So after seeing the film, (which I thought was pretty good), Mr. Wolf and Diane Foxington became a new favorite couple of mine (as well many others), even if the film was quite subtle about their relationship in that regard. Granted, I felt their chemistry was quite well done and did plant the seeds for their relationship advancing in a potential sequel or another continuation of some sort.
I based this off of my personal experience with getting my wisdom teeth removed many years ago back in July of 2014 (all four ugh). I tried to make this as accurate as I could not only from my experience but by general knowledge about the procedure as well. That being said some things have been dramatized.
All rights go to Dreamworks and Universal.
For the past few days, Mr. Wolf's mouth, mainly his jaw has been quite sore. Mainly when he's been eating. It got serious enough that he ended up calling his dentist in which he was told to come in immediately.
"Mr. Wolf?"
Upon hearing his name called, Mr. Wolf stood up and began to walk towards the dental assistant in the doorway while also holding his jaw in pain.
"Hello Mr. Wolf, we are going to head right back this way, and go into the first room on the left."
Before long, they were in that room. It was quite a large room with the dental chair in the middle.
"If you can, please take a seat in the chair and I'm going to ask you a few questions."
Mr. Wolf proceeded to do just that, but now holding both sides of his face as the pain suddenly felt sharper.
"Oh, silly me I almost forgot to introduce myself. My name is Jillian by the way. Nice to meet you."
"Why, nice to meet you too." replied Mr. Wolf.
"Thank you."
The assistant then walked over to a computer, which had a chair in front of it and proceeded to take a seat in it while looking at the screen of what appeared to be Mr. Wolf's profile.
"Okay Mr. Wolf by looking at your records, I'm seeing your date of birth as being October 19, 1991, your current height as 6'2", and your current weight is at 163?"
"Yup, that's it."
"Good, good. And just to double check, the reason you've come here is because you've been experiencing jaw pain?"
Mr. Wolf then removed his paws from his face. "That's right, it began a few days ago but it wasn't really painful at first. More like a minor nuisance and just an uncomfortable feeling for the first couple of days. But when I had lunch and dinner yesterday, the pain got much worse. Even when I was brushing my teeth I felt my jaw and overall mouth ache. I had to take a Tylenol just to take the edge off."
As he was saying all of it, the assistant was typing his words on the computer.
"I see, and from one to ten, ten being the worst, how would you rate your pain?"
"Right now, I'd say around a five or six. But when I eat or bite down it easily shoots up to around a seven or eight. That being said there has been some sporadic-
No sooner had he said that, a sudden and sharp pain shot through his jaw.
"Argh!" Mr. Wolf exclaimed as he returned his paws to holding his face.
"Aw, you poor thing. Must be unbearable. But I'm glad you came in." Jillian then got up and walked towards the doorway of the room before stopping and turning around to face Mr. Wolf who himself watched her as she left.
"The dentist should be in within a few minutes." she said before entering the hallway while Mr. Wolf nodded at her.
What did in fact only seem like minutes passed before Mr. Wolf heard the sound of footsteps entering the room and appearing in front of him what looked like the dentist holding a few pieces of paper.
"Hello Mr. Wolf, I'm Dr. Stevens.
"Hey Doc." replied Mr. Wolf.
"So I see you've come in due to some jaw pain you've been having."
"Yeah, it's been nagging at me badly for the past day or so. I don't know what happened."
"Well, that's why you're here. To find out what's up right?"
"Yeah, you're right." Mr. Wolf replied.
"Okay so if you don't mind, I'm gonna take a look in your mouth to see if you have any cavities, inflammation, or anything of the sort."
Dr. Stevens then began to take a sheet off the dental table. To Mr. Wolf, it looked like some sort of pick and a mirror.
Mr. Wolf gulped and suddenly felt his breathing quicken.
Why am I feeling scared all of a sudden? Didn't I call the dentist to see what was wrong? I should be expecting this.
"You okay?" asked Dr. Stevens who heard Mr. Wolf's frantic breathing while putting on his face covering.
"I don't know, I was but then as soon as I saw these tools, I felt a pit in my stomach."
"You're a bit nervous aren't you? If I had to guess you haven't gotten your teeth looked at in a while?"
Mr. Wolf felt himself blush while also looking down and nodding.
"I was always a bit scared of coming to the dentist, and always felt embarrassed at someone looking in my mouth.
Dr. Stevens then smiled. "Well, that's a completely normal reaction, but I can assure you it's nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. You're in good hands, I can assure you."
"Yeah, I guess so." replied Mr. Wolf nonchalantly as his blush began to fade and his breathing now calmed.
"Okay then, I'm going to put the seat back is that okay?" asked Dr. Stevens.
"Sure" Mr. Wolf replied.
The back of the seat was then lowered, with Mr. Wolf following suit. Dr. Stevens then turned on the overhead light.
"Can you please lean your head back a bit and open your mouth wide please?"
"Ahhhhhh"
"Can you keep your tongue down as well? I don't want to accidentally poke it. Keeping it down will also give me a better look at your teeth" said Dr. Stevens as he picked up both the pick and mirror.
Once again, Mr. Wolf complied.
After a few minutes of inspecting both Mr. Wolf's teeth and gums, Dr. Stevens then spoke. "Okay Mr. Wolf, your dental hygiene appears to be overall in fairly good shape. I don't see any cavities, gum disease, or inflammation. So please keep up the brushing, flossing, and mouthwash."
Dr. Stevens then turned off the overhead light and raised the chair back up.
"So, what do you think it is?" Mr. Wolf asked.
"To get a more detailed look, we're going to give you an X-ray to see if or what it picks up." said the dentist as he proceeded to walk to the doorway.
"Follow me, we're going to go down the hall and into that second room down on the right."
