Sakura knocked tentatively. Their CEO was nice enough, but he was still her boss. She didn't want to say the wrong thing, but she wasn't even sure what to say yet.
"Um, it's Sakura," she called out after only a brief silence. She was too on edge to squirm outside the door any longer. She tugged at her clothing, feeling self conscious about showing up in practice clothes — workout shorts, a baggy shirt and a sloppy ponytail were not doing any favors for her confidence at the moment.
Finally, the door swung open to reveal a smiling but harried Hiruzen. "Ah, Sakura! Just the person I wanted to see. Come in, come in." He ushered her inside and she took a seat facing his desk. He returned to his own chair and glanced at his computer again before meeting Sakura's eye. She assumed he was very busy...planning...stuff. Or whatever he did.
"I saw the news," she said hesitantly. Was he ever planning on telling her? How did something like that just slip?
"Of course you did," he said, still smiling, "it's only the hottest topic on the internet! It's been trending for hours and company stocks are going up!"
She inhaled, unsure how to put this delicately. "Uh, that's cool and all, but I'm not dating Sasuke."
Then, as if she'd summoned him, said man burst through the door. "I knew you didn't like the song that much," Sasuke accused Hiruzen. Sasuke helped produce LOViE BUG's next title track and he felt in his bones that it would do well with the general public, but Hiruzen had only given a lukewarm seal of approval. It irked Sasuke to no end because he would never put his name on a track he didn't have full confidence in.
"Ah, Sasuke. Please join us." Hiruzen's smile had faded to something more somber, but he clearly wasn't freaking out the way Sakura was. She shifted in her seat, feeling her thighs unstick from the cheap leather.
Sasuke remained standing. "Explain why you thought it was a good idea to sell out now. The song is good, you're just too stuck in your ways." Sasuke had a reputation within the industry for being standoffish, but he always played fair and people noticed. This wouldn't bode well for him if anyone with a brain caught onto how the company orchestrated this "scandal."
Sakura winced. She knew, as a top notch producer and the leader of his group, that Sasuke had a bit more leeway with the CEO. But still. His words were harsh and she wondered if it ever crossed his mind that maybe her group needed the press more than his name as a producer.
If he was even thinking about her at all.
During their entire exchange, Sasuke had pointedly ignored Sakura. She supposed it was better than being the subject of his ire.
Their boss remained unruffled. "This certainly isn't out of the ordinary. Sasuke, your group is entering its fourth year. You should know this is a critical time. Sakura, your group is entering its second year. You're no longer rookies. We need more growth. The two of you are hot topics on your own, but will trend even more together."
"Wasn't that the point of debuting in a group instead of solo," Sasuke grit out.
Hiruzen waved a mottled hand. "People love romance. You don't even have to do anything extra, just let it happen. Let them wonder. Any press is good press."
Sasuke grunted. "Easy for you to say."
Hiruzen was not shy about shooing them out of his office. "Now, I believe there's a comeback to be preparing for, yes?"
When the door shut behind them, Sakura gave Sasuke a wide berth in the hallway. "So I guess we'll be spending a bit of time together." She tried to come across nonchalant, conversational, but her voice came out as a squeak and she kept twisting her hair around her fingers.
He narrowed his eyes at her. "Just try not to get in my way." He brushed past her in the hallway and didn't look back.
A/N: Yeah so about names: the extra e's in Leeef are a nod to weeekly, my rookie babies; then I was like fine..plant and nature theme we will commit to that um bugs, yeah, the lowercase i was actually an accident but then I was like u know what. kpop names are weird so it stays
