Chapter 2: the day that changed our world

Year c.845

Paradise Island, Remnant of Eldia

Oldenburg home, Shiganshina District, Wall Maria,

Lukas Oldenburg POV

The old and aging Lukas Oldenburg, former lord and minster of secretive affairs of "humanity" was now sitting down at his new residents in Shiganshina District, relaxing as any normal day. It took them a while before they could settle, with them being Enemies of the State now, and former nobility, they needed to change there last names with apertures. As commoners of course, this also include changing their name to Olden, and living as traders. it did have its own pros, that being it was mostly quiet and peaceful. He and most of his other fellow nobles were to prideful for their own good with their wealth and power, also condescension towards their own people and subjects, and he was no different. Thanks to that ego the house of Oldenburg only had an old man his brother and 10 year-old boy, how far have the great fallen.

"Lukas breakfast well be ready soon" said Sofia his daughter-in-law,

"Thank you dear that is very kind of you" he said.

Sofia was probably the only thing close to one would ever have as a daughter. She was kind and supported and loving women, something you don't see that much from high nobility, with that he knew way John married her and was happy that his grandson had such a good mother.

"Well wears Leon anyway we have a big day coming ahead of as" he asked her being confused on way Leon wasn't here he was always first and dispelled this was a first.

"He should be ready any time now" she said looking at Lukas after that siting down on the other side of the table. At the moment she sits down her normal happy look turns to sadness, as she sit and waited looking into the dish. Lukas knew something here was wrong and knew that such drastic change in personality meant that something happened.

"Is something wrong Sofia" looking at his daughter-in-law, who in turn looked at him on the verge of tears, before saying something, he feared the most.

"It's Leon…he is said to me he would want to join the scouts and I don't know what to do. I don't what to force him on a path that he doesn't like. But the scouts are way to danger's including he is the last of our family."

Lukas new what she was talking Leon after finding out the truth always wanted the people of the wall to become free? With that he wanted to join the scouts. In truth it wasn't that he hated the scouts or thought of them as a waste of taxes. In fact out of all the military he respected them the most, but in the end there job was completely useless being that the government always sabotaged them in their main mission, it was sad to tell the truth. Not only were they the highest rate of casualties in all of the military with low funds and always so close of being disbanded it didn't give a good career choice.

"I will see what I can do Sofia" said Lukas, trying to reassure her, "don't you worry I'll get such thoughts out of him".

"Thank you, I don't want my boy to come back in a body bag" she said with tears in her eyes.

"I know and on my Life I promise that I will do anything to keep him safe, anything" Lukas said to his daughter-in-law as both stood to the noise as Leon busted into the room with a big smile looking as happy and with lots of energy as always.

"Good morning mother and grandfather!" he said with smile.

"Good morning Leon" said to Lukas with his own smile that showed his happiness.

The boy nodded and sits down at the table, stated to eat the food giving. As his family eat he sat back and thought about his life and everything that he was through. The Oldenburg family Like the Ackerman's had special powers, they were the main generals and strategists of the old empire and thought many wars both external and internal. they also had a some what of rivalry with the Ackerman's in the old days before there fall, back when the empire still existed, they would called the Ackerman's the sword of Eldia whereas the Oldenburg the shield, the only different s of the Ackerman's and Oldenburg was that Ackerman's were stronger as the Oldenburg were faster. But of course telling the truth would only end with suffering and death, which were they are at this point if he did say this, it would alert the internal MP's or worse Kenny himself, They didn't need that.

The only people, who knew about the power of the Oldenburg family were the family them self or close friends. The Oldenburg children started to learn how to use their powers at 5 so when the first lock came off at 10 the child would be able to use it. The second and third locks would be unlocked at 14 and the last at the age of 19. But with them hiding now, that would be harder to teach Leon with nobody finding out.

He then remembered that day that changed his thought on everything he believed and to what he must thank for the suiting he was in at the moment. As any day he worked as the minster of secrets, the ministry that was in change of keeping order in the walls and that nobody found out about the truth of the world ever. He also remembered report talking about a schoolteacher who equation the wold outside and government's narratives about the islands history and with that this was forced to sign the schoolteacher's death warrant for just asking some equations. It broke him to his core.

"Grandfather I'm done" as Leon stood up from the table and went to get ready for the day Lukas only nodded and went off to get his hat and couth to go outside.

