Hope sat in the living room. That had been converted into her own living space. It was a new experience having to sleep, and being able too. She sat rigid on the couch as her eyes swept the little home she found herself in. She gazed at the pictures that showed off a younger commander who's eyes seemed to shine with innocence. She observed how through different pictures his eyes seemed less and less vibrant. She saw on that couldn't have been that old, he looked to be the same age he was now. His shine had been replaced by a cold determination. Her eyes turned towards the food that sat on the table in front of her, she had signaled that she was fine without eating but the smell tempted her even now. She shoved the thought of eating away violently, and focused on other things.
She wasn't filled in on what her mother had done to free them from that horrid place. Hope found herself not wanting to question anything, it would be a mistake on her part to bring attention to them by an angry god. Her mother may have been a god in her own right but having a force in opposition of them wouldn't be a fun experience. The thought of perhaps another being like her mother taking offense to their presence, it scared her. It made her feel weak and vulnerable, as if she had no strength of her own. The only facts she knew was that Mother had torn reality apart and attached herself to a soul that was able to withstand suffering. The only other thing being how she had to regain her strength in order to bring her forth more daughters. She hated having to wait, but she was glad that she was around first. She would have the responsibility of helping her sisters adjust to this place.
Hope sighed, she hoped that her sisters would be able to be reborn here soon, it would be nice to have a familiar face. She leaned back into her seat on the couch, and fell over. Her hands pulled her twin guns back into reality. She was a copy of her mother, an asexually produced child. She only had a portion of her mother's power, her silver guns ethereal and horrible. The ability to fire not bullets, but weaponized pieces of her own soul. The bullets fired from this gun never hurt her, but she knew that some of the skills that she used did bring her closer to death. This was her power, she wasn't a frontline fighter but a rear guard. She was only alive because she had always been instructed by the previous commander to stay in that formation. She had watched as countless sisters died while she survived and became stronger. The long blood red scarf flowed around her neck and pooled into her lap, her eyes stared at how there wasn't any white in the scarf. This is a personal record for not being close to death, the only other way to remain healthy had been to allow her sisters to be sacrificed into her and absorb their soul. It was a disgusting ritual, but she could never say no. That ritual was the only reason she had so much strength to back up her agility. It was a piece of a sister that was never dead, but not truly conscious.
Hope felt her eyes burn as she remembered all of their faces. She silently sobbed as she held the guns close to her chest, hoping that a lifelong companion would help settle her nerves. She remembered every time she would die herself, only to find that her life was bought back by the commander. She had been something that newborn sisters died to bring back. She stopped dying, the alternative was too painful. She couldn't even fault her mother or the previous commander, they needed the strongest of daughters to fight against those nightmarish abominations. She often cursed her name, how was she supposed to be Hope when hers had long since died. Her silent sobs made the cold not-metal of her guns press into her skin, the cold sensation brought some clarity of mind back.
She could hide behind her mask, she had to make everyone else smile. It made her feel better every time she managed to uplift her sisters' spirits. The first time seeing the new commander came to her mind. She hadn't thought anything of him, just a boy not ready for this responsibility. She played her role as the happy soldier, she felt every spike of emotion from her mother. The bitter sadness and hope for a better future, that feeling of guilt had spiked as they had bore witness to Inko caring for the commander.
Hope reflected on how Inko had grasped the commander, checking him over for injury. She had been painstakingly caring and loving, but she felt how the commander had chafed at the treatment. He loved her but he didn't appreciate being treated like a fragile plate or china. He had returned her hug with a gleam of joy, he was happy to have something to show that he was no longer helpless. Hope had thrown him a questioning look, hoping that maybe she could gleam some sort of meaning of their actions.
She had never experience something like this, the only person who had done something similar to this was the previous commander. He would ask about how their conditions were before he would send them on a mission, it felt clinical but she could feel the care he gave when selecting people for a task. The commander never sent out those who were newly spawned without an older daughter to help get them on their feet. She supposed that she could understand care, but not motherly affection. She could feel her balance in this new world crumble, as she had to come to terms that she no longer had to suffer.
Hope couldn't lie that being able to finally decompress and reach a new equilibrium was nice. She had loved how her new commander had distracted her with his inane thoughts and instructing her about things in this new world. She was knowledgeable about simple basic life but the idea of quirks was strange. This world was bright and vibrant, she stood out as a monolith of abnormality her colors not matching the world. She had observed how the ground under her feet shifted back into that off white color. It changed back as she moved away, it was unsettling to think that other place clung to her so desperately. she may have escaped but it was still the resting place of countless sisters, their names forgotten in the cemetery. The commander had tried his best not to lose any of the names, but after countless loops and failures. The power to turn back time ended up forgetting some of her comrades, their names wiped from the records. That place had claimed them in death, and it felt like it wished to pull her back. The idea of being lost forever, never being able to be recalled in each loop was unnerving.