Mr. Wolf then got up and followed Dr. Stevens. Eventually, they entered a room in which a tall machine was present in it. Mr. Wolf then stopped and stared at it for a few moments.
"Is this it?"
"Oh yes, it is. You're probably wondering why it looks different than the ones you're used to. This one is called a panoramic X-ray. Do you see that small stick in between those two bars?" Dr. Stevens asked while pointing at it.
Mr. Wolf nodded.
"You're going to walk up, rest your chin on the chin rest, and bite that stick."
That got a wince out of Mr. Wolf.
"Hey doc, that may be a bit too painful. As I said earlier, my jaw and mouth hurt the most when I bite down."
"It's alright Mr. Wolf, you don't need to bite all the way down. Just mainly put your lips on the stick."
"Okay" Mr. Wolf nodded and proceeded to walk towards the X-ray machine. As was instructed, he put his chin down on the chin rest and put his lips on the bite stick.
Dr. Stevens then walked back out of the room with a switch.
"Okay Mr. Wolf just remain as still as you can be. I'm gonna turn on the X-ray and you'll see two bars move around your head for about fifteen to twenty seconds. After that, the picture should be taken." said Dr. Stevens as he pushed the button.
Within a few seconds, the two bars began rotating around Mr. Wolf's head.
At that moment, Mr. Wolf then began to feel a mild pain in his jaw creep up. But he mustered all his strength not to make any movement.
Finally, after what seemed like minutes, the bars slowed down before coming to a full stop.
"All right Mr. Wolf, the X-ray has been taken. In a few moments, the image will show up on the computer in the main room. In that time why don't we make our way back?"
Mr. Wolf nodded in agreement and followed the dentist back into the main room.
The dentist then shook the mouse on the computer and clicked on a file named "M. Wolf."
Mr. Wolf's X-ray then popped up.
"Ah, just as I suspected." said Dr. Stevens.
"What's up?"
"It looks like the root cause of your mouth and jaw pain is your wisdom teeth which are definitely impacted."
"Wisdom teeth?" asked Mr. Wolf slightly confused.
"Wisdom teeth are an extra set of teeth that can begin to grow in one's mouth around the ages of seventeen to twenty-five. Though that is just an estimate, as they can still appear earlier or later than that."
"Then why are they causing me so much pain?" Mr. Wolf asked.
"Well for many, their wisdom teeth come in fairly smoothly and don't cause any problems. But for many others, the teeth, mainly the bottom ones come in at too great of an angle or just don't have enough room to come fully in such as the top ones as seen on your X-ray here."
"So, how do we fix them?"
"When it comes to wisdom teeth causing problems the only way to really 'fix' them is to get them surgically removed."
Mr. Wolf gulped and took a deep breath upon hearing those words.
"So…. I'm gonna have to get them… cut out of me? Oh boy."
I didn't even think of that as a possibility.
"Not to worry Mr. Wolf, you'll be under general anesthesia and fully unaware of anything during the procedure."
"Okay, well that's good I suppose." Mr. Wolf responded feeling a bit more at ease.
"But when should I get it done?"
"I recommend getting it done as soon as possible. The quicker you get them out, the less they'll keep giving you constant pain. If it's okay with you, I'm all open tomorrow so if you want to get the procedure over with then that's fine."
A few seconds went by as Mr. Wolf was contemplating what to do.
I've never gotten any surgery done in my life. At least none that I can remember. But I guess if I want these so called "wisdom teeth" so stop giving me such pain and misery then I guess I should go through with it. Better a professional does it over some random quack on the black market.
"Sure thing Doc." Mr. Wolf said smiling.
"Okay then. If it's okay with you, we'll do it at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning. You'll be the first one in and out that way."
"That's fine with me."
"Then it's set. You're free to go on your way today. Just please stop at the receptionist's desk before you head out."
"Will do" Mr. Wolf replied as he gave Dr. Stevens two thumbs up.
Mr. Wolf then proceeded to head down the hall before stopping at the desk as he was instructed to do so. Upon seeing Mr. Wolf, the receptionist looked up and smiled.
"Okay Mr. Wolf I have been informed that you will be having your wisdom teeth removed tomorrow morning in our office at 8:00 AM?"
"Yup, that's what I've agreed to do and set up, get these annoying little pains out."
"Oh I'm sure you can't wait."
"You got that right." responded Mr. Wolf in a slight chuckle.
"Alright then, just a few things to remember. Since you're having general anesthesia, please don't eat or drink anything after midnight tonight as you must have an empty stomach so there aren't any problems during the anesthesia such as you choking on anything and stuff like that. Now, that being said, you can take a pain reliever such as Tylenol the morning of with a small sip of water. But please don't take any pills that can increase bleeding such as Aspirin or Ibuprofen. Have you taken any in recent days?"
"Nope, I haven't."
Good, good. Also, after the procedure, you'll be a little out of it and probably feel a bit dizzy from the anesthesia so you'll need someone to take you home. Do you have anyone in mind?"
Mr. Wolf suddenly lit up. "Yes in fact I do."
"Good, I recommend having him or her present with you as soon as you get here so we know for sure you do in fact have a ride home as well as someone to notify about anything during the time you're asleep."
"Got it."
"Okay, here's a bit more information on the procedure here." the receptionist said as she handed Mr. Wolf a piece of paper.
"I recommend looking it over good as it can further inform you about the procedure."
Mr. Wolf then took the paper while briefly skimming it over.
"Sure thing, will do."
"Well, then we'll see you tomorrow morning at 8 AM."
"Will do." he smiled while proceeding to the exit with the paper in hand.
By the time Mr. Wolf got in his car, he pulled out his phone and immediately called the first one he thought of when he was told someone had to drive him home.
"Hello?" asked Diane on the other line.
