Author's Note: So... how about another multichapter, yes? This is my first Omegaverse!AU fic I have ever written so please forgive me if I make any mistakes. I am referencing a list I found on Wattpad as I go along and tweaking some aspects of it as well to better fit my narrative.
For example: I am going to be using the terms/ranks "Delta" and "Gamma" throughout and alongside "Alpha, Beta, Omega". A "Gamma" in my world, is considered the lowest rank, essentially a scapegoat "Yes, X" sort that also has the ability to keep the other ranks balanced and focused with their aura and presence. They are called upon for anything, really, as you will see as this story progresses.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Footnote in a File
It had been a long time since Ravonna asked for Mobius' presence that didn't involve work, but he wasn't going to complain about it, either. Especially when she was stretched out on the long, black sofa in her office cuddling a khaki-colored pillow with her bare back exposed to him. Her hair was wrapped in a simple orange bandanna to keep it from obstructing her elegant neck and shoulders. He stood over her, gliding his lotion-slicked hands over the slopes of her back and spine, making her brown skin glisten and glow under the lowlight.
The scent of eucalyptus and spearmint overpowered the natural smells of the room—of her. Or, at least the scent of her he'd imagined it was after piecing together details of it, anyway (cinnamon mixed with damp earth and oak tree bark). He wasn't built to pick up scents; as a Gamma, he was only gifted with the ability to keep others focused and relatively calm and provide ways to destress them as needed. He was considered the lowest rank despite his duties, having the ability to aid every rank in some way but regarded as little else, but he never let that get to him. He was good at his role, whether it was keeping the peace among the rest or sating them of their needs, he was there. Regardless, he would still savor the imaginary aroma anyway.
Right now he was providing relaxation to his Alpha after she endured a very long day of holding trials to the Variants who violated their role in the Sacred Timeline. It wasn't something that she often asked for, so he made sure to do his absolute best to please her during this rare time alone together.
The TVA had a strict regime for every rank in the pack, allowing for them to work efficiently and consistently on their never ending task to keep the Timeline safe. It was Ravonna's job to make sure everyone followed their tasks and delegate judgment on the Time-Keepers behalf, keeping everything operating like the well-made machine that they all were.
Mobius worked a knot at the small of Ravonna's back, eliciting a soft moan from her in the process as he expertly encouraged the muscle to relax, stroking the lower back again once he was satisfied it was loosened. She shivered at this, and he smiled despite himself at the response. He wondered if she would want to take this a step further and release built up tension he knew she always harbored in her core. It was his job, after all.
This meeting couldn't be at a better time for Mobius, however. Being in charge of research and analysis of the countless Variants that cause the most trouble for the TVA, finding ways to contain them was his specialty, and he happened to stumble upon a curious bit of information in a file relevant to the current Most Wanted Variant on the loose Ravonna had been chasing over countless years. If he manages to convince her just how useful this footnote about the Variant is, they could potentially be closing the case within a week, two at most.
"Better?" Mobius asked softly, not wanting to disturb the calm quiet of the room.
Ravonna hummed thoughtfully as Mobius finished working in the lotion near her shoulders before wiping his hands clean on the orange hand towel laying on the end table.
"I forget how skilled you are with your hands, Mobius," she said, turning her head to face him but made no effort to get up. "I should utilize you far more often than I do."
"It's what I am here for," he replied casually, folding the towel he used to clean his hands before reaching for the shimmering bronze robe on the chair. "Anything to help ease your mind from the daily grind."
She laughed at the comment, sitting up slowly. Mobius politely held the robe open for her and kept his attention to the floor, though it wasn't as if he'd seen her naked before, quite the contrary in fact, he knew that respect far outweighed everything else, even his own desires and need to please his Alpha needed to be kept in check. He shifted his weight some and gently aided her with the garment when she stood and turned around.
He could sense her watching him as she situated herself. It wasn't as if he was really hiding his wandering thoughts of her nor his want to speak about an ongoing case they've been grappling with for some time now. Of course both of these were inappropriate given the situation.
"You have something on your mind," Ravonna commented, shrugging on the robe. "Wish to share?"
"Am I that easy to read?"
She faced him, tying the robe loosely in the front as he felt her eyes on him again. He kept his hands cupped in front of him and his eyes respectfully trained on her face. She scanned over him and he could see the tip of her tongue flick the corner of her mouth as she casually turned and walked up to her desk. Only when he saw her sit in her chair did he address her fully again. He couldn't help but feel she was teasing him, however. Seeming to know he wanted to discuss something with her but would rather be preoccupied with more entertaining things than work right now. Her robe was still loose, revealing her elegant brown skin, sculpted collarbone and throat, and she had leaned forward some to cause the fabric to hang just enough to…
"Tea?" Ravonna offered, gesturing to the tray Mobius hadn't noticed before.