She could only hope that Mother had enough power to bring the others soon. She was still recovering from tearing themselves out of that reality, into this world. She hoped that suffering was lost among the countless fragments that remained of that hell, she found herself praying to any deity that wasn't her mother. She wanted to never again see those horrible monstrosities, she hoped that every soul they saved had found better places to roost. She held her soul pistols lovingly, this weapon giving her strength to breath again. She had so many abilities that wrapped itself around sacrifice, her own blood and life force. She wondered if this new commander had the right idea of it, a sacrifice that wasn't permanent. The idea was enviable but also it would never have been possible back in that nightmare. She would never have been able to survive for that long with a non-functioning limb. She snorted bitterly, but the commander had earned a great deal of respect with his actions. He hadn't even considered sacrificing her, it was touching but it also made a type of fury rise in her.
If it was possible to lead from the front, why hadn't the previous commander done so. That thought died as she knew why, he wasn't in a position to help physically. The commander was a spirit of guidance, he was a memory of someone that had been with Mother before she had entered this new stage of life. The previous incarnation of Mother was stronger than all of her daughters but didn't have the advantage of numbers. In a way this new eternal army was the perfect thing to combat a force of reality ending creatures.
Her eyes returned to the plate of food that waited for her. She dismissed her guns, they went back to residing in her soul. She pushed herself back up, wiped her eyes with her sleeve and reached for the food. If she was going to adapt she needed to learn how to fit in.
(One Week Later)
Hope found herself sitting on a chair, calmly drinking tea. It was apparently supposed to help with calming nerves, she appreciated the effort. She was also slightly suspicious how Inko had been able to see through her, something that stung her pride. She wanted to be able to say that she was an expert at hiding her feelings but a woman who barely knew her was able to pick her apart in a few hours. She practiced writing with her untested handwriting, that was never a necessity before and it was difficult to grasp how to write the characters well enough to be recognized.
They had calmly adjusted to their new lives together, Inko was wary of her at first. Hope had went out of her way to see that issue was resolved soon, she dedicated herself to helping out with chores around the house and volunteered herself to go on grocery runs (Which Izuku had to come along with, seeing as she didn't know how to get there). She adjusted to this new life slowly, hope was no longer calling Izuku 'Commander' in her head. He seemed to want to be her friend or ally, it was enough to make her smile feel a little more real. She felt like she was a part of this family, it seemed that Mother was approving of what was going on. Hope could privately admit to herself that she wished that Mother had the chance to be apart of this. She was present but she was resting, building back up her power. She would only speak briefly if necessary but otherwise she was a silent observer who offered emotions. This morning was something that brought her a huge amount of excitement and humor.
She watched as Izuku was currently trying to make a trench in the floor, his mother was right there with him. She was holding her handkerchief in her hand and worrying away at the edges of her eyes. Hope honestly couldn't believe that water generation wasn't her quirk, but limited telekinesis. They were really alike in moments like this, seemed Izuku had inherited his ability to worry from his mother. She nearly jumped out of her skin when the mail slot slapped open. Her hand reaching for her weapon, but she quickly disguised the movement as reaching for a biscuit on the table.
"It's here!" Inko exclaimed, worry and excitement equal. Her hands worrying at the handkerchief while the other grasped the letter gently, and her eyes sparkling with a hope that seemed to be reflected by her son. The letter exchanged hands gently, while Izuku seemed to be both excited and terrified.
He looked at the tiny slip of paper with what seemed to reverence. It was so funny that Hope accidently projected her amusement at him, she was quick to give him a gesture of reassurance. She knew something had happened to his self esteem that it seemed to be nonexistent. He returned the gesture with a smile, that seemed to match her own.
He took a shaky breath and opened the letter, only for a hologram of a strange creature to form above a strange disk that fell out. "I'm the principle of UA, Nezu, and you've caught my interest." That sounded oddly close to a threat, Hope narrowed her eyes. She was curious about what could have been interesting enough to catch the attention of this creature.
"I've only sent messages like this to examinees that catch my attention at the absolute potential they have. I can even count that number on one paw, haha!" Nezu laughed at his own joke, Hope wasn't sure but something about this creature made her nervous. She could only hope that he was unable to see them.
"I've got a few questi-"
"This is a prerecorded message, I'm sorry. I would love to have a conversation with one so intelligent as yourself, you had great marks on the written portion of the exam. I was personally impressed by the dedication I could feel through your words. I will get down to business and tell you the combined score for you and Ms. Hope."
She felt something shiver down her spine, it knew her name. It's beady eyes seemed to stare through her soul as she met it's gaze evenly. It didn't help that it's white fur was reminding her of that place, she was thankful for the cute little suit it wore. It was enough to pull her attention away from the more distressing details.
