Perry, Della, and Joy walked into the Parrish mansion. "Wow, this place is huge," Joy said. "You two gonna be able to walk around here?" she joked, "I mean, it's really big."

"Actually, we thought we'd have you get everything we need when we need it," Perry smiled.

"I walked right into that."

"I think you're slipping."

The family walked over to sign the guest book. Max Parrish walked out of one room and said hello. "This must be the Joy I've heard so much about," he said as he held out his hand.

"Nice to meet you," she said politely as she shook his hand.

"I see you have your mother's manners," he joked.

"But she has her father's sense of humor," Della said.

"My condolences, Della," Max said. He left after a few minutes.

Della and Joy went to get something to drink for the three of them. When they were walking back, they saw a woman standing very close to Perry. "Who is that?" Joy asked.

Della didn't answer, but she did pick up the pace. She stood right behind the woman who turned when Perry looked that way. "Della, I've heard so much about you. This must be Joy."

Perry looked at his daughter, "Laura Parrish, this is Joy Mason. Joy, this is the mother of the bride."

The two greeted each other before Laura walked away. "Dad, what is with you and women named Laura?"

Perry looked at his wife, "what?"

"You just let her kiss you."

"On the cheek."

"Let's get something straight, counselor," Della said.

"Uh-oh," Joy mumbled to her father.

"You are not available for other women to kiss. Especially women from your past. I don't care if it's on the cheek, on the hand, or your forehead. You are my husband and mine alone to kiss."

"Yes, dear," Perry said.

"How would you like it if I let a man from my past kiss my cheek?"

Perry knew she was right, "fair point."

The three took their seats for the ceremony. Someone interrupted the ceremony and caused it to be delayed. That same someone was found dead with the bride standing over him, wearing bloody gloves.

Kaitlynn Parrish was arrested and charged with murder. Perry instantly took on her defense. Della called Ken. One day, Perry, Della, and Ken were in Perry's office. Joy offered to hold things down out front. The Parrish family walked in, "hello, Joy," Max said, "I believe your father is expecting us."

"Yes, he is," she said, "I'll let him know you're here." Joy went into her father's office, "daddy, the Parrish family is here."

"Send them in," Perry said. Ken left to investigate while Della stayed. Joy showed the Parrish family in and was about to leave, "actually, Joy, I'd like you to stick around."

"Sure," the girl said and went to sit by her mother.

They discussed the case and the embezzlement accusations. Kaitlynn was worried about her father being suspected and ultimately guilty. "Joy, you have some experience with this," Perry said.

"You do?" Kaitlynn asked.

"My mom was arrested for murder when I was twelve. Honestly, they had a lot of circumstantial evidence, but that would have put her away. If my dad hadn't gotten involved, she would have been found guilty even without a motive. He knows what he's doing."

After the meeting, the Parrish family left. Now, it was time for court.

Perry was questioning the man he had figured out was involved. When he proved it, the man's partner ran up and Perry grabbed him. The two hit the floor. The lights had been out, and when they turned on, Della ran to her husband, but Ken stopped her. Perry went to get help for his shoulder that got hurt in the struggle. Joy started gathering her parent's things. Back at the office, Della and Joy waited for Perry and Ken. When they finally walked in, Perry's arm was in a sling, but he wasn't the one in trouble. "Ken, how dare you?" Della was furious.

"What?"

Joy looked at the man, "next time, just let her go talk to him for a bit."

"You're mad because I stopped you from going to see Perry?"

"He's my husband and I had every right to be there with him."

"So now you want to go wherever he goes?" Ken asked.

"Whoa, Ken," Joy said, "that's uncalled for."

He looked at Della, "you know, throughout this entire ordeal you have become extremely possessive of Perry. So what if Laura kissed his cheek? So what if I had you stay in the courtroom instead of following him? What's the big deal? You spent most of your marriage apart because you didn't want to go where your husband's career took him. So don't sit there and blame me for keeping you from him. You've done that all on your own." Ken stormed out of the office.

Perry walked up to his wife and put his good arm around her as he pulled her in for a hug, but Della gently pushed him away. "No," she said as the tears started to fall. Della grabbed her things and left the office.

Perry turned to his daughter, "any chance I can get a ride home with you?"

"Oh, so now you want me to drive you places," she teased. "Sure," Joy took her father's keys and the two left, "what can I do to Ken and not get arrested?"

"You're not going to do anything to him," Perry said, "and ask me before you do."

That night, Perry stayed home with his wife while Joy went out for a bit. The nineteen-year-old knew the bar that Ken would be at. "You shouldn't be here," the young man said when she walked in.

"Cus I'm under age or cus I'm mad enough to kick your ass?"

"Both," he said.

"Why did you say that to her?"

"I don't know," Ken said, "why have you said some of the things you've said to her?"

"I'm her teenage daughter," Joy said, "it's expected."

"I've just been so frustrated and..."

"And what?"

"Lonely," he said.

"Why don't you call Amy?"

"It wasn't meant to be with us."

"Look, go back with me to the house and apologize to my mom. If you pour enough of your heart out, she'll take pity on you and maybe even help you."

"Yeah, okay," Ken said.

Joy drove the two of them to the Mason house. "Look who I found drowning his sorrows," she said as they entered the room.

"Um, I'm really sorry about what I said. I crossed a line," Ken said. Joy nudged him, "I guess I took out my other frustrations on you and that was wrong. There's no excuse for what I said. Again, I'm sorry."

"Why are you frustrated?" Perry asked.

"It gets boring living alone, being alone."

Della gave him a sympathetic look. Joy turned her head so her mother couldn't see, "got her," she whispered to Ken.

Della stood and walked over to Ken. She hugged him, "it's okay," Della said, "I forgive you."

"Thanks," Ken said.

They let Ken crash on the couch for the night since he had been drinking. Someone would take him back to the bar to get his car before the wedding the next day.