"Diane! Hey there, it's Wolf"
"Hey sly guy what's up?" Diane replied.
"Well, I may need a favor to ask of you for tomorrow."
"A favor huh? What is it?"
Mr. Wolf then let out a sigh. "Well for the past few days I was having a bit of pain in my jaw and pretty much throughout my whole mouth. So, I managed to get an appointment at the dentist and found out…."
"Your wisdom teeth are acting up." Diane interjected.
"Huh? What?"
"Yeah for many your age, it's really not that uncommon for those little suckers to come in."
Mr. Wolf then felt a blush creep under his fur.
"Gee Diane I'm kind of surprised you actually know about that stuff."
"Well I mean I too had my wisdom teeth removed many years ago. They were also making my mouth and jaw hurt quite a bit."
There was a momentary pause before Diane broke the silence.
"A wolf and fox aren't so different am I right?" Diane then let out a brief chuckle.
Mr. Wolf suddenly felt his face get hot and could feel he was blushing.
Thank goodness I didn't call her using Voom or Casetime.
Mr. Wolf then felt himself go into a daze for what seemed like many seconds before Diane snapped him out of it.
"Mr. Wolf you still there?"
"Oh, yeah, yeah. Right here." he stammered.
"Well, for tomorrow it looks like my day is pretty clear so I t looks like I should be free to take you. What time is it set for?"
"They scheduled me for 8 AM. Got told I'll be the first patient of the day."
"That's pretty neat. Now how far is your place from the dentist?"
"Hm, I'd say maybe around ten minutes, not too long I suppose."
"Okay then, how about I pick you up at 7:30 so we'll make good time?"
"Sure, why not? Sounds like a plan."
"Very well then, 7:30 it is. Sleep well too."
"I'll try, I guess" Mr. Wolf replied.
"Alright, see you then! Bye" Diane said.
"Bye." Mr. Wolf replied as well before they both hit end call at the same time.
Mr. Wolf then let out a sigh as he turned on his car.
I hate this nervousness I'm feeling right now. But knowing Diane will be taking me there and will be in the waiting room for me when I get out should put me at ease by then. At least I hope so.
Mr. Wolf then proceeds to pull out of the lot but not before noticing something that catches his eye. A sign for Burger Wing.
I should probably eat good tonight. Knowing I have to stop eating and drinking no later than midnight and have to skip breakfast tomorrow. Granted I know my mouth will probably hurt, but it's a good thing I still have a few Tylenol at home to help me get through it.
He drives a bit before turning into Burger Wing's lot and proceeds to go up to the Drive Thru. Eventually, he reaches the speaker.
"Hello, welcome to Burger Wing may I please take your order?" said the worker on the line.
"Yes, I would like one of your meatless burgers, a large fry, and an unsweetened iced tea please."
"Got it. Anything else?"
Mr. Wolf glanced over the menu one last time but nothing else struck him in that moment.
"Nope, that'll be it." he replied.
"Okay, your total will be nine thirty-one first window."
"Sure thing." Mr. Wolf replied as he pulled up to the first window.
A worker opened the window. "nine thirty-one" he said.
Mr. Wolf then handed the worker a ten which the worker then took.
"Out of ten, sixty-nine cents is your change." the worker said as he handed Mr. Wolf his change.
"And if you drive down to window number two, your order should be ready for pick up."
Mr. Wolf nodded, and did just that.
The next window opened and a worker appeared holding a bag in one hand and a drink in the other.
"All right, so we got one meatless burger, a large fry, and an unsweetened iced tea." the worker said as he handed Mr. Wolf the items.
"Thanks a bunch man!" Mr. Wolf replied as he put the iced tea in his cup holder and bag on the passenger seat.
"Your welcome. Oh, the straw and napkins are in the bag."
Mr. Wolf nodded as he began exiting the lot. And within minutes, he was home.
Upon entering his home, he immediately set the bag and iced tea on the kitchen table before getting the Tylenol out of his cabinet and bringing it over to the table as well.
Mr. Wolf then took a seat at the table and took the burger and fries out.
"Well, I gotta eat something since I have to fast after midnight. Here it goes". He then proceeded to unwrap the burger before taking a few cautious bites before chewing and swallowing.
Hey this isn't so bad for once he thought before taking another bite.
No sooner that thought crossed his mind, a sharp pain shot through his jaw which in turn caused him to wince and close his eyes.
Why'd I speak too soon?
Upon experiencing the sharp pain, he immediately grabbed the Tylenol but not before reading the instructions to make sure he wouldn't make any mistakes.
"Take one to two tablets, no more than that within a six-hour span. Do not take with alcohol. Over consumption may result in liver damage."
Guess I'll take two right now to take the edge off then.
He then put two of the pills in his mouth before washing them down with his iced tea.
Despite still feeling a bit sore, the pills did lessen his pain enough that he was able to finish the rest of his meal. Sometime later, he sat down on his couch and reviewed the notes about the procedure.
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT as you will be given general anesthesia. That does mean however that you will be fully unaware of what's going on and will be asleep during it. Your mouth may feel a bit numb and sore afterwards, but it's important to take any prescribed meds for pain as directed before the pain gets too severe. Gauze will also be in your mouth for around forty-five minutes to an hour after the procedure or until the bleeding stops. While you are recovering, for both your safety and others, please do not operate any machines for a day or two after the procedure, or if you've recently taken the prescription pills. Use the next few days to rest and please call our office if bleeding increases, the pain worsens or if you have any general questions or concerns. Office number is 213-555-1995.
"Well, I can only hope for the best I guess." Mr. Wolf said upon finishing reading.
Mr. Wolf then got up, and went into the bathroom to brush his teeth and began getting ready for bed. He also made sure to set his alarm on his phone for 7:00 AM so he could give himself time to get ready. He then put his phone next to the stand next to his bed.