"The combined total of Villain points being a total of twenty-four points, before the zero pointer was released. In ordinary circumstances I wouldn't have wasted my time sending this letter as those points aren't enough to enter the Hero course. That isn't the only thing being tested in this exam, the secret category of rescue points. Your combined total being seventy-six points, for a final total of one hundred. I'll say, I was leaning towards higher points in the rescue category, but we have no idea how you and Ms. Hope are connected. We were unsure whether she was an extension of you or a separate entity."
Nezu gave a smile without showing teeth. "I am glad to welcome you to your hero academia, Izuku Midoriya!"
Inko and Izuku had burst into tears, the parent and child embracing as they supported themselves. The tears flowed freely, but they were full of joy. She could feel how happy Izuku was. Hope rolled her eyes affectionately at her ally and made her way over to join the hug, hoping to remind them not to flood the small home.
Hope smiled as Mother seemed to join in the celebrations. She felt her Mother's pride wash over her and Izuku seemed to stand taller.
(3 days later)
Hope sat across from Izuku and his mother, she had offered to help out with setting the table and found herself sitting as physically far from them as possible. She wanted a better angle to observe how a familial unit functioned. She was obviously curious about certain facts about normal living in reality.
They all ate together while Inko made small talk about her day. She inquired about Her progress on learning to write and Izuku on if he figured out more of what his quirk could do.
"I've been seeing if I could make more helpers. I wonder if only one is my limit, so i was trying to see if anymore would form while Hope focused on learning how to write. She is getting there, takes her a while to write out her sentences but she is getting there. She did complain about how she had steady hands when aiming her guns but they seem to shake when holding the pencil." Hope shot him a dirty look, the little punk was lucky she didn't throw the pencil at him. Izuku spoke for her, and ratted out her complaining, while also trying to think of better terms to describe her and her sisters. He wanted to figure out something to tell his Mom about Mother, but just saying you were chosen to be a figure that would stand against an actual god incarnate was a bit much. Inko had been happy with that answer and tucked into eating her diner.
They ate with small bits of conversation being shared and Hope interacted as best she could. Inko had gone out of her way to include her in certain things, which had made her appreciate the woman. It was nice to be included like this, as she wasn't sure whether or not others would do the same since they would probably be view as an extension of Izuku's supposed quirk.
Hope had given him suggestions for things to call them, and helper was the least demeaning. Hope wasn't sure he'd be able to call them daughters. He'd probably pass out from embarrassment, which always brought a light smile to her face. That term was what Mother gave them, since they shared her looks and a portion of her strength. Memory had stuck with that name, since it seemed he thought of them as his children.
Her mind wandered down a darker path, she could remember the anguish Memory suffered every time a daughter died due to a plan falling apart. She didn't blame him for her sisters demise, no plan survives contact with the enemy. It was foolish to think otherwise, but Memory still anguished over those mistakes. Memory would often use whatever memories he could find to strengthen them. He would sacrifice pieces of himself for their survival.
She could see qualities Izuku shared with Memory, they both cared greatly for others than themselves.
"I was thinking to get a little bit of training done? I don't really have an idea of what I can even do, and I need to know what other aspects I'm missing."
Hope nodded and started writing out her explanation of what he should be able to do.
"You should be able to summon three weapons. My soul pistols, A sword and a lance and shield combo. You have the ability to call forth more of my sisters, and I believe they'll be more than useful. You might have to put up with a few of their eccentricities but if you just be yourself I'm pretty sure that you'll win them over." Hope painstakingly took her time with making sure her letters came out right, while making sure it made sense. She hated the fact that she had to learn to do this.
"They'll listen to you, you are their leader." Red intoned, Hope tilted her head at her mother's voice. She wasn't too sure about that, Faith was hot-headed while Desire was more practical. They could follow orders but she didn't think Izuku would send them to their possible deaths or anything too dangerous for them. That meant they might have a bit of a problem with following orders.
Hope considered that she might have to let him know the reason she followed orders without question that day.
"I think you should prepare yourself, if you can at least get a better grasp on what Mother has gifted you. They'll have no issues following you Izuku. I'll vouch for you and then you'll get a pretty even chance with them." Hope wrote down, while trying to downplay a few things. "I may have to teach you a few of my moves. It'll make it more believable, that you have my seal of approval. I know Mother's is important but I'm the eldest, I should show that you've got my full confidence after all!" She grinned as she handed him the notebook, and waited for his input.
"Who should bring out next?"
"Faith, You'll need someone who is more damage orientated next, then focus on a guardian which Desire can fill out nicely. Hope is more of a middle grounder, she has experience that she can use to teach you. She was in charge whenever our previous commander was unable to lead. She has led numerous successful missions, and I'm sure she can be a boon to your growth as a Hero." Mother was speaking plainly, but Hope felt it was more like she was describing them as tools. Hope didn't know how to think about that and was hoping that Izuku didn't comment on it.
"Can only three be here?"
