Chapter 1 Conrad was asleep in the on-call room trying to sleep from a 12-hour shift then he got woken up at 6:30 am by a buzzing sound he could hear and it was his pager going off, he rolls over in bed to see what his pager says and he seen it's a 911 from the E.R he bounced out of the bed grabbed his light grey scrub and opened the door and started running down the hallway putting his scrub top on then Irving seen Conrad running down the hallway half asleep they both got to the E.R at the same time.
They both saw the paramedics come in with a patient on the gurney, the patient heart has stopped they know that because one of the paramedics has one of their hands on the chest as doing CPR they rush the patient into bay 1 they both ran over to the patient and the paramedics are still doing CPR and the other is standing near the gurney.
"How long has he been down," Conrad asked them.
"He has been down for 25 minutes," one of them told Conrad.
"let's call it," Conrad said asked everyone he looked around and everyone agreed with him.
"Time of death 6:45 am," Conrad said while looking at his watch then walked off to the nurse's desk and grab the tablet and sat down and wrote the report on the patient who has sadly died
"hey Conrad we got in coming," Irving told Conrad loudly
"do you know what we got," Conrad asked Irving
"drug user all I know if it's straightforward you want it" Irving hinted at Conrad, shrugging his shoulders that his way of saying yes then suddenly they heard loud screaming he started to walk over then he recognise the woman who came in it's Anna Gellar sister of Chloe. They put her in bay 5 Conrad walked to her, she is trying to get off the gurney so she can do a run for it Conrad grab a spin chair and sat on it next to anna
"hey anna you remember me, I treated your sister a few years ago" Conrad babbled at anna, Conrad did not know that she has a syringe of anaesthesia in her bag.
"no you all killed her, don't make me angry I will hurt you," Anna told Conrad and she was right up in his face
"no I don't want that to happen let us help you, are you taking, Dilaudid, Crystal Meth, Cocaine" Conrad tried to insure her, he did not know very soon he is going to be flat out on the floor.
"dr Hawkins please get out of my face or just get out of the room," she told him
"I'm not getting in your face or getting out of the room" Conrad very strongly told her
"can you get my bag for me," she asked him, and he agreed with her. He went over to get it and got it to give to her.
She saw the box that has a syringe in so she took her phone out and had a fake angry face on and throw her phone across the room Conrad went to get it and give it to her.
She got up and hug him.
"I am so sorry for what I did I think I need help," anna told Conrad while her face is full of fake tears he stabbed him with the syringe, but he didn't feel the syringe going into his side but as well Anna thought she gives him adenosine and bit of anaesthesia instead of just anaesthesia. Then Conrad stopped hugging her and then sat back on the stool.
"you need to tell me what you are on" Conrad demanded from her, she shook her head, and he got up from the stool and left the room without saying anything he went over to Irving "for my patient I need blood tests and a sample of urine and ..." Conrad stop talking " Irving my chest hurts" Conrad struggling to breathe then he collapsed Irving rushed over to him check his pulse he couldn't feel anything
"code blue" he yelled then started CPR on Conrad, and nurse Hundley came over
"what happened," she asked Irving
"I don't know he was telling he wants to do some test then he grabs his chest he collapsed and then his heart stop I need a gurney now page who is on-call," he told Hundley
"Conrad was the person on call there is no one else we are on our own but I will try and find someone," she told him
Irving did CPR for 20 minutes his heart started again he opened his eyes Conrad started coughing
"what happened," Conrad asked them, they told him what happened Conrad got off the floor and started to walk away
"Conrad where are you going, your heart stopped for 20 minutes we need to check you out," Irving told Conrad
"I need to do something," Conrad told Irving and walked away
He left to go to the resident lounge he sat in there then Nic came in.
"Hey, are you okay I heard about what happened? You need to check out like now we don't need you dying again" Nic anxious at Conrad
"well Nic I did get checked out they said I should be fine I need to take a day off " Conrad lied to Nic
"that's good" Nic was happy about Conrad telling her
"so I'm at the end of my shift and looking at the time and you finished in 5 minutes we can go back to mine and chill out" Conrad trilled to Nic, then she looked at Conrad
"Conrad we broke up stopped trying to get with me it's never going to happen again and I do not trust you, you hurt me I know what happened to you was not good doesn't give you a reason to try and hit on me again" Nic snapped at Conrad
" I thought we never had a problem, I thought we were all good you came here to see if I'm okay " Conrad shrugged to Nic
"yeah I came to check on you but before today you were never there for me, I was always there for you" Nic yelled at Conrad
"don't start shouting at me I was asking you and before you start I was there, so you say I was not there for you, who was there when lane got you in jail who got you out me asking my father to help but he pay your bail fee this conversation is over" Conrad raged at Nic, then Conrad walked out of the resident lounge and went home.