As he got into bed, he suddenly thought of Diane and how grateful he was to have her be there for him tomorrow, and how she was the first one to come to mind when he was told he needed someone to drive him home afterwards.
Thank you Diane he thought as he began to drift off to sleep.
"It's a brand-new day!" sang the alarm on Mr. Wolf's phone as it buzzed, which immediately made his eyes shoot open. A glance over at his phone showed it was in fact 7:00 AM.
Oh man, it's morning already?
Mr. Wolf stepped out of bed, got his clothes for the day, and walked into the bathroom before stepping into the shower as soon as the water warmed.
I know it's probably a common procedure, but I sure hope it all goes well. Boy, am I sure glad Diane will be accompanying me he thought as the water was showering down onto him.
After a few minutes of soaping up and rinsing, Mr. Wolf turned off the water and stepped out. He then grabbed the towel he left on the sink and began to dry himself off. Within a few minutes, he felt dry enough and proceeded to brush his teeth before rinsing it out with mouthwash.
Sure feels weird brushing your teeth knowing you're skipping breakfast.
Mr. Wolf then gets dressed and sits in the living room, but within a few minutes his phone begins to ring.
It was Diane.
"Hey, Diane!" Mr. Wolf said upon answering it.
"Hey, I'm here." Diane replied.
Mr. Wolf looked out the window; there and behold was Diane in the same convertible she used to pick the gang up when they were released from prison last year.
"I see you. I'm coming right out."
Mr. Wolf began walking to the door but realized he was forgetting something.
The Tylenol.
He quickly took a pill out and washed it down with a sip of water.
It'll help somewhat I guess.
He then fully walked outside, locked the door behind him, and sat in the passenger side of the car.
"How are you feeling?" Diane asked with a caring look on her face.
"I'm feeling kind of nervous, like there's a pit in my stomach."
"Being nervous about a procedure is perfectly fine, but I know you're gonna be fine." said Diane as she began to drive towards the office.
Mr. Wolf then smiled upon hearing her say that.
Within minutes, they arrived at the dentist's office.
Upon walking in, Mr. Wolf approached the receptionist's desk as Diane took a seat in the waiting room. The receptionist then looked up and upon doing so Mr. Wolf noticed it was the same one who gave him the information before he left yesterday.
"Ah, Mr. Wolf you are here for your wisdom teeth extraction is that correct?"
"Why yes I am."
"Okay, I'm just gonna ask you a couple of questions. Have you had anything to eat or drink after midnight?"
"Just a Tylenol pill this morning with a little sip of water."
"That's no problem. And have you or anyone in your family ever had any bad reactions to anesthesia?"
"Nope, can't recall any."
"Do you have a ride home afterwards?"
"Yup, she's right here in the waiting room."
Upon hearing that, the receptionist glanced over into the waiting room. Her eyes suddenly widened and a smile appeared on her face.
"Mr. Wolf that's Governor Foxington."
"Yeah, she and I are good friends, so much so that she took time out of her day to get me here and home afterwards."
"Let me tell you what, you are so lucky to have her as a friend." whispered the receptionist.
Mr. Wolf suddenly felt himself get sheepish and flustered upon hearing those words.
"Well uh, thank you." responded Mr. Wolf nervously.
The receptionist then smiled back.
"You're welcome. And since you're the first patient today, you have the honor of going right back now."
"Whoa, really?"
"Yes sir, you may head back, first room on the left."
Before heading back, he looked at Diane.
"Hey Diane."
"Yes?"
"Time for me to head back."
Diane then smiled warmly.
"See you soon Wolf. I'll be right here when you wake up."
And with that, Mr. Wolf headed back into the room.
Upon entering, Mr. Wolf was instantly greeted by the dentist from yesterday as well as his dental assistant.
"Hello Mr. Wolf." said the dentist.
"Why, same to you Doc."
"Did you sleep well last night?"
"Surprisingly yes, for the most part."
"That's good to hear. You are also going to be fast asleep during this procedure and won't remember anything about it."
"Understood." said Mr. Wolf while nodding.
"Okay now that you're here, can you please take a seat in the chair here?"
"Sure thing."
Mr. Wolf then sat in the dental chair and as soon as he did, Jillian came over and gave him a dental bib.
"Here put this under your neck. It'll keep you clean and dry during the procedure."
Mr. Wolf did just that.
"Okay now we're gonna lower you back a bit."
Upon doing that, Mr. Wolf was now looking up at the overhead light.
"I'm gonna start your IV now, is that okay?"
Mr. Wolf nervously nodded.
The assistant then got the IV holder on the other side of the room and wheeled it over.
"Which paw or arm do you prefer?"
"Well I'm right pawed, so I'd prefer you try using my left."
"Okay"
The assistant then took out an alcohol wipe and sanitized his paw.
"Ah, there's a good vein."
Mr. Wolf then gulped and briefly closed his eyes.
"Are you okay?" asked the assistant.
"Yeah, it's just that I haven't gotten a needle in a while. I'm a bit scared of them."
"That's okay, if it helps, I tell the patients who are afraid of them to look away and close their eyes."
"Okay, I'll do that." Mr. Wolf replied as he did just that.
"You may feel a little pinch, but it should be brief."
Upon saying that, the IV needle was inserted into his vein, which made Mr. Wolf wince a bit.
"Sorry, I know it can cause a bit of pain while being inserted. How is it now?"
"It doesn't hurt as much now." Mr. Wolf replied.
"Good, good. So as you can see this IV here will keep you hydrated during the procedure." the assistant said as she taped down the IV to his paw.
Alright, the needle is adequately in so now I'm gonna administer the anesthesia. Is that alright?"
Mr. Wolf took a deep breath and nodded with a smile.