"No, It's just these are the only three that haven't been lost to time. I can provide you with other's, they'll be new and untested but can learn. They'll know the basics of using their weapons but any of the techniques that Hope, Faith and Desire know will not be known to them. I am giving my new daughters something better to look forward with higher hopes for the future." Mother's statement had a few things that needed to be unpacked, and it seemed that Izuku sensed the uncertain emotions that seemed to be overflowing from Mother.
"D-do you feel guilty?" Izuku asked nervously, seeing as he had to be a voice to ask such questions.
"I-" Mother sighed and seemed to withdraw her presence from the forefront of their minds. "I wish that my daughters hadn't needed to hold back such a fate. I want so much more for them, they are my daughters but I've lost so many of them due to my mistakes and hubris. I think you need to understand what it is that you face against, Izuku Midoriya do you remember what I told you on our first meeting?"
Izuku blinked slowly as he recalled those words, Hope watched on with a feeling of cold dread. He shouldn't have to worry about that monstrous god, it had to remain trapped. She didn't want to die to those things anymore, his head snapped at her in a moments notice.
Izuku worked his jaw as he looked at her and Hope felt her panic rise, she slipped and let some of her emotions slip out. It wouldn't do to have him worrying about her, she had to keep a smile and help him. She waved him off with an attempted smile, but it must have come off as a grimace as Izuku seemed even more concerned about her.
"Suffering shall never take you."
Mother gave a small chuckle, "those words are more than just words. They are a prayer and a desperate hope, that I never want to see my daughters fall to such a fate. Suffering is a god made Incarnate, a being that propagated the reality we hail from with monsters. It was a never-ending fight, I would use my powers to reset the loop when we lost. I had trapped them in a limbo with us as a distraction from being able to attack other realities. It was getting to be a hopeless endeavor, our commander was fading his mind failing him. His last order was for me to search for someone to take his place and hope that I'd have time to train them to take his place. You are my chosen hero, Izuku you are far more important than you could ever imagine. In that reality, I was able to look into the tapestry of time and fate. I searched for a suitable replacement for our commander."
Mother seemed to be nervous about what came next. She was unsure how to talk about this next part, Hope was worried. If it made Mother uncomfortable then it wasn't going to be a happy subject.
"I had found you, I have seen how time flows around you. You are capable of so much good and evil, there are timelines, separate realities if you will, where you are either a great hero or villain. The one thing that remains the same is that you always try to change the world for what you believe in."
"What did you see in this one?" Izuku asked there was a hint of curiosity in his voice. Mother gave off a slight uncomfortable emotion, like she wasn't sure how to explain this.
"You disappeared after the entrance exam, I was unable to find you. It was almost as if you vanished off the face of the earth. I had intervened, breaking the barrier to connect with you. The future from here is hidden from me, I'm no longer a spectator unable to participate. I am a part of the play, so I am unable to warn you of future events if that is what you wish of me."
"I see." Izuku's emotions were a turbulent mix of sadness and disgust, but they were more aimed at himself. He wasn't upset at Mother for not giving him the whole story a few days ago. He seemed to make up his mind soon after and just gave a small chuckle. "I know, what might of happened. I just took some advice since I probably didn't make it into UA."
Hope felt uncomfortable as she felt how frigid his emotions were. They were rigid and broken off into sharp points of pain that seemed to smack into Hope's heart. She felt empathy for the boy, she could understand falling off into nothing. She had more than her own fair share of practice when she died in battle. She could only hope that he didn't actually die, but Mother just lost track of him.
"I trust that you will live up to these expectations that I have laid upon you. I wish that it wasn't needed but you have to be ready. I don't have any clue whether that monster will be able to follow us." Mother sounded as if she was truly trying to convey the importance of what her words meant. Hope didn't expect Izuku to immediately be onboard with the idea of fighting a certifiable god. She felt his determination rise and a certain amount of excitement, that made her blink at him slowly. Hope didn't feel like being excited about fighting a god was a normal reaction for any stretch of the imagination.
"I'll do my best!"
(Four Weeks and three days Later) AN: Basing timeline loosly around one made by chaotickairos on reddit.
Hope stood next to Izuku as they stood outside of those gates, she observed him closely. His entire body language was tense, he seemed like he wanted to shrink into his own shadow. Hope sidled up to him and slung an arm around him, dragging him into her frame. He let out a shocked gasp of air, he struggled for a few seconds until he gave up. She grinned down at him, glad that she still had a few inches on him. It wouldn't be long until he got taller than her, she hoped that she grew a bit more back into her original height at least. He offered back a smile as they made their way toward the building. Her long red scarf fell along his shoulder as the walked together. It was a bit of an awkward walk, but She was in a good mood. It could be ignored, it was getting easier to walk in step the longer they moved in sync.
