The Definition Of Wealth

Just a little introspective Frisk centric/Papyrisk drabble I thought up recently and just had to write. I hope you enjoy!

...

Frisk sat at her kitchen table next to Papyrus, working on her final English essay as he worked on his history project. She glanced again at the topic.

What Is Wealth?

She hummed and tapped her pencil on the table, thinking this over. She knew most people's definitions of wealth meant lots of money, but what did the word truly mean to her?

Frisk had seen the newspaper articles about her and Tina. Besides being the ones to discover monsters, the world saw them as a modern day Cinderella story, two girls that had gone from being poor and living in a bad home to being literally raised by royalty. A real rags-to-riches tale.

People wondered what it was like for the girls. How it felt for them to be princesses, if in name only as Asgore and Toriel were considered normal citizens by the human government, though monsters still saw them as their leaders. The newspapers talked about their fame, about what riches they could have.

But Frisk found her greatest riches came in all the small things.

It was lying on silky sheets in a very soft bed, her belly comfortably full and hunger pains a thing of the past. It was piping hot showers and clothes that actually fit her and felt soft against her skin. It was having a nice, structurally sound house and a pantry that never went empty.

But it wasn't just these things that made her feel wealthy. The greatest treasure she had was all the people who loved her.

Frisk's pencil flew across the paper as she wrote, and she smiled to herself as more moments came to her mind. Hearing Tina and Felicity's laughter fill the air as her little sisters played on the slide and swings Asgore had lovingly set up for them in the backyard. Standing next to her mother, cooking delicious dinners and luscious desserts as they pored over all the new cookbooks they found on the surface, and seeing the smiles on their family's faces as they partook of these meals. Her father's arm wrapped around her as he helped her with her homework. Sitting between Asriel and Chara on the couch as they taught her to play video games.

And she not only had a loving family, but amazing friends. She thought of Sans teasing her and making her laugh with his puns and pranks, being like a second big brother to her. Undyne teaching her and her little sisters how to swim and taking them all on hikes. Watching anime and nerding out with Alphys. Doing little skits on Mettaton's show and how he loved picking out clothes for them and teaching them about fashion. How she and Papyrus would have double dates with Shyren and Aaron and joke and laugh with them.

Frisk stole a glance at the skeleton in question as she wrote, smiling as she watched his clever hands carefully build a pyramid for his project on Ancient Egypt. Her Prince Charming, kind and brilliant, who gave one hundred percent to everything he did, especially their relationship. They had been together over a year now and she couldn't be happier.

As if on cue, one of her favorite songs, one that had played in the club where they had shared their first dance together played on the radio. She hummed softly as she heard it, swaying her body softly as she remembered that moment, how his arms held her so tenderly as they taught each other to dance.

Papyrus glanced over, hearing the song and likely feeling her sway. He grinned widely, abandoning his project and getting out of his seat. He held out a hand to her. "CAN I HAVE THIS DANCE, MILADY?"

Frisk beamed, her heart fluttering as she put her hand in his, getting up from her seat. He wrapped his free arm around her waist and she put her free hand on his shoulder, and they danced and twirled through the kitchen to the tune of their song. As the final notes played, he dipped her, then pressed his teeth to her lips. She kissed him back happily, knowing one thing for sure.

She was the richest girl in the world.

...

The little dance in the kitchen was based on an idea my awesome friend, J-Farraday had a while back. She thought Frisk hearing a song she really liked and swaying to the music, and Papyrus dancing with her, would be really cute! I thought so too and thought it would be the perfect ending to this fic. :)