"Yes, you can do it."
"I can see you're a bit nervous, but that's okay. You're in good hands."
The assistant then took out the vial of anesthetic and began injecting it into Mr. Wolf's IV.
Mr. Wolf looked keenly at the liquid as it began to enter his vein.
"Okay the anesthetic is flowing in. You should be asleep within a minute or so."
The dentist then walked to Mr. Wolf's side.
Mr. Wolf then looked up at the assistant.
"Can you please promise me one thing?"
"Sure, what is it?" the assistant said smiling back.
Suddenly Mr. Wolf's eyes began to feel heavy and the room began to feel like it was spinning. His paw with the IV also began to feel weird and an odd taste began to enter his mouth.
"Promise me….. you… won't…. take….. wrong… teeth… out."
And with that, Mr. Wolf was out like a light.
One hour later
After what felt like only a few seconds, Mr. Wolf began to come to.
What's going on? Ugh, why does my mouth feel weird?
Slowly but surely, Mr. Wolf began to open his eyes. He saw the assistant who in turn noticed that he was opening his eyes, and the dentist who was at the table taking notes. He then got up and walked out of the room.
"So, did you sleep well?" asked the assistant.
"Ugh, what… what… happened? Is….. it, is it….. done?" asked Mr. Wolf in a groggy tone.
"Yes Mr. Wolf, the procedure is over. You did very well." said the assistant.
Mr. Wolf's eyes widened.
"Whoa, whoa. It's…. over….. already?
The assistant then let out a small chuckle.
"Yup, that's the wonder of anesthesia. For anyone getting it, it feels like everything goes by in an instant."
Mr. Wolf then nodded slowly with an "ah."
The dentist then returned into the room smiling.
"Ah, I see you're up. Well, Mr. Wolf I can inform you that the surgery went well, and there were no serious problems. That being said, it did take some extra work to remove the bottom two teeth as they were quite impacted.
"Ah… good." Mr. Wolf said slowly nodding again.
Suddenly Mr. Wolf felt a sense of concern, fear, and sadness come over him.
"Diane! Where… where is she?"
"Oh, Ms. Foxington is in the waiting room. I just got back from informing her a bit ago that your procedure went well. Once you're a bit more aware, she can come back here to see you."
Mr. Wolf then glanced into the waiting room.
"She's….. she's not there. She's not there!" he said with panic in his voice.
"Mr. Wolf, please rest assured that I just got back from talking to Ms. Foxington. And I guarantee you she's been in the waiting room the entire time."
Mr. Wolf once again glanced into the waiting room but once again didn't see Diane.
"Oh….. my God. She broke up with me!" said Mr. Wolf who now started to have a tremble in his voice and tears forming in his eyes
"Aw Mr. Wolf!" Jillian said as she grabbed a pair of tissues and proceeded to wipe away his tears. She then looked over at the dentist and nodded. He in turn proceeded to walk out the room.
A few seconds later, Dr. Stevens re-entered with Diane by his side whom had a smile on her face.
Mr. Wolf's eyes widened and he let out a small gasp.
"Oh my God Diane…..you came back for me!" Mr. Wolf said as a new set of tears began to form.
Diane then walked over to Mr. Wolf, knelt down and kissed his free paw. She noticed that his face was red, but couldn't tell if it was from the crying or if he was truly blushing.
It's probably just the anesthesia talking, but I'll just go along with it she thought.
"Yup, I came back. I decided that I just couldn't leave you." she said as she too took a tissue and wiped his tears.
"Thank you Diane. I knew you and I were destined to get married and start a family. Sometimes I even dream about that."
Upon hearing those words, Diane became speechless and her face instantly turned a visible crimson red.
Dr. Stevens and Jillian noticed the situation was getting increasingly awkward so the dentist spoke up.
"Mr. Wolf. Are you able to stand up yet? I don't want to rush you but we do need that chair for other patients today. If you need assistance-"
"Oh I can help him up." interjected Diane.
"Thank you Ms. Foxington. I just need to remove his IV." said Jillian.
She then walked over with a cotton swab and bandage. She then grabbed the tape on the IV needle.
"This may feel like you're getting a bit of a wax but I'll try and be quick. Oh and your paw may feel sore for a bit afterwards. Ready?"
Mr. Wolf nodded.
In a split second, the tape was quickly removed from his paw. Jillian then pulled out the IV needle and put the cotton swab on the puncture site.
As he did before the procedure, Mr. Wolf winced a bit.
"Sorry, you okay?" asked Jillian.
Mr. Wolf slowly nodded with a "yeah."
"Good, good. I'm now gonna put this band aid and wrap on. The wrap will keep extra pressure on the site and help it heal faster."
She did just that.
"Okay Ms. Foxington you can help him up now. I recommend you grab his right hand as his left hand is clearly in no shape for that right now."
Diane reached out her right paw in front of Mr. Wolf.
"Ready to go home?"
"Uh huh." Mr. Wolf said while nodding. He then grabbed Diane's paw with his own.
"Oh and Mr. Wolf, try to grip your feet on the floor. It'll help you stand properly. We don't wanna see you fall."
Following the advice, and while still gripping Diane's paw, Mr. Wolf slowly stood up.
Diane then put her arm around Mr. Wolf's waist, causing Mr. Wolf's eyes to slightly widen in surprise. And not only that, Diane also noticed something else.
Mr. Wolf's tail slightly began to wag, unbeknownst to him as he was still quite groggy.
Diane, Dr. Stevens, and Jillian couldn't help but chuckle.
"Okay, I think you're both ready to go." said Dr. Stevens.
Mr. Wolf and Diane began walking towards the exit when Jillian suddenly called out.
"Oh, I almost forgot."
Diane and Mr. Wolf stopped and turned around.
Jillian then handed Diane a piece of paper.