She had two white mugs, one she already turned over and was pouring the hot water over the teabag. He chewed his lip before moving toward the chair positioned in front of the desk.
"Sure."
She prepared his, adding two sugars, and pushed the mug toward him. He could feel the atmosphere shift from the quiet, euphoric feeling to the more familiar one; serious, business-like. Ravonna leaned back into her chair, blowing on her tea while looking at him. He tapped a light finger on the table before giving it a light stir. She took a sip and sat the mug down, and Mobius focused on stirring his.
"Please don't leave me hanging, Mobius. Tell me what is on your mind."
Sighing, he itched at the back of his head and met her calculating gaze. "You are right now," he admitted.
She smiled at that. "Flattering as always. Yet I doubt your charms are all it is you have in that pretty little head of yours, correct?"
He cleared his throat, tapping on the table again with a finger. "Well, it's about the Variant. I, uh, came across something I feel you'd be quite interested in. The skeleton key to the case, so to speak."
Her dark brow rose suspiciously at this, and Mobius fidgeted with his hands under the scrutinizing gaze. She took her time taking another sip of tea, letting out a long breath through her nose as she collected herself and straightened her posture.
"Go on."
Mobius immediately went to his briefcase and popped it open, pulling the file from it to provide to Ravonna. She flipped it open and looked it over.
"It is another Variant to the one we're after, but this one is… quite unique from the rest," he explained.
Ravonna did not look convinced. Variants had their differences, but they also weren't exactly unique from another, either. If they were, it broke their rules of what role they played on their timeline and were pruned.
"And this Variant hasn't been apprehended yet?"
Mobius simply shook his head. "I bring this one to your attention because of the footnote. It states the status as 'undefined'. I've never seen anything like that."
Ravonna clicked her tongue, closing the file at that. "They haven't matured enough to show signs, or lack thereof?"
"They are certainly old enough to do so, but yet our information doesn't reflect it. Meaning that something—"
"Impossible."
Mobius hadn't seen Ravonna look so serious in a very long time. Her tone alone in the single word reverberated through the room, reinforcing her answer. It would be enough for anyone else to accept whatever it is they were discussing as finished, but Mobius always pushed the boundaries of his rank and purpose.
He knew that Ravonna had to really invoke her Voice to get him to properly obey, something that she had long since given up training him out of the disobedient behavior (he missed that one-on-one training time). He was the only one who ever acted this way with her and she learned how to handle him accordingly. And yet, instead of snapping his mouth shut at her comment, he continued.
"I highly encourage you to read the file on this Variant, Ravonna. You know I wouldn't have brought it up for nothing, and I would never lie to you about something so important," Mobius said, pushing the envelope.
"Important to you, Mobius," Ravonna stated, leaning forward in her high-back office chair, staring down at him across the desk. "I am aware that you believe what you say based on one of our sources, and I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, but this really means nothing. If we have not intervened yet, we will very soon due to this."
Mobius looked away, unable to hold eye contact. Swallowing hard, he rubbed a thumb over the back of his hand, trying to think of a way to get around this predicament.
"I really think that when this Variant is brought in, and this obviously shows it will happen sooner or later, that we should explore them a bit more rather than send them through the machine. I believe it could close the hot case because…" Mobius trailed off, waving a hand around to try and silently convey his meaning.
Ravonna took a deep breath, letting it out in a sigh. "I will consider it. But I will not tolerate hearing about it until I see them in my courtroom, no matter how long it takes. Understand?"
She was good with one-worded commands, Mobius felt it vibrate through his entire being that she was serious about unsaid consequences if he broke her orders. He gave a firm nod in confirmation that he understood, and that he had no desire to anger his Alpha in any way. Ravonna visibly relaxed at his response, slouching back into the black leather chair to sip her tea. He took another drink himself, feeling his throat unusually dry. The anticipation to intercept this Variant reeled though his mind, if he were correct about them, how would Ravonna personally reward him for it?
They were extremely rare, of course. Today was only a glimpse of her allowing lower ranks shower her with such personal requests. He had only experienced Ravonna in rut once in his lifetime, and when she chose him to see it through with her, it was one of the best days of his life to serve her in such a way. Perhaps he could be awarded again after he finally closed on one of Ravonna's most haunting cases she's ever had.