As both Lukas and Leon stood outside of the main gate of Shiganshina District to the outside the bells started to ring calling to the people that the scouts have come back. He knew he shouldn't show his son this, but it was the only way, he had made a promise to Sofia and he was not going to break it. not like the others he had broke.

The chatter of the crowd gathered near the gates increased as the opened allowing the remnants of the scouts that left with 100 soldiers came bake with only 20. Lukas noticed doctor's son Eren and their adopted daughter Mikasa Ackerman were also present in the crowd. He looked at his grandson who was horrified at what he saw and he hated what he had to do. some time past as the one of the onlookers run up to the scouts.

"BRAUN,BRAUN !"yelled a women.

"WHERE IS MY SON...?!"she continued.

"Excuse me...my son... I don't see my son, Braun," she started to panic, not seeing her son.

For a minute the commander as it looked stood quiet until.

"bring it"he said, one of the scouts got a bag off the horse and walked to the woman before giving it and letting her open it. he didn't see what was in the bag but the reaction from the woman gave it away.

"WAAAAGH!" screamed the woman. it was sad to see people die the truth that they will probably never get Lukas thought.

"..but my son... was useful to you wasn't he?" she said now crying,

"his death brought humanity one step closer at beating them back right?" she now plead for a answers. Lukas was thinking that the commander would tell her that they did come closer to finding out about their enemy, but what happened next stuns him.

"Of course..." the commander said before stopping himself, and what came next was something Lukas didn't expect.

"no..."

"our survey this time..." the leader was about to say something.

"this time too we..." he continued.

"WE ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING" he said.

"BECAUSE OF MY INCOMPETENCE..! ALL I DID WAS GET MY SOLDERS KILLED" the commander shouted out.

"we didn't get any closer..."

"...to finding out what those things really are!"

after a moment of silents, the people stated to talk again, with Lukas thinking that Leon had enough for today and people started to leave one by one. After so only he and Leon where left.

"So do you steel want to join the scouts Leon, you can be in the bag like that, being given to you mother" he said to his grandson. Leon didn't say anything he just looked at the ground in silents.

"I will take that as a yes then... let's go we don't have all day for this Leon" he said as both him and Leon want back home.

As walking back home Leon spoke up and said "I'm sorry for worry you and mother about this I will not be join the scouts for my family" he said to his grandfather who just nodded in agreement with his grandson.

"Do not worried Leon everyone has fantasy or dreams we need to scarifies sometimes and if you join the scouts who would protect mother I'm getting to old for this and Tobias is in Trost" he said to Leon. At that moment he felt a weird in the air. A weird tingling sensation... a buzzing noise, the same one he felt all those years ago

'Could something bad happen soon to them or Sofia' he thought, as his grandson looked at him with a bit of fear and distress. "What is it grandfathered" he asked him.

"Something bad is about to happen we need to go now!" he said as he picked up Leon ran to their home as fast as he could and in minutes he was there opening that door Sofia looking at him with worry.

"Father whats wrong" she said in a worried voice looking at me.

"I don t know Sofia?"Lukas said with his voice raspy and hoarse from the long run. "All I know that its something bad is about to happen don't know way or how but we need to get out of here and fast".

"Are we going to evacuate like we planned" Sofia asked him.

"Yes" he said "gather the bags we had ready just in case of the event like this".

"Grandfather whats happening"Leon asked him with clearly confused and scared.

"Knowing things look scary and confusing right now Leon" he said trying to reassure him "but we need to flee right now as something bad is about to happen"

"they found us didn't they" Leon said voice shaking with terror. "they're here to kill us like father aren't they" Leon said.

" no Leon I will not allow for that to happen and I will protect you and your mother but you most stay come please" he said to his grandson. they boy just nodded but as they stated to get ready to flee a crack of thunder and rippling through the air. as it struck the ground quivered as if there was some sort of explosion.

"what was that" Lukas said as he looked at the wall were he found his answer for his equation. Looking up he saw massive Titan standing with its massive corpse-like head peering over the walls.

"grandfather is that a titan" asked Leon in his terrified voice.