"It's his post-op instructions."
"Oh, thank you." replied Diane as she grabbed the paper with her free hand.
"And by the way, since he's coming off of anesthesia he needs to have someone stay with him for the next twenty-four hours, he can't operate a vehicle for the next twenty-four hours or until the anesthesia wears off. Stick to soft foods, for the next week and don't have him drink from a straw as that can slow and disrupt the healing. And there's many more things on there that I don't really have time to read off right now."
Diane nodded. "Got it."
"And the dentist called in a few pain pills as the pain is usually the worst for the first few days after the procedure. He should take one anytime the pain starts to come on, but he shouldn't wait until the pain gets too severe. Eventually, you can downgrade to over the counter pills such as Tylenol and Ibuprofen after the next few days or if the pain isn't too severe."
"Okay." Diane said while nodding and looking at Mr. Wolf.
I wonder if he even understood or heard any of that. Good thing I'm here for him.
"All right, well we wish you a speedy recovery. If there's any questions you can call our office."
"Understood." said Diane.
Jillian then chuckled.
"Sorry if I'm overwhelming you, I was trying to give you the most important info in a short window."
"No problem."
Eventually, Diane and Mr. Wolf got into the car, though Diane had to help Mr. Wolf get his seatbelt buckled.
Upon looking over the paper, Diane smiled.
"While you were in there, I placed a pick-up order at the grocery store. I knew what to order after doing some research and from my own personal experience. We're going to head there and also pick up your prescription."
"Uh, okay." Mr. Wolf shrugged and nodded with some grogginess still in his voice.
Upon arriving at the store, Diane pulled into the pharmacy lane and lucky for them there was no line so Diane was able to drive right on up to the window.
In a few moments, a pharmacy worker walked up to the window.
"Hello, pickup for Mr. Wolf." said Diane.
The worker's eyes instantly lit up and gave off a smile.
"Oh my God, Ms. Foxington?"
"Yup, it's me."
"Oh man, it's not every day I see the governor in person a few feet away. What are you doing here?"
"Just picking up a prescription for my patient here. He's still a bit loopy."
Mr. Wolf then turned towards the pharmacist.
"Hey." he said while also waving in a sloppy kind of way.
"Wish you the best man. I'm getting it right now." said the worker before stepping away from the window.
Within a few seconds the worker returned with the prescription in a bag. He scanned it and put it in the drop box.
"There's no co-pay for this one."
Before long, the box opened and Diane took the prescription out before putting it in her center console.
"You two have a great day, and my best wishes are with you Mr. Wolf." the worker said before Diane pulled away.
"Okay, now that we got your prescription only thing left is to pick up the groceries I ordered."
Diane then drove into the parking lot and into a space that said "Curbside Pickup."
Upon pulling into the space, Diane got her phone out and called the store. Within a few seconds, someone picked up.
"Hello, this is Brian may I help you?"
"Hello Brian. This is Diane Foxington calling to notify you that I have arrived to pick up my order."
"Let's see, ah here you are. Someone should be out within a few minutes."
"Sounds good." Diane replied before both lines hanged up.
Diane then turned to Mr. Wolf.
"I think you're gonna like what I ordered you. The foods are perfect for someone who just had their wisdom teeth removed."
"Huh? Okay." replied Mr. Wolf.
Within a few minutes, a worker emerged from the store with a cart of groceries and proceeded to make his way towards Diane's car.
"Hey! Governor Foxington! This is a rare treat!"
Diane then smiled back.
"Why, thank you!"
"I just want to say you're doing such a great job! You're probably the best we've had in a while!"
"I really appreciate your feedback, it makes my day!" Diane replied.
A few seconds went by before the worker spoke up.
"Oh I better give you your groceries now shouldn't I?"
"Ah no worries."
"Okay let's see we got one box of pasta, a package of mashed potatoes, a pack of Jell-O, a pack of yogurt, a gallon of apple juice, and a tenty-four pack of bottled water."
"I think we got it." said Diane.
"Very well, your total will be thirty-two fourteen." Said the worker as he took out his card processor.
Diane then took out her credit card and handed it to the worker who then ran it through.
"You're good, card accepted." said the worker as he handed her the card back.
"Now, where would you like your groceries Ms. Foxington?"
"In the trunk should be okay." she replied hitting a button that popped the trunk open.
"Ah, very well then." the worker said as he made his way to the trunk and proceeded to unload it. Within a few moments, the groceries were in and he closed the trunk.
"Okay you're good to go. You and Mr. Wolf have a good day!"
"Thank you very much, your gratitude is welcome!" said Diane as she turned to Mr. Wolf before beginning to drive off.
"Ready to finally head home?"
Mr. Wolf turned towards her and nodded with a "I guess so."
That made Diane chuckle a bit as she drove on towards Mr. Wolf's house.
Within minutes, Diane had arrived at Mr. Wolf's house.
"Well, here we are, you're home."
"Oh, home." Mr. Wolf said as he slowly unbuckled his seatbelt and attempted to open his door.
Diane gasped.
"Oh no no no! Wait right there!" said Diane as she quickly unbuckled her seatbelt, turned off the car, ran over to the passenger side, and opened the passenger door herself.
"You still need help walking in, the anesthesia still hasn't fully worn off yet. I don't want to see you take a spill or anything!"
Mr. Wolf's ears drooped, and his head went down.
Diane instantly began to feel guilty for her tone.
"Hey, hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to raise my voice. I just got concerned that's all."
"Okay, understood." Mr. Wolf said as his ears and head perked back up.
A few seconds went by before Diane spoke.
"You're going to reach out with your right paw, and grab mine."
Diane reached out her right paw, and Mr. Wolf did just that and grabbed hers.
"Now, try to pull yourself up."
