"Please Don't Do This"

Winry watched Edward walk away, and she held her tongue. She watched as he, Ling (or Greed? She was still confused by that) and the two men that were with them walked down the road. She watched as they made their way towards the Kanama slums, towards Central.

Towards, what felt like, a final confrontation.

He had told her what was happening, the information that they had. She and the Briggsmen with her had told Ed and his crew what they knew. Winry understood that what was at risk and how important it was. She understood that it was more than just his and Al's lives on the line, that it was the whole country. She understood that there was no way that Ed would ever run, especially without Al.

She understood that sense of responsibility that was weighing on him.

And yet, her heart, her mind, and her emotions wanted to yell "Please don't do this!"

She wanted him to come back. She wanted him to call Al back to them. She wanted them, Granny, and Den to run, to flee. They could head east, through Ishval, maybe go to Xing. She wanted them all to escape, leave this behind! She wanted to keep him safe, wanted them all to be safe. She didn't want to risk losing him.

And she knew that she might lose him.

What he was heading out to do was dangerous. It could cost him his life. It could cost Al his life. It could leave him injured in ways that she couldn't fix. It could mean that she lost him in ways that were more than death. It could mean that this was the last that she saw of Ed.

And because of that, her heart screamed "Please don't do this!"

But she never would. She refused to say the words. She knew that it wouldn't stop him. The only thing it would do is make everything harder on him. It would put more of a strain on him. It would weigh in the back of his mind, make him question himself, take away from where his focus needed to be.

If she told him what she felt, it would only cause more harm. So, Winry yelled at him to fix it. She refused to leave herself. She told him she expected to see him back. She pushed him to go and take care of what he was going to go and take of anyway. Even as she watched him walk away from her, she refused to say what she felt.

"Please don't do this!"

No. She'd never utter those words to him. And she'd never utter them to herself, either.