She lightly tapped him on the head with the notebook she used for writing out requests and conversation. It was a gift from Inko, who didn't have the same emotional connection that Izuku shared with her. It made getting ideas across easier, but learning how to write was a bit of a pain. She was able to understand the words spoken around her, but being able to write was different. She apreciated the effort that Inko and Izuku put into helping her it was a refreshing wind that helped her feel like she was actually Hope again. She already had so many new things that once her other sisters' arrived it would be easier to help them adjust. She was looking forward to teaching Faith and Desire how to Write, the frustration alone would be worth it.
"Move you shitty extras!" A voice seemed to roar at them. She watched as a boy with blond hair and what seemed like a permanent scowl stalk his way past them without a second look. She blinked owlishly, her eyes looking down at Izuku to see what he thought just happened. Hope felt a large amount of concern when she watched the color drain from Izuku's face. His eyes lost what little shine they had and it seemed like he was falling into a pit of depression. She gave him a quick jostle, as she pulled him in a hug. Her movements were jerky, but he seemed not to mind. That was the best she could do, since she wasn't able to have a voice. Her mind buzzed as she thought of something more she could do, his nonresponse attitude making her worried.
Hope felt her heart hammer in her chest as that look reminded her of her lost sisters. The ones who gave up, the ones who just willingly died and asked for their names to be forgotten. That was what the look on his face reminded her of, a tortured soul that thought fading away was the answer to their pain. It was as if his soul was scarred by something and its grip on him never loosened itself. She remembered her sisters that were stolen away and twisted into an enemy. She thought of her fellow soul slinger's twisted into a painslinger.
Hope cleared her mind of such thoughts as she focused on her comrade. He wasn't that far gone, it wouldn't be allowed to happen. Her mind whispered that Suffering was a god incarnate, it was a being that could do what it wished. If it was strong enough to break her sister's maybe it's reach through reality was all encompassing. Mother was also doing her best to console Izuku, her emotions were a blend of concern and care. She was grateful that Mother was present, if she didn't say anything about Suffering that meant it was still trapped somewhere. Hope was terrified that it would one day be able to follow them through to this world. She followed her Mother's example and presented emotions in an attempt to snap him out of his funk.
She pushed as much of her emotions to him as she could. She shared anything that he could lean against. She propped him up with compassion, settled his mind with understanding, helped him pull himself back with care. She threw everything and the kitchen sink at keeping him from going under, this wasn't something that could be ignored. It would fester and rot inside, then it would corrupt. She felt Mother's concern and a prompting, almost nagging feeling. She wanted some answers it seemed, and Hope found herself agreeing with the sentiment.
Who was that? What had He done to him?
Those questions burned at her mind, and Hope carefully moved them towards the building. She wouldn't let him be late but she sure as hell wouldn't allow him to be this fractured on her watch. She allowed Curiosity and a sliver of her fury to make its way to Izuku.
He chuckled hollowly as he raised his head from her side. His eyes blank and it made her soul shiver with rage, this wasn't right. He was someone important to the future, why would the universe have treated him this way.
"That was an old friend. He gave me a great suggestion, but I couldn't bring myself to act on it. I couldn't risk missing the entrance exam." There was so much despair, so much pain and sadness that those words evoked from him. The loneliness that almost seemed to try eating what little happiness remained inside him. Hope squeezed him tight, and shoved the doors to the school open roughly. She felt the wood creak under her push, she made sure not to use any of her strength on Izuku. She grabbed his attention with puff of air, that escaped her in a sigh.
She gave him a grin and pointed to herself, while giving a silent laugh. She hoped that a distraction could help him, and acting was one of her best qualities.
"Yeah, you and Red are the best thing that happened to me that day. I would have disappeared if Red didn't step in." He stated while his eyes seemed to water, he dropped his head. He would have hit the ground if it wasn't for Hope keeping him standing and moving.
She grimaced internally, how could she get his mood up instead of him spiraling out. At that moment a light bulb went off, she would use the truth. She swapped her notebook to the hand holding him close. She grabbed him by the chin and made him face her, She gave him a frown shaking her head. She gave an emotion of disagreement, then she smiled and pointed at him. She gave him the gratitude she felt at being pulled from that hell, and being able to walk here in the real world. She watched as he sucked in a breath between his teeth, she gave playful tap to his forehead.
"Do you mean that its the other way round?" His feet seemed to be able to support his weight, his slouch seemed to straighten out. He seemed to remember that he was someone Chosen by a powerful entity. His eyes regained a little bit of life back in them, Hope kept propping him up with her body and emotions. She wouldn't let go until he asked her too.
She gave him a large amount of positive feelings. There was no way she would ever lie about how important escaping was to her, and she was sure Mother was aware of her feelings. He grinned up at her, his emotions no longer feeling like an all encompassing bleak cloud. "I appreciate that, but I will always be grateful to you and Red. If I was left to my devices, I'm sure that I would've ended up in the general courses."
