Naruto: Regashi

Hello, Zora here. I just want to say this is my first fanfiction. It's likely going to be messy, but this story idea was too good to pass up on.

Summary: Hiruzen is told of the relentless bullying that young Naruto is going through, and remembering his promise to the Yondaime. Hiruzen decides that the boy should be better protected and educated. Leading to Naruto having a much better childhood.

(Obviously I don't own Naruto)

Chapter 1: Kakashi The Caretaker.

Hiruzen sat at his desk, attentively looking at the report before him.

It's this bad? I had assumed he would be bullied, but to this extent?

Beaten, mobbed, attempted assassinations? I'm the Hokage, how could I have been so blind…

"This report is concerning, thank you Kakashi."

Hiruzen got up from his desk, Grunting in his old age.

"Kakashi, the boy can't defend himself. I see the will of fire in him, more than anyone else. And for his, as well as Minato and Kushina's sake. We should give him better protection as well as training."

The white haired man nods

"Young Hatake, for the remainder of the festival would you be willing to look after Naruto?"

Kakashi sighs.

"I suppose I have nothing better to do."

The Hokage chuckles.

"I know you're more excited to look after Naruto then you let on."

Kakashi just eye smiles

"I won't let you down Minato-Sensei"

Hiruzen sits down and goes Into thought "I can't help but feel I have failed you Minato, I apologize, I still remember my promise. I won't falter now,"

Back at Naruto's dump of a home…

Naruto cried, It was his least favorite time of year, his birthday.

"It's your birthday kid, you really shouldn't cry…"

Naruto looked up in shock, seeing a man with a face mask standing In his living room

"The door was locked, How did he get In here!"

"A-Are you going to hurt me?" The man didn't look threatening, but neither did the last one...

"Don't worry kid, Lord Hokage sent me to protect you."

Naruto let a small smile creep up on his face "The Old Man sent you! You must be nice then!"

The man got up and gave his classic one-eye smile.

"I'm Kakashi Hatake and I'm going to make sure no one hurts you from now on."

The boy's smile was as big as possible, "No one will hurt me! That's a better present than any of those cheap Orphanage workers ever gave me!"

"I'm Naruto, Naruto Uzumaki."

Kakashi ruffled Naruto's hair. "I'm well aware of who you are, Naruto."

Naruto's face flashed with worry as he backed up a few steps.

"And y-you don't hate me like everyone else?"

Kakashi just chuckled

"Man, these people really have traumatized him…"

"No Naruto, I don't hate you. Say, I notice you don't have any food. How about we go out anywhere you want? My treat."

Naruto was gleaming with pure excitement, not only did this caretaker not hate him, he was, well. Taking care of him. "Can we go to Ichiraku Ramen?"

Kakashi gives a nod "Just like Sensei."

"That's the best ramen spot In town, I see you have good taste kid."

At Ichiraku Ramen.

Kakashi and Naruto make their way to the best ramen spot In Konoha, and enter.

Teuchi looks up, "Ah, I wasn't expecting two Ichiraku favorites to show up together" Teuchi knew (as did everyone else alive during the Kyuubi attack) that the beast was sealed Inside Naruto. Teuchi, kind hearted as he Is. quickly knew Naruto had a heart of gold.

"So boy's what will you be having"

Without hesitation, Naruto ordered. "Miso Pork, Please."

"I'll have what he's having" Kakashi added

Teuchi sighed and gave a smirk "They don't call you the Copy Ninja for nothing."

Naruto looked at Kakashi In pure awe, "Wow, you have a cool nickname. You must be really powerful Kakashi, I hope I get a cool nickname when I become Hokage!"

"Yeah then they won't disrespect me, I'll show them I won't fall no matter how bad things are, believe It!"

"So, he wants the Hokage's spot, I guess I should set him on that path"

Kakashi had known It the moment he arrived In the room, Naruto was truly just like his parents.

"Naruto, If you want to be Hokage you need basic training, and you need to go through the academy."

Naruto just gave him a determined stare. "I still have a few months until I start at the academy, so I can still get a head start. Even if the kids there dont like me, I refuse to lose!"

Kakashi gave an even larger eye-smile "I like your will kid, I'm going to help you with your dream."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

Next week at Naruto's apartment.

"What? Orange Is a great color! Why would I change outfits?" Naruto yelled at Kakashi

Kakashi just sighed, "Orange Isn't a very good color for a Shinobi, Naruto"

"Naruto, you'll look like total idiot if you go into the academy wearing a orange jumpsuit,"

Naruto just responds with a "Hmph." "Oh yeah? What makes your opinion matter, other then your mask, you look stupid!"

Kakashi lets out a small gasp, "I have far more fashion experience then a 5 year old!"

"I'm fighting with a 6 year old... only a few days ago I was assassinating a high level Shinobi."

"Naruto, maybe you can make new friends at the academy If you… well look less like you do right now"

This peaks Naruto's interest. "You mean if I look good then people might like me?" he lets a small grin come onto his face, "Well, if you put it like that. Then you gotta help me get new clothes, Kakashi!"

"That's what I was trying to do, kid."

Right before Kakashi and Naruto could leave to buy the fox-boy some new clothes, an ANBU member appeared, "Kakashi Hatake, Naruto Uzumaki. The Hokage has asked for you too come to the Hokage Tower

"Hai" the two go, but right when the ANBU member leaves, Naruto utters "what's the point of doors if any simple ninja can just teleport right through…"

Hokage's Office

"Ah Kakashi, Naruto…" Hiruzen say's as he sits down at his desk. "Always a pleasure to see both of you." Kakashi and Naruto give a bow, "Same for us Lord Hokage…" "What do we owe the pleasure?"

Hiruzen gives a simple smile. "Well, we have decided to give Naruto a new residence, It's far better then where you are now," Naruto gleamed, apart of him was torn about leaving, that home carried significant memories with him, and as a 6 year old he has attached, but he also remembered all the times it nearly became his grave during the Kyuubi festivals. But he was overall happy he was getting a cool new home.

"Wow! How big is it!" Naruto Jumped up and down, Kakashi just gave a quiet "calm down Naruto…"

"Don't worry Naruto, there is room for you and Kakashi…" "In fact, Kakashi already has his stuff moved in, don't worry. It's far safer, there's also training grounds for you."

Naruto was shining brighter than the sun at this point, "You mean that's where Kakashi is going to be training me to become Hokage! Thank you, thank you, thank you." Naruto jumped over the Hokage's desk to give him a big hug.

Hiruzen returned the hug while laughing, "Hokage? You should focus on training for the academy for right now, then you can try and get the hat."

Kakashi, who had been giggling along with the other two, said "Naruto, I don't think you're quite old enough to understand what being Hokage is."

"This answer should be interesting…"

"Pfft… Of course I know what it means, you gotta be strong and everyone respects you… and you have to protect everybody, Right?"

"Well.. you're not too far off i guess" Kakashi said in an amused voice.

Hiruzen lightly puts Naruto down and says "Well, I shouldn't hold you two any longer, you have around 5 months until the Academy year starts. Kakashi, keep him safe."

"Hai" Kakashi replies

Zora: Yeah, it's pretty bad. But I hope to get better the further we get along.
