A/N: A short little carter ficlet to keep my hand in

The sunlight streamed through the window, the golden colours illuminating her bare arms as she lies there, her hand covering his. The shadows of her eyelashes dancing over her cheekbones, the way her eyes fluttered shut after a cold night, allowing him to hold her was worth it considering everything they had been through. Peter's fingers traced over her wrist, the duvet covering her modesty and his and he was just ever so captivated by her eyelids fluttering open, a small smirk on her face and soon enough she closes them, his fingers gliding over her soft skin.

"Beautiful" he whispers under his breath, her smile widened as she opened her eyes once more

"I feel safe here"

Her admittance was something that sparked something within him, he didnt know what but, either way, he smiles simply at her and closed his eyes allowing the sense of feeling her delicate skin beneath his finger, they just fit together like that

"I would never want you to feel any different"

"Thank you for last night though"

The way she sheepishly changed the subject, unable to comprehend the events of last night. It was hard for her, the way things rapidly changed but he was there, he would always be there helping her through the tough times and one of them just happened to be last night.

"You dont need to thank me, baby"

"I do because you get it, you will always get it"

He smiled at her words and she just smiled with her eyes closed. His fingers were gliding up and down her arm, the goosebumps alighting her skin.

"I love you"

"And I love you too"

Even though minutes passed, her wedding ring caught the light that was still streaming through the window. It was giving off a rosy glow, something that was warming, comforting.

"A year"

"Seems longer than that, it is longer than that"

"Only if I forgave you"

She mumbles, her body refusing to turn over to look at him directly. Her eyes were on him though but he couldnt look her in the eye, she understood entirely.

"The past is in the past"

He mumbles settling back down in bed together, she shifts over to him and presses her body against his, their soft skin touching as they bask in the morning sunlight still streaming through the window.

"Every year that passes there will be new challenges and with one year of marriage we're still standing"

"Last time we couldnt even manage one year, I'd say thats a resounding success" she teases and he laughs into her head, his lips brushing against her hair taking in the scent of her shampoo mixed with the remnants of her perfume

"I guess when you put it like that"

"It was your fault though"

She snorts against his chest, she knew she was joking. It was weird how things changed, the past was kind of like a joke to them now.

"Happy one year anniversary though"

"Happy one year anniversary to you too"

He whispers into her head, her hair splayed out behind her and her arm across his chest, some things would never change, this was one of them along with the painful memories of the past.