Hope watched him carefully, he seemed to be back to normal. She kept him trapped in her side, refusing to allow him to far from her. He was important to Mother and she wouldn't let him hurt himself by wallowing in those horrible feelings.
The comfortable silence they had from earlier came back, and Izuku seemed to be calming down. He took deep breaths and seemed to be trying to center himself. She grasped her book, and opened it up to a page with general phrases and questions.
"Would that be so bad?"
Izuku paused as he seemed to think something over, and She stayed next to him as they walked down the hall. She knew where his classroom was and kept track of how much distance was between them. They would be on time, before the class was supposed to begin.
"No, maybe it wouldn't have been that bad. I know my mom would have been happy, she wouldn't have to worry that I'd be hurt. I probably would have been forced to search for a new dream to pursue. The only quirkless heroes I know of exist in comic books before quirks." His mind seemed to whirl with his thoughts. That alone brought relief back to Hope, it seemed he was getting his equilibrium back. Hope wasn't to sure about that, but she didn't question him. It wouldn't do to have such a conversation in a public place.
Hope heard the voice of the boy that had caused Izuku to lose something of himself. It was coming from the classroom they were heading for, Hope decided then and there to kick the universe in the teeth for being cruel. Izuku didn't seem to be falling down that pit again but she kept him by her side, his emotions stayed the same. He gave her a smile as he was still trapped in her headlock, or hug. She pushed open the large door for him, and made sure to keep him hidden by her side.
They walked into the class unnoticed by most of the already present students. Hope kept her head pointed forward and focused on where Izuku stepped in order to make it unnoticed that she was hiding him from the blonde menace. She kept any and all emotions neutral, Izuku didn't need her getting mad for him. She was only there to be a supportive friend, someone he could lean on when he needed it.
Izuku looked at the seat registry and lead the way to his desk, Hope stayed glued to his side. She could feel Mother's concern and prodding, giving Hope an order to help him. It was an easy enough request, Hope was used to keeping Morale up. He set his stuff down and Hope sat in the desk in front of him.
"Feeling Any Better?"
"Yes, thanks for asking. I think I can do it, even when Bakugou notices me I can ignore whatever he says. I have practice in that at least." Izuku sounded happy, but Hope remembered how he folded. The guy didn't even notice him from earlier, that alone suggested that maybe he wasn't as prepared as he thought.
Hope gave him a supportive thumbs up, hoping that this wouldn't come back in bite them in the ass. She was already sure that something was going to happen between the two of them. It was inevitable, because at some point the guy would have take his eyes off the front of the room and look around. Izuku seemed like the type of person you wouldn't forget in a crowd, Hope looked at his bushy dark green hair. She was however happy to say that she had his back, and when her sister's were around he might be able to make a few friends besides them. She didn't want him to be stuck with a bunch of damaged goods. She turned back around in her seat and started to draw, she made a sketch of her sisters. She even detailed their weapons' right, Faith's sword and Desires Shield and spear. The one good thing about waiting to be called forth was that time didn't pass for them. It would just be a sudden new place, while a month had passed for her.
"What are you drawing?" Hope felt her skin crawl at the unfamiliar voice that was too close to her. She resisted the urge to attack, freezing in place like a deer in headlights. She turned her head and meet someone with golden eyes and black sclera, it wasn't exactly shocking. The girl's pink skin on the other hand wasn't something that was familiar to her. She was the exact same color as a few of the flowers that she would look at in the park. She waved slightly, and gave a quick glance behind her. She groaned internally as Izuku was already lost in his own little world, jotting down his observations about everyone's quirk that he could see. She knew that if she needed to she could just hit him with some annoyance and he'd drop his book.
"My Sisters."
"Really, they look real cool! Are they already Heroes?" The pink skinned girl questioned excitedly, her eyes seeming to sparkle. Hope shook her head, keeping a polite smile on her face.
"They are the same age as me, they might be showing up later though."
"So umm, I've kinda got to ask but what's with the book?"
Hope snorted in amusement, and opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out. The girl's pink skin seemed to darken as she blinked slowly.
"I-I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything! Umm, my name is Mina Ashido and I would like it if you forgot about that."
"Hope and no worries, I find it funny when people ask."
The girl seemed to smile at that, Hope found herself wondering if it would be possible to make friends in this reality. She wondered slightly but pushed that away, she would wait and see how they took her being a part of Izuku's "quirk" then move from there.
"I'm so sorry for judging you so harshly, it seemed you understood something about the test that I didn't." The boy who had been scolding Bakugou came and bowed deeply beside Izuku's desk.
"No, I just got lu-"
"Deku, what are you doing here!" It seemed the boy had noticed him after all, a part of her just prepared for violence. She could see how his eyes dilated with rage as he stared at Izuku. Hope leaned herself into his line of sight, blocking Izuku from his glare.