"That's the colossus what is it doing here of all place" he realized then why it was here and that terrified him even more.

but before anything could be said the colossus kike the gate sanding a shock wave that destroyed most of shiganshina after that Lukas got Leon and shield him from the debris that were coming in.

after that both tried to find Sofia in what was left of their home. but sadly they only found the twisted corpse of what he could say was his daughter-in-law the only good thing was that she dead a fast and mostly painless death with her head being crushed first. for some time both did nothing as Leon called for his mother to wake up were as Leon remembered the promise he made to John his oldest and how he failed to protect his wife in the end.

"Leon we need to go the titans will be on us soon if we don't move!" he said looking at his grandson who was now looking at him.

"but what about Moth..." Leon tried to asked but was interrupted by Lukas himself.

"LEON both us now that she is dead and there is we can change about that!" Lukas said to his grandson. Leon only nodded in agreement with his grandfather.

after barely escaping the giant armored titan that destroyed the main portion of the wall Lukas with Leon in his arms, had made it to the main river where a bunch of the new steamboats that were industrious ten years ago, were being lined to depart to the safety of the wall Rose.

as his family Lived close to relatively close to the river, he was one of the lucky few who managed to make it to onto the steamboats before the reached capacity. all he could do was be thankful that he and his grandson weren't the unlucky souls left behind to be eaten by the titans pouring through the walls.

While he sat on the boat in silence, he saw the child Eran Yeager declared that he would kill all titans not even knowing the truth behind the titans and how they were made.

'only the boy and his adoptive sister made it?' he then remembered about Yeager said in a prior conversation that he had some business in the capital.

he socked his head at the declaration and looks back at his grandson ho looked to be half dead, and who can judge him. the boy lost everything today and changed there world, and being that wall rose can't feed all the people who are to flee to them wall it could begin a famine that may kill them all off.

'maybe now the king would intervene seeing that his family is at risk' Lukas hoped that. if the king doesn't intervene then it would be the end of their people.

Leon Oldenburg POV

'this can't be happening right its just a bad dream, you just need to wake up Leon, and everything will go back to normal. you will have your home back and mom' Leon said to himself, it hand to be a nightmare as he opened his eyes he saw that they were already on the boat and leaving. Knowing that these wasn't a dream made him almost hyperventilate, but after remembering what his grandfather told him about coming down and berthing he was back to normal in truth he didn't what he would be doing now

He lost everything he known, again he also never though that Titans like that even exist in this world. and that scared him, what if more of dose titan sexist in the world outside the walls. what then how would they be safe in these walls. Leon was truthfully terrified of that idea being true.

"I'm going to kill them all everything signal one of them" a boy with brown hair and green eyes said.

Leon looked up seeing three kids his age, two boys and a girl. One of the kids was a boy with emerald eyes and brown hair staring hatefully at where stood the gate. next to him stood a boy the same age with a blue shirt and blond hair with blue yes. lastly there was the girl who had medium jet black long hair, looking at the boy in the middle.

"I will be moving up the boat to see if there is more space on the boat that we can move to, it's kind cramp around here" Lukas said to him trying to have the kid thing something else.

Leon just nodded at his grandfather, who would walk off to look for a thought spaces for them. he kept looking at kids for a while before thinking maybe he should join the scouts, he did promise grandfather he wouldn't but that was before fall of Shiganshina and Wall Maria and death of his mother, if titans can just destroy the wall with no problem then whats the point of hiding behind them, he will have to protect the home he still has and his love ones if so little of them are left. he then felt that he was being looked at, he turn to see that the girl was now looking at him. he just ignored her before hearing his name being called by his grandfather stood standing up and walking off.

Mikasa Ackerman POV

Mikasa's day could get any worse that it did, first she lost the new home she got, second her adopted mother was gone, and Eren was now for sure joining the scouts and is going to put his life endanger and now a boy was staring at them. the boy was there age, and she seen him from before but could remember who he was, she eyed the jet black hair boy suspiciously, she first seen him stare at Eren and Armin when Eren said he would kill all of the titans. He was her Age but it was still weird, she wanted to call him out on it but never got to.

"Earth to Mikasa" Armin said.

Mikasa snapped out of her though and looked at the two boys who were calling her name.

"are you all right there Mikasa," Armin said.

"yes"

"What were you looking at, that caught your attention" Eren asked Looking at Mikasa.

There was a boy that was loo..."When Mikasa pointed at the please where the boy was siting at it was already empty with nobody there.

"I don't see anyone Mikasa" Eren said looking at the place where Mikasa was pointing at.

"never mind then" she answered to Eren before thinking from where did she see him before.
