk. "Come on, girl. You are going to go to the bathroom, and then you will eat your breakfast." Annabeth's breakfast consisted of a bowl of cereal, which thankfully hadn't spilled, an apple, and a water bottle filled with water. Helen informed her that the water bottle would be refilled throughout the day. Helen marched Annabeth to the bathroom, and when she came out, she got marched back to her room. The first thing that she noticed was that there was a stack of books as tall as her head in the middle of the floor. Annabeth thought that it was overkill to have THAT many books, but she was glad anyway, because that meant she would have plenty of books to pack. On closer inspection, she saw that almost half of them were boxes. Hardee har har. Very funny. The other half were on mythology. To be specific, Greek mythology. She wondered why all of the books were on Greek mythology. 'Oh well,' she thought, 'they are bound to be interesting.' Annabeth had forgotten that Helen was in the room. She realized that she was when the door banged closed. A moment later, as she was eating her breakfast, Annabeth heard the door creak open. Frederick Chase walked into the room.

"Annabeth?"

"Yes, Daddy?"

"Do you understand why you are in your room today?"

"Yes," said Annabeth. "I got in trouble because Hele- sorry, Stepmother, got mad at me for yelling because I had a nightmare, and said that I woke up the twins. I didn't realize that I was screaming. Honest, Daddy, I didn't! I woke up to He- Stepmother yelling at me when I woke up. It isn't very logical that I got in trouble for being loud, but then when she came to tell me that, she was screaming at the top of her lungs." Now, Annabeth knew that not all of that was true. She wasn't having a bad dream, and she was already awake when Helen came in. But her father didn't need to know that, did he? "Now, when you put it like that, it doesn't sound as logical, does it? I will talk to her. In the meantime, is there anything that you would like to have, or any other questions that you have for me?" asked Frederick.

"Actually Daddy, there is one thing that I was wondering, and one thing that I would like to have." said Annabeth

"Alright then, what is it? I will answer your question, and get you whatever you need to have."

"Thank you. I was wondering why all of the books that Stepmother brought in were Greek mythology. It isn't what I usually read."

"Ah, I thought that you might wonder about that. See, Annabeth, Greek mythology is a big part of our lives, or at least yours. There is a camp in New York that you will go to when you are old enough. In fact, since you are running away, you might as well go there."

"Y-you know that I'm going to run away? Are you upset? Please don't make me stay, I don't like being here. I love you, Daddy, but Helen is so mean to me, and she says awful things."

"I will not actively endorse you running away, and I hope that you change your mind, but if you want to go, I will understand. Now, what is it that you wanted me to get for you?"

"Lots and lots of snacks. Like bars, and some other non perishable foods. Please? I have some money for when the food runs out, but I hope that I can get somewhere before it does."

Frederick chuckled. "You really have planned everything out to the last detail. You are your mother's daughter." Annabeth smiled. She liked being compared to her mother. In her head, Annabeth had an idea of what her mother would look like. She would be fair-skinned, with blond hair just like Annabeth. She would be super smart, and she would let Annabeth skip grades until she found one that challenged her. She would be an architect, and Annabeth would shadow her to work some days, to learn everything she could to follow in her mother's footsteps. Her mother would be everything Helen was not. She would be kind, and always help Annabeth whenever she needed it. She would never yell at Annabeth, and if the spiders ever came again, she would stay with Annabeth, and help her not be scared anymore. Yes, Annabeth's mother would be perfect.

She was interrupted from her daydreams by her father. "Alright, I can get you that, and we can spare a hundred dollars as well."

"Oh, thank you Daddy!" Annabeth squealed. "You won't regret it, I promise!"

"I sure hope that I don't. And I will act hurt and surprised so that Helen doesn't suspect anything. I better go now, before she gets suspicious. I will bring your granola bars and other food when I come back in."

"Oh, thank you!" said Annabeth. She hugged him so tight he might have burst. Then, Frederick left the room. Annabeth started looking at the Greek mythology books. They were fascinating. There were stories of the gods, and the Titans, and the primordial gods. She eventually started fantasizing about what god or goddess she would want to be her parent. She immediately ruled out all of the gods, because she had a dad. She thought that having Artemis as a mom would be cool, but she ruled that out right away. Artemis wouldn't have any kids, because she was a maiden goddess. Athena was her favorite though. Annabeth thought that she and Athena shared some qualities. Like their grey eyes. And they both were smart. (though Athena is smart on a god level and Annabeth was smart on a human level) Athena would be a great mom to have. The day passed, and Annabeth kept reading. She went to go to the bathroom, she talked to her dad, put away the granola bars, and ate her food, but her heart wasn't in it. She loved the world of Greek mythology. It was so fascinating. Like how Zeus tricked Kronos into barfing up his siblings. Completely disgusting, but smart. And how Demeter literally let the whole world starve because Hades took her daughter. Annabeth didn't think that Persephone was the smartest though.

Soon enough, night fell, and Annabeth got all of her supplies in her backpack. She crept down to where Helen always kept her watch, and fastened it around her wrist. She was ready to go. Then, at 2:54 in the morning, Annabeth crept out of her window, and ran into the night.

Athena was glad that her daughter was running away. Maybe she would make it to camp! She would need some help though... but Athena would cross that bridge when she came to it. Athena figured out the magic item. A cap of invisibility! Anyone would want that. Uh-oh. Zeus was calling. He must need her help. Again. For the millionth time that month. She took one last glance at her daughter, and went to help her father.