Izuku didn't react other than giving a shaky smile as he stood slightly to meet Bakugou's gaze. "H-hi Kacchan, I seem to have made it into the Hero course."
Bakugou stared at him, and Hope watched curiously as a muscle in his neck bulged as he seemed close to exploding.
"Hmm, it seems that some of you are in your seats but others aren't. How illogical, get to your seats now." A man's voice spoke from a sleeping back that had somehow opened the door. The man seemed to have interrupted whatever confrontation that Bakugou was about to have with Izuku. He waited for a few seconds, and he emerged from the sleeping bag. It revealed a man who looked disheveled and almost as if he was about to drop dead from exhaustion.
"It took you lot eight seconds to quiet down." The man spoke while his scarf wrapped around his neck in multiple loops. "Life is short, kids. You're all lacking in common sense."
"He has to be a pro hero." Izuku softly muttered, his curiosity was bright and all encompassing. Hope listened in as he thought about which pro heroes could fit this man's appearance.
"I'm your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shouta. Pleasure meeting you." Aizawa introduced himself, then immediately reached into his sleeping bag to pull out a gym uniform. "Wear these. Immediately" His voice bored, making his order sound like a threat. "And then go to the P.E. grounds."
Aizawa left without a word and so they moved to fulfil his order. The whole class races to the locker rooms, Hope followed the girls. Her uniform was easy to remove, it's original colors coming back once it was removed from her presence. She slipped on the gym clothes easily enough, she ignored all the talking from the others. The bright blue becoming a dark grey while the white accents faded into a light gray.
Hope felt annoyed that all colors faded when they entered her personal space. It was limited to clothing and inorganic things. She was grateful for that, maybe it would fade in time. She wanted to be able to have some color in her new wardrobe.
She left the locker room and made her way to the Grounds. she waited patiently with Aizawa for the rest of the class. Hope gave the man a wave, while keeping her notebook close. He gave her a questioning look, before some sort of recognition bloomed on his face. He returned the greeting while he looked at his stopwatch.
Hope counted the seconds, Izuku arrived and approached her soon after. He was one of the first few students to make it to the grounds.
"I'm still trying to figure out who he is. He may look washed up, but I have so many heroes memorized and analyzed that I'm sure if I looked I could find his entry. He seems to be like he doesn't enjoy being awake, maybe he only operated in a heroic capacity at night. His hero outfit is dark colored to help him fit in with the shadows, keep eyes off him and slink around. He has to be an underground Hero, someone who obviously avoids the spotlight. His eyes seem to be a bit bloodshot and irritated, he's keeping them shut and seems to take his time blinking. Does his quirk have something to do with his eyes?" Izuku started trailing off into unintelligible mutters, but Hope just stood by and listened.
She wasn't willing to knock him back to reality just yet. It felt as if he was getting close to some sort of revelation about who this was. Hope wouldn't lie and say she wasn't curious about the identity of this man.
"Quiet down, I've brought you here for a quirk apprehension test."
"Wait, what about the entrance ceremony? I thought we had to meet the guidance counselor?" A girl with brown hair and rosy cheeks was the first to question him.
"If you want to be heroes, we don't have time for frilly niceties. This school offers a freedom on campus to students, that also extends to the teachers here as well."
He looked over his students with a cold disinterest eyes as he watched them. He wasn't saying anything waiting for a reaction.
"Softball pitch, Standing long jump, fifty meter dash, grip strength test, sustained sideways jumps, upper body exercises and seated toe-touch. I would imagine you are all familiar with these tests from middle school. In those tests you were barred from using your quirk, but now I want you to use your quirks for them. I want you to apply your quirks where possible."
"Bakugou, how far could you throw a softball in middle school?"
"sixty-seven meters." He answered shortly, while waiting at the pitcher stand.
"Use your quirk and don't leave the circle, anything you do is fine."
Bakugou stood at the stand, as he reared his arm back his palm seemed to glow. "Die!" He roared as he launched the ball into the sky, the explosion was loud enough to remind her of Faith's more destructive sword skills.
"Before anything else, one must know what they're capable of. I find this a more logical base for your hero foundation." Aizawa turned the device in his hand showing that the ball had reached Seven hundred and five meters. Hope blinked at that number, while listening to the murmering from the other students. They seemed to be excited to use their quirks during this test.
"Awesome that looks like fun!" Hope watched as the man seemed to grow offended, his whole demeanor changed.
"It looks fun. . . you say?" Aizawa had an evil aura growing around him. "Is this how you are going to spend three years here while trying to become heroes. In response to not taking this seriously, new rule: The student who ranks last in total points will be judged "Hopeless" and instantly expelled."
Hope nodded at his words, she understood his reasoning. Izuku talked about how heroes would stand and protect people from dangerous scenarios. They have to stand tall and throw themselves into danger, this isn't something to be taken lightly. The excited murmuring died down and became stilted.
