Soooo this is my first ever SCP fic. Title suggestions are welcome since I had absolutely no idea and decided on 'Dim' because... opposite of Bright :p

I'm not really sure about how to write Bright or 4999, so there's two versions. The first chapter (Right under this author note) is the original version I wrote in like one go for my friend novaswan on discord. The second chapter is the revised version I made to be more compliant with SCP-4999's file and be more accurate to the wiki in general.

Also, I'm still not entirely sure on how to characterise Bright outside of lolfoundation so please go easy on me ;-;

Jack Bright really didn't mind dying here. Not that he ever minded dying, the only thing he disliked about it was he never stayed dead.

This time it was quiet. He had been caught in yet another containment breach. The hallway was littered with the bodies of researchers and other staff unlucky enough to be caught in the breach, the only sound other than his laboured breathing being the distant gunshots of MTF's sent to re-contain the escaped anomalies. If he had a gun he would've just ended the torture quicker, but unluckily for Jack, the O5 council had just revoked his firearm privileges the other day, something about not wanting him to just go off himself to get another body. And so, he lay there, bored as he waited for death to 'take' him.

"Want one?" a voice suddenly asked, and the immortal man turned best he could to see SCP-4999, offering him a cigarette.

He declined it and sighed. "Y'know I'm not really dying, right?"

4999 pocketed the offered cigarette before lighting one himself. "I know." He answered simply.

Jack gave him a look. "If you know, then why come? I'll come back later anyway-" He stopped to cough up blood, his newest body meeting its end.

Much to his frustration 4999 didn't reply, only taking a puff of his cigarette. He could vaguely make out what he thought was the SCP's mouth moving to form words, but by that time black began to cloud his vision.

Once he was gone, 4999 stood up and took one last look at the body- a decently tall man with black hair. "Just because you're immortal doesn't mean your feelings don't matter, Bright."
