Caged

Hayate growled from inside his cage, and once again attempted to get through the bars. One of the Enemies look at him nervously, and Hayate could smell the fear on the man. He growled again and let out a sharp bark. The man tensed and moved further away from him. Not that he had been in reach anyway. If he had been, Hayate would have bitten him.

Hayate turned in the cage again, looking for any way out. So far, he hadn't found one. This was not one of the usual locks that Mistress had trained him for, and it wasn't a cage made of the usual material. But Hayate was determined to find a way out of it.

He had to get to Mistress.

Mistress was in sight, but she wasn't especially close to him. She was laying on the floor of this place, the Enemies around her. The Enemies had hurt her, and then they had hurt her again. Hayate had hurt them in return, doing all he could to protect Mistress. He had hurt at least three Enemies, and he would have hurt more if they hadn't managed to get him down and throw him in this cage. He could still taste their blood on his teeth and smell it in his nose, and he didn't like it.

But he liked them hurting Mistress even less.

One of the Enemies walked towards Mistress and knelt by her. This one was Pack Leader of the Enemies, and Hayate knew it. He said something to her, and Mistress said something back. Whatever it was, Enemy Pack Leader must not have liked it because he stood up and kicked Mistress hard.

She cried out, and Hayate couldn't take it. He barked and jumped and scratched and howled. He snapped at anyone who got close and strained against the edge of his cage. Nothing on it gave, and it only increased his frustrations. He could hear Enemy Pack Leader betting irritated at him, but Hayate didn't care.

They had hurt Mistress.

They had caged Hayate.

They were still hurting Mistress.

Colonel would come. Colonel always came. Colonel and the rest of the Pack, and maybe even some Others that were Pack-kin, but not Pack. They would come. They would rescue Mistress. They would let Hayate out of the cage.

And then Hayate would attack Enemy Pack Leader and get his revenge for Mistress being hurt. Hayate growled and barked that promise, to the men and to that man. They wouldn't escape.