Hope peeked at Izuku while giving him a nudge. How was this supposed to work for them?
"Aizawa Sensei? What about me and Hope?"
"Hmm, just take the tests and I'll judge how it goes by the end. I want you both to take the tests normally." Aizawa gave them a critical eye, his mind seemed to be trying to find a method of testing them both.
"Thank you."
Hope watched the rest of the glass shoot them a look, she and Izuku were close to one another. She opened up her notebook, wanting to ask if Izuku had a handle on what he could now do.
"Everything in order?" She scratched it down, and handed it over with a curious tilt of her head.
"Red gave me the rundown. It took a while but I don't need her to hold my hand anymore. I can easily bring forth weapons and make the sacrifice. I'll have to keep my mind quick on my analyzations, use what fits the situation best." Izuku gave her a nervous smile, and handed the book back.
"Nervous?"
Izuku seemed to pale at her stare, he nodded with a tight smile. She gave him a thumbs up, and offered a small smile in return. She gave him a feeling of support, hoping that he knew that she has his back.
"Yeah, I don't want to lose this chance to reach my dream."
Hope nodded her head, and went to watching the rest of the students. She watched them try to listen in on their conversation. She saw the confused looks they were giving them, as well as some of the eyes looking at her notebook. She shrugged it off as Aizawa started calling out names for the standing long jump.
They watched how everyone used their quirks, some excelled at making the mark while it was a little underwhelming for some.
"Hope and Midoriya." She blinked and tilted her head, were they supposed to make the jump together?
They stood side by side, Hope pulled her guns out. Izuku tried to mimic the movement and a singular gun appeared.
"Begin."
Hope leapt into the air and twisted her body, aiming the gun at the ground. She pulled the trigger, causing the air to crack as the gun barked. The power of the shot propelling her through the air. She twisted her body at the apex and fell towards the ground feet first, as she stood she turned back and offered a wave. Izuku stood stock still and Hope knew he was trying to find a way to incorporate her move.
He leapt into the air, using both hands to hold the gun. He pulled the trigger and the resulting blast pushed him into the sky. He was hurtling into the sky at the correct angle, Hope watched with a hand on her chin as she critiqued his form. He didn't glide, it more looked like he was falling through the sky without grace.
She observed the white knuckle grip and felt a bit of a sigh. She'd have to go over shooting lessons with him, he wanted a tight grip but not one that transmitted his shaking throwing off his aim. He however perfectly executed the right amount of power into the shot, giving it enough power to propel him through the air. She reached out her arm as he came hurtling towards her, easily catching him. She placed him on the ground quickly enough without any fanfare, he was easy to lift with her amount of strength.
"All right, that was good distance and impressive use of your quirk Midoriya. I can see the logic of following your quirks example and showing that you are capable of similar feats."
The murmurs of the class started again, their gazes on them judging. Aizawa immediately scowled at them, "Get going to the fifty meter dash!" His harshly barked order sending them scurrying off in the direction of the track. Hope and Izuku made their way over with a slight lag, they might have had some time before Aizawa called them again.
"It's time for another daughter to show up." Mother said out of nowhere making Hope whip her head in Izuku's direction, a large grin on her face. Izuku gave a nervous smile and nodded. He felt anxious but there was a bit of understanding behind it.
Hope watched with excitement, giddily clapping her hands as the imitation blood dripped from his hands. It seemed they had caught the rest of the classes attention, there were a few gasps of concern and shocked whispers but Hope shoved it all away from her. The only thing that mattered to her was that one of her sisters were going to be joining her.
The blood puddled at his feet and extended, Hope watched as Faith's arms shot out the puddle. She clambered out quickly, sloshing the blood around with her erratic movements. She stood and gave Izuku the most puzzled look, until Hope latched herself on her back. She dragged her sister into her chest with a explosive joy, that seemed to be so infectious that Izuku smiled as well.
Izuku took a step forward and stuck out his hand to Faith, "Nice to meet you Faith, Hope has told me a lot about you!"
AN: All right second chapter in such a short time. I had fun writing this from Hope's perspective but I miss writing it from Izuku's. Next chapter is his perspective, also this story is from their perspectives during certain situations. I'll go ahead and say they are definitely unreliable narrators. The game X-Over is Othercide for those of you who are wondering. I will go ahead and admit that it may not be a hundred percent lore accurate but I'll give the old college try. I hope that I did good fleshing out her character, and making it seem realistic. I am writing this by the edge of my seat, that is why it might take longer sometimes to release chapters and I have an attention problem. I can skip around in conversations without noticing that I may have missed a few steps. I blame my ADHD, since I can sometimes become way to distracted.
I'll remind people that I do have a Ko-Fi but it is only there for people who want to help me out and appreciate what I do. I'll keep working on this story, and I may end up going insane at some point but meh, I find it an interesting challenge.
