In the deep recesses of his mind, Shinji Ikari sat in front of a projector. Behind him stood Rei Ayanami, however, she was now more Lilith than Rei.
"What is this?" He asked her.
She gave him a puzzled look.
"This is the world you wish for Ikari. A world in which you do not exist."
He watched as the images flashed by before settling on two people. A woman with red hair with a man he couldn't recognize.
"Is that... Asuka?"
"Yes"
He wanted to look away, to shut his eyes and cover his ears, he wanted no part in the games Lilith was playing.
Despite his attempts though, he could not find the strength to do so, and could only watch on in despair.
After a few moments the scene changed again, now showing Asuka standing at a window, sorrow painted on her face.
"Why does she look like that?" Shinji asked Rei.
"She is unhappy."
Shinji did not respond.
The scene faded, and was replaced by Asuka with another man.
Shinji hated what he was watching, it was a pain like no other he experienced, and he couldn't even explain to himself why he felt it.
The scenes continued on and faded over and over, always Asuka and a man he couldn't see.
An indiscernible amount of time had passed since he arrived here, he couldn't even remember how many times he'd watched these scenes.
The light faded once again and a new scene begun to play.
Though this one was different, Shinji recognized the man in this one.
"no..." he breathlessly whispered.
He watched on in sorrow, for what felt like eternity.
"Stop this... please." He muttered.
He pushed himself from the chair and fell into water he didn't even know was there.
Rei did not falter at his cries.
"Why? This is the reality you wish for, is it not?"
Shinji looked at her, with tears streaming down his face.
"No, I don't want that! Asuka always unhappy and with other men!? I want to be with her and make her happy for the rest of my life! Even after I die... I want her to be happy for a while! 10 years, atleast!"
Lilith simply looked ahead and in the next moment the theater was gone, and he stood in an ankle deep ocean.
"Congratulations Ikari, you have found your real self."
