Hana's POV

Hana had no idea how she was going to tell Sarah that Jess was in the hospital, about to be taken into surgery. She had no clue how to tell Sarah that Jess had been shot in the line of duty. In the neck. A shot that should have been fatal, if it weren't for the two paramedics passing by at the perfect moment. The thought was terrifying to think of, and a Jess was just her boss and friend. But, for Sarah, Jess was her love, and probably the one that Jess had given power of attorney to. That meant she was responsible for telling Tali about her father, once she had processed it.

Hana sighed. She put on a brave face and knocked on the door, Barnes at her side. Waiting for the door to open felt like forever, although it was really just a minute.

"Where's Jess?" Sarah was asking when Hana really tuned back into the conversation.

The look on their faces must have been the confirmation that something had happened. Sarah's face fell and tears started falling down her cheeks. She turned, leaving the door open, and walked back to her spot on the couch, asking,

"Is he dead?"

Hana shook her head as she sat down on the couch with Sarah. "No, he's not dead, Sarah. He's not. The doctors are taking him into surgery as we speak, they think he has a good chance. We needed you to know, so you can come to the hospital. Jess would want you there."

"Have you told Tali?" Sarah finally asked, drying her eyes with a tissue from Barnes. "Has anyone called her? Or his family in Canada? His father?"

"Not yet."

"I should call Tali. I should call Jess' dad..."

"We can take care of all that. You should be with Jess, or at least at the hospital waiting for him."

"No! I need to get to Canada! I need to go be with Tali when she finds out her father is possibly going to die!" Sarah shouted, dropping her book on the couch angrily.

"We know, but Canada is a flight away. We can have a jet take us there, but it will still be a wait," said Barnes.

"I don't care! I am not leaving that girl in the dark. She's already lost her mother, I won't let her find out her father died after the fact! Not when she can at least have a chance to say goodbye!"

"Barnes, go book us that jet. Tell them that Agent LaCroix is severely injured, in case they haven't heard already, and get that jet ready for us in the next hour," Hana said, "I'll get Sarah packed. We'll go get Tali and come back to the hospital. I'll get Ortiz to tell Jess' father what's happening."

Forty minutes later, Hana was leading Sarah and Barnes onto the FBI's waiting jet at JFK airport. Word had apparently gotten back to Isobel already, and she had organised the jet before Barnes had even called. She had called ahead to clear them to arrive in Canada without fuss, and had even put in a call to Clinton, who had promised to meet them at their airport and taken them to Tali. He had also offered to tell his parents what had happened, knowing that they would want to be there for Jess.

"We should be in Canada in a couple hours," said Hana as the plane took off. "Clinton is meeting us at the airport to take us straight over to Tali's school. He spoke to the headmistress of the school and explained the situation, asked them to not say anything to Tali until we get there."

"Who is Clinton?" Sarah asked.

"Jess' former brother in law."

"Former? Oh, you mean Clint? Jess calls him Clint most of the time."

"Doesn't surprise me," said Barnes. "Those two were inseparable from the time they met each other."

"I don't think you can call him a former in law. He and Jess constantly talk to each other, more so now that Tali is living at the school."

"Not a surprise either. Have you met him yet?"

"No. And this is not how I imagined meeting someone that means so much to the man I love." Sarah looked over and glared at Barnes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean that to offend," Barnes apologised.

"And I didn't mean to be rude," sighed Sarah.

Hana gave Sarah a smile. "We understand. We want Jess to be okay as well. Let's just all calm down before we face a very scared, distraught teenager."

Hana climbed out of the jet last and looked around. The airport was small, just two runways, but it still looked massive to her. Yet, as she took a few steps forward, she realised that it wasn't so big, and they weren't far from telling a young girl that her father had been shot.

"Hana! I have missed you!" came a familiar voice.

"Hi, Clinton," said Hana, smiling. She hugged her friend. "I am so sorry about this nightmare."

"Jess will be okay, just like always. We will all be there for him."

"Have you told your parents yet?"

"Yes. They are packing now- we will be accompanying you back to New York. We all want to be at the hospital."

"How do we tell Tali? She going to be so afraid."

"We will tell her together. I will hug her and promise her everything will be alright."

"Will everything be alright?" Hana finally asked as they got into the front seat of Clinton's car.