Mr. Wolf did just that, and stood right up. He was able to ready himself and surprisingly didn't sway too much.
"Good job, good job. Now I'm going to put my arm around your waist and we're going to walk up to the door alright?"
"Yeah, yeah." replied Mr. Wolf.
Within a few minutes, both Mr. Wolf and Diane made it to the front door, one arm helping Mr. Wolf walk in, the other holding his prescription.
Diane then got the key out of her pocket, unlocked the door and opened it.
Both of them then walked into the house.
"Home" said Mr. Wolf.
"That's right, you're finally home."
Suddenly, Mr. Wolf's mouth felt like someone smashed his jaw with a hammer.
"Ah, mouth, mouth hurts bad!"
Oh no, the numbing agent is probably wearing off.
"Hold on, I need to check the gauze to see if you're still bleeding. Can you open your mouth?"
Mr. Wolf did just that and Diane reached in and pulled the gauze out. She noticed that the blood looked dry and old. She also took the gauze that the dentist gave to her earlier out of her pocket.
"This blood looks old and dry. But just to be sure, put this new gauze in and try to bite down."
Mr. Wolf did just that and bit down slightly, while also wincing in pain.
"Okay, you can open." Diane said as he took the gauze out while noticing the gauze was all white, not even specks of blood were seen.
Diane smiled at the realization.
"The bleeding has stopped. You don't need any more gauze in."
"Good, but mouth hurts!"
"Oh of course! Wait right here!" said Diane as she went over to the sink.
The instructions said to drink lukewarm water.
Diane filled the cup with lukewarm water and returned to Mr. Wolf's side.
"Let's get you the first pill." Diane said as she opened the container and poured a pill into her paw.
Mr. Wolf placed the pill in his mouth and Diane handed him the cup of water before he washed the pill down.
"I'm thirsty." Mr. Wolf said as he began drinking more water out of the cup.
"Careful, you don't want to drink too much too fast as it can make you feel sick."
Upon hearing that, Mr. Wolf stopped, but still held the cup in his hand.
"Ah, tired, I'm taking nap." he said as he proceeded to walk into his bedroom with Diane following him to make sure he got into bed safely.
Mr. Wolf then put his water on the table next to him and got under the covers before instantly falling asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
Sleep tight thought Diane as she walked into the kitchen smiling.
A few hours later
Mr. Wolf's eyes slowly began to open as he emerged from his sleep.
How long did I sleep for? I feel so refreshed.
A mild pain in his jaw then emerged making him wince a bit.
Mr. Wolf got up out of bed and noticed that the sun was still out. But also took note at the fact that the brightness was fading, so it was late in the day.
Grumble went Mr. Wolf's stomach.
"Better go get something to eat."
Mr. Wolf then walked out of the bedroom and proceeded to head into the kitchen, but not before noticing Diane in the living room watching TV. Upon hearing his footsteps, Diane turned and looked at him.
"Well, look who decided to wake up." said Diane smiling.
"Oh, I feel great!" said Mr. Wolf.
"Does your mouth hurt at all?"
"Not so much, just a bit. Why?"
"Well, after the procedure you were in a good amount of pain and quite out of it from the anesthesia."
Mr. Wolf tilted his head.
"You don't remember?" Diane asked curiously.
"No, why?" responded Mr. Wolf.
"Well, soon after you came to, I had to help walk you out of the office and into the car. We then picked up your prescription and my grocery order. After that, we arrived home, you took a pain pill because you said your mouth was becoming super painful and then you went to sleep."
Mr. Wolf nodded. "And how long did I sleep for?"
"You slept for around four hours. You went to sleep pretty fast."
Suddenly, an embarrassing thought entered Mr. Wolf's mind as he began to blush.
"Hey, Diane?"
"Yeah?"
"After the surgery was done and was coming out of anesthesia did I by chance say or do anything inappropriate or weird that I would regret? Because I've seen videos online of people acting a bit, you know wacky afterwards." he said.
Diane chuckled a bit before shaking her head.
"Nah, nothing really that significant happened."
"Oh, well that's a relief I guess."
"Don't worry, even if you did say or even act a bit off, the dentists and doctors have heard and experienced many crazy things patients have said or done coming off of the anesthesia. It's pretty much just the drugs in your system doing the talking."
"And they wouldn't have filmed me or will tell anyone if I did act a bit, you know loopy?"
"No, no of course not. That's what confidentiality is for."
"Good, good" replied Mr. Wolf as his stomach growled which caused his eyes to widen.
"Sorry" Mr. Wolf said sheepishly.
Diane then chuckled.
"Nothing to be sorry about, since you haven't eaten in hours. But this is good timing actually."
"Why's that?" asked Mr. Wolf.
"Well, when you were sleeping, I boiled some pasta at a lukewarm temperature so it'll be ready for you to eat when you got up."
Mr. Wolf then walked towards the kitchen with Diane following behind. Upon entering, the smell of the pasta entered Mr. Wolf's nostrils and he let out a sigh of pleasure.
It's like I forgot what food smells like.
Mr. Wolf walked over to the pot on the stove, removed the top, and put a scoop of the pasta on his dish with the pasta scooper. He then picked up the fork that was next to it and instantly put some of the pasta in his mouth. Upon the pasta entering his mouth and giving it a good chew before swallowing. Mr. Wolf's eyes widened.
"Diane, this pasta came out just right."
Diane then let out a bit of a chuckle.
"I take it that I'm a good cook then?"
"Oh, I'd say so, especially since I'm finally tasting food in what feels like forever ago." Mr. Wolf replied as he took another bite of the pasta.
But this time, some more mild pain entered his jaw which once again made him wince, which Diane took notice of.
"You hurting?" she asked.
"Just a bit."
"Then why don't you take a Tylenol? It'll help relieve the pain."
