And this is only very lightly edited I'm tired but wanted to post already, u know the drill
Sakura couldn't believe her ears.
"You've never had to actually learn girl group choreography?"
Sasuke had the decency to grimace. "No. For any collaboration stages they usually learned our choreography instead, or we both learned something new. And during my trainee days..it just never came up."
Sakura took a deep breath and finished up her stretching. "Then I guess we have a lot of work to do."
The pair were scheduled to take part in a special stage for the start of summer, and the majority of the songs in the mix were well known songs by "summer queens." Sasuke and Sakura had their own section, but some of their other group members were also involved in the special. Sasuke was out of his element; Sakura was ready to shine.
They started in order. "You at least know the point dance for this one, right?" No one could escape this viral smash hit with its equally famous point dance! ...But that might have just been the girl group fan in Sakura speaking. If he didn't know it, though, they were off to a rough start.
Sasuke scoffed. "Of course I know it." While he didn't necessarily like the music other groups put out, he could at least respect their achievements — even if he viewed them as mountains for him to climb and conquer.
"What..what are you doing?" Sasuke had started to move his body while humming the tune but honestly? "Whatever that is looks awful."
"What do you mean? That's the point dance." Being criticized so openly by his junior honestly wounded his pride.
Sakura had finally discovered something the famed Uchiha Sasuke was terrible at: girl group choreography.
He thought he was going to have this in the bag. Summer choreography was usually simpler for the sake of being refreshing and the amount of girl group songs packed into the remix would just make it easier.
But for once, he had to admit that he was dead wrong. Why did Sakura make it look like a breeze? Why wouldn't his body move like that? It wasn't like he lacked training.
Not only was the choreography kicking his ass, the facial expressions that went along with such bright music were proving difficult. He once thought that Sakura often over exaggerated her bright expressions, but while practicing he discovered that even without the cameras she was naturally charming and cute. Not that he would ever, ever tell her that in his life! It was just the truth.
When they finished watching their recorded practice Sakura smiled at him weakly. "Your fans must really like your, um, gap crush."
After a painful few hours of rehearsing together, they gathered with their group members to start piecing everything together. Like Sakura said, they had a lot of work to do.
Towards the end of the official rehearsal block, Sasuke stood off to the side to check the example video one more time. Despite normally being an incredibly focused person, he couldn't help but notice Sakura giving Naruto some pointers. In his defense, Naruto was wearing his favorite orange tracksuit and spoke at an unnaturally loud volume. Hard to miss.
After processing what he was seeing, Sasuke couldn't seem to focus on the video. He kept rewinding to watch the parts he missed after glancing up at Sakura and Naruto repeatedly. He huffed. This was annoying.
Eventually, he got through it and looked up just in time to see Sakura give Naruto a big high five. From the sound that rang out through the practice room and Naruto's barely concealed wince, she was unusually strong. After that, Sakura left with her own members and only Sasuke and Naruto remained.
"Man, Sakura is an awesome teacher!" Naruto said with a wide grin. From his relaxed posture, Sakura must have gotten him up to speed with the choreography.
"Hn." Sasuke wanted to do well, but he also didn't want to ask. Not getting it right away was embarrassing enough, but asking Naruto? Just kill him now.
Naruto kept rambling. "Yup, she makes it so much easier! I feel so much better already."
Sasuke swallowed hard. He edged slightly closer to Naruto, but refused to look up from the ground. "What..what'd she tell you?"
"Huh?"
"She taught you something, didn't she? You couldn't keep up a couple hours ago and now you're not even worried. So? What was it?"
Naruto cracked a knowing smile and crossed his arms nonchalantly behind his head. "Oh, I see. You're asking for my help."
"No, I'm asking for Sakura's help. But she already left, so now I have to ask through you." It made sense in his head.
"What's the matter? Too scared to talk to your girlfriend and ask for help?" Naruto's eyes were glittering — he was having way too much fun with this.
"Naruto," Sasuke said warningly. He was two seconds away from putting the blonde in a headlock.
Naruto seemed to take note of Sasuke's clenching fists because he finally let up. He raised his hands in a truce and said, "Fine, fine. It's easy. That's seriously what she told me. We put too much power into moves that don't need it, so it doesn't look smooth and we end up behind the beat. Just..let it flow. That's all." It seemed deceptively, well, easy. But it seemed to work for Sakura.
They had the practice room for the rest of the evening, so Sasuke rolled his shoulders back in an attempt to take it easy. He wasn't leaving until he was satisfied.
Sakura skipped down the hallway towards the practice room. After retrieving the jacket she accidentally left behind, she'd finally be able to call it a day and return to the dorms. What was strange, though, was that the lights had been left on. She pushed the door open to find Naruto and Sasuke practically gasping for air..in the ending pose of the special stage? Had they seriously been practicing this whole time?
"What are you two still doing here?"
"Practicing," they panted in unison.
Sakura gaped at them. "Seriously? You're going to get hurt if you continue on like this!" She was all for hard work, but this was another level.
"We're fine," Sasuke insisted, but the sweat dripping down his face said otherwise. "We'll even run through the routine to show you, won't we, Naruto?"
Naruto dragged himself into a standing position and gave her a thumbs up. "You're on." They pushed through their exhaustion one last time and gave Sakura plenty of reason to applaud them. Their final performance would turn out just fine.
After Sakura gathered her things, she bowed to them. "I'll be going now!"
"You're not walking back alone, are you?" Sasuke found himself asking. He berated himself internally for the question. And so what if she was? Would he walk her all the way there and then go back to his own dorm? That would be so awkward.
Sakura and Naruto seemed surprised by it too. "Um, no, I was going to grab Ino from the vocal room and walk with her." Sasuke seemed satisfied with this because he nodded and left the practice room first. Sakura huffed to herself. Oh Sasuke.
As expected, the performance went off without a hitch. They rehearsed on stage and filmed the final version with no issues. After thanking all the staff involved, the members filed off stage. Right before turning down the hallway towards the boys' dressing room and separating from the girls, Sasuke turned to Sakura and abruptly said, "You did well." He walked off before she got the chance to respond.
In their own dressing room, Ino demanded to know what had Sakura smiling like that. Sakura shook her head, but since she couldn't wipe the dazed expression off her face, Ino kept pushing.
"It's nothing really. It's just that lately I've learned that Sasuke-kun is really a unique person." She laughed to herself and Ino only rolled her eyes. That was certainly one way of putting it.
Sasuke was loath to admit it, but it was possible that this relationship thing was actually working.
Not like that. They were not actually dating, thank you very much. But the PR benefits were undeniable.
Their special stage and their respective fancams racked up millions of views. Their group names and individual member names trended online. And now, the advertisement deals were pouring in with special requests for Sasuke and Sakura. The online hate had slowed down greatly too.
"Good morning, Sasuke-kun," Sakura greeted him cheerfully as he climbed into the company van. They were on their way to a magazine shoot.
"Good morning. Kakashi is late as usual?" Their manager was not known for punctuality.
"Mhm. So I guess we can just wait in here for him."
The silence was beyond awkward, and Sasuke could tell Sakura was on the edge of her seat trying to find something to say. Finally, she pulled out her phone and pointed to the screen. "Have you seen the comments and stuff lately? Don't worry, they're all good. I'm kind of surprised."
"I've seen some of it. I'm glad." It felt wrong to just leave it at that, so he added, "I might have missed something though. Can you show me?" He moved seats so they were sitting next to each other. They both jumped when Kakashi flung the door open to find his precious kids sitting awfully close to each other, staring at the same phone screen.
"Good morning you two. I hope I'm not interrupting anything. Shall we get going now?"
