Hermione felt Malfoy relax under her hand and she pushed her wand further into his throat threateningly. It clearly wasn't threatening enough as a half hearted smirk found its way onto his lips, "What are you doing?" he drawled.
"Answer my question," She growled, narrowing her honey coloured eyes into a steely glare that could frighten a mountain lion.
"You know what they'll do to you if they find you here?" He asked, a hint of something resembling concern in his voice.
She didn't care, "Answer me, Malfoy. What did you do?"
He glared down at her, pushing against her wand. He let out a throaty grunt as she pushed him firmly back against the wall, "Let me go," He began, trying his best to seem threatening towards her but it wasn't going to work, he sighed, "Just go, you'll find out soon enough."
"I'm not going to let you go terrorise the rest of the school."
He let out a humourless chuckle, "First of all, I'm the last person in that group you should be worried about and second..." he trailed off.
"What?" She quipped.
"We're leaving," Draco said, "What needed to be done has been."
Her heart leapt to her throat, "I'm only going to ask one more time before I hex you into oblivion," She hissed once more, "what the hell did you do, Malfoy."
He glared at her but when she pushed her wand so hard into his throat that he flinched he finally told her, "Dumbledore is dead."
She gasped, it took a mere moment to process the information but finally, she stepped away from him. He made a move for the door as soon as he was free from her, not noticing that she was pulling something gold out of her robes. He had almost stepped into the corridor and back to the darkness of his life when she spoke.
"I'm going to stop you," She had mumbled it so quietly that he almost hadn't heard anything but it was enough to make him turn to glance back at her.
She grasped something that he knew quite well. His own mother kept one in her gringotts vault. They were incredibly rare and a great majority of them had been taken into custody by the ministry for safe keeping. He had no idea how on earth Muggle-Born Hermione Granger had managed to get her hands on one.
"Is that a time-turner?" He asked.
She glared up at him for only a brief second before gazing back down at the object in her hands, "I'm going to stop you," she repeated, this time louder, harder and he realised it was a threat.
For a second he froze before her words registered in his mind and he rushed towards her, "You can't," he spoke, taking a hard grip on her arm.
She tried to pull away but he didn't let go. Draco tried to grab for the time turner. His hand knocked hers and it began to spin, "No!" Hermione yelped, eyes on the golden item in her hands, "that wasn't right!" that was all she managed to get out before the world around them seemed to be getting pulled out from under their feet. Classes of students filled and vacated the room too many times to count but luckily for them, when the turner did finally stop spinning the room was empty.
It was bright outside now, a blinding ray of sunlight burned Draco's eyes and he squinted. He took a step away from Hermione, both of them taking in their now bright surroundings. The classroom was a muggle studies room with muggle nick nacks set around the shelves of the room. Five rows of desks lined the room, facing towards the chalk board at the front. Hermione was too busy searching her surroundings that she almost didn't see Malfoy reach out for the time turner around her neck.
"Give me that," He demanded.
"No!" she exclaimed, stepping further away and tucking the necklace back into her robes.
He rolled his piercing silver eyes at her and reached out again, "Like that's gonna stop me," he scoffed and grabbed the chain from where it sat on the back of her neck. His cool, pale fingers brushed her skin as he pulled the chain over her head. Draco swatted her hand away when she tried to grab at it.
"We don't even know where we are!" She hissed at him.
"We're in Hogwarts," He said dismissively.
She glared up at him, trying again to snatch at the time turner, "I mean we don't know when we are."
He groaned and sent a glare back towards her, "You better fix this."
"This is your fault!" She yelled, "I didn't ask you to come with me!"
"You're the one that wanted to traipse through time in the first place!" He roared back.
"To stop you from murdering our Headmaster!" Hermione glowered at him, her hand clenched around her wand. They were interrupted by the sound of the door handle turning. Draco turned his head to the door, his distraction giving Hermione the opportunity to grasp at the chain in his hand.
He pulled back on it just as the classroom door began to open and the chain snapped. They watched as the time turner fell from its chain and landed harshly on the hard floor. It shattered into pieces and a burst of air shot out of it so strong that it knocked Hermione and Draco to the ground and slammed the door back on whoever was trying to open it.
Hermione looked at the time turner in horror as a small whisp of silver light floated out from the now destroyed device. She was so shocked that she didn't hear the door clicking open again until Draco was stood above her. He grasped her arm tightly and pulled her up to her feet before rushing them into a closet on the other side of the room. He closed the doors as quietly as he took and cast a locking charm on them.
They were now far too close for Hermione's liking. She could feel the heat of his body next to hers, smell the musky scent of his cologne, feel the smooth material of his black suit jacket as it rubbed against her arm. They were so close that his quiet breaths fanned across her cheek, moving the stray stands of hair that had fallen from her pony tail. She tried to move away but the closet creaked as she did and he shot a deadly glare at her before gripping her waist to stop her from moving.
All she wanted to do in that moment, as his strong hands held her middle firmly, was burst out the closet doors to put as much distance between them as she could. Hermione knew that wasn't an option though and so she stood there quietly, listening to the muggle studies professor that had just entered the room. The wandered in hesitantly and then let out a short gasp and Hermione knew they had found the time turner. Only a second passed before they heard the teacher hurry back out and slam the door shut.
Draco quickly unlocked the closet and they both rushed into the classroom. He scoffed, "Of course a muggle studies professor wouldn't even think of looking for someone after finding a time turner shattered on the ground of their classroom."
Hermione wanted to say a snide comment back but she was to mortified at the sight of the now clear floor, not that she new how to fix a time turner or if there was even a way but definitely not when it was gone. She turned around to glare at Malfoy, "You better hope we're not far from our time because there's not going back now."