Mr. Wolf shrugged.
"I guess I'll take one. It's in the that top cabinet, in a red container." he said while pointing towards it.
Diane walked over, opened the cabinet and took out the container. As she was doing that, Mr. Wolf opened another cabinet and took out a glass before filling it with lukewarm water from the faucet in the sink before setting it down on the counter.
Good thing I remembered to make it not too hot or cold.
"Found it!" she said as she walked towards him with the container while also reading off the instructions.
"Take one to two tablets, no more than that within a six-hour span. Do not take with alcohol. Over consumption may result in liver damage."
After reading it she unscrewed the top and poured one in her paw, but not before looking up at Mr. Wolf.
"Do you think you need one or two?"
"I'll try two to make sure it takes just enough edge off."
Diane then poured another pill into her paw. Mr. Wolf then picked up both with his left paw before placing them into his mouth while he picked the water off the counter with his right hand and washed them down.
Within a few moments, his mouth wasn't in as much pain.
"Ah, that's better." Mr. Wolf said while rubbing both sides of his face with his free paw.
Mr. Wolf then couldn't believe what he forgot to ask Diane.
"Oh, Diane you know you can have some of the pasta too."
"Sure, why not?" she replied.
And with that, she grabbed a fork out of the drawer, scooped up some of the pasta and put it in her mouth while chewing. In a few moments, she swallowed.
"It is good, I guess you weren't just saying it was good just to avoid hurting my feelings."
Mr. Wolf chuckled upon hearing that.
"And by the way, I also got you something else you can eat." Diane said as she made her way over to the refrigerator and opened it.
"Some vanilla yogurt, it's full of protein and nutrients."
Mr. Wolf smiled upon seeing it.
"Why how very thoughtful." he said as he grabbed one of the yogurts out of the fridge as well as a spoon in the drawer before he closed both.
Mr. Wolf unsealed the top of the yogurt and scooped a spoonful before putting it in his mouth, making sure he tasted it well before he swallowed it.
"You picked a good one. Feel free to dig in." Mr. Wolf said while holding out a spoon he also got out of the drawer just a few moments ago.
Diane grabbed the spoon and she herself consumed a spoonful of yogurt.
"Mm, I did pick a good one. Probably one of the best yogurts I've had in recent memory."
Mr. Wolf then nodded in agreement.
"Thank you Diane, for everything you did for me today. You're truly one of the best friends I ever had, though not to take away from my clique and-"
Diane then felt tears come to her eyes, as well as her face getting warm. She hoped her orange fur would hide it.
What's wrong with me? Why am I reacting this way?
"Diane! What's wrong? Are you okay?"
"Oh, I'm fine. It's just that I haven't heard someone give me compliments like that in a while." she said as the tears began to flow down her face.
"Here, let me get them." said Mr. Wolf as he brushed her tears away with his thumbs.
"Thank you." replied Diane while sniffling a bit.
A few moments later, there was a knock on the door.
Mr. Wolf and Diane both looked over at the door. Diane smiled while Mr. Wolf gave off a confused expression.
"What's this?" asked Mr. Wolf.
"Oh, you'll see." replied Diane as she made her way towards the door.
As she got to the door, she looked out the window.
Just as I thought.
Diane then unlocked the door and opened it.
"Come on in guys."
Standing outside the door was the rest of the gang, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Snake, and Ms. Tarantula.
"Is he okay?" asked Mr. Shark.
"Is he hurt?" then asked Mr. Snake.
"Yes." Diane said while turning to Mr. Shark.
"And no." she then said while turning to Mr. Snake.
"His pain has mostly subsided."
"Oh." both Mr. Shark and Mr. Wolf said simultaneously.
Upon hearing who he thought it was, Mr. Wolf's ears perked up.
Before long, Diane led the gang into the living room, which caused Mr. Wolf to smile at what he saw.
"Wolf! How's my bud doing?" asked Mr. Snake.
"Well, better than I was before."
"How scary was it?" asked Ms. Tarantula.
"Not really at all, since I was asleep during the whole thing."
Mr. Piranha then interjected.
"Does losing these wisdom teeth affect your wisdom at all?"
"I don't think so."
Mr. Wolf then looked over at Diane confusingly.
"Diane how, when did you-"
"Oh, I group texted everyone about your procedure when I heard you get out of bed earlier. I figured after you rested and had shed more of the anesthesia that you'd be in the mood to see your pals."
Mr. Wolf smiled brightly at Diane.
"Thanks, that was really thoughtful."
Diane once again felt herself blush but also hoped her orange fur hid it.
"Why, you're welcome." Diane responded while smiling back.
"Oh, I can't believe I almost forgot!" exclaimed Mr. Shark as he began reaching inside of his coat before pulling something out and reaching it towards Mr. Wolf.
"It's from all of us, we picked it out at the store before we came here."
Mr. Wolf noticed it was a get well soon card. He noticed the front of the card had artwork of bandages and hearts. He also saw it had a text on the front and he read it aloud.
"We all have challenges in life, and many aren't easy peasy."
Mr. Wolf then opened the card and noticed it too had text so he read it out loud as well.
"But if we have friends and family by our sides, they'll give us more strength and courage. And with that, things will go more breezy. Get well soon. Signed Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Ms. Tarantula."
Upon reading those words, Mr. Wolf felt instantly touched and felt his eyes well up with tears.
"Wolf, are you crying?" asked Mr. Snake.
"Just a few happy tears. Oh, thank you all so much." Mr. Wolf responded while wiping the tears on his sleeve before holding the card up to his chest and closing his eyes while doing a deep inhale followed by an exhale.
"I couldn't ask for a better family than all of you." he said while reopening his eyes and forming a smile.
And in an instant, he noticed that everyone else in the room was doing the same back.
